    What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Family Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Asakusa, Shibuya, and Akihabara The guests were a group visiting from North America. Since some of the guests needed to purchase children's cards for the subway, I advised them to be sure to carry their passports. At Meiji Shrine there was a light rain, but the group enjoyed their visit while using umbrellas. They mentioned they wanted to eat sushi in Asakusa, so I considered guiding them to a sushi restaurant where previous guests had been pleased. After that, I spent a good amount of time showing them around Senso-ji Temple. In Shibuya, they enjoyed the view from Hikarie. Finally, I guided them around Akihabara before we parted ways.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America, who had arrived in Japan for the first time the previous night. They planned to spend a few days in Tokyo before traveling on to the Kansai region. Their accommodation had been difficult to finalize, and the address I was given could not be located on Google Street View. I suggested meeting at a nearby convenience store, but since I received no reply, I was somewhat concerned. When I went to the address, I found a simple sign made from wrapped printed material at an angle not visible on Google Street View. It appeared to be a small two-story detached rental property of less than about 30 square meters. The night before, they had joined a food tour and visited Kabukicho and Omoide Yokocho. When they asked, "Is this area safe?", I advised that it should generally be fine as long as it is not the middle of the night, but since it is a place with many intoxicated people, they should take reasonable care. They mentioned they would revisit Takeshita Street and Shibuya separately. On Takeshita Street, they enjoyed tapioca drinks. At Tsukiji, they were not very interested in the fish but were curious about items such as strawberry daifuku, so I explained that there are plenty of those in Asakusa as well and postponed it a little. In Asakusa, since they wanted a quick bite, they tried soba and rice bowls at Fuji Soba. Along Nakamise, they also enjoyed strawberry daifuku and similar treats. Finally, since Omoide Yokocho, which I had originally planned, had already been visited the night before, I guided them to the observation deck of the Metropolitan Government Building. It rained in the morning, which made me a little uneasy, but in the afternoon, although there were some clouds, the vantage point was somewhat high, so we were able to take in almost the entire view.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    What Is a Private Nagasaki Cruise Port Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report We had changed the meeting point in advance to the Matsugae International Cruise Terminal, and we were able to meet safely a little after 9:00, starting the tour. We boarded the tram at Ourakaigandori tram stop and rode to Ishibashi tram stop, then used the Skywalk and other means to enter Glover Garden through the second gate. Inside the garden, in addition to explaining Mr. Glover's achievements, I also explained about the Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution, such as the cantilever crane visible across the harbor. Walking a short distance from the exit, we arrived in front of Oura Cathedral, and I explained the episode of the "Discovery of the Hidden Christians" in 1865. Next we headed to Dejima, where I guided the guests to the miniature Dejima, the archaeology museum, and the Kapitan's Quarters. For lunch, I had consulted with the guests in advance and reserved a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, so we walked just under 10 minutes from Dejima to Chinatown. For lunch, the guests enjoyed champon, stir-fried green peppers with meat, sweet and sour pork, and other dishes. After lunch, we strolled through Chinatown. The guests stopped by a shop called Renge, which has a rich selection of Ghibli-related merchandise. We took the tram from Shinchi Chinatown tram stop to the Atomic Bomb Museum tram stop and headed to the Atomic Bomb Museum. Before entering, I showed a copy of the photograph "The Boy Standing at the Cremation Ground," which is displayed at the end of the exhibit, and asked them not to miss it. We walked from the Atomic Bomb Museum via the hypocenter to Peace Park, stopping along the way at the exposed strata from the time of the bombing and the remains of an air-raid shelter. From Peace Park we were to return by tram to the Matsugae International Cruise Terminal, but the guests expressed a wish to stop at a souvenir shop along the way. Since it was roughly the end of the tour time, we traveled by tram from Peace Park tram stop to Ourakaigandori tram stop, and after getting off, the guests confirmed their ship, which was berthed a short distance away (within a 5-minute walk). I then guided them to the front of a stylish souvenir shop called Omagari Neko Chaya, ending the tour. Later, when I sent a thank-you message and asked for their impressions of this shop, they replied that they had been very satisfied.

    Title: What Is a Private Guided Day Tour of Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America, on their first trip to Japan. Their itinerary covered Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, and Nara. At Kasuga Taisha Shrine, I explained the history of Nara and Kyoto, the history of the stone lanterns, and the history of the shrine itself, but the request from the group was that after a brief five-minute explanation at each site, they would prefer to have fifteen or thirty minutes of free time to stroll around on their own. They were that kind of guest. So at Todaiji Temple I arranged it that way, but in the case of a Nara tour the destinations are fairly clustered together — too short a distance to justify a taxi, yet a little far to walk comfortably. In the end, I regrettably had no choice but to have them walk as usual, and during the walks I was able to share various stories with them. Gradually they warmed up, and while chatting cheerfully with some of the guests, the rest joined in as well, and from partway through it became a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. At first I wasn't sure how it would go, but the cute deer came to the rescue. Meals were a challenge, as the group had various preferences and there seemed to be little they could all eat. In the end they compromised at a casual Chinese restaurant in town. During the meal I learned about their studies at university and their career paths, and I was genuinely impressed by how accomplished they were. There was a small incident when, in order to check the reserved seats for their return train, I boarded the train back to Kyoto together with them, and while I was confirming the seats the train started moving, so instead of heading back I ended up going all the way to Kyoto. Nonetheless, the tour concluded without any problems.

    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Family Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. The group was very cooperative, and when a meeting time was set, they kept to it precisely, so the itinerary proceeded right on schedule. They did not need much shopping time for souvenirs, which shortened the schedule considerably. Perhaps because of the time of day, Fushimi Inari Taisha was relatively uncrowded, and I introduced them to the Omokaru-ishi stones and the Nenoue-no-matsu pine. We went around in about 40 minutes and then headed to Nishiki Market for lunch. As always, there were many tourists, but the group finished their meal within an hour and returned. In the car, I gave a brief explanation of Japanese history, and we toured Kinkaku-ji in about 40 minutes. At the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, a shakuhachi flute was being played, and the group listened for a while. Since we had gone around ahead of schedule, the driver kindly took us to the Togetsukyo Bridge, and in the end we returned to Kyoto Station 20 minutes early. The group planned to have a meal and then head back to Tokyo a bit earlier than expected.

    Title: What Do Guests Talk About on a Private Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report 1. The guests work in the insurance industry. 2. Everywhere is so clean. Why don't you have trash cans? We went to Africa, and bottles and cans were everywhere. No infrastructure. 3. Are they (trucks) carrying nothing? They're moving billboards. 4. People commit suicide in North America, too. People commit murder at schools and gun him down. Just terrible. 5. We use local lanes, not the highway, to drive to work in 35 minutes. 6. We have a 10-year-old dog.     What's a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like from Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They had already stayed in Tokyo for several nights before coming to Hakone. At the ryokan where they were staying, they were deeply impressed by experiences they had never encountered before, such as the open-air baths and the lavish dinner. At Hakone Shrine, they were amazed again and again by the solemn atmosphere of the shrine and the natural beauty. Unfortunately, due to the cloudy sky, they could not see Mount Fuji from Owakudani, but they were delighted to purchase the "black eggs" they had been looking forward to. They also seemed to really enjoy the Hakone Tozan Railway, taking in the natural scenery from the front of the leading car and appreciating the topography of Hakone.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today I guided guests from North America, who had already visited Tokyo and Nikko. The weather was cloudy and not too hot, and there were not too many people, making it an ideal day for sightseeing. The guests were especially eager to see the deer, so we first enjoyed feeding the deer at Nara Park in front of Todai-ji Temple. Afterwards, we visited the Great Buddha Hall of Todai-ji Temple, which was also not very crowded, so the guests were able to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. The guests seemed to enjoy looking at souvenirs. We then had an early lunch and visited Isuien Garden, where we enjoyed the beautiful Japanese garden. After that, we walked through the Higashimuki shopping street, where I recommended the famous kusa-mochi from Nakatanidou, which was very much appreciated. Since some discomfort had worsened, we then returned to the accommodation. I believe the guests enjoyed the day.

    What's a Private Kimono and Samurai Armor Photo Tour at Sengan-en in Kagoshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report This tour was requested last November, with a wish for the entire group to wear kimono and armor together for a group photo, which was made possible through a special arrangement with Sengan-en. Although there were time constraints (partly due to a desired return time to the ship), the biggest concern was the weather. The rain that had continued until the previous day cleared up, and today's fine weather allowed us to take photos outdoors without any problem, with Sakurajima and Kagoshima Bay in the background. They say it will rain for the next four days, so what a fortunate group they are. The guests were pleased that a wonderful memory of Japan had been made, and I felt a great sense of relief as well. I received permission to use just one of the photos I took for PR purposes, so I have attached it. The photos taken by the professional photographer have been sent directly to the guests as data from Sengan-en.
