What Can You See on an Evening Private Tour of Kyoto's Gion and Nishiki Market? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. It was everyone's first time in Japan. Since the tour started in the evening at 16:30, the places we could visit were limited, but I took the group to Nishiki Market, Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine, Pontocho, Yasaka Shrine, and Gion (Hanamikoji and Gion Shirakawa). At Nishiki Market, everyone enjoyed freshly fried tempura and were impressed by the variety of ingredients. A request had come through a travel agency asking me to make the tour enjoyable for one of the guests, and I believe the group was very pleased with Nishiki Market. What surprised me even more was that one of the guests asked a question about Buddhist statues. Because the tour started late this time, we only visited shrines, but I was happy to explain about Buddhist statues as well. In the end, the group decided to finish the tour a little early, as one of the guests was hungry and wanted to have dinner soon.

A notable stop on the tour was Yasaka Shrine in Gion. Yasaka Shrine is one of Kyoto's most famous Shinto shrines, founded over 1,300 years ago, and it sits at the eastern end of the lively Gion district. It is well known for the Gion Matsuri, one of Japan's most celebrated festivals, and its vermilion gate and lantern-lit grounds make it a popular place to experience traditional Kyoto atmosphere in the evening.

My name is (Mr.)Michiharu Aioi and I worked at Electronic Manufacturing Company (Panasonic) for more than 40 years in charge of overseas sales.
I learned a lot in these 40 years and now I would like to contribute to the promotion of mutual understanding with foreign countries being involved in tourism busines utilizing my long experience in my previous company. I will do my best to make each trip very fruitful for each foreign visitor.
As for my language ability, in addition to English, I can speak Spanish which I used in my job and I can communicate with Chinese people with intermediate level. Finally It is my great pleasure if my activity could work in the mutual understang with foreign visitors. Thanks a Lot !
