    What Can You See on a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from Europe, and while some of the group had been to Japan several times before, it was a first visit for others. They mentioned that they had booked a licensed guide this time because they wanted to gain knowledge about shrines and temples. We arrived at Meiji Shrine early and spent a relaxed time there, and they purchased many charms and other items. They were also very satisfied with the historical explanations at the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. The Sanja Matsuri festival in Asakusa was crowded, but I had a special spot from which we could watch at a leisurely pace, and they were amazed by the sheer number of people. After that, I guided them through Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Although it was hot, they walked through it thoroughly.

    What Is a Private Osaka Day Tour Like for Guests with Limited Mobility? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. One of the guests used a wheelchair and found stairs nearly impossible to manage, so we moved very slowly throughout the day. The weather was excellent today, but it was unusually hot (the thermometer in the car read 32 degrees Celsius), so I believe the guests became quite tired. They seemed to enjoy shopping and made a point of stopping at souvenir shops at each spot, purchasing many gifts. At Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, they picked up the small "Godairiki" pebbles, a popular attraction, and also bought the amulet pouches for them. Within the shrine grounds, they were very interested to see many families visiting for Omiyamairi celebrations. They also enthusiastically stroked the popular "petting rabbit" (it is said that stroking the same part of the body where you have an ailment will help heal it). At Kuromon Market, they watched with interest as a tuna was being butchered. They enjoyed many samples and tastings, including roasted chestnuts, black bean tea, pickles, and dried wakame, and purchased dried wakame, wasabi beans, and raisins as souvenirs. At Dotonbori, they enjoyed and purchased the soft-serve ice cream made popular by the Turkish performance. I presented them with a handmade drawstring pouch made by a member of my family, and they were delighted, saying it was very unusual and beautifully designed. Today's driver also provided courteous service and driving, and the guests appeared very satisfied. I believe today's tour was quite demanding and tiring for the guests.

    real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
    if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

    1) Tako-yaki
    Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
    octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
    This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
    Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
    Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
    ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

    Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
    that you like them very much.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Sumida River Cruise, Odaiba, and Asakusa The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania, and they chose this tour for their first visit. Since a "Sumida River Cruise" was a must-have request from the guests, I created the tour plan to fit the cruise schedule. As the cruise on the day departed at 11:00, I asked the guests to book that cruise in advance, and we started the tour with visits to Odaiba and the former Shiba Rikyu Garden, both near Hinode Pier. It was a fine day, so the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower could be seen clearly, and I showed the guests the great metropolis of Tokyo from the bayside, helping them understand that Tokyo has expanded through land reclamation. Since I had once been involved in the land reclamation and the construction of high-rise apartments in the Odaiba area, I also explained the ground improvement of reclaimed land against earthquakes and the earthquake-resistant structures of buildings, helping them understand Tokyo's disaster prevention. As Oceania is also an earthquake-prone region, they showed strong interest in disaster prevention, and the guests carefully conveyed these points among themselves. The Sumida River Cruise was also under clear skies, and we proceeded in a pleasant river breeze. Many bridges span the river, and the guests took interest in each bridge, including the design of Kiyosu Bridge, which became a symbol of recovery from the great fires since the Edo period and the Great Kanto Earthquake. The first half of the tour became something like a tour on "the history and present of Tokyo's disaster prevention." In Asakusa, the guests strolled around Senso-ji Temple. The Sanja Matsuri festival happened to be taking place, so we were able to watch the portable shrines proceed through the Senso-ji grounds and be dedicated to Asakusa Shrine. When I explained that the mikoshi serves as a "portable shrine" and that the shrine parades through the town, they laughed and admired it, saying, "Japanese people are good at making everything small." Having only arrived in Japan the day before, and combined with the high temperature of the day, the guests became tired, so at their request I saw them back to the Hotel and ended the tour.

One of the guests had read a well-known novel set in Japan and already had some knowledge of the country. Walking 14–15 km every day is a hobby for the guests, who love nature. They even stopped to take a photo in front of an ordinary bamboo fence and thicket! The guests were far more energetic on their feet than I had imagined, so the visit to Meiji Shrine finished quickly, with just a short look at the souvenir shops. We took the JR Yamanote Line to the Shibuya crossing (the guests wanted to experience one stop by train). However, to avoid the heat and crowds, we took a taxi again to Tsukiji Market. Including a restroom break, we moved along smoothly. From Tsukiji we took a taxi to the Hirakawamon gate of the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, entering earlier than planned. I guided them around the large lawn where the former castle keep foundation stands. As we headed toward the Ninomaru Garden, the sound of gagaku court music drifted from the Music Department building, and we paused to listen for a while. The garden offered scenery with azaleas in full bloom and colorful koi. Since the guests had eaten a hearty breakfast, we skipped lunch and headed to Asakusa. In the taxi, one of the guests, who prefers natural foods, mentioned wanting dried ginger to ease some stomach discomfort. It was of course not available at convenience stores, so at the medicine section on the 4th floor of the Don Quijote in Asakusa I inquired with a staff member. After some back-and-forth (using the guest's smartphone app to convey detailed symptoms and product names), I explained that it is not sold at general pharmacies in Japan. The guest understood, purchased dried mango instead, and the symptoms settled. We viewed the main hall of Sensoji Temple from outside, then walked around the Yogodo area → Hanayashiki-dori → Nishi-Sando shopping street → Hoppy Street → Denboin-dori → Shin-Nakamise shopping street → the back streets of Nakamise → and finally to the Kaminarimon gate. It was just about time to finish, so I guided them to the taxi stand and we parted with smiles.

    What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera and Arashiyama Today's tour was for a group of guests visiting from North America. They had already visited Tokyo, and after Kyoto they planned to travel by cruise ship to Hakodate, Niigata, and Kagoshima, and also to visit Busan. The weather was clear, which was fortunate, but it was a midsummer day with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees, which seemed too hot for the guests from North America. To save time, we first took a taxi to Kiyomizu-dera, where we explored the temple thoroughly, and then the guests enjoyed leisurely shopping along Sannenzaka. After that, we transferred between an uncrowded city bus and the Randen tram to head to Arashiyama, where we had lunch right away at a restaurant. It was not yet crowded, and the guests were pleased. We then strolled through the bamboo grove and Kameyama Park. We had planned to visit Fushimi Inari Taisha as well, but since the guests had another appointment in the evening, we returned to the Hotel and parted ways there. I believe they enjoyed the tour.

    Title: What Can You See on an 8-Hour Private Tokyo Tour Before a Sumo Dinner in Asakusa? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe, on a roughly two-week trip through Japan planning to visit Shibu Onsen, Kanazawa, Takayama, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara. One of the guests had previously been to Japan for work, but this was their first time sightseeing here. Since they had reserved a dinner with a sumo show in Asakusa starting at 6:00 p.m., I planned the itinerary so that after the 8-hour tour we could move smoothly to the dinner venue, while also allowing them to see as many places as possible, as they had requested. We left their Hotel in Ginza and walked along Ginza Chuo-dori to the Ginza 4-chome intersection, pointing out characteristic Ginza buildings and shops along the way, then boarded the subway. At Meiji Shrine, I had hoped the irises might be starting to bloom, so we also entered the inner garden. Unfortunately they had not yet opened, but we were able to touch the water of Kiyomasa's Well and take commemorative photos. One of the guests, who always buys a magnet as a souvenir when traveling, purchased a magnet at Meiji Shrine. Our next destination, Shibuya, had been visited the previous evening as well, so we looked around briefly, then took the Yamanote Line to Hamamatsucho and walked to Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower. Along the way we found a taiyaki shop, and when I introduced taiyaki as a traditional Japanese sweet, the guests tried both the red bean and custard varieties. For lunch, we moved to Roppongi and had takeout curry, purchased in front of a Vietnamese restaurant, in the free space inside Tokyo Midtown Roppongi. There was a small mishap when the curry, heated in the microwave, was pointed out as not being warm enough, and I helped reheat it, but after a rest everyone was able to catch their breath and recover their energy, and we strolled through the National Art Center and Aoyama Cemetery. At Aoyama Cemetery, the guests laughed when we discovered a grave with a miniature-sized car (probably the deceased's beloved car in life) placed in front of the headstone. From Nogizaka Station we took the Chiyoda Line to Kasumigaseki Station and strolled from Sakuradamon toward Tokyo Station while introducing the Imperial Palace. Around the Tatsumi Yagura turret, one of the guests seemed quite tired from walking, so we decided to take a cafe break nearby. Starbucks was declined as being too American, so we went to a cafe inside the Shin-Marunouchi Building. Only two seats were available, so I waited outside. After resting for a while and recovering their energy, we headed to our final destination, Asakusa. In Asakusa, after strolling around Senso-ji Temple and Sumida Park, we searched Google Maps for the location of the 6:00 sumo dinner. We confirmed it was about a ten-minute walk away, and since they planned to explore the area on their own for the remaining hour before the start, I guided them back to the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center as their starting point, and we said our goodbyes.

    Can You Do a Private Day Tour of Tokyo Covering the Imperial Palace, Shibuya Sky, and Ginza? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were senior visitors from North America on their first trip to Japan. Starting the day after this tour, they were scheduled to join a group tour traveling by land, including the Shinkansen, to visit various parts of Japan, including Kyoto. We began at the Imperial Palace. Strolling from Sakuradamon Gate past the Nijubashi Bridge and the Main Gate, we made our way to Tokyo Station. After showing them the Shinkansen platforms at the Yaesu exit, we boarded the Yamanote Line and headed to Shibuya. At the guests' request, they had purchased tickets for Shibuya Sky before coming to Japan, and we went up to the observation facility, which they had reserved for 11:00. The weather was fine, and we were able to take commemorative photos at the scenic spot without much of a wait. One of the guests found the open-air atmosphere of Shibuya Sky very pleasant, and I helped take photos of them lying on the hammock. Having their built-up expectations fulfilled exactly as hoped, they were greatly satisfied, calling it "the highlight of the day." For the move to the next destination, since one of the guests wanted to avoid the subway, they requested a taxi from Shibuya. However, when we headed to the taxi stand, there was a very long line, and taxis did not seem to be arriving frequently. So I moved to a spot where it would be easier to catch a ride and tried to call a taxi via an app, and while I was looking at my phone screen, one of the guests quickly raised a hand and caught a passing taxi. Grateful for their quick action, we moved on to Ginza. Two days earlier, I had received an email message that one of the guests wanted to buy a rare luxury watch in Ginza, and since I had identified a store most likely to carry it, we went there directly. Unfortunately, what they were looking for was not found, and we checked a few other stores as well, but in the end it proved fruitless. Giving up, we walked along the pedestrian-only main street of Ginza and were heading toward a knife shop that another of the guests wished to visit. As we passed in front of Ginza YAMAHA, one of the guests reacted strongly and wanted to stop in, and when I asked, it turned out they played the piano. First they tried out instruments in the keyboard section on the fifth floor, and when we came down to the first floor, they took notice of a grand piano (C3) created in 2000 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Yamaha piano manufacturing, and played it here as well. After playing, they showed me an Elton John tattoo on their arm. They shared a photo of the piano at their home, which even to an untrained eye was a very high-level grand piano. They explained it was a C6X, a level beyond the aforementioned C3, and although I did not ask in detail, I gathered they were a professional musician. In high spirits, one of the guests then happily accompanied the other's shopping at Seisuke knife shop, which had opened just four months earlier. Although I, as a guide, have been to Asakusa and Kappabashi many times, this was my first visit to the Ginza store. The way the knives were presented in the store was refined to a level one could call museum-quality. The staff were perfectly bilingual and explained everything until the guests were fully satisfied, and as a result they purchased two high-end knives. They said these were a gift for their child. Finally, they purchased cookies on the first floor of the nearby Shiseido Parlour, and since one of the guests was tired and the other was very satisfied with the shopping, they decided to cancel the originally planned shopping in the department store food hall and return to the hotel. This time, while I had the guests walk slowly, I caught a taxi that was completing its payment on a side street about ten meters away from the pedestrian zone, told the driver to take them to their hotel, and saw the guests off there.
