    Tour Itinerary

    • Departing from Hotel B, we walked down to Akasaka-dori while viewing the exterior of Hodo-ji Temple at Sannenzaka, and continued to Hie Shrine. At Hie Shrine, the wisteria trellis was at its best. From Hie Shrine we headed toward Nagatacho, passing between the National Diet Building and the Diet Members' Office Building, and reached the Imperial Palace from Sakuradamon. Walking further, after having lunch at an izakaya in Kanda, we purchased a Tokyo Metro 24-hour ticket at Shin-Ochanomizu Station, took the Chiyoda Line, and got off at Nishi-Nippori Station. We walked through the Yanaka shopping street via Dokan-dori, passed through Yanaka Cemetery, and saw the grave of Tokugawa Yoshinobu and others. At 13:40 we went through to Kan'ei-ji Temple, then walked through the Tokyo National Museum, Ueno Park, Shinobazu Pond, and the downtown area (Ueno Nakacho), and boarded the Ginza Line at Ueno-hirokoji Station at 14:30. We transferred to the Hanzomon Line at Mitsukoshimae Station, got off at Shibuya Station, crossed the scramble intersection while looking at the Hachiko statue, and walked along Meiji-dori, Cat Street, and Omotesando. At the guest's request, we took the Chiyoda Line from Meiji-jingumae Station at 15:45 and disbanded at Akasaka Station around 16:00. We walked quite a lot while explaining things that caught our attention and answering questions.

    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They wished to experience Tokyo's nature, history, and the evolution of its culture, to walk a great deal, and to learn how to use public transportation. While walking the route described above, we talked about many things: the history, structure, and formation of the city of Tokyo, the political systems of Japan and North America, historical topics such as the Tokugawa shogunate and the Meiji Restoration, events of the twentieth century, Tokyo's nature (plants and animals) and roadside trees, and the natural environment of North America. For the first day of a first visit to Japan, it may have been a bit too much to cover. The guests preferred the greenery of parks over crowded places. However, since they had another appointment at 18:00 and needed to change their room at the Hotel beforehand, they wished to return early. As a result, I omitted the forest of the shrine grounds, which I thought would have suited their tastes well. Their interest in crowded spots like the Shibuya crossing and Takeshita Street was limited to simply seeing them once, since everyone talks about them. As for Takeshita Street, they felt they had seen enough. They mentioned they do not usually take photographs, so they took very few. However, at the pine tree of Kiyomizu Kannon-do, they said, "I've seen this in a picture, but I can't believe it actually exists!" and took a photo. To help them remember this trip in the future, I arranged to email them the photos of the guests that I had taken for my report.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Nippori, and Kabuki Today's guests were visitors from North America. They had been traveling by ship around several Asian countries, with Japan as their final destination before returning home over the weekend. We first visited Asakusa, where the guests were surprised by the large number of international travelers. One of the guests mentioned that a family member had visited Asakusa the previous year and been delighted by a strawberry stick, so the guest was eager to try it. We found the shop and they tried one right away, marveling at how fresh it was. Next, we moved to Nippori and enjoyed a sushi lunch. The guests were especially pleased with the fresh tuna belly and delighted that it cost about one third of the price back home. Finally, wishing to introduce them to kabuki, I guided them to a kabuki gallery. Although the guests had known nothing about kabuki, they were impressed by its depth, which they compared to Shakespeare.

    What Is a Private Family Day Tour in Japan Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group of visitors from North America. As it was a continuation of consecutive days of touring, some of the guests grew tired and the pace of the tour slowed down. I was a little touched to see the guests taking turns caring for one another. Even so, I was glad we were able to visit four places. Because of differing dietary needs within the group, choosing a restaurant was a little challenging, and in the end the group had lunch at separate restaurants.

At Kenroku-en Garden, they were delighted by the beautiful scenery of the ponds and the cherry blossoms that were still in bloom. They were also very interested in the traditional buildings of Kanazawa Castle. In the Higashi Chaya District, they bought Kutani-yaki tea bowls and gold-leaf cosmetics, and enjoyed gold-leaf ice cream at a gold-leaf shop. On this occasion, the guests enjoyed the scenery of Kenroku-en Garden and shopping in the Higashi Chaya District.

    I majored in civil engineering at a college and am interested in historical infrastructures. I have also guided foreign people around Ishikawa Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, and Fukui Prefecture as an international activity of an English circle. I was a volunteer interpreter at the training camp for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021.

    Hokuriku region has a lot of sightseeing spots as follows, beautiful landscapes like Kenrokuen Garden and Tateyama, tasty food like traditional Kaga dishes and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay, traditional crafts like Kaga Yuzen dyeing, Takaoka copperware, and Inami woodcarving. I introduce these spots and historical infra tourism such as Kurobe dam and industrial tourism.

    I also work as a translator. I translated the Japanese firefly squid tourism pamphlet into English in 2020.

    Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Peace Museum and Hiroshima Castle The guests were visitors from North America. They found the exhibits at the memorial museum more harrowing than they had expected, and there were many moments when they walked quickly past the displays. It was memorable that they compared the exhibits with a Holocaust Museum they had seen abroad. Since guests from North America come from a wide range of backgrounds, I gave my explanations with even more care and sensitivity than usual. After leaving the museum, I suggested several possible destinations, and following their wish to "learn about history at Hiroshima Castle," I took them to Hiroshima Castle. It was their first visit to Japan and their first Japanese castle, and they were deeply moved. As they mentioned they wanted to have okonomiyaki for lunch, I guided them to a restaurant near Hiroshima Castle, where we parted ways.

    What Does a Private Tokyo Day Tour Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, Tsukiji, and More This was a first-day tour for guests from Europe who came to Japan and, after already staying in Osaka, Kyoto, and Hakone, were spending their final days in Tokyo. We first headed to Meiji Shrine. The guests had already heard about Buddhism and Shinto but felt they did not fully understand them, so I explained again the differences between the two and their influence on Japanese culture, which I believe they found convincing. Perhaps for that reason, they purchased many omamori charms. Afterward, I introduced them to Harajuku's main street, and they said they would like to come back another day. At the Shibuya crossing, the guests were amazed by the sheer number of people and the vibrant atmosphere. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, they were delighted by the unique atmosphere and the street food, and enjoyed sampling a variety of items. In front of the Imperial Palace and the Nijubashi Bridge, I explained how Edo Castle transformed into the Imperial Palace and talked about the Imperial family, and the guests were surprised by this uniquely Japanese system. Finally, at the request of the guests, we headed to Tokyo Dome, where they purchased many Giants uniforms and caps that had been requested by others back home. Since the guests would be staying in Tokyo for three more days, I explained how to use the subway and suggested various places worth visiting, and we ended the tour at Shinjuku Station, where the Hotel is located.

    What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tour of Shinjuku and Shibuya in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were from North America. They had arrived in Japan two days earlier and, after Tokyo, planned to visit Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima over a stay of about ten days. Some of the guests had been to Japan more than ten times, while for others it was their first visit. I guided them around Shinjuku Gyoen, Shinjuku, and Shibuya. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the wisteria was in full bloom and some late-blooming cherry blossoms still barely remained, which the guests were delighted to see. Shinjuku and Shibuya centered on modern places, but they found both areas very interesting. They seemed a little surprised that a place like Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku still exists today. It was mostly a cloudy day, but at Shibuya Sky there were a few breaks in the clouds, so we could clearly see a full view of Tokyo, and they were struck once again by how vast the city is. For lunch, they requested something other than sushi, so we went to a tempura restaurant. The shop was labeled as a standing bar, but there were chairs so we could sit, and they said the food was delicious. At the end, they wanted to return to their accommodation on their own, so I explained how to get back to the hotel and we parted ways at Shibuya Station.

    What Does a Full-Day Private Tokyo Walking Tour Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They were very friendly, listened attentively, and asked many questions. Along with a wide range of topics such as Japanese history, culture, food, customs, politics, and the Imperial Family, they were delighted with information about the Ryogoku Kokugikan sumo hall near their hotel, Yasuda Garden, river cruises on the Sumida River, recommended sightseeing spots in Tokyo and Hakone, and various other tips. In particular, they were very pleased with the information about using luggage delivery services, which they found extremely convenient. Although the itinerary was packed with many destinations including Asakusa, Ginza, the Imperial Palace, Omotesando, Takeshita Street, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya, the guests walked energetically throughout, and it made for a smooth tour.

    What Is a Half-Day Private Tour of Nagoya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nagoya Castle, Tokugawaen, and Osu The guests were visitors from North America. Interestingly, they came from the same region that is a sister city of the area where I (the guide) live, so while riding the subway from Nagoya Port to Nagoya Castle, we had a wonderful and lively conversation drawing on that sister-city connection. The guests were very fond of Nagoya Castle and Tokugawaen, and we took appropriate breaks along the way so everyone could view the sites comfortably. At the third site, the Osu shopping district, we focused on the arcade streets near Banshoji Temple, where the guests enjoyed the atmosphere of Osu's "cultural chaos." Although it turned out to be a compact half-day tour of Nagoya, I believe the guests were able to enjoy it fully.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Nunobiki Herb Garden and Sake Breweries The guests were a group visiting from North America who moved through the day smoothly. Since they had visited Japan several times before, they asked many detailed and in-depth questions. They were very pleased with the view of the Kobe cityscape from the observation deck at Nunobiki Herb Garden. On the way back from the observation deck, they walked down to the mid-station of the ropeway, showing great interest in the plants along the path. The guests seemed genuinely interested in plants and were quite knowledgeable about the names of the trees and vegetation. After that, before visiting a sake brewery, they wished to eat authentic "Kobe beef," so I guided them to a restaurant in Nankinmachi. They appeared very satisfied, saying it was extremely delicious. At the Hakutsuru Sake Museum, which we visited last, they toured with great interest and purchased plenty of souvenirs such as sake and sake cups. After the tour, since they were returning to Osaka, I provided guidance on taking the Shinkansen, and we parted ways.

    I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
    real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
    if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

    Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
    that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
    and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
    foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
    Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
    Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
    octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
    This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
    Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
    Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
    ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

    Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
    that you like them very much.

    I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
