What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like for Guests with Limited Walking? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today's guests were a group visiting from Oceania, traveling through Tokyo, Takayama, Kanazawa, Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. Since one of the guests had difficulty walking long distances, we used taxis during parts of the tour. They were delighted by the beauty of Togetsukyo Bridge, the bamboo grove, and the garden of Tenryu-ji Temple. Kinkaku-ji was crowded, but the guests were very pleased by its beautiful reflection on the pond. After lunch, we visited Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. Since walking was difficult for one of the guests, that person waited seated while I guided the other to the Senbon Torii (Thousand Torii Gates). Fortunately, it was not very crowded at the time, and they were very pleased. As they requested to be taken to Kyoto Station, we went together to the taxi stand at Kyoto Station and parted ways there. I believe they enjoyed the tour. A notable stop on the tour was Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, one of the most famous shrines in Kyoto. It is renowned for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form winding paths up the sacred Mount Inari. The shrine is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice and prosperity, and its fox statues are considered messengers of the god.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
