What Is a Half-Day Private Tour of Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shibuya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visitors from Europe who had known each other since childhood.
During a stay in Japan, they had relatively flexible time in Tokyo and wished to explore various areas of the city little by little. For this half-day tour, we focused the visit on Shinjuku, Harajuku/Takeshita Street, Cat Street, and Shibuya.
In Shinjuku, after viewing the giant 3D cat monitor outside the east exit of Shinjuku Station, we walked along Godzilla Road and went up to the lobby of a hotel, where they were delighted to see the Godzilla diorama, posters from past films, and the Godzilla head up close. Afterward, I guided them through the restaurant floor on the second floor of Kabukicho Tower, and we also walked through Omoide Yokocho. They said they would like to return another day and that it had been very helpful.
At Meiji Shrine, when passing through the torii gate, they followed the proper etiquette at the purification fountain and the main hall, observing the guide and other worshippers and showing their respect in their own way. We also happened to come across a first-shrine-visit ceremony and two wedding photo sessions in traditional attire, which they watched with great interest.
Overwhelmed by the energy of Takeshita Street, one of the guests, from the perspective of their interest in real estate, entered several capsule-toy and photo-booth shops and seemed impressed by their business style.
On Cat Street, they tried takoyaki for the first time. One of the guests tried just one piece cautiously, while the other happily ate at a quick pace, saying it was delicious.
On the way to Miyashita Park, we stopped by one of the Tokyo Toilets designed by Tadao Ando, and they were fascinated by an explanation of the film "Perfect Days" and the innovative design. Later, they said they would love to visit the Tokyo Toilet near Yoyogi Park, which becomes transparent when unlocked, on their own. At Miyashita Park, they showed interest in the outdoor bouldering wall, the skateboard rink, and the monthly rental umbrella stand system.
After crossing the scramble crossing twice, for lunch both guests happily finished the carbonara udon, which one of them had been especially interested in, saying it was delicious.
Afterward, I guided them to the Nintendo Store inside Shibuya PARCO, in which one of the guests had shown strong interest. When parting, they offered to take a group photo together, and a store clerk took a commemorative picture on one of the guests' smartphones, bringing the tour to an end.

A Truly Special Day in Japan – Unforgettable Experience!
Tripadvisor review: Hakone Full-Day Private Tour(Tokyo DEP.) with Government-Licensed Guide
We had such a special and memorable day—our experience with Tatsu exceeded all expectations. Tatsu’s warmth, knowledge, and friendliness created a truly welcoming and enriching atmosphere from start to finish.
We learned so much about Japanese culture in a way that was both meaningful and accessible, and the entire day felt relaxed yet deeply engaging.
One of the highlights was a visit to Choan-ji Temple, a peaceful spot off the beaten path. There were no tourists—just local families visiting the graves on the grounds for the spring equinox. We even had the chance to meet the head monk. The temple is home to over 200 unique Buddha statues (and growing), each with its own character. It was incredibly special and serene, and something we would never have found on our own.Afterward, we shared stories with others from our business group who also visited Hakone that day—and they were genuinely jealous of the experience we had!
Thank you again for making our time in Japan so personal and unforgettable. We’ll be talking about this day for a long time to come.

Excellent Guide Made Our Hakone Trip Unforgettable
Tripadvisor review: Hakone 6 hour Private Tour with Government-Licensed Guide
We had an amazing day in Hakone thanks to Tatsu, our fantastic guide! From the moment we met, he was friendly, organized, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area’s history, nature, and cultural spots.
Tatsu helped us navigate the Hakone loop effortlessly, including the ropeway, Lake Ashi cruise, and even timed our visit to open air museum perfectly to avoid the crowds.
Tatsu also bought for us some black eggs to extend our lifetimes. It felt like a truly authentic experience.
Highly recommended if you want to make the most of Hakone without any stress. Worth every yen!
