    Title: What Is a Private Otaru Walking Tour Like for Cruise Ship Guests? A Licensed Guide's Report The meeting time was set for 10:30, but since the guests were already waiting early, we started the tour at 10:15. Of the four expected, one had caught a cold and was absent, so there were three guests. First, we strolled along the Otaru Canal. We looked inside the Otaru warehouses, and after I explained the history of the canal, we moved on to Asakusa Bridge. We took photos at the classic photo spot, then walked along the canal to Sakaimachi shopping street. I explained about the shopping street in front of the Taisho Music Box Hall and had intended to give the guests some free time, but in the end we ended up going around together. At Kitaichi Glass, the guests purchased a cold sake set, and I helped with that. Kitaichi Hall usually has a long line, but no one was waiting, so we went inside and had tea. The interior, lit only by 167 oil lamps and stained glass, had a wonderfully romantic atmosphere, and the guests were delighted. They listened with interest to the story of how each of these lamps is lit one by one every morning. They were also surprised by the steam clock in front of the Music Box Hall. We were lucky to hear the steam whistle announcing 12:30 exactly. Then we walked to Tanaka Sake Brewery. The guests mentioned that they had made sake before and showed a strong interest in Japanese sake. First, we saw the sake-making process on the second floor, then went to the shop on the first floor. After enjoying various tastings, they purchased some sake. Next, we took a taxi and the ropeway to the summit of Mount Tengu. The weather was fine, and the guests were delighted with the wonderful view. At 2:30, we officially ended the tour at the summit. After that, I relaxed at the summit as well, and returned with the guests by ropeway and bus. Since the guests' cruise ship was docked for one night, there was plenty of time.

We started after discussing the itinerary at the Hotel. At Shibamata, the guests took their time viewing the carvings and the garden. At Taishakuten they bought a goshuin stamp book, and from then on they requested handwritten goshuin at each temple and shrine. I also answered questions about religion. They seemed to like the old-fashioned atmosphere of Takagiya as well, spending some time there over snacks. Asakusa also proceeded at a relaxed pace, as they drew omikuji fortunes and received goshuin. At a convenience store, they experimented with various ways of preparing iced coffee. In Ueno Park, they received a goshuin at Kiyomizu Kannon-do, but at Ueno Tosho-gu the goshuin was pre-written on paper, which did not suit their preference, so they did not purchase it. Afterward we had planned to visit Nezu Shrine, but since they wished for a handwritten goshuin, we changed the destination to Meiji Shrine, and as there was a little time left, we passed through Takeshita Street and ended at Ginza Station. A tip was received. A notable stop on the tour was Meiji Shrine. Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in a large forested area in the heart of Tokyo, dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Visitors enter through towering wooden torii gates and walk along tree-lined paths leading to the main shrine buildings. It is one of the most visited shrines in Japan, especially popular during the New Year period, and offers a peaceful contrast to the surrounding city.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace East Gardens and Asakusa The guests were cheerful visitors from North America. Their Tokyo tour spanned three days, and although they had originally hoped to have the same guide throughout, three different guides were assigned, and I was responsible for the second day.     What Is a Private Two-Day Tour to Nikko and Okunikko Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. During their two-day stay, they requested places they could not easily reach on their own, so the itinerary centered on the Okunikko area. Kegon Falls, which had been in a state of low water due to recent drought, had recovered its water volume thanks to a typhoon in the days before, and the group thoroughly enjoyed its dynamic and majestic appearance. At the request of the group, instead of the Lake Chuzenji sightseeing boat, we chose to visit Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park and Rinnoji Temple. In the afternoon, dense fog limited visibility, so the decision not to go out on the lake proved wise. Although we toured the park and the temple and shrine grounds in a light drizzle, rather than stepping out into the Shoyoen garden, the group took an interest in the three noble houses of the Edo shogunate, the successive shoguns, and the course of the Meiji Restoration, and listened attentively to the explanations in front of the portraits in the treasure hall. I briefly touched on the highlights of Toshogu Shrine and Futarasan Shrine, which they would visit on their own the following day, and then we said our goodbyes. A notable stop on the tour was Kegon Falls in Nikko. Kegon Falls is one of Japan's most famous waterfalls, plunging nearly 100 meters from Lake Chuzenji. It was formed thousands of years ago when volcanic eruptions from Mount Nantai blocked the river and created the lake above. The falls are especially striking after heavy rainfall, when the water volume increases and the cascade becomes particularly powerful and dramatic.

    Title: Can You Do a Private Kyoto Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Ginkaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera, and Fushimi Inari The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. After the consecutive holidays, Ginkaku-ji (the Silver Pavilion) was uncrowded, and everyone was deeply moved by the contrast between the white of the sand garden (Ginshadan), the green of the trees and moss, and the brown of the pavilion itself. The guests wished to purchase kitchen knives, so we decided to stop by a shop near Ginkaku-ji and another shop on Sannenzaka. In the end, they made their purchases at a shop that could engrave names onto the blades using a laser. It was interesting that they chose to have their names engraved in katakana. For the move from Ginkaku-ji to Kiyomizu-dera, we were able to catch a passing taxi that could accommodate six people, so the guests paid for the ride themselves. After visiting Kiyomizu-dera and Fushimi Inari, one of the guests wanted to purchase analog records, so I introduced the location of a record store, and the tour concluded at Nishiki Market. A notable stop on the tour was Fushimi Inari Shrine. Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of Kyoto's most iconic sites, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that wind up the sacred Mount Inari. The shrine is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice, prosperity, and business, and visitors can walk the atmospheric paths lined with these gates, many of which were donated by individuals and companies. The shrine grounds are open at all hours, making it a memorable place to experience traditional Japanese spiritual culture.

The guest had a keen interest in Japanese history, particularly military history, so we visited the magistrate's office (Bugyosho), which had not originally been part of the plan. The guest was very pleased to see the cannons and rifles used in the Battle of Hakodate and asked many questions, which made for a lively conversation. Under a clear autumn blue sky, the guest was also very satisfied with the view from Mount Hakodate. Finally, at the Museum of Northern Peoples, the guest came into contact with Ainu culture and history and was fascinated by the Ainu tools. Although we walked a great deal, the guest was not particularly tired and remained energetic throughout. I took the guest to a restaurant in the Red Brick Warehouses, where we said our goodbyes. A notable stop on the tour was Mount Hakodate. Mount Hakodate rises at the southern tip of the city and is famous for offering one of Japan's most celebrated night views, with the twinkling city lights spread between the sea on both sides creating a distinctive fan-like shape. Visitors can reach the summit by ropeway, bus, or car, and from the observation deck they can enjoy sweeping panoramic views of Hakodate and the surrounding bays. The mountain is also known for its natural scenery, walking trails, and the way its appearance changes with the seasons.

After Asakusa, we went to Ginza, looked around the depachika (basement food floor) of the Mitsukoshi department store, and I introduced them to UNIQLO and Ginza Six. It was not too hot, making it a perfect day for the tour.

At the Atomic Bomb Museum, I was asked how I felt about President Truman's statement on the atomic bomb, so I shared my personal opinion and perspective, making it clear that it was only my own view. The guest also enjoyed the stadium city area, coming from a place where soccer is popular. A notable stop on the tour was the Atomic Bomb Museum in Hiroshima. Located within the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the museum documents the events of August 6, 1945, when the city was struck by an atomic bomb.     What Is a Private Day Tour from Shimizu Port to Fujinomiya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report After meeting at Shimizu Port, we took the train to Fujinomiya Station. On the way to the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Centre, Shizuoka, the guests noticed the tactile paving blocks on the sidewalk and asked what they were. When I explained, they were impressed and thought it was very smart. Along with the small kei cars driving on the roads, they seemed drawn to the distinctly Japanese details. Unfortunately, Mount Fuji was covered in clouds, so it could not be seen from the balcony of the Heritage Centre. However, at Fujinomiya Sengen Shrine, the summit peeked out a little, and the guests happily took commemorative photos. After marveling at the freshness of Wakutama Pond, we enjoyed Fujinomiya yakisoba, stopped by the usual tea shop, and had a day fully savoring Shizuoka. A notable stop on the tour was Fujinomiya Sengen Shrine, formally known as Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha, which serves as the head shrine of the roughly 1,300 Sengen shrines across Japan. It is dedicated to the deity of Mount Fuji and has long been a starting point for pilgrims climbing the sacred mountain. Within its grounds lies Wakutama Pond, fed by spring water from the snowmelt of Mount Fuji, celebrated for its remarkable clarity and coolness throughout the year.

    Title: What Is a Private Tsukiji Tuna Auction and Sushi Tour Like in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. The booking was made through a travel agency via an online booking platform, and all pre-tour email communication was handled by the agency, so I was only able to communicate directly with the guests on the morning of the tour. I was a little concerned because there had been little advance communication, but the guests were very friendly, and we hit it off right away, making it a very enjoyable tour. On this day the auction saw relatively high prices. While frozen tuna usually goes for between 1,000 and 5,000 yen per kilogram, several lots reached 6,000 yen and two reached 7,000 yen, so the auction floor was more heated than usual, and the guests were delighted to watch it. At the sushi restaurant after the auction, they ordered a "tuna feast" and were amazed at how the flavor of tuna differed depending on the cut and the preparation method. When they told the head chef that they had both enjoyed the marinated tuna, the chef told them, "Marinated tuna sushi takes the most effort to prepare, so I'm happy you enjoyed it," and briefly explained how it is made. The guests were impressed, saying, "It really takes a lot of work." At the Tsukiji Outer Market, they thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the morning market. Watching the shops busily preparing to open, they said, "It's so lively and fun." A notable stop on the tour was the Tsukiji Outer Market. The Tsukiji Outer Market is one of Tokyo's most famous food destinations, home to a dense collection of shops and stalls selling fresh seafood, produce, kitchenware, and Japanese culinary specialties. Even after the wholesale market relocated, the outer market remains a lively spot where visitors can sample street food and experience the energy of a working market. It is a popular place to learn about Japanese food culture and to enjoy a wide variety of local dishes.
