When I was a company employee, I lived abroad for 5 years in Los Angeles, 11 and a half years in Washington D.C. and 2 and half years in Brussels. What's a Private Osaka Tour Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle, Shinsekai, and Dotonbori The guests were a group visiting from North America, one of whom had been living in Japan for about four years and whom I had previously guided on a Kobe tour in August 2024. Unfortunately I did not remember this, but the guest recognized me. Due to unfortunate rainy weather, we traveled by taxi for the entire itinerary. At Osaka Castle we were only able to view it from the outside, but the guests seemed satisfied with its beauty and grandeur. They purchased souvenirs at an adjacent shop. At the next spot, Tsutenkaku Tower in Shinsekai, there was little to explain, and since my license did not qualify for free entry, I waited at the exit. In Dotonbori, the guests wished to eat takoyaki, so I recommended a shop for them, which they planned to visit after the tour concluded. One of the guests wanted to buy a jacket because it was cold, so I guided them to a UNIQLO in Shinsaibashi, where we parted ways. I presented one of the guests with a handmade drawstring pouch made by my sister, which was well received. Note 1) As mentioned above, at Tsutenkaku Tower the entrance fee was not waived for my pre-reform "Interpreter Guide License." Regarding this matter, when I visited Tsutenkaku on a tour on November 28, 2025 (JGA-T112979982) and free entry was denied, I reported it to your company. Your representative responded on December 2 of the same year, stating that they had contacted Tsutenkaku, which confirmed there should be no problem with the pre-reform license and that the staff member had likely misunderstood. Today I conveyed this to the staff member, but the explanation was that "entry is only free for travel agency employees or holders of an interpreter guide license." I confirmed with the staff member, asking "Are you certain your explanation is correct?" and received the answer "It is correct." However, since this spot has a fair amount of English explanations available inside and there is little for a guide to explain, I obtained the guests' consent to wait at the exit. Honestly, I found this somewhat questionable. Note 2) As mentioned above, this was the second time I had guided these guests, and I felt apologetic for not recognizing them. When I checked the previous records, the surname appeared to be different. I felt the guests themselves had not been aware of it until that day.

real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident

1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, and Kinkaku-ji I guided a group visiting from North America on a private day tour of Kyoto. We had originally planned lunch after Kinkaku-ji, but because the forecast called for heavier rain in the afternoon, we headed to Fushimi Inari Taisha before lunch instead. It was already raining, and with many people carrying umbrellas the site was crowded, so it was difficult to make our way forward, but Fushimi Inari Taisha was the place one of the guests had been most looking forward to. Afterward, for lunch they tried yakiniku, and the guests enjoyed it very much, along with some beer. They also mentioned that they wanted to recommend this restaurant to a colleague who is planning to visit Kyoto in the future. We then went to Kiyomizu-dera. Because the rain had become quite heavy, there were fewer people than usual, and we were able to take good photos with the stage in the background. During our conversation, I learned that the guests had loved Japanese animation since childhood and had wanted to experience the Japanese culture behind it. Even in the rain, they captured many different scenes in their photos. At the end, they gave the driver and me some chocolate from North America. They were shy and truly lovely guests.

The guests were colleagues traveling together on their annual overseas trip. Because a heavy rain forecast was issued for the morning, we consulted in advance and adjusted the itinerary, visiting the Peace Memorial Park first since it centers on indoor sightseeing. What Is a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was hazy throughout the day, and Mount Fuji occasionally became hidden from view, but for the most part we could see it clearly all the way to the summit, so the guests were very satisfied. Thanks to starting a little earlier, we were able to move around smoothly without the crowds and long queues at the ropeway that I had been worried about. At Owakudani, the guests enjoyed the scenery as well as the black eggs and the black soft-serve ice cream. At the Hakone Checkpoint, the guests listened to my explanations with great interest. At Onshi Park, some cherry blossoms still remained, so this too was enjoyed. The guests also visited Hakone Shrine (and the Kuzuryu Shrine annex) with evident interest. In the end, the guests told me they had a very enjoyable and satisfying day.

I have worked as a diplomat for 48 years until last year(2024), so I think I am good at explaining anything about Japan in English. What's a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Ginkaku-ji, the Philosopher's Path, and Fushimi Inari We were able to meet earlier than scheduled. One of the guests had visited Japan before, while the others were visiting for the first time. Since I had been asked to help with purchasing IC cards, we bought them at Kyoto Station. I explained that IC cards can generally be used in other regions as well, and that if they became unnecessary, the 500 yen issuance fee would be refunded, and then we took the subway and bus to Ginkaku-ji. At Ginkaku-ji, the guests said they liked its calm atmosphere. One of the guests asked why it is called Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion), so I explained that although the pavilion is not actually coated in silver, it came to be called Ginkaku from the Edo period onward in comparison with Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), which they found convincing. The cherry blossoms along the Philosopher's Path had mostly fallen, but the guests were pleased to see some double-flowered cherry blossoms. After stopping by Honen-in along the way, we headed to lunch. We entered an okonomiyaki restaurant, and the guests were interested, taking photos of it being cooked and asking about the ingredients. They said it was delicious, and they treated me as well. Next, we took the subway and Keihan line to Fushimi Inari. At Fushimi Inari, the countless orange torii gates and the vast number of small shrine mounds seemed to make a strong impression. We then returned to Kyoto Station by JR at around 15:35. Since tomorrow's itinerary was planned to begin by going from Kyoto Station to Arashiyama, we arranged to meet at JR Kyoto Station at 9:00 am rather than at the Hotel, and we said goodbye.

Hiro in Japanese means large or big. Although I’m neither large nor big, you can call me Hiro. How are you doing ?
I lived in a city nearby Kobe city. Do you know Kobe ? Kobe is famous for Kobe beef and pearl. If you have not yet had Kobe beef, you should taste the authentic Kobe beef. It is very satisfying taste. But I have recently moved to a city in Kyoto prefecture, so I can be in Kyoto city in about one hour. By the way, I am a family of four. I have a son and a daughter. My son now works in Tokyo. I sometimes go to Tokyo to see him. Tokyo is a huge city, but too crowded, so it seems not to suit me. I seem to be better suited to a small city than a big one. Where do you live in ? How many families do you have ? If you like, please tell me about them. I worked in the quality assurance department of a pharmaceutical company and visited the factories of foreign affiliated companies, so I became interested in foreign cultures and obtained a qualification as an interpreter guide in 2015.

I have been a guide for about eight years. During that time, I have guided in Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Kochi and so on, although I could do little guiding work between 2020 and 2022 due to COVID-19. However, since last year, my guiding work has been back! So, I am happy to be able to meet different people again. My hobby is travelling, but sadly, I am not in a position to travel abroad easily at the moment due to the very weak yen, and I hope to travel abroad again when the situation eases a bit more.
How many countries have you been to so far ? Which countries have you liked so far? Another hobby is watching sports – baseball and football. Do you like the baseball ? Do you know Otani, Japanese baseball player ? He has joined Dodgers in Los Angeles this year. I look forward to another successful year for Otani.

By the way, what interests you in Japan? Food, history, scenery ? As far as tourist attractions are concerned, famous places are too crowded. What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like for a First-Time Visitor? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a first-time visitor to Japan from Europe. The guest had arrived at Haneda Airport the previous night and planned to stay in Japan for two weeks. The day before, the guest had explored the area around the Imperial Palace and Ginza on foot. This time, the guest was visiting Japan accompanying someone on their trip. On this day, that person could not join due to their schedule. The plan was to stay in Tokyo for four days, then travel to Kyoto for two days (in Kyoto, they intended to sightsee together), then continue to another destination in Asia for about a week before returning home. The guest expressed a strong interest in Japanese history and culture, and hoped to see cherry blossoms if possible. It was a tour under almost hot weather. First, we headed to Tokyo Skytree, which had been reserved in advance. The guest said they wanted to get an overview of Tokyo as a whole. The guest went up to the observation deck alone, while I waited at the elevator exit. Afterward, the guest remarked, "I now understand that Tokyo is truly a vast city," and, "There were clouds, so I couldn't see Mount Fuji." We then moved to Asakusa. Starting from the front of Kaminarimon Gate, I explained the history of Sensoji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo, the purpose of the five-story pagoda, the basics of Buddhism, and the differences between Buddhism and Shinto. We took commemorative photos at Kaminarimon, in front of the five-story pagoda, and at various other spots. The weeping cherry blossoms in the temple grounds had mostly fallen. We slowly strolled through the crowded Nakamise shopping street, which was full of visitors from overseas. There were questions such as, "What is Japan's main religion?", "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?", and "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people follow?" There was also a question: "I see many people wearing kimono in the temple grounds. Why is that? Are they all Japanese?" The guest purchased omamori charms as souvenirs. We then went to Tsukiji, which was as crowded as ever. After a quick look around the Tsukiji Uogashi, we slowly strolled through the outer market. I explained the history of the fish market dating back to the Edo period, and the difference between Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji outer market. There were questions and comments such as, "Do all Tokyo residents come here to buy fish?" and, "It's crowded, but it does seem like there are many tourists." Wanting to try something, the guest sampled tuna sushi. We then moved to Harajuku. Meiji Shrine was full of visitors. I explained about Shinto, the torii gate, Emperor Meiji, why sake barrels are displayed there, and why wine barrels are also displayed. There were questions such as, "What kind of religion is Shinto?" and, "How does Buddhism differ from Shinto?" We also encountered a family celebrating Shichi-Go-San, and, with permission, took a photo. We strolled through the very crowded Takeshita Street. We took a short break at a nearby café. From there, we headed to teamLab Borderless, which had been reserved for 15:30. There were comments and questions such as, "The city is clean and there's no litter on the streets," "The public toilets are clean, and free too," "There are no trash cans on the streets. Why is that?", "Everyone is quiet on the trains," and, "There are vending machines everywhere." There was also a comment comparing this to public transportation back home, noting that it was much dirtier there. We parted ways at the entrance to teamLab Borderless.

They arrived at Haneda Airport the previous night and planned to stay in Japan for about two weeks. The day before, they had explored the area around the Imperial Palace and Ginza on foot. The main purpose of this trip to Japan was to join a group cycling tour of about 15 people (using electric-assist bicycles), mainly traveling by bicycle around the Izu Peninsula and Nagano Prefecture. Afterward, they planned to visit Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara, then return to Tokyo before heading home. They expressed a wish to see cherry blossoms if possible. They had originally hoped to visit the Tokyo National Museum, but unfortunately it was closed that day. Although the sky was cloudy, the weather was pleasantly mild during the tour. Before the tour, the guests wanted to buy a SUICA card, so we went to the travel concierge at Ueno Station. From there, we first headed to Asakusa. We started in front of the Kaminarimon Gate. I explained the history of Sensoji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo, the purpose of the five-story pagoda, an introduction to Buddhism, and the differences between Buddhism and Shinto. What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama and Kinkaku-ji Today I guided a group visiting from Oceania on a private tour of Kyoto. The guests were on a long journey covering Tokyo, Hakone, Kanazawa, Takayama, Kyoto, Okayama, and Osaka. We first visited the Tenryu-ji Temple garden and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Perhaps because it was early in the morning, it was not very crowded, which was wonderful. The green of the bamboo grove after the rain was very beautiful. After that, the guests looked at some souvenirs, and then we went to Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion). Here too, we were able to visit at a time when there were fewer people, so we could enjoy it at a relaxed pace, which was great. Title: What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Asakusa, Ginza, and Shibuya The guests were visitors from North America. While I was guiding them at the Imperial Palace, an imperial carriage happened to be in training, which delighted one of the guests who loves horses. In Asakusa, I took them to try monjayaki, and they seemed to enjoy both the taste and the performance of cooking it. Since one of the guests wanted to buy a small sake barrel, I guided them to a small local sake shop. In Ginza, I showed them the Kabukiza Theatre and a department store, and they took particular interest in the kabuki costumes and makeup, examining them closely. In Shibuya, they were deeply moved by Hachiko, which they had seen in a film. At the crossing, when I asked them to count how many people were crossing at that moment, they laughed and said it was impossible to count. The guests had very calm and pleasant personalities. Along the way, I took around 100 photos for them. The weather was fine, and I believe they had an enjoyable time.
