**Title:** What's a Private One-Day Tour of Eastern Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, and the Imperial Palace **Body:** The guests were visitors from North America who had boarded a cruise ship in Asia, traveled around various parts of western Japan, and arrived in Tokyo via Shimizu Port the day before. Before their arrival in Japan, I offered advice on their itinerary for two days. For the first day, I recommended visiting Meiji Shrine and Shinjuku, both directly accessible via the Yamanote Line from the station near their hotel. For the second day, we decided together to explore the eastern side of Tokyo with me. At Tsukiji, the guests enjoyed a tasting comparison of three kinds of tuna. At Honganji Temple, I helped them notice the differences from the temples they had seen in Kyoto. I expected them to be surprised by the crowds in Asakusa, but they said Hiroshima and Kyoto had been even more crowded. They were impressed by the contrast between Otemachi, where the Imperial Palace is located, and the old downtown atmosphere of Asakusa, so I explained the culture of the samurai and townspeople during the Edo period. As we were parting, the guests suddenly said they wanted to visit Yanaka, so I took them to the Keihin-Tohoku Line platform at Tokyo Station, saw them onto the train, and we said our goodbyes.

Hello! My name is Hideki Maruyama. I was born in Osaka and raised in the Greater Tokyo area. I obtained my National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter Certificate in February 2016.
I spent 23 years working at a leading Japanese automotive company, including 7 years posted overseas. I then worked for a German premium automotive manufacturer for 13 years, followed by 6 years as an advisor to a British energy company. Through these roles at global corporations, I developed and refined key skills such as:
    1. Cross-cultural communication
    2. A deep understanding of business elites and affluent customers
    3. The ability to deliver impactful and impressive presentations in English
In addition to my regular duties, I often served as an interpreter for top executives during meetings with foreign government officials. I also had opportunities to introduce aspects of Japan—such as our national character and consumer preferences—to leadership teams in both the German and British companies.
As a tour guide, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding guests from a wide range of countries especially after the pandemic, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Laos, Turkey, Jordan, Kenya and Israel.
When guiding, I always keep in mind to go beyond what guests can find on social media or ChatGPT. I believe my professional background allows me to offer unique insights, and I am encouraged when guests mention this in their reviews

What Is a Private Tokyo Sightseeing Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan. In advance emails, their requested spots included Hamarikyu Gardens and Yoyogi Park, but it became clear that they were more interested in the East Gardens than in Hamarikyu, so we changed the plan. Also, thinking that Takeshita Street would be more fun for the group than Yoyogi Park, I decided to take them there instead after guiding them through Meiji Shrine. One of the guests visits Japan every year and is very knowledgeable about Japan, so there were moments when guiding them made me a little nervous. Since Tsukiji was closed that day, I had assumed it would not take much time, but the group had a hearty appetite and we stopped at many shops, so it actually took a fair amount of time. After finishing the tour of Takeshita Street, we parted ways slightly over the scheduled time.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

    • 5:30 @ Toyosu Market
    • 7:15 @ Tsukiji Outer Market
    • 8:00 Disband @ Tsukiji Outer Market

Title: What Is a Private Toyosu Market and Tsukiji Tour Like in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a visitor to Japan from North America who loves sushi and sashimi. After watching the tuna auction at Toyosu Market with great interest, the guest enjoyed strolling through the Tsukiji Outer Market. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) is one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures. After watching the tuna auction, the guest said they had worked up an appetite, so I introduced several shops in Tsukiji. Since it was still early in the morning, some shops had not yet opened, so while we strolled leisurely, the guest was able to take a good look at the types of food and the prices. The guest mentioned having plans to meet a friend in the city this afternoon, and said that if possible they would like to have lunch together in Tsukiji as well.

Hi friends, I’m Seky, a tour guide in Tokyo, but I cover all over Japan, namely from Hokkaido to Kyushu. I have lived overseas for more than 15 years in total, such as US, UK, Singapore and others, and enjoyed local culture there. Back in Japan, I wish I could help travelers to Japan enjoy Japanese culture, and this is why I became a tour guide.
In Tokyo, my favorite places are Shibuya, Harajuku, Asakusa, and if you are interested in fish market, I’d love to take you to the world largest Tuna auction and/or if you are sports lovers, I’ll go to ball games (baseball) too.

Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Sightseeing Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Tofukuji, and Nijo Castle The guest is an interpreter guide based in Tokyo. On this occasion, the guest came from Tokyo to Kyoto to scout locations in preparation for guiding upcoming visitors around Kyoto. We met at 7:00 in front of the torii gate at Fushimi Inari and began the tour. Everything was conducted in Japanese, and since explanations in English were not needed, it had the atmosphere of a training session on Kyoto's history conducted entirely in Japanese. After Fushimi Inari, we went to Tofukuji. The guest had never visited either Fushimi Inari or Tofukuji before, which is why these two were chosen. Tofukuji is popular during the autumn foliage season, and I explained that at peak times the crowds are so enormous that it becomes difficult to move around. Many questions were asked. Since there was time, I also guided them to Nijo Castle. At Nijo Castle, I focused on basic information and interesting stories. The guest seemed to understand my approach and remarked, "So you don't need to explain everything." Wanting to return to Tokyo as early as possible, I guided them to Kyoto Station and finished a little early. The photo was taken at the Karamon Gate of Nijo Castle.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

Title: What Is a Private Osaka Day Tour Like at the End of a Japan Trip? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were cheerful visitors from Oceania. The weather was fine and we completed the planned itinerary without any trouble. Osaka was the final stop of their long journey. During their travels they had encountered several unexpected situations — taking the wrong train, sleeping on firm tatami mats, being served seafood at a ryokan dinner that could not be eaten, and finding no shower available — but they spoke about it all brightly, saying it had been a good experience. They seemed to find prices in Japan quite reasonable, and they explained at length how high the cost of living is in Oceania. At lunch I took them to an okonomiyaki restaurant, and they kindly invited me to eat together and treated me. Since they wanted to enjoy something delicious in Osaka at the end of their trip, I recommended that, budget permitting, they try Kobe beef.

Title: What Is a Private Day Tour of Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. They had carefully planned their two-week stay in Japan, and shared detailed information in advance about their expectations and interests, including that they would visit Osaka Castle on their own the day before the tour, the places they hoped to see during the tour, that they wished to end the tour in Dotonbori so they could have dinner there after sunset, and that they would be staying in Osaka in total for several days. Because of this, I was able to provide not only helpful guidance during the tour but also additional information afterward, which they were very pleased with. What Is a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, Senso-ji, and Akihabara The guest was a person from Europe visiting Japan for the first time. After sightseeing in Tokyo, the guest planned to travel to Kyoto and Osaka. At Meiji Shrine, the guest appeared impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere, which was very different from Tsukiji Market and Shibuya. At the Imperial Palace, although it rained, the guest showed interest in the vast grounds and in the historical explanations about the role of the Emperor, the Meiji Restoration, and the Edo shogunate. At Senso-ji, the guest listened with interest to explanations about the differences between shrines and temples. In Akihabara, the guest wanted to explore more shops before returning to the hotel, so we parted ways at Akihabara Station. Since I responded exactly as the guest had wished, I believe they were satisfied.

Title: What's a Private Family-Friendly Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I had been told that the group included some energetic younger guests, so I planned an itinerary that would keep everyone engaged and entertained. The forecast called for rain, which worried me, but we only had a light drizzle on the way to Arashiyama Monkey Park. One of the guests had a taste for the authentic and was very satisfied with the garden at Tenryu-ji Temple. When asked for advice on souvenirs, I guided the group to a trustworthy shop that also offered samples, and they purchased with full confidence. Along the way, the group had a light snack at Arashiyama Station on the Randen line before heading to Kinkaku-ji Temple. One of the younger guests left a bag in the restroom, and we went back to retrieve it, but it was already gone. On the off chance, we checked at a souvenir shop, and it had been turned in there. The guests were deeply moved, certain that a local person had found it and handed it in. We had also wanted to visit Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, but between one thing and another we ran out of time, so I took the group to Shinkyogoku shopping street to buy an authentic yukata. In the end, one of the guests purchased an authentic tie-dyed haori and looked very satisfied.

Hi! My name is YUKA. I’ve got the government license in 2018 and joined a half year traning to do the guide. But a half year later I started my carreer, Covid came. I should have given up guiding. During the Covid, I’ve read many books and made my own materials to explain Japanese culture, history, etc. I love guiding because the guests expand my horizon all the time and let me know their own country and culture, etc. It is really important for us all to know each other and respect each other to make this world peace. Thank you for coming to Japan! Let’s enjoy Japan together!

    # What Can You See on a Private Kyoto Day Tour Beyond Temples? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, and this was their first time in Japan and in Kyoto. Since the arrangements had only been made through a travel agency beforehand, I spoke with them directly for the first time when we met in person. The destinations for the day were changed significantly on the spot. Because they had already seen plenty of temples, shrines, and dry landscape gardens in Tokyo, they wanted to experience something different, which led to the destinations chosen this time. In particular, they were overwhelmed and deeply moved by the 1,001 statues of Kannon Bosatsu at Sanjusangendo, all of which are National Treasures. When I told them the legend that there is always one Buddha statue with a face closely resembling your own, and that if you can find it your wishes will come true and your fortune will open up, they found it very intriguing. Part of the group returned to the Hotel a little early due to feeling unwell. There were no expenses to be reimbursed.

Hello, this is Kazu Akiyama, your tour guide. Nice to meet you and welcome to Japan. Thank you for joining me on the tour. Now I am a retired salaried worker, living in Osaka. I have been very much interested in not only learning Japanese history, culture, religion myself, but also talking about them (sometimes going off topics) in English with tourists from all over the world as well. I am so excited being with you as your guide on coming day! I am very much looking forward to you enjoying with me visiting the must-see places and some of the hidden gems. See you soon. Thank you – Kazu Akiyama

Title: What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Walking Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who arrived in Tokyo the previous day after traveling through Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Hiroshima, and Okayama. Since they planned to explore Tokyo on their own for the next few days without joining a tour, they asked a variety of questions, including recommended spots, suggested Tokyo souvenirs to bring home, and how to navigate Tokyo's complex subway system. They had purchased a goshuincho (a stamp book) in Kyoto. At Meiji Shrine, because we arrived early, there was no line and they were able to have the goshuin written directly in front of them in the stamp book, and they were deeply impressed by the beautiful brushwork of the staff member in charge. The tour was led by a government-licensed guide from [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), which is one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures.
