Title: What Can You See on a Short Private Tokyo Tour Between Cruise Stops? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of four visiting Japan for the first time. Their nationality and origin were in Europe, but they now live in Oceania and are enjoying life after retirement. Their requests were: "Please let us walk slowly," "Please use elevators and escalators rather than stairs as much as possible," and "We don't need lunch, but please include several rest breaks along the way." Two weeks earlier, they had arrived at Haneda Airport. After one night in Tokyo, they boarded a cruise ship from the Port of Yokohama for a cruise around Japan. This morning, the ship called at the Port of Yokohama at 05:00. Today, they plan to board the same cruise ship, scheduled to depart at 16:30, for another route around Japan. This tour came from their request to sightsee in Tokyo during this window. They wished to "experience the atmosphere of Tokyo in a short time." They also mentioned that every year the same group enjoys an overseas cruise trip together. It was a tour in the midst of extreme heat. First, we went from the nearest Nihon-odori Station via Yokohama Station to Tokyo Station. The East Gardens of the Imperial Palace were crowded despite the heat. I explained "Japanese history and the imperial family." There were questions such as "When was it built as a castle?", "Why did Edo Castle become the Imperial Palace?", and "What was the Meiji Restoration?" There were also questions such as "Does the Emperor live inside here?", "Can we not meet the Emperor?", "What is the relationship between the Emperor and the Prime Minister?", and "Who will become the next Emperor?" We took a break at a Starbucks cafe near Wadakura Fountain Park. After this, we moved to Shinjuku. First, we went up to the observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Unfortunately, we could not see Mount Fuji, but it was well received, with comments that "we could get a good sense of what Tokyo is like." They spotted Meiji Shrine and asked, "Why is there such a vast forest in the middle of the city center?" After this, we returned to Shinjuku Station and leisurely strolled through Omoide Yokocho and Kabukicho. The comment was that "the atmosphere is different from other places." After that, we moved to Shibuya, crossed the scramble crossing, and took commemorative photos in front of the Hachiko statue. There was a question, "Why are there so many people and so much congestion?" Here too, we took a break at a Starbucks cafe inside Mark City. Comments included: "Japanese people all seem kind and considerate of others." "The whole city is clean. There is no litter on the ground." "Why can't we find trash cans around the city?" "The subway is quiet, with no one making noise." "The public toilets are clean and pleasant." I saw them off at Nihon-odori Station, put them in a taxi to Osanbashi Pier, and we parted ways.

    Guiding career:
Guide work started in July 2022. A guide focused on FIT compliance.
    FY2022 results: 17 cases, FY2023 results: 97
Destinations: Various places in Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura and Nikko
As a recent group travel record, in October 2023, we have a track record of guiding a group of 33 people from Singapore to Narita Airport transfer plus sightseeing in Tokyo.
    Self-introduction:
In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
I am a certified CPA in the United States.
In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like on a Hot Summer Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests did not appear at the meeting time, which caused a little concern, but they joined me safely five minutes later and we started the tour. Based on the phone number I had guessed they might be from Europe, but they were a group from Europe whose native language was German. As the person most fluent in English was one of the guests, when I needed to give a somewhat difficult explanation I spoke to that person, who then interpreted for the rest of the group. This day was an extremely hot day with a maximum temperature close to body temperature, so at both Asakusa and Meiji Shrine we frequently stopped to buy drinks and let everyone take breaks. Partly because of the weather, we proceeded at a relaxed pace throughout. After guiding them along Takeshita Street I had intended to see them back to their hotel, but as they seemed to want to stay a little longer in Harajuku to have lunch, we ended the tour in front of Harajuku Station and parted ways there.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

Title: What's a Private Food-Focused Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. One of them had previously studied Japanese and seemed especially interested in Japanese cuisine, knowing the names of many types of fish. This led us into a conversation about homophones in Japanese. The word "tako" can mean both the octopus in the sea and the kite flown in the sky, and one of the guests pointed out that a kite's shape actually resembles a squid more than an octopus. I explained that during the Edo period, kites were indeed called "ika" (squid), but kite-flying became so wildly popular among ordinary people that the government of the time, which disapproved of such amusements, banned it. The witty townspeople of Edo, however, escaped the restriction by insisting that these were not "ika" (squid) but "tako" (octopus), and therefore not illegal. Despite my explanation, the story unfortunately did not quite come across. This tour was arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures. [Japan Guide Agency](https://www.j-g-a.org/) is a winner of the Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Best of the Best and is not affiliated with the Japan Guide Association.

Originally, I’m a cycling guide doing cycling tours all over Japan.
But, already done Hiroshima & Miyajima tour more than 400 times.
I traveled many countries in my younger days. I traveled Europe, US, China, India, US, Mexico, Peru Australia, NZ, and so on.
I decided to use this experience to become a guide.
I’m afraid but no tipping required, because cycling guides are not allowed to have tipping in my association. And you do not need to pay for my lunch, because my lunch is prepared by our group.
Please do not hesitate to ask me anything, I’ll change the plan according to your requests.
Thank you for your understanding and please stay connected.

What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Koishikawa Korakuen, Tsukiji, and Tokyo Tower As I had anticipated from the location of the Hotel, the guests were part of a group visiting Japan. Since they wished to purchase a 3-day subway free pass, we first traveled from Shin-Okubo Station to Takadanobaba Station, where I guided them to a staffed counter where the pass could be purchased. The guests seemed interested in Japanese gardens, so I chose Koishikawa Korakuen as our first stop, as it is easily accessible from Takadanobaba Station. In summer, Koishikawa Korakuen is often plagued by mosquitoes, and this time everyone got bitten, but the insect repellent spray I had brought from home proved somewhat helpful. Since lunch and the explanations at Tsukiji finished a little earlier than expected, I took them to Tokyo Tower at the end, and we parted ways at Kamiyacho Station on the way back.

What Is a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Asakusa The guests were a group visiting from North America. Since the hotel had been listed under one name, I was waiting at the hotel by that name, but I received a phone call explaining that they were staying at the newer hotel of a similar name nearby, so I moved there right away and was able to meet up with them. I made a note to be more careful about this in the future. We visited Meiji Shrine, where the guests enjoyed ice cream and bought souvenirs, and they also did some shopping on Takeshita Street. In Shibuya they enjoyed ramen, and in Asakusa they took in the view from the observation deck of the Asakusa Culture and Tourist Information Center before I introduced them to Nakamise-dori, the five-story pagoda, and the main hall, after which we ended the tour. It was hot, but it was not too crowded, and I believe the guests had an enjoyable time.

Can You Do a Private Day Trip from Osaka to Hiroshima and Miyajima? A Licensed Guide's Report The group came on a day trip from Osaka. Since they wished to see as much as possible and had already visited Osaka Castle and Himeji Castle, I first guided them to Shukkeien Garden, then the Peace Memorial Park, and finally Miyajima. The group had a great deal of energy and enjoyed walking, so although it was a hot day, we used public transportation as much as possible and kept moving briskly on foot. For lunch we enjoyed okonomiyaki, and we took a break with some ice cream. They were a very friendly and well-mannered group who often shared jokes throughout the day.

Hi, I’m Kahori, a nationally licensed tour guide, and delighted to show people around this area. For the past almost 10 years, I have mainly guided foreign medical professionals around Hiroshima City and Miyajima, gaining a deep understanding of the effects of radiation and the support for A-bomb survivors.
Hiroshima is a city of rivers and the sea. Along the rivers Cherry trees line, and the calm Seto Inland Sea, dotted with islands, creates a stunning landscape. Also, the sea has many islands called “art islands” which have fantastic arts relating to the art festival “Setouchi Triennale”. In addition to our two World Heritage Sites, this area is rich in attractive resources. I hope many of you will come and experience this fascinating land. Personally, I am very passionate about modern art and enjoy sports like stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) on our rivers.
I look forward to meeting you, interacting with you, and also, learning from you!

What Is a Private Walking Tour of Takayama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a very friendly group who were kind and enjoyed jokes. Although the rainy season had just ended and the sky was cloudy, the temperature exceeded 30 degrees, yet they preferred to walk slowly and carefully took the time to view each site one by one. They were very pleased with the wind chime festival at Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine and the decorations at the purification fountain. The recent weather can be a little harsh for walking, but this time the guests were very energetic, which was wonderful. For some reason, on this particular day, what may have been a pit viper and a lizard appeared on the road, and there was a moment full of laughter as one of the guests tried to catch and show them while I did my best to stop them. I am truly glad they seemed to enjoy the tour.

I was born, raised, and still live in Takayama, and I am a licensed National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter.

My guiding philosophy is to create unforgettable memories through warm, cheerful, and engaging experiences. I enjoy sharing not only the highlights of the region, but also the history, culture, and stories that make each place unique.

I studied International Relations at a national university and have built a diverse career in the tourism industry, including hotels, travel agencies, and the local tourism association. Today, I primarily guide luxury travelers, as well as private and group tours, offering authentic cultural experiences, visits with local artisans, and in-depth insights into Japanese traditions.

I also practice Japanese calligraphy, the Omotesenke school of tea ceremony, Sencha (Baisa-ryu), and kimono dressing, allowing me to incorporate traditional Japanese culture into my tours.

I mainly guide in Takayama, Okuhida, Shirakawa-go, Gokayama, Kanazawa, and Kamikochi. I look forward to helping make your visit to Japan a truly memorable experience.

One of the guests spoke a little Japanese, having studied online, with this trip being the first time actually using Japanese in person. For lunch I recommended okonomiyaki, and they particularly enjoyed the sauce. During the day it was low tide, so the guests were able to appreciate up close just how large the torii gate is. On Omotesando, I also allowed a little free time so that everyone could enjoy exploring on their own. We were also lucky enough to see a festival at Sumiyoshi Shrine from Peace Memorial Park. I had thought the weather might be poor, but in the end it turned out to be a hot day.

Hi. I’m Michi. I’m a national licensed tour guide in English.
I want to introduce many faces and charms of Japan and make your stay in Japan more fascinating and satisfying.

I was born and raised in Hiroshima. My first tour in English was as a volunteer guide for the visitors to my school when I was a junior high school student. It gave me a great opportunity to study about the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
I spent my life in Hiroshima except for 6 years; 1 year in the UK as a student and 5 years working in Singapore and Malaysia. During this period I enjoyed meeting and talking with people from different cultural backgrounds.
These experiences encouraged me to be a licensed tour guide.

In Hiroshima, there are two famous World Heritage Sites, the Atomic Bomb Dome in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial & Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima.
I have experienced many tours of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum & Park since I was a junior high school student. I would like to introduce you to the a-bomb legacies that are still existing in the city and the stories under the mushroom cloud.
I also would like to share time with you on a historic island, Miyajima. There is one of the most famous Shinto shrines, the Itsukushima Shrine. We can share an enjoyable time by exploring a sacred atmosphere, tradition, nature, food, etc.

I am also an official ‘A-bomb legacy successor’ designated by the City of Hiroshima. An A-bomb Legacy Successor is a memory keeper of the A-bomb survivors. To ensure that the A-bomb survivors’ experiences and desires for peace are faithfully inherited and shared with as many people as possible, the City has started a three-year training program for official ‘A-bomb Legacy Successors. ‘

Let me support your stay in Japan and I look forward to showing you the best of Japan!
    Hope to see you soon!

Title: What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. Since they were leaving Hakone the following day, I paid close attention to time management so that we could meet as many of their wishes as possible. What impressed me most was their great curiosity — at the Hakone Open-Air Museum, they took their time to look carefully at the works. One of the guests also tried "katsudon," and the simple comment "It was delicious!" was a relief to me as well. As it was a weekend just after the end of the rainy season, I had expected crowds, but it was still fairly quiet. Having twice before been unable to board the pirate ship because it was full, which had become something of a personal worry, I was very happy to accomplish the mission this time.

Thank you for your entry in this tour. Nice to meet you in this mail.
Your tour guide Kappa is my nickname. Kappa is a traditional, imaginary creature who came into being in Japan over 300 years ago. She is good at swimming, like me, for I like swimming. I would like to make our tour operated smoothly as Kappa does when she swims in the river or pond. It is my pleasure to introduce many aspects in our tour, especially cooking, for it is my hobby and I went to the professional cooking and SAKE school, respectively. If you have any questions or requests about Japanese cooking, of course our tour, I am very delighted to answer to you anytime!

What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America for their first time in Japan. After sightseeing in Tokyo, they planned to travel to Nagoya and Kyoto. At Shinjuku Gyoen, they appeared deeply impressed by the beauty of the Japanese garden. In Shibuya, they showed great interest in the lively atmosphere of the scramble crossing. For lunch, I guided them to a curry restaurant that offered vegetarian options. At Meiji Shrine, they were moved by the vast and solemn atmosphere. In Asakusa, they showed interest in the souvenir shops along Nakamise Street. I responded to the guests' requests as they wished, so I believe they were satisfied.
