    What Is a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Like for European Guests? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. Since one of them had difficulty walking, I made sure to keep the pace slow throughout the tour. Only one person in the group understood English well, while the others understood only a little, so communication was quite challenging. I felt that in the future I would need to be more resourceful, such as by using a voice translation app. For the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and explanations about Japanese history, one of the guests kindly interpreted from English into their own language for the others. At Tsukiji Market, everyone wanted to eat together, so they enjoyed ramen, tempura, and beer at the food court in the Tsukiji Uogashi. In Shibuya they experienced the famous Crossing, and then we returned to Asakusa, where I explained how to get back to their accommodation and we parted ways in front of Sensoji Temple. They were a cheerful and lively group. As we had walked quite a lot, they seemed tired by the end.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Tour Like for Guests Using Walkers? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America. Some of the group used walkers, so we avoided stairs and moved around using elevators and escalators throughout the tour. First, at Tokyo Station, they admired the beautiful Marunouchi Building and took photos. They also said the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and Nijubashi Bridge were wonderful. At the group's request, we visited Koishikawa Korakuen Garden. They left the walkers at the entrance and were able to walk across the stepping stones and enjoy the scenery. After that, we toured Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Shopping Street. Since they wished to have eel for lunch, we enjoyed unagi at a restaurant. As one of the group avoided gluten, the eel was prepared as shirayaki (grilled without sauce). The dish was especially well received and enjoyed. Afterward, we went to the Tokyo Skytree. Since the observation deck admission was expensive, we did not go up, but enjoyed the view from the 5th floor and browsed the shops. We then returned to the Hotel. The weather was fine, and I believe the guests had an enjoyable time.

    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shinjuku, Tsukiji, and Shibuya There was no response to the greeting and inquiry about the desired meeting at the time of booking, nor to the message sent the day before. I displayed a name board in the hotel lobby and was able to meet the guest promptly at 10:50. We began by listening to the request and planning the program. The request was simply to "see the best places" and to "see cherry blossoms." The guest was visiting from North America and had visited Japan once, more than twenty years ago. The guest was a big fan of baseball, wearing a cap with a team logo. Since there were no specific destinations requested, only a wish to be taken to "the recommended best places," I structured the day as follows: 1. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observation Deck 2. Tsukiji Outer Market 3. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden 4. Others Mount Fuji was not visible, but the guest was impressed by the view from the observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, truly feeling the vastness of the metropolitan area. There was no interest in souvenirs. At Tsukiji Market, the guest was not yet hungry, so we only had drinks and took a rest. We visited Namiyoke Shrine, and I provided an explanation. Seeking cherry blossoms, we went to Shinjuku Gyoen, entering through the Sendagaya Gate. The double cherry blossoms and azaleas were splendid, and the guest seemed very satisfied. We had a light meal at a cafe. The next request was the Shibuya Crossing. We moved there and paid a visit to the Hachiko statue. After viewing the crossing from the second-floor concourse, we actually crossed it several times. We passed through Center Gai and headed via Inokashira Street to Shibuya Yokocho at Miyashita Park. The guest enjoyed ramen and other dishes at a restaurant serving Hokkaido cuisine. We had also planned to stroll around Harajuku and Omotesando, but as the guest was tired, we returned to the hotel by taxi and parted ways there. Overall, the guest seemed satisfied. The guest was considering going to Osaka the day after next and asked me to accompany them as a guide, but my schedule did not allow it, so I declined.     What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting the tour. At the Peace Memorial Park, they showed great interest in the historical background, asking questions such as why Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. Because we had to keep to the boat schedule, I regretted that we were not able to fully explore the museum. The guests very much enjoyed the okonomiyaki. At Miyajima, since it was low tide, we were able to walk out to the Great Torii Gate, and they looked with great interest at the actual pillars and other details. They also relaxed thoroughly at the pagoda and at Senjokaku. One of the guests mentioned wanting to have a matcha latte, and I was glad to be able to guide them to a shop offering it.

    • We were scheduled to meet at Yokohama Osanbashi at 8:30, but since we were able to meet with the guests earlier, we departed by car for Kamakura at 8:15. 9:10~10:00 Visited Hokokuji Temple and enjoyed matcha. 10:00~12:30 After visiting Dankazura and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, we had lunch and shopping at Komachi-dori, then moved by car to Kotokuin. During the trip, since the guests wanted to see the first torii gate and the coast, we took a leisurely route along the seaside. 12:45~13:30 After visiting Kotokuin, we took them back to Yokohama Osanbashi.

    What Is a Half-Day Private Kamakura Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group who had met each other on a cruise, and everyone got along well, which was very helpful. We arrived at Hokokuji Temple first thing in the morning while it was still uncrowded, so the group could enjoy the quiet bamboo grove, and it was nice that we could enter Kyukoan tea house without any wait. The cherry blossoms along Dankazura had already finished, but azaleas were in bloom, and we walked toward Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine while taking photos. On Komachi Street, since the guests wanted to grab a quick bite, we enjoyed shirasu-man and Kamakura beer in about 30 minutes. The move to Kotokuin was also free of traffic, and the guests were able to soak up the relaxed atmosphere of Yuigahama beach. They mentioned that once they returned to the ship, they would rest a little and then head out to Minato Mirai in the evening. I believe it was a satisfying half-day tour.

    A Private Day Tour from Yokohama's Osanbashi Pier: A Licensed Guide's Report with a Shinkansen Ride to Tokyo After meeting the guests at Osanbashi Pier, while walking toward Nihon-odori Station, they mentioned they would love to try riding the Shinkansen. So we decided to head to Shin-Yokohama, starting by helping them purchase PASMO cards at Nihon-odori Station. We took the Minatomirai Line and Tokyu Toyoko Line, transferred at Kikuna Station, and took the Yokohama Line to Shin-Yokohama Station. There was quite a bit of trouble with the ticket machines at the Shinkansen transfer gate, which took about 20 minutes, but we safely boarded the Shinkansen to Tokyo Station. While talking about the station and the story of the ceremonial horse-drawn carriage, we discovered double cherry blossoms at Wadakura Fountain Park and everyone took photos together. We continued our stroll from Otemon Gate into the East Gardens, and while answering the various questions from the guests, we passed through Hirakawamon Gate to Otemachi Station and took the Chiyoda Line to Nezu Station. About three restaurants we had counted on for lunch were full, so we ended up having a pasta lunch at a Yanaka bar for the first time. At first the guests were not expecting much, but they were satisfied with the pasta, which was truly Japanese-style Italian. From there, without any explanation, we headed to Nezu Shrine, and everyone was moved when the hill of azaleas came into view. Since the inside was crowded, we passed through the thousand torii gates on the side for a photo time. They enjoyed it very much. We strolled along the Snake Path. Since the guests had never been in a Japanese supermarket, I guided them to the Maruetsu just before Yanaka Ginza, where they observed everything with great curiosity. When I mentioned that Japanese strawberries are delicious, they bought a pack, and we took a short break outside the supermarket with the bottled drinks each of them had purchased. Everyone was impressed by the strawberries. While walking through Yanaka Ginza toward Nippori Station, I asked whether they would prefer one more spot, Asakusa or Shibuya. They said they wanted to see the scramble crossing, so we decided to head to Shibuya. They took plenty of photos and videos both from the sky lobby of Shibuya Hikarie and at the actual crossing. We took a photo of Hachiko from a distance, and that concluded the sightseeing spots. We headed back to Nihon-odori via the Toyoko Line and Minatomirai Line, saw the guests off at Osanbashi Pier, and parted ways. They thanked me, saying that without a guide they would never have been able to visit such unusual places.

    Kawasaki, located between Tokyo and Yokohama near Haneda Airport, is the second station of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido, the 400 years old highway towards Kyoto from Edo (old name of Tokyo). You can do Hand-cut glass experiment, stopping at a bar for sake tasting, visiting Kawasaki-Daishi temple that receives 3 million worshippers in the new year period.

    Another spot is Echigo-Yuzawa in Niigata prefecture, 75 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen train. Echigo-Yuzawa is “Onsen” (hot springs) town. You can enjoy visiting Sake brewery, skiing in winter, veiwing Sakura (cherry blossom) in spring. Appreciation of contemporary art displays in open air and old carvings at temples, in neighboring towns will be also memorable experience.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private Cruise Day Tour from Kobe to Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. Being aware that the cruise ship's port time was quite short, and taking into account the traffic congestion that could occur on the way back, they purchased lunch at a convenience store and ate it during the ride in the private vehicle. I had informed them in advance that the round trip from Kobe, the travel between the sites, and the sightseeing at Kiyomizu-dera would each take a considerable amount of time. At the final stop, Fushimi Inari, one of the guests remarked, "I now really understand how difficult it is to visit many places." During the pre-tour consultation, they had originally hoped to see either Kiyomizu-dera or Nijo Castle, so I asked them to choose one of the two, and we decided to go to Kiyomizu-dera. Everyone was busy taking photographs. When we arrived at Kinkaku-ji right around midday, it was uncrowded. It seems that many tourists choose to visit Kinkaku-ji either first thing in the morning or in the afternoon toward the end of their tour. The photo was taken at the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.

    Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived in Osaka from Europe at the end of March. They reached Hiroshima just before the start time of the tour on the day itself. They kindly told me that they had only just dropped their luggage in their room at the hotel when it was already time for the tour to begin. The booking was made through a travel agency, and although the hotel, tour date, and start time had been changed partway through, it was unfortunate that this made for a tight start for the guests. They were a lovely group, and one of the guests had a remarkable gift for observation. There were two questions I had never been asked before, which gave me a valuable chance to learn as well, and I was very grateful for it.

    What's a Private Tokyo Sightseeing Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from Europe visiting Japan for the first time. Before arriving in Tokyo, they had already visited Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Mount Fuji, and planned to return home after sightseeing in Tokyo. At the Imperial Palace, they listened with great interest to historical explanations about the role of the Emperor, the Meiji Restoration, and the Edo shogunate. At Sensoji Temple, they were fascinated by explanations about the differences between temples and shrines, as well as the Kaminarimon Gate. At Tokyo Solamachi, they were impressed by the sheeer size of the Tokyo Skytree, and at the Pokemon Center some of the guests purchased plush toys and other souvenirs. In Akihabara, some of the guests showed great interest in anime figures. Since they wanted to shop a little longer in Akihabara and could then return to their hotel on their own, we parted ways in Akihabara. I responded to the guests' wishes as requested, so I believe they were satisfied.

    What's a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Rikugien Garden, Tokyo Station, and Ginza The guests were a group visiting from North America. Since they had dietary needs, it took some time to find a lunch spot, but we found a restaurant with steamed vegetable dishes, which also offered choices that suited the preferences of the group, so they were pleased. As the weather was fine, we walked from the Kitte building, enjoying the view of Tokyo Station, and headed toward the Nijubashi Bridge. At Rikugien Garden, it was relatively uncrowded, and the blooming azaleas were beautiful, so the guests fully enjoyed the calm scenery within the garden. After that, we had planned to sightsee in Asakusa, but since one of the guests had once worked in Tokyo long ago and wished to revisit the familiar area of Ginza, we changed the route on short notice. From the rooftop of Ginza Six, the guest offered detailed explanations of the surrounding buildings, down to their finer architectural details. I believe all of the guests enjoyed Tokyo at a relaxed pace.
