Gifu in Half a Day: Kokubunji Temple & Kusakabe Folk Art Museum

    Tour Itinerary

    • 9:00 Meet at Hotel
    • 9:10 Kokubunji Temple
    • 9:35 Miyagawa Morning Market
    • 10:30 Yatai Kaikan
    • 11:00 Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine
    • 11:30 Nikko Hall
    • 12:10 Kusakabe Folk Art Museum
    • 13:00 Disband at the old town streets

Although the booking form listed a 9:30 meeting at a hotel, through email correspondence after the reservation the meeting was changed to 9:00 at a hotel. Since the guests had told me their preferred destinations in advance, I took them to the Miyagawa Morning Market, the Yatai Kaikan (Festival Floats Exhibition Hall), and the Kusakabe Folk Museum. During the tour we happened to see local people making offerings at the Akiba shrine, and we were also able to watch a shrine maiden's dance. Some of the guests enjoyed photography as a hobby and delighted in the fresh green scenery of Takayama. As some of the guests were also interested in woodblock prints, I introduced an antique shop that we did not have time to visit during the tour, and that evening they contacted me to say they had found a woodblock print.

My name is Akane Ito from Takayama city.
    I started a tour guiding from 2013.
I was guiding almost 1000 people.
I love this job. And I love people who visit in my town. I will take a you to local place where my favorite places . I’m good about communication with the guest and always cheerful. I will take you to Local Sake brewery for tasting sake, Morning Market, Historical places (Takayama Jinya, Takayama festival float museum and Old private houses area) ands my favorite places. If you are interesting about me, please feel free to contact me.

Title: What Is a Private Osaka Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle and Kuromon Market The guests moved smoothly throughout the tour. At each spot, they observed everything with great interest and curiosity, and listened attentively to the guide's explanations. At Osaka Castle, although we viewed it only from the outside, I believe they were very satisfied with the beauty and grandeur of the castle. At Kuromon Market, they showed particular interest in the live pufferfish in the tanks. We parted ways at Kuromon Market, but since the guests very much wanted to have lunch there, I introduced two or three recommended restaurants, handed them a map, and explained how to get back before saying goodbye. The guests were very pleasant, and one of them had a great sense of humor, bursting into laughter at the guide's jokes.

    Dear my guests,

This is (Mr.) Yama, greeting from Kobe, Japan.
I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
and pleasant time with you today. I hope I can come here again and name you as our guide”, which is my great pleasure. Moreover, I would be
great honored if they say “I like Japan now thanks to you”.

Looking forward to meeting you soon here.
    Doomo Arigato Gozaimasu!

Title: What Is a 4-Hour Private Hiroshima Walking Tour Like on a Day Trip from Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group on a day trip to Hiroshima from Kyoto. Although I had set the meeting point at the Shinkansen exit of Hiroshima Station, the guests were apparently waiting near the tourist information side, so even though we were close to each other, neither of us realized it at first. Even so, we managed to meet safely at the scheduled time of 11:30. It reminded me once again how tricky meeting points at stations can be! It was a pleasure to be part of such a heartwarming trip taken together by the guests. Over the four hours, we used public transportation once and walked quite a long distance, and as a guide it was reassuring and easy to lead the tour with such active guests. Since one of the guests loved trees, they took many photos of the trees at Shukkeien Garden and within the Peace Memorial Park. It was a tour spent enjoying friendly and pleasant conversation throughout.

Title: What's a Private Hiroshima Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, and Hiroshima was the final destination of their long trip through Japan, with their return home scheduled for the next day. Since they had already visited many shrines and temples and had just been to Osaka Castle, the guests preferred not to visit that kind of site again, so we simply viewed Hiroshima Castle from the outside. The guests had a strong interest in understanding the reality of the atomic bombing, so I explained the sites related to the war and the atomic bomb located around Hiroshima Castle. Continuing our walk through the city, we stopped at an okonomiyaki restaurant. This particular okonomiyaki restaurant has a hot plate in each private room, so the okonomiyaki stays warm and can be enjoyed at its best, and the guests seemed to love the atmosphere, finding the private rooms with hot plates quite unusual. The okonomiyaki turned out to be far more delicious than they had expected, and they thanked me for bringing them there.

What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera and the Yasaka Pagoda The guests were visiting from North America. They had listed the places they wanted to see, and Kiyomizu-dera was among them. It was not possible to cover all of their requested spots, and since the final stop of the tour was the Yasaka Pagoda (Hokan-ji), I suggested that they visit Kiyomizu-dera on their own afterward, as it is close to Hokan-ji. They agreed, and I guided the tour to Hokan-ji, but they became tired and no longer had the energy to go to Kiyomizu-dera, so I sent them back to their hotel by car. They were satisfied with the tour.

I am an experienced guide, who live in Osaka. I have been a Government-Licensed Guide in English since 2018. I have already guided a lot of tourists overseas in Kansai Area, that is, in the vicinity of my prefecture, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Himeji. I am especially good at guiding in Kansai Area with sufficient knowledge of history, culture and transportation. I have guided people ranging from a small group of one or two to a group of 20-50 people in a big bus, that is, a coach. I like delicious food, because Osaka is a city of Kuidaorre, which means that people in Osaka love to eat and never spend too much money on food. Therefore, as an Osakan, I will do my best to explore restaurants which serve most delicious foods in wherever I take to my guests.

They had arrived one week earlier and had already sightseen in Tokyo and Kyoto. After today's Himeji tour, they planned to head to Hiroshima and finally travel to Fukuoka. Today, after meeting at Himeji Station, we visited Castle View, Himeji Castle, Koko-en Garden, and the rooftop of Egret Himeji, before ending the tour at Himeji Station. Although we started the tour relatively late in the day, it was not too hot today, so we were able to continue the tour comfortably. The guests were very pleased.

Title: What Is a Private Fukuoka Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors attending a conference in Japan, and they wished to finish the tour a little earlier than planned. They preferred a plant-based diet, and asked for ramen options that suited it as well. Since there was a suitable restaurant very close to their accommodation, I saw them there and we parted ways. They enjoyed walking a great deal, and mobility was not an issue at all. They had a strong interest in Japanese culture, and before the conference they had toured Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hiroshima before arriving in Fukuoka, where the event was held. We made a brief stop at Don Quijote so they could buy souvenirs.

One of the guests was very interested in Japanese culture and cuisine, and since they enjoy making sushi themselves, we had a lively conversation about tuna. The group got along well, listened attentively to my guiding, and asked many questions. I was mindful when choosing a restaurant, but we were lucky to be seated without any wait. I was able to share useful information, including advice for their upcoming days in Tokyo.

    Hi,
Thank you for contacting the Japan Guide Association to request a licensed guide for your upcoming visit to Japan. My name is Motoko Tanaka. I’m so happy to be assigned to you.
Let me introduce myself. I was born and raised in Tokyo, so it is nice to hear that you are excited about your visit to this wonderful city. There is much to be excited about here in Tokyo. I have really enjoyed guiding in Tokyo and the surrounding areas for more than 10 years.
I live with my husband and a dog named Alice. She was a rescue dog and I adopted her about 4 years ago. Now she is a very precious family member. I have two daughters, the elder one has a child and the younger has a aroma shop in a town near Mr. Fuji. I sometimes visit there with Alice.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to create a special day.
    Regards,
    Motoko

What Is a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from Oceania. It was the second day (effectively the first full day) of their 19-day tour of Japan, so we began with an explanation of how to use the JR, subway, and other transportation. As we had discussed by email, they had installed Suica on their phones, which made transfers very smooth. Whenever I plan to guide guests around the Imperial Palace, I always check whether a credentials presentation ceremony will be held, and this time one was scheduled, so we were lucky to be able to watch the horse-drawn carriage procession at Nijubashi Bridge. They were also deeply impressed by the architecture of the Imperial Palace, Edo Castle, and Meiji Shrine, as well as the beautiful black pine groves. Since they preferred to keep lunch simple with something like sandwiches rather than eating at a restaurant, and since we happened to be traveling on the Ginza Line, we made a quick stop at the food section of the Ginza Mitsukoshi department store to buy bento boxes, which we then ate together at a rest area in Asakusa. As always, the department store basement food floor offers a wonderful variety and is very popular. I also picked up an English-language Tokyo Travel Guide at the tourist information office near the entrance of Ginza Mitsukoshi and gave it to the guests, who were very grateful, saying, "This is exactly what I was looking for, this really helps, thank you." Finally, I guided them from Tokyo Skytree to Ueno Park and then to Ueno Station on the Hibiya Line, ending the tour. In the morning greeting I had mentioned that we might walk about 20,000 steps that day, but they said, "That's fine, we have plenty of stamina, no problem." They were very energetic, and I believe they were able to fully enjoy Tokyo. (In the end, it did indeed come to 20,000 steps.)

Nice to meet you. I am delighted to introduce myself. My nickname is Danda. I live in Saitama prefecture next to Tokyo, but I was brought up in Kanazawa, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan. My favorite things are bonsai and hiking. Also, I have been a big fun of history and sumo since my childhood. As for the guide, I have enjoyed making communication with foreign visitors since 2019. I have taken more than 30 private groups to not only major scenic spots but also their favorite places such as tea ceremony, maid cafe, sumo tournament, bonsai village, fire ritual and so on. I can arrange the original tour based on your requests and curiosity. It will be only for you. I look forward to meeting you soon. Thank you.
