    Title: What's a Private Rainy-Day Tour Around Miho no Matsubara and Mount Fuji Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather forecast called for rain. We began by discussing the plan with the guests in the hotel lobby. Some of the guests did not want to go sightseeing in the rain, while others were uncomfortable with heights and did not want to take the planned ropeway, so opinions among the guests did not come together, and each of the guests had their own view, which created an uneasy atmosphere from the very start. There was even a suggestion to spend the time at a museum to avoid the rain, but fortunately, looking outside, the rain had eased off, so we headed to Miho no Matsubara as planned for the time being. It was drizzling lightly, but it did not interfere with walking, and we were able to stroll leisurely while breathing in the fresh air. The bad weather turned out to be a blessing, as there were few people around, and it became a wonderful time that the guests enjoyed. They continued the trip smoothly afterward, and at the end, thanks to the quick thinking of the taxi driver, the car was pulled over on a riverbank with a good view, allowing us to see Mount Fuji. At the end of the trip, applause even broke out inside the taxi, and the guests closed their final moments in Japan with a happy memory, making it a truly wonderful tour.

    What Is a Private Nihondaira and Ropeway Tour in Shizuoka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was fine and the temperature was pleasant, making it a perfect day for sightseeing. Unfortunately, low-lying clouds covered the area, and Mount Fuji was not visible at all. Throughout the tour we kept saying that Mount Fuji was in this direction, but in the end we were unable to see it right up to the last moment. Even without Mount Fuji, the view from Nihondaira was breathtaking, and the guests were very pleased. The main highlight of this course is seeing Mount Fuji, but even when Mount Fuji is not visible, there are wonderful scenery and the thrill of the ropeway, so the guests can be very satisfied, which always makes me feel rewarded as a guide.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private Kyoto Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Ninna-ji, Ryoan-ji, and Kinkaku-ji The guest was an avid international traveler visiting Japan, which they mentioned was the 90th country they had visited. 😲 They wanted to see Ninna-ji, a temple with connections to the imperial family. The Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the famous Omuro cherry blossoms were just beginning to open. By good fortune, we were able to witness a "Flower Festival" ceremony. At Ryoan-ji, we relaxed by sitting on the floor and enjoying the dry landscape garden. Before visiting Kinkaku-ji, we had lunch and savored Kyoto-style udon with yuba. Kinkaku-ji was beautiful, shining against the blue sky. 😄 At Kitano Tenmangu, I explained the differences between Buddhism and Shinto, the connection with the ox, and the deity of learning. While guiding through "Kamishichiken," the nearby district of maiko, we very rarely happened to encounter a maiko heading out. The guest was absolutely delighted.

    My name is Shuji, meaning “Excellent Manager” in English. I was born in Hiroshima 1952. I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
    After graduating Kyoto Univ. I joined Mitsubishi-UFJ Bank, Osaka Branch where I met my wife who was a master of Englsih, so I started studying English.
    The bank allowed me to go to Columbia Graduate business school in New York and got MBA Degree there. I worked in London and Manchester Branch.
    During staying in U.K., I was introduced by BBC and Financial Times News Paper about my achievement there. I was selected as a personal assistant and interpreter for the President of the Bank.
    I made many business trips with him to overseas countries. I experienced as an interpreter for meeting late Henry Kissinger and the President of Citi. Corp.
    I changed the job to ORIX corporation, there I was promoted to a Board Member. When the company had acquired Dutch company, I was a member as an accountant to check the Dutch company’s statements of accounts.
    My hobbies are cooking, singing a song, playing tennis & golf, enjoy seeing arts especially opera & musical, travel. I am also busy with taking care of grandchildren. I passed Government Licensed Guide Exam. in 2016. After I retired in 2017, I started guide job as a part timer. So far, I accomplished guide job more than 500 times.
    My area coverage is from Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji to Kyoto, Nara, Oaka, Hiroshima. I am also able to guide Tea Ceremony, Maiko/Geisha, Sushi Making, Calligraphy, Sumo, Samurai, etc. I can speak excellent English.     What Is a Relaxed Private Tour of Tsukiji and Yanaka in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were from Europe, visiting Japan for the first time. As one of the guests had some difficulty walking, we discussed this in advance and arranged a relaxed itinerary that would not be too demanding. I suggested Tsukiji and Yanaka. Since they had eaten only a light breakfast, they tried tamagoyaki (rolled omelet) and satsuma-age (fried fish cake), and were very pleased with how delicious they were. In Yanaka, they enjoyed the atmosphere and streetscape, which were quite different from Tsukiji. During our conversation, I learned that one of the guests enjoys gardening, and since I also love growing flowers, we had a lively chat about flowers other than cherry blossoms at Yanaka Cemetery. Finally, I showed them around Ueno Park before we parted ways.

    Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Higashiyama Area Body: Because the guests' accommodation was near Ninenzaka, direct pickup and drop-off was difficult, so we had them come out to the main street. Since the guests were taking many photos, I took them to a photogenic photo spot at one of the stops, which they greatly appreciated. There was traffic congestion throughout the city, and as the guests were traveling with children, each transfer took some time. Because I had built some flexibility into the itinerary, no major problems occurred. However, it appeared that a previously assigned guide had made itinerary suggestions, provided advice, and arranged bookings, and that information had not been passed on to me. As a result, the guests asked to stop by an entirely different area that the previous guide had included in their itinerary, rather than the one I had proposed.

    Title: What Can You See on a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, the Imperial Palace, Shinjuku, and Shibuya The guests were visiting from Oceania and had completed a cruise around Japan before this Tokyo tour, scheduled the day before their departure home. First, I took the group to the Tsukiji Outer Market, where we walked around so they could get an overview of the area. They said they were looking forward to returning early the next morning. At the Namiyoke Shrine within the market, I explained the differences between Shinto and Buddhism and the influence each has had on Japanese culture. The guests were delighted, saying that although they had traveled around various parts of Japan, this was the first time they had understood the difference between Shinto and Buddhism. Next we visited Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple, where they could really sense the difference between a shrine and a temple. At the Imperial Palace and Nijubashi Bridge, I explained the traditions of the Imperial Family and the current state of the Imperial household. At the request of one of the guests, I took the group to the Godzilla building and the 3D cat advertisement in Shinjuku, and they seemed very pleased. At Meiji Shrine, we happened to come across a purification ceremony being held for new students of a certain high school, and the guests were amazed by the distinctive ritual. Finally, I took the group to Shibuya, where they experienced the Hachiko statue and the Shibuya Crossing. As they wished to continue shopping there, we ended the tour at that point.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Ueno Park and Asakusa The guests were visitors from North America who had been very much looking forward to coming to Japan. They fully enjoyed the peak cherry blossoms at Ueno Park and were thrilled by the Nakamise shopping street in Asakusa. They mentioned that they would like to visit again during their stay in Tokyo. At the Imperial Palace, I explained about the Imperial family and the shoguns, and in Asakusa I explained Shinto and Buddhism.     Title: What's a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Omotesando, and Shibuya The guests were part of a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe, who had been friends for many years. The main purpose of this trip to Japan was to attend the Osaka Expo, which they planned to enter over two days in mid-April after sightseeing at Mount Fuji and in Kyoto. They conversed in German, and one of the guests could speak German, Spanish, English, French, and Italian. The other found English a little difficult to use, so the details of my guiding in English were interpreted into German by their companion to deepen understanding. One of the guests laughingly shared that they had been asked to bring home a goshuincho (temple/shrine stamp book) as a souvenir. So at Meiji Shrine, they had the goshuincho stamped and dated with brush calligraphy right before their eyes, and were very delighted. The goshuincho counter at Meiji Shrine often has a long line, but fortunately this time we were able to get through with only about a 10-minute wait. For lunch, I guided them to "Gonpachi" in Nishi-Azabu, which was the inspiration for the film Kill Bill, and they were greatly moved to be able to sit and have lunch there themselves. The shops in Omotesando were chosen to cover points the guests had raised, though there were also quite a few they had noted as wishes without fully knowing what to expect. There were also some places where the image of the shop name differed from what the shop actually offered. However, while strolling around the Aoyama and Omotesando area, it happened to be cherry blossom season, so I introduced them to the nearby Aoyama Cemetery, and passing through the tunnel of blossoming cherry trees, they were deeply impressed and took many photos. At Shibuya, our final stop, we stopped by the JR ticket office at Shibuya Station to validate the JR ticket, but the procedure could not be completed because the passport had been left behind, so just before returning to the hotel I pointed out the JR ticket office at Shimbashi Station. From there, so they could easily return on their own later, I saw them off to the Hotel about a 5-minute walk away and we said goodbye.

    What Can You See on a Private Nagano Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a visitor from Oceania, traveling around Japan for about a month. Since I had heard in advance that the guest wished to visit the Higashiyama Kaii Gallery and the Nagano City Museum, I built the tour around those two locations. At Zenkoji Temple, a needle memorial ceremony happened to be taking place, and the guest watched it with great interest. The guest remarked that everything was quite different from what could be seen back home, and carefully explored the temple, the art gallery, and the museum. Many of the exhibits did not have English signage, so I explained them as much as I could. Blessed with fine weather and with the cherry blossoms beginning to bloom, the guest strolled comfortably through Nagano.

    What Is a Private Himeji Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shoshazan, Kokoen, and Himeji Castle The guests were a group visiting from North America. They had been close friends since working part-time at the same place during their student days, and now live in different places, so this trip was a chance to reunite in Japan after a long time. All of them love Japan very much and said they would like to live here if possible. We first went to Mount Shosha, where we strolled among the cherry blossoms and the fresh greenery. A drama happened to be filming there at the time, which made for a very special scene. We then took a bus back to the city center and visited Kokoen Garden and Himeji Castle. The group walked quickly, so we finished the course a little earlier than planned, and I took them to a spectacular cherry blossom spot at the end, where they took many photos. Afterward we said goodbye at Otemae Park, and I received a thank-you email from them after they returned home.
