Although the sky was unfortunately cloudy, they seemed impressed by the vast views of Tokyo. At Kappabashi Kitchen Town, they purchased several cooking knives, including some as souvenirs for friends. The guests requested that, instead of returning to the hotel, I take them to Ginza, so I guided them to Ginza and we parted ways there. Since I accommodated the guests' wishes as requested, I believe they were satisfied. A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the 7th century, and it is one of the most visited temples in Japan. Visitors enter through the iconic Kaminarimon Gate, with its enormous red lantern, and proceed along Nakamise-dori, a shopping street lined with traditional stalls selling snacks and souvenirs leading up to the main hall.

Title: What Is a Rainy-Day Private Tour of Arashiyama in Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came from North America and were traveling around various parts of Japan by cruise ship. The original meeting point at the time of assignment was Kyoto Station, but they requested to be picked up at the Tempozan Port Terminal instead, so I changed the meeting point. The day before, they asked to move the meeting time earlier than 9:00, so we agreed to meet at 8:00. It was cloudy at the start, but soon a light rain began and continued throughout the day. Since it was not heavy rain, the green of the moss was very beautiful and even snails were moving about, so I feel we were able to have a wonderful tour even on such a rainy day. They had already gone sightseeing in Kyoto the day before, visiting Kiyomizu-dera, Gion, and Nijo Castle, so they said they had booked a tour of Saga-Arashiyama for today. A notable stop on the tour was Arashiyama. Located in the western part of Kyoto, Arashiyama is famous for its scenic beauty, including the iconic Bamboo Grove and the Togetsukyo Bridge spanning the Katsura River. The area is home to numerous temples and gardens, and it has been a favored retreat for the aristocracy since the Heian period. Its lush greenery is especially striking in the rain, when the moss and foliage take on a vivid, tranquil quality.

What's a Private Osaka Day Tour Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived in Osaka by cruise ship the day before the tour, having traveled via Kushiro and Aomori. It turned out that Shitennoji Temple and Harukas, which had originally been planned, had already been visited on a group tour from the cruise ship the previous day, so the itinerary was changed to a relaxed route around Osaka Castle and Dotonbori to match their wishes. At one point, the guest chose to skip a crowded, touristy shopping street lined with many shops, mentioning a preference for quieter places. Title: What's a Private One-Day Kumamoto Castle and Suizenji Garden Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report We had arranged to meet in front of the Starbucks inside Kumamoto Station, and the guest arrived at 9:00, the agreed time. The guest was a visitor from Europe, and this was my first time guiding a single guest on their own. First, we boarded the Kumamoto city tram in front of Kumamoto Station, got off at Hanabatacho stop, and walked toward Kumamoto Castle. At Kumamoto Castle, the Josaien Wakuwaku-za had been closed since the earthquake in July (scheduled to reopen in November), so we could not watch the good video with English subtitles that is normally shown there. Instead, we passed through Josaien and entered the Kumamoto Castle grounds. We walked along the elevated corridor built after the earthquake ten years ago, and I explained things such as the "two-style" stone walls along the way before entering the main keep. Inside the main keep, explanations are normally prohibited because they tend to become noisy, but since I was guiding only one guest this time, I gave as much explanation as possible while being careful not to disturb other visitors. After finishing the tour of Kumamoto Castle, we walked on, stopping at a convenience store where the guest bought an umbrella, and then went to the Kumamoto Prefectural Traditional Crafts Center. This facility had reopened after renovation just half a year earlier, and we were able to see many traditional crafts from within Kumamoto Prefecture. After that, we walked to a department store and enjoyed Kumamoto ramen together at the food court in the basement. After lunch, we took the Kumamoto city tram to Suizenji Garden, and after touring the grounds thoroughly, we stopped at a souvenir shop along the approach. We then returned to Kumamoto Station by tram. The guest was going to take a JR train afterward to watch a soccer match (a J3 game), so I explained the JR platform and how to board, and the tour came to an end.

Tokyo First-Day Private Tour with a Licensed Guide: Asakusa, Tsukiji, and Odaiba Itinerary Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. They had arrived in Japan the day before, and today was their first day of sightseeing in Tokyo. They planned to stay in Japan for about two weeks, visiting Hakone, Takayama, Kyoto, and Osaka after Tokyo. It was their first visit to Japan. I guided them around Asakusa/Senso-ji Temple, the Tsukiji Outer Market, and Odaiba. Since the schedule allowed a relatively generous amount of time, I gave detailed explanations at each location. The guests were very friendly and listened attentively to my explanations at each place, and they enjoyed themselves. Unfortunately, it was drizzling slightly, but it did not turn into heavy rain, and they seemed satisfied with all of the places we visited. For lunch, we enjoyed street food at the Tsukiji Outer Market, including grilled seafood and grilled wagyu beef skewers. They were delighted, saying both were very delicious. After the tour, they planned to visit teamLab Planets, so the plan was to end the tour at 15:00 at the nearest station, Shin-Toyosu Station. When I confirmed their entry time for teamLab Planets, it turned out to be between 16:00 and 16:30. Since there is no suitable place to spend the waiting time near Shin-Toyosu where teamLab Planets is located, we decided it would be better to do some shopping in Odaiba, the last place we visited, or adjust the time at a cafe. Title: What Is a Quiet Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Manshuin, Enkoji, and Nijo Castle The guests were visiting from North America, with one of them having been to Japan once about 17 years earlier and the other traveling to Japan for the first time. Because they had very busy schedules, this was a long-awaited holiday for them. Their trip covered Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, and Kyoto, and afterward they planned to enjoy a few days elsewhere before returning home. They were the type of guests who preferred not to decide their destinations in advance, asking instead for recommendations on the day. Their wish was to experience a quiet, peaceful, authentically Kyoto-like atmosphere with few crowds, so I chose the destinations accordingly. In particular, Manshuin and Enkoji are located in the northern part of the Higashiyama Thirty-Six Peaks, near Shugakuin Imperial Villa, and are very quiet temples. Manshuin Monzeki in particular has a 900-year history, and its current buildings, deeply connected to Katsura Imperial Villa, have endured some 400 years. It is known as a "mini Katsura Imperial Villa" and has an exceptional sense of refinement. It may well be the best place to see what an aristocratic residence was once like. Furthermore, it rained gently all day today, which made the garden feel even more serene. Fortunately there were almost no other tourists, so I believe the guests were able to enjoy a very calm and peaceful atmosphere. Very close to Manshuin Monzeki is a Zen temple called Enkoji, famous for its splendid garden, dry landscape garden, and bamboo grove. This temple originally began as a school opened to ordinary people by Tokugawa Ieyasu 400 years ago, later becoming a temple. Though not a Toshogu shrine, there is a small shrine on a hill within the temple grounds that carefully enshrines a tooth of Ieyasu. It is a quiet spot with a sweeping view over Kyoto city. Today the guests were able to thoroughly enjoy this quiet, tranquil side of Kyoto. Finally, we made a quick tour of Nijo Castle, the shogun's castle, and returned to the hotel on time, where the tour concluded. Lastly, the driver provided a great deal of helpful advice throughout the day, including on restaurants, and was of great assistance. Thank you very much. What Does a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Tsukiji, and Meiji Shrine The guests were visitors from North America. They had arrived in Japan the day before, and today was their first day of sightseeing in Tokyo. They planned to stay in Japan for about 16 days, visiting Hakone, Izu, Kyoto, Osaka and other places after Tokyo. This was their first visit to Japan. I guided them around Asakusa/Senso-ji Temple, the Tsukiji Outer Market, Hamarikyu Gardens, and Meiji Shrine. They were both very friendly, listening attentively to my explanations and enthusiastically taking photos at various spots. Unfortunately, the weather brought some light drizzle, but it never turned into heavy rain, and they seemed satisfied with all of the places we visited. For lunch, they enjoyed street food at the Tsukiji Outer Market, including sashimi, grilled wagyu skewers, and matcha lattes. Since they planned to go shopping in Harajuku and other areas after the tour, after visiting Meiji Shrine as our final stop, I handed them a map of Harajuku and explained the locations of Takeshita Street and Omotesando. As they mentioned they had a reservation at a sushi restaurant in Ginza for dinner, I also explained how to get to Ginza, and the tour concluded at JR Harajuku Station.

What's a Private Day Tour Around Nagano and Zenko-ji Temple Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who were traveling around Japan over an extended period. They had decided on their sightseeing spots in advance, so we moved through the itinerary smartly and efficiently. Because the guests had deep knowledge, the guiding focused less on explaining unseen background and more on matching what they could actually see with the knowledge they already had. We traveled between Nagano Station and Zenko-ji Temple by local route bus, and after that we used taxis for all transportation. It was a day with occasional light rain, but the guests seemed soothed by the green mountains and the beginning of the autumn foliage. A notable stop on the tour was Zenko-ji Temple in Nagano. Zenko-ji is one of Japan's oldest and most important Buddhist temples, founded in the 7th century. It is famous for enshrining what is believed to be the first Buddhist statue ever brought to Japan, and its main hall is designated a National Treasure. The temple has long welcomed pilgrims regardless of sect or gender, and visitors can also experience the "O-kaidan meguri," a walk through a pitch-dark passage beneath the main altar in search of the key to enlightenment.
