What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Hibiya, the Imperial Palace, Azabudai Hills, and Asakusa The guest was visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania, traveling for a trip. Their flight arrived at Haneda about 90 minutes late this morning, and since work would begin the following day, they used their free day to sightsee in Tokyo. Because the guest wanted to see the many different faces of Tokyo and hear about their historical background within a short time, we chose Hibiya, the Imperial Palace, Azabudai Hills, and Asakusa as our destinations. At the Imperial Palace and Asakusa, I explained the difference between the samurai and the townspeople of the Edo period, and how that distinction continues to this day. As a contrast to the Mokubakan in Asakusa, I also showed them the Kabukiza Theatre so they could observe the difference in the types of audiences. In particular, while walking through Azabudai Hills, the guest remarked, "These people are clearly different from the Japanese I saw on Hoppy Street in Asakusa." The guest was delighted to be able to see two different faces of Tokyo in such a short time. During lunch and while traveling between sites, it was charming to see the guest checking whether the Japanese business customs they had heard about from colleagues were actually correct.

Hello! My name is Hideki Maruyama. I was born in Osaka and raised in the Greater Tokyo area. I obtained my National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter Certificate in February 2016.
I spent 23 years working at a leading Japanese automotive company, including 7 years posted overseas. I then worked for a German premium automotive manufacturer for 13 years, followed by 6 years as an advisor to a British energy company. Through these roles at global corporations, I developed and refined key skills such as:
    1. Cross-cultural communication
    2. A deep understanding of business elites and affluent customers
    3. The ability to deliver impactful and impressive presentations in English
In addition to my regular duties, I often served as an interpreter for top executives during meetings with foreign government officials. I also had opportunities to introduce aspects of Japan—such as our national character and consumer preferences—to leadership teams in both the German and British companies.
As a tour guide, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding guests from a wide range of countries especially after the pandemic, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Laos, Turkey, Jordan, Kenya and Israel.
When guiding, I always keep in mind to go beyond what guests can find on social media or ChatGPT. I believe my professional background allows me to offer unique insights, and I am encouraged when guests mention this in their reviews

What's a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like from Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America and were staying at a hotel near Tokyo Station. They came by Shinkansen, and I met them at Odawara Station. After they purchased a Hakone Free Pass, we toured the area clockwise. Although it was Sunday, the crowds were relatively light, perhaps due to the heat. Since the guests were interested in art museums, I decided to guide them from Gora Station all the way to the Pola Museum of Art. They were very pleased to appreciate art in the midst of a forest of fresh greenery. From the ropeway they were also able to see Mount Fuji, and they happily set off on their return journey from Odawara Station.

What Is a Private Bonsai Village Tour in Omiya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a very close-knit group visiting from Europe. This was their fourth visit to Japan, but their first time visiting the Bonsai Village. At the Bonsai Museum, they were first moved by the lobby bonsai, a rock-planted Japanese white pine combined with lingonberry and pear. They were also very interested in the highlights and history of bonsai. In particular, they were impressed by the tokonoma display, admiring the arrangement of the main bonsai, the side alcove, and the hanging scroll. Although it was a hot day exceeding 30 degrees, everyone said they were fine, so we took our time enjoying the garden as well. The guests viewed each piece carefully, and we had a delightful conversation. They purchased the English versions of the guidebook and history book, along with postcards and magnets, and then headed to the bonsai gardens. At Mansei-en, I introduced the shimpaku juniper that had been exhibited at the Osaka Expo. From among the bonsai pots placed at the back of the garden, each of them found a treasure and made a purchase. Passing through the House of the Four Seasons, we visited Seikou-en and Fuyou-en. After thoroughly enjoying the bonsai, I guided them to their return train at Toro Station (they mentioned they were heading to Shimbashi) and said goodbye. It was a wonderful day.

Hello, my name is Miyuki. I am a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter since 2019. I was born in Saitama, 30 km north of Tokyo. I have lived there until today. I like Japanese traditional culture. I love bonsai and work as a guide in the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum. I am also learning the tea ceremony. Both bonsai and tea ceremonies make you feel relaxed and refreshed. I used to be a member of a Japanese archery club when I was a university student. Visiting shrines, temples and traditional gardens also makes me happy. You cannot miss eating Japanese food and sweets after visiting there. Let’s enjoy walking around Japan together!

What's a Private Asakusa Walking Tour Like in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Some of them worked at the same company. In Asakusa there were many "lucky cats" (maneki-neko), which delighted the group. Since Senso-ji Temple is known for producing many "bad luck" fortunes, I usually do not have guests draw omikuji fortunes here, but before I could stop them, some in the back row drew them, and as expected two received "bad luck." Some of the younger members of the group, though small, managed to twist their bodies through the "womb passage" at Awashima-do Hall, which is said to cure stomachaches. One of the guests asked me, "How many years have you been guiding?" and when I answered "two years," they were surprised and said, "That long already?" As the saying goes, "For a child a day is short and a year is long; for an elder a day is long and a year is short," so their reaction was understandable. When I delivered the group to the final destination, a tonkatsu restaurant, there was a sumo wrestler costume placed at the entrance, so I told the younger members of the group, "You get to wear this and battle a sumo wrestler." At the end, the younger members of the group ran up to me, said "thank you" in Japanese, and each gave me a tip of three thousand yen.

Title: What's a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Shinjuku, Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. This was everyone's first visit to Japan. This time, they were on a two-week trip to Japan. They had arrived at Narita Airport ten days earlier and first headed to the Kansai region. They toured Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and Hiroshima, and then went to Hakone. This morning, they traveled from Hakone to Tokyo, and had just arrived at their hotel a short while ago. It was a tour under clear skies and hot weather. First, in accordance with their wishes, we went to Shinjuku Gyoen. We moved along slowly while taking photos. I explained the origins and history of Shinjuku Gyoen, as well as the Edo period and the Meiji Restoration. Starting from the Japanese garden, we made a full loop. They said, "There is so much greenery, it feels wonderful," and "I would like to create a Japanese garden at my own home." Via Shinjuku Station, we went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building observation deck. Making a loop, I explained the full panorama of Tokyo. Since it was clear, we were able to faintly see Mount Fuji. I explained the origins of Edo and Tokyo. They commented, "I really understand now that Tokyo is a vast city." We headed to the Shinjuku-sanchome east exit. After this, we walked through Kabukicho and Omoide Yokocho. I also explained the history of Kabukicho and the differences between the east and west sides of Shinjuku. They enthusiastically photographed the Godzilla Head and the 3D cat billboard. They commented, "The atmosphere here is different from other parts of Tokyo." They also made comments and asked questions such as, "Not only Tokyo, but other cities too are clean with no litter on the ground," "There are no trash cans on the streets. Why is that?" and "The subway is complex and hard to understand, but I think it is well arranged." I saw them off at Iidabashi Station, where we parted ways.

    Guiding career:
Guide work started in July 2022. A guide focused on FIT compliance.
    FY2022 results: 17 cases, FY2023 results: 97
Destinations: Various places in Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura and Nikko
As a recent group travel record, in October 2023, we have a track record of guiding a group of 33 people from Singapore to Narita Airport transfer plus sightseeing in Tokyo.
    Self-introduction:
In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
I am a certified CPA in the United States.
In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

What Is a Private Day Tour to the Mount Fuji World Heritage Centre in Fujinomiya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I met the group visiting from North America at the port and we headed to the Mount Fuji World Heritage Centre in Fujinomiya City. Everyone had a Suica card, so getting on and off the train went smoothly. Unfortunately Mount Fuji was hidden by clouds and could not be seen, but the guests listened attentively to my explanations of the water basin, the exhibits on Mount Fuji's eruptions, and the touch-panel displays. They also watched the film in the theater carefully. After buying some souvenirs, we ate dango and yakisoba at a side street near Sengen Shrine before returning to Shimizu. We enjoyed delicious seafood rice bowls at the Kashi-no-Ichi market and said our goodbyes at Dream Plaza. One of the guests was not fond of seafood, but I was relieved that there was a favorite children's meal menu available.

What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama, and the Temples — A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Lunch was taken before 11:00, and they finished with ice cream at Fushimi Inari Taisha. At Fushimi Inari Taisha there were relatively few tourists, so I was able to introduce the Omokaru-ishi stones and the Neage-no-Matsu pine. We then went to the Bamboo Grove path in Arashiyama, where the lotus flowers were in bloom, and I introduced a shrine from a distance before we visited the bamboo grove and Tenryu-ji Temple. At Kinkaku-ji, we turned back partway to accommodate one of the guests who had difficulty walking. At Ginkaku-ji as well, some of the group did not climb the hill and instead walked around the pond before turning back, while others went up the hill to enjoy the view and then rejoined the group. It was a very hot day, but everyone made it back to the hotel in good spirits.

What's a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like for First-Time Cruise Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America arriving in Japan for the first time by cruise ship. The only specific request they had made in advance was to see the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, leaving the rest up to me, so I built a full-day sightseeing route circling Tokyo starting from Shibuya. They seemed very satisfied with the hozuki (ground cherry) market at Senso-ji Temple and with shopping at stores such as a 100-yen shop. As they were completely unfamiliar with Tokyo's transportation network and sightseeing information, I provided full attendance and accompanied them all the way to their hotel in Yokohama. They were very grateful that they were able to visit wonderful sights efficiently and return safely to their hotel.
