Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Tour Like for Guests Visiting Japan? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from North America. They had come to Japan together with family but joined this tour separately, as they wanted to stop in Hiroshima before meeting up with the rest of the group in Kyoto. Today, the end of the rainy season had just been announced for the Chugoku region, making it an unexpectedly hot and humid day. Regarding advance preparations, I had only received a message from the agency stating that the itinerary was fine, so I had very little prior information about the guests. When I actually met them, I found that one of the guests had difficulty walking, so I applied more shortcut routes than usual and arranged a small cultural experience indoors in an air-conditioned space, which they enjoyed.

Welcome to Hiroshima.
My name is Hiroshi Tsuji, a licensed guide based in Hiroshima and Miyajima. My family has been connected to Miyajima for more than 300 years, and I am pleased to share the history, culture, and daily life of this unique island with visitors from around the world. With a background in outdoor sports—including rock climbing, scuba diving, and long-distance triathlons—I have completed several Ironman races abroad. I studied in Kyoto and later worked in management at a publicly listed company, which allowed me to live in many different regions of Japan and develop a deeper understanding of the country’s diverse culture and history.
In Hiroshima, I guide guests through the Peace Memorial Park, including the Atomic Bomb Dome, and share perspectives on the history of Hiroshima and modern Japan.
In Miyajima, I introduce Itsukushima Shrine, Mount Misen, the island’s beautiful scenery, and its local cuisine. As someone whose family has been connected to Miyajima for generations, I also enjoy sharing local insights and experiences that offer a more personal connection to the island’s culture and way of life.

What Does a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Ueno, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya The guests were an older group visiting from Oceania. We first traveled to Asakusa, where I explained the history of Senso-ji Temple and the surrounding buildings from the rooftop of the Culture and Tourism Center, then strolled from Kaminarimon Gate through the Nakamise shopping street while enjoying wagashi sweets. Along the way, the guests drew omikuji fortunes and had a great time, and after praying at the main hall we stopped for lunch. The next planned destination was Shinjuku Gyoen, but as the temperature was high and the guests seemed interested in culture and the arts, I changed the destination on the spot to the Tokyo National Museum. At the museum, the guests took great interest in the works displayed in chronological and thematic order and seemed very satisfied. After that, we moved to Meiji Shrine, where I explained the history of Emperor Meiji and Meiji Shrine, adding explanations at various points as we walked. The guests were deeply moved by the forest in the middle of the city and took many photographs. We proceeded to the main shrine and, after praying, traveled by JR to Shibuya Station, where they took photos in front of the Hachiko statue and the scramble crossing. Since the guests were older and had some concerns about getting around, I saw them back to their hotel in Ginza, ending the tour.

What's a Private Fuji Kawaguchiko Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. They arrived in Japan in June, starting their trip in the Kansai region. They had already enjoyed Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka before coming to Fuji Kawaguchiko, and planned to make Tokyo their final destination. As they knew very little about the Fuji Kawaguchiko area, we visited the local highlights of Arakurayama Sengen Park, Oshino Hakkai, and Oishi Park. The weather was excellent today, and Mount Fuji was visible for the first time in about a week, which delighted the guests greatly. For lunch, I took them to a hidden-gem Japanese restaurant, where they were moved by the wagyu steak, saying it was the most delicious wagyu they had ever eaten. I gave them a Japanese tenugui cloth and a folding fan as souvenirs, which they were also very happy to receive. As we parted, they told me that they had only ever joined group tours before, but today they were treated so attentively that they felt like a king and queen. Overall, I believe they were very satisfied.

We booked a private tour with May for our second day in Tokyo, and it was easily one of the best decisions we made on our trip. Tokyo can feel overwhelming at first because there is so much to see and the city is enormous, but May made the entire day feel effortless, fun, and incredibly memorable.
We started at Tsukiji Outer Market and Honganji, then went to Asakusa, where we explored Nakamise, Senso-ji Temple, and Asakusa Shrine and stopped for lunch. May did such a wonderful job explaining the history, traditions, and proper etiquette along the way. It made visiting these places so much more meaningful than simply walking through them on our own.
From there, we visited Meiji Jingu Shrine before ending the day in Shibuya, where we experienced the famous Scramble Crossing and Center-Gai. It was such a great mix of old and new Tokyo—from peaceful, traditional temples and shrines to some of the busiest and most energetic parts of the city.
One of the most valuable parts of the tour was having May teach us how to navigate Tokyo’s trains and subway system. It felt intimidating when we first arrived, but after spending the day with him, we felt so much more comfortable getting around on our own for the rest of the trip. That alone was invaluable.
What really sets May apart is how knowledgeable, thoughtful, and personable he is. He shared so much about Japanese culture, customs, history, and everyday life, and we loved being able to ask questions throughout the day. He also tailored the experience to us, gave us great recommendations for the rest of our trip, and knew exactly where to stop for the best photos.
May is an exceptional guide and such a genuinely lovely person to spend the day with. If you are visiting Tokyo, especially for the first time, I cannot recommend booking a tour with him enough. We saw so much, learned so much, and left feeling far more confident exploring Tokyo on our own. It was absolutely one of the highlights of our Japan trip. Five stars without hesitation!

A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, and Harajuku The guests, visiting Japan for the first time from North America, greatly enjoyed today's tour. At the guests' request, we changed today's meeting point from the Hotel to Asakusa to save time, and perhaps because we had exchanged several detailed emails beforehand, the guests were delighted when we met in front of the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center. At Sensoji Temple, the guests drew omikuji fortunes and were pleased to both receive good fortunes. They also enjoyed a delicious matcha ice cream within the temple grounds. At Sensoji Temple and Meiji Shrine, the guests learned the differences between temples and shrines, the respective ways of worship, and how to pass through a torii gate. They liked the vast grounds and tranquil quietness of Meiji Shrine, as well as the expansive black pines of the Imperial Palace Outer Garden. On Takeshita Street in Harajuku, the guests shopped for items such as T-shirts and hats. They took photos at various spots. The guests were accustomed to walking and had no trouble at all getting around using public transportation, so I was actually able to guide them to several places within the allotted time.

Let me introduce myself. I was born in Hayama, a beach resort area, Kanagawa prefecture, south of Tokyo. And I’m now living in Saginuma, Kawasaki city.
When I was a university student, I had the opportunities of doing a home stay with a family In U.S.A., Australia, and England, as a youth exchange student.
After graduation from the university, I started working at American Life Insurance Company, Japan (Alico, Japan), which is a group member company of AIG, now MetLife Insurance Company. I could have a chance to visit the head office and the field offices of U.S.A., Wilmington in Delaware, New York, Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale in Florida, Los Angeles, while I was working for Alico, Japan (Now, MetLife Insurance company).
I had been working for MetLife Insurance Company for about 38 years, in total.
After retiring from the life insurance company, I started working as a tour guide, because I wanted to become a tour guide to introduce culture, history, and manners and customs of Japan in English. It’s so different between my previous job and the guide business, but I like guide business a lot.
I can meet so many people from all over the world and the guide business has been thriving after the pandemic.
I have implemented the tour over 240 times, introduced Japan to more than 4900 tourists from 54 countries.

Not only Tokyo, but I have experienced touring around Nikko, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji & Hakone area, Takayama, Kanazawa, Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima, etc. which are all very famous as a tourist spot in Japan.
If you go on a tour in Tokyo, you must see and visit Asakusa Sensoji Temple which is the oldest Buddhist Temple in Tokyo with histories and Nakamise Shopping Street where you can buy the souvenirs and try to taste Japanese sweets, such as doll cake which is the sponge cake in various shapes filled with red bean paste and Japanese powdered tea ice cream. Another my recommendation in Tokyo to visit is Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya. Meiji Shrine is one of the biggest shrines in Japan with quiet and peaceful atmosphere and magnificent site.
Harajuku and Shibuya are both fun to visit for shopping and experience the Shibuya Crossing.
I usually propose my tentative itinerary and ask if my plan is all right with the customer or not. My hobby is traveling around Japan and foreign countries and going to the gym for exercise.
I would like to work as a guide as long as possible if I’m in good health and my legs are strong, because I love this job.
I put my importance on the mind of OMOTENASHI which means sincere hospitality, though safety during the tour takes precedence, number one priority, before anything else.

Title: What Is a Private Family Walking Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Body: The guests were a group visiting Japan from Oceania. The day before the tour, the guests contacted me and we adjusted the meeting time to 9:00 AM. The tour proceeded without any trouble, and the guests did a lot of walking throughout the day. At Nishiki Market, the guests enjoyed tasting salt-grilled ayu (sweetfish), grilled eel skewers, tempura, and kamaboko fish cakes, and they also had a great time purchasing items such as dried bonito flakes. The best part for everyone was that the whole group stayed together and enjoyed the tour from start to finish.

Title: What's a Family-Friendly Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shibuya The guests were a family visiting from North America. They had visited Tokyo before with the same group and had become great lovers of Japan, and since the children had grown older and a direct flight had become available, they decided to return. This time, the tour focused on the children's interests as we explored the city. Since everyone loved seafood, we started at the Tsukiji Outer Market. Some of the guests were big tuna fans and kept ordering more sushi at the food stalls, while others loved oysters and, though amazed at the size of Japanese oysters, were delighted by how delicious they were. They also purchased plenty of dried squid and kelp, and mentioned they would finish all of it within a few days. Everyone, including the children, had a hearty appetite and clearly enjoyed the unique seafood market experience in Japan. At Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, the children were fascinated by traditional Japanese toys and had several bought for them. After seeing the Godzilla Head in Shinjuku and having lunch, we headed to a watch shop in Harajuku that some of the guests had long wanted to visit, as they were very fond of watches, and they purchased several high-end timepieces. Finally, the children wanted to take photos at Shibuya Crossing, so we stopped there before ending the tour.

What's a Private Family Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera and Fushimi Inari The guests were a group visiting from North America. At the guests' request, we met at a specialty tea shop in Kyoto, but since they wanted to enjoy matcha there, the tour started a little later than scheduled. Along Sannenzaka, the guests stopped at various shops and enjoyed shopping, and along Kiyomizuzaka they also wanted matcha at a popular tea shop. Because of the queue, we split into one part of the group who toured Kiyomizu-dera first and another who waited in line to enjoy matcha, planning to meet up again at Kiyomizu-dera. In the end, we saw them off at Fushimi Inari, and although the tour ran over time, everyone enjoyed it thoroughly.

What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Takeshita Street I guided the guests, who were visiting from North America. They were quite fashionable and had a striking presence. At the Nijubashi Bridge, they filmed a video for social media and listened with great interest to the history I shared. Next to the statue of Kusunoki Masashige, they enjoyed some matcha ice cream. At Meiji Shrine, they received a good-luck charm. Since one of the guests had not expected to walk so much and seemed tired, we took a break at Mori no Terrace. On Takeshita Street, they shopped at a hundred-yen store for an electric fan and snacks for their Disney visit the next day, and they found and tried some strawberry-muscat candy. Afterward, I asked whether they would like to walk along Omotesando or head back to their accommodation, and they chose to return, so I saw them off at the nearest station to conclude the tour.

What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of four visiting from North America. They were not particularly interested in history, and seemed to enjoy buying drinks at food stalls and various shops and taking photos. Rather than moving briskly from place to place, they preferred a relaxed style of walking and shopping, and picked up small items along the way. Since they wanted to avoid crowds, they decided to skip Kinkaku-ji and visit Gio-ji instead, so after Kiyomizu-dera we went to Gio-ji. They also wanted to visit the neighboring temple, so we went there as well; although we had heard the lotus flowers were in bloom, they were not blooming when we arrived. We were running slightly behind schedule, but since I wanted to show them lotus flowers, we went to Ogura Pond and finished at the north gate of Tenryu-ji after passing through the bamboo grove. As the guests wanted to continue sightseeing on their own after the tour, I recommended the garden at Tenryu-ji. Regarding lunch, when I confirmed the itinerary first thing in the morning and asked whether they wanted to have it during or after the tour, they said they would have lunch after the tour ended, so we skipped it.

They were friends from their student days, and it was everyone's first time in Japan. To save time, we arranged to meet at Shin-Imamiya Station, the nearest station. I took them to Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Arashiyama (Togetsukyo Bridge, the bamboo grove, and Nonomiya Shrine). Originally, we had planned to visit Nishiki Market after Arashiyama, but the guests requested to shop for kitchen knives and matcha, so we made a last-minute change and took them to a kitchen knife store, Kanetaka Hamono. Everyone made many purchases there. After that, I took them to a specialty Uji tea shop (Fukujuen) at Kyoto Station, where they also bought a great deal. The first half of the tour featured historical sights such as Fushimi Inari and Nijo Castle, and after lunch the guests enjoyed the beautiful nature and bamboo grove of Arashiyama, finishing the day with shopping. They were especially delighted to have purchased kitchen knives.
