Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, and Kinkaku-ji — A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were from North America, visiting Japan for the first time. They had arrived in Tokyo two days earlier and came straight to Kyoto, and they mentioned they were still feeling some jet lag. This private one-day tour by a [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide covered several of Kyoto's most iconic sights.

At Fushimi Inari Taisha, preparations for the New Year had already begun, and the shrine was as crowded as during the peak tourist season. The guests took an interest in the torii-gate-shaped ema (votive plaques) they happened to pass by, and purchased one on the way out.

During the walk through the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, we stopped at Nonomiya Shrine. When I explained that its auxiliary shrine, Shirafuku Inari Daimyojin, is believed to bring blessings for having children and safe childbirth, the guests offered their prayers there. After the bamboo grove walk, I guided them to a viewpoint in Kameyama Park overlooking the Hozugawa Gorge, which they greatly enjoyed.

From Arashiyama to Kinkaku-ji, they traveled by taxi.

Kinkaku-ji was also busier than usual, with a long line to purchase admission tickets. After exploring Kinkaku-ji, the guests said they would be happy to end the tour a little early so they could return to their accommodation and have lunch nearby. They called a taxi via a rideshare app from near the Kinkaku-ji-michi bus stop, headed back to the Hotel, and we parted ways there.
