    What Is a Half-Day Private Tour of Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shibuya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe who had known each other since childhood. During a stay in Japan, they had relatively flexible time in Tokyo and wished to explore various areas of the city little by little. For this half-day tour, we focused the visit on Shinjuku, Harajuku/Takeshita Street, Cat Street, and Shibuya. In Shinjuku, after viewing the giant 3D cat monitor outside the east exit of Shinjuku Station, we walked along Godzilla Road and went up to the lobby of a hotel, where they were delighted to see the Godzilla diorama, posters from past films, and the Godzilla head up close. Afterward, I guided them through the restaurant floor on the second floor of Kabukicho Tower, and we also walked through Omoide Yokocho. They said they would like to return another day and that it had been very helpful. At Meiji Shrine, when passing through the torii gate, they followed the proper etiquette at the purification fountain and the main hall, observing the guide and other worshippers and showing their respect in their own way. We also happened to come across a first-shrine-visit ceremony and two wedding photo sessions in traditional attire, which they watched with great interest. Overwhelmed by the energy of Takeshita Street, one of the guests, from the perspective of their interest in real estate, entered several capsule-toy and photo-booth shops and seemed impressed by their business style. On Cat Street, they tried takoyaki for the first time. One of the guests tried just one piece cautiously, while the other happily ate at a quick pace, saying it was delicious. On the way to Miyashita Park, we stopped by one of the Tokyo Toilets designed by Tadao Ando, and they were fascinated by an explanation of the film "Perfect Days" and the innovative design. Later, they said they would love to visit the Tokyo Toilet near Yoyogi Park, which becomes transparent when unlocked, on their own. At Miyashita Park, they showed interest in the outdoor bouldering wall, the skateboard rink, and the monthly rental umbrella stand system. After crossing the scramble crossing twice, for lunch both guests happily finished the carbonara udon, which one of them had been especially interested in, saying it was delicious. Afterward, I guided them to the Nintendo Store inside Shibuya PARCO, in which one of the guests had shown strong interest. When parting, they offered to take a group photo together, and a store clerk took a commemorative picture on one of the guests' smartphones, bringing the tour to an end.

    Title: What's a Private Walking Tour from Shinagawa to Asakusa and Yanaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were an interesting combination: the person who made the booking from Europe and a friend based in Asia. The two had met up in Tokyo the day before. The itinerary that had been agreed upon before arriving in Japan had already been covered by one of them who arrived in Japan earlier, so we suddenly switched to the route described above. From Shinagawa to Asakusa, we were able to sit in the box seats of a Keikyu train car, which let me explain Japanese history and the merits and demerits of the national character in depth, making good use of the time. In Asakusa, I explained the difference between Shinto and Buddhism. I was asked about Japanese feelings toward the firebombing of Tokyo and the United States for dropping atomic bombs, so I prefaced my explanation by noting it was my personal view. Today, Yanaka Ginza was completely different from yesterday, being more crowded with inbound tourists than ever, and it was a shame that its charm could not really be felt. Ameyoko was also crowded, but since there were fewer Western inbound tourists, the guests enjoyed the atmosphere more than in Yanaka. One of them bought clothes and a bag in Ameyoko. Meanwhile, I had a lively conversation with the other guest outside the shop about European football from the 1990s. The person who booked the tour said that next time they come to Japan, they would like to savor Tokyo and Japan at a more leisurely pace, so I said "Come again" and we parted ways. A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the 7th century, and is dedicated to Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. Visitors approach the main hall through the iconic Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) with its enormous red lantern, followed by the bustling Nakamise shopping street lined with traditional snack and souvenir stalls. The temple remains one of the most visited spiritual sites in Japan and offers a vivid glimpse into both religious tradition and lively local culture.

Considering how tired the guests were, we only viewed Godaido from nearby — when I mentioned there were stairs, they decided to admire it from a distance instead. Before visiting Zuiganji Temple, some of the guests seemed tired, but we decided to see it since there was little else left to view. One of the guests who had difficulty walking waited on a chair in a tent outside the entrance rather than entering the main hall, which was a bit of a shame. After Zuiganji Temple, we went to the Sendai Castle ruins as requested. Yasaka Shrine is one of Kyoto's most famous Shinto shrines, founded over 1,300 years ago, and it sits at the eastern end of the lively Gion district.     Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were on a trip to Japan, traveling from a small city in Europe near where three countries meet at their borders, a place where people from three nations coexist in daily working life. From photos, the Rhine River runs through the city, and there are many historic churches and beautiful streetscapes that convey a deep sense of history. One of the guests had visited Tokyo once long ago, while the other was visiting an Asian country for the first time. After spending a few days in Seoul, they planned to visit Osaka, Kyoto, and then Tokyo before returning home. One of the guests mentioned first thing in the morning that they were actually looking forward to Japan, especially Kyoto, even more than Korea, so I had no choice but to say, "Leave it to me!" One of the guests listened intently with a composed, executive-like air, and asked sharp questions. Whenever a story was particularly interesting, they had a habit — perhaps without even realizing it — of taking off their sunglasses and looking directly at me, listening closely. This made it very easy to read their reactions. The other guest, however, was worn out from jet lag, having barely slept the night before, with drowsy eyes. The smile in the photos looks lovely, but in truth it was a smile forced through great sleepiness. Today we enjoyed a first visit to Kyoto with a mix of a quiet Zen temple with a dry landscape garden where a cool breeze felt wonderful, and a popular spot crowded with people. When we said goodbye, we parted with the Japanese words for "thank you" and "you're welcome." The driver, as always, was thoroughly familiar with every corner of Kyoto, and having someone to consult when guests make sudden requests makes all the difference. I was once again very grateful for help with travel routes and finding restaurants and convenience stores today.

    What's a Private Walking and Hiking Day Tour in Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The tour started as planned, meeting at the hotel lobby at 8:30. We took the Keihan train and the Eizan Electric Railway to Kurama-dera Temple. After visiting Kurama-dera, we hiked across Mount Kurama and came out at the Kibune exit. We had lunch in Kibune, visiting after the riverside dining platform season had ended. After lunch, we returned to Demachiyanagi and took a bus to visit the Kyoto Imperial Palace. After the Kyoto Imperial Palace, we moved by taxi to Nijo Castle. After visiting Nijo Castle, we returned by subway and the Keihan train to the station nearest the guest, where the tour ended. We were able to cover all the requested sightseeing spots, and under clear skies, the guests enjoyed the Kurama hike they had hoped for. A notable stop on the tour was Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kyoto built in the early 17th century as the residence of the Tokugawa shoguns. The castle is famous for its Ninomaru Palace, with its elegantly decorated rooms and "nightingale floors" that chirp when walked upon to warn of intruders. Its surrounding gardens and stone walls offer a vivid glimpse into the power and refined aesthetics of the Edo period.
