Over the course of the day the route took in Hotel Jingugaien at 12:00, Nijubashi Bridge, Statue of Kusunoki Masashige at 12:40, Meiji Shrine at 14:00 and Harajuku, Omotesando at 15:00.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Kokuritsu-Kyogijo to Sakuradamon by subway (290JPY); Nijubashimae to Meiji-jingumae by subway (210JPY); Harajuku to Sendagaya by train (160JPY). Across 3 sections the fare came to 660JPY per person.
What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Takeshita Street
I guided the guests, who were visiting from North America. They were quite fashionable and had a striking presence. At the Nijubashi Bridge, they filmed a video for social media and listened with great interest to the history I shared. Next to the statue of Kusunoki Masashige, they enjoyed some matcha ice cream. At Meiji Shrine, they received a good-luck charm. Since one of the guests had not expected to walk so much and seemed tired, we took a break at Mori no Terrace. On Takeshita Street, they shopped at a hundred-yen store for an electric fan and snacks for their Disney visit the next day, and they found and tried some strawberry-muscat candy. Afterward, I asked whether they would like to walk along Omotesando or head back to their accommodation, and they chose to return, so I saw them off at the nearest station to conclude the tour.

Great day in Toyko
Four of us spent an enjoyable day touring Tokyo the day before our Japan cruise. Our guide, Takako, was great and ensured we saw what we wanted to see. Tokyo traffic is crazy but our driver, Mr. Isizuka, was amazing. Takako asked for our lunch preference and suggested a terrific steak house…so fun! She explained all the traditions and rituals at the shrine and temple so we felt at ease visiting these places. Because of traffic, we were running a little behind (no fault of hers or our driver) so we only got a drive through of the Ginza area. We will spend one more day in Tokyo at the end of the cruise and now have a better idea of where to concentrate our time. All in all, we had a great time, despite the rain.

Takako, our guide for the day, was an absolutely wonderful companion in Tokyo. She took the time in advance to understand our interests and wishes, and the whole day was tailored exactly to what we wanted to see and experience.
My mother isn’t very steady on her feet and can’t walk long distances, and Takako handled this beautifully, she adjusted the pace and made sure my mother could fully enjoy the day without feeling rushed or left out. It’s reassuring to know that a tour like this can be adapted so well for someone with limited mobility.
Her knowledge, warmth and preparation made the day truly special. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and can highly recommend her to anyone visiting Tokyo.
