    What's a Private Nagasaki Cruise Port Shore Excursion Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests stopped at Nagasaki on a cruise ship to celebrate a special milestone. Due to a typhoon, the tour was postponed by one day, but the weather was good, so we were able to visit nearly all of the planned sights. I had heard that one of the guests loved matcha, so I took the group to a favorite café near the port, and they were delighted. Knowing that this trip was in celebration of a special occasion, I had prepared a small letter set in advance as a congratulatory gift, and when I presented it at the end of the tour, the guests were very happy.

    What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a family visiting from North America. They were in Hakone after staying in Numazu to visit relatives. Since they had already ridden the ropeway the day before, I planned a route that avoided it. We first headed to Owakudani, and after an explanation of the area's history, they joined a guided walking tour of Owakudani, wearing helmets along the trail up to the hut where the black eggs are made. It was a rare experience that they enjoyed very much. Unfortunately, due to the weather, the whole of Mount Fuji was not visible, but just before the end only the summit peeked out, so their wish was more or less granted. After Gora Park, since the entire family loves gyoza, I took them to a food center for lunch, and finally we walked to the Hakone Open-Air Museum to end the tour.

    What's a Private Sapporo Walking and Shopping Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report At the guests' request, the tour started 30 minutes later so they could enjoy a relaxed breakfast in the morning. We took a leisurely stroll through Susukino. We then walked through the Tanukikoji shopping arcade, and along the way the guests purchased a kitchen knife at "Miyabun" and were delighted. At Nijo Market, the guests happily bought many souvenirs, such as scallops, for relatives and friends. We walked to Sapporo Factory and enjoyed some shopping. Since the guests wanted to eat tonkatsu, we took a taxi to a specialty tonkatsu restaurant on Odori for lunch. The guests were very pleased, saying that in North America they could never eat tonkatsu this tender and delicious. While eating, we had a lively conversation about the variety, deliciousness, safety of Japanese food, as well as health and obesity.

    Can You Do a Private Walking Tour of Yokohama Before a Cruise? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America, together with another group of relatives visiting from North America. It was everyone's first visit to Japan. The guests had arrived at Narita Airport the previous day and taken a taxi to their Hotel. The other group had arrived a week earlier, visiting Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka before coming to Yokohama the previous night. The main purpose of this visit was for everyone to board a cruise ship departing from Yokohama Port the day after next for a voyage around Japan. After returning to Yokohama Port, they planned to fly home. The guests were to join a food tour in Chinatown this evening, and planned to visit DisneySea the following day. Today, as a warm-up, their request was to "take a casual stroll around Yokohama and enjoy the atmosphere." It was a tour under cloudy skies but in hot and humid weather. First, in line with their wishes, we headed to Sankeien Garden. I explained about "the history of Yokohama," "the Meiji Restoration and the opening of Yokohama Port," and related topics. We strolled leisurely through the garden. We climbed the small hill with the three-story pagoda and took commemorative photos there as well. "Japanese gardens really are wonderful," they said. They spotted carp and turtles in the garden's pond and took photos. There was also a question: "Why do you keep carp and turtles?" After this, we returned to central Yokohama and first went to Sakuragicho Station. At the request of some of the guests, we went to the Yokohama Air Cabin. "We could really see what Yokohama Port looks like," they said. After this, we walked to the Red Brick Warehouse district and strolled leisurely inside. They bought some small items as souvenirs. We then walked further to Yokohama Cosmoworld, where everyone rode the Ferris wheel for a full loop. There were comments and questions such as, "The city is so clean and there's no litter on the streets. This level of cleanliness is unimaginable in North America," and "We don't see any homeless people. In North America, homelessness is a major problem." I saw them off to the entrance of their Hotel, and we parted ways.

    What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Covering Meiji Shrine, Asakusa, and Rikugien Garden The guests were a group visiting from North America, having arrived in Japan the day before. After Tokyo, they planned to travel to another country in Asia for a while, and then visit Kyoto, Osaka, and other destinations. Their overall trip lasted a little over two weeks, and it was everyone's first visit to Japan. I guided them to Meiji Shrine, the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, Asakusa, and Rikugien Garden. They listened attentively to my explanations and enjoyed each of the places. Since they wished to have ramen for lunch, we went to a ramen restaurant in Otemachi, and they told me it was delicious. Because we visited four locations that were somewhat far apart and involved a relatively long amount of walking, the tour ended about 15 minutes over the scheduled time. As one of the guests was interested in anime and wanted to visit Akihabara, at the end I explained at JR Komagome Station how to get to Akihabara and how to return to the hotel, and then we parted ways.

    Title: What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Daitoku-ji and Arashiyama The guests were visitors from North America. All of them asked many enthusiastic questions, and one of them in particular kept asking "Why?", which made the tour truly rewarding as a guide. Their questions gave me endless opportunities to expand on each topic. At Daisen-in, which has a Special Place of Scenic Beauty dry landscape garden and deep ties to the tea master Rikyu, we enjoyed matcha inside the temple while talking at length. It is truly an ideal place to discuss the concept of wabi-sabi. Although it was not originally planned, we also stopped by Hoshun-in, a sub-temple where you can see many bonsai trees ranging from 100 to 800 years old. All of these are located within the ancient Daitoku-ji temple complex. Despite being a treasure trove of history, Daitoku-ji does not usually receive many inbound visitors, and today it was especially quiet, so I believe the guests were able to fully enjoy its serene atmosphere. At one guest's request, we had gyoza for lunch, a favorite. On the way to Arashiyama, one of the guests showed me a photo of Arashiyama Daihikaku Senko-ji temple and expressed a wish to go to the exact spot where the photo had been taken and capture the same view. Since it appeared to have been taken from near the top of the Okochi-Sanso Garden, we went to the mountaintop observation deck at Kameyama Park, where nearly the same scenery can be seen. I believe we were able to take an almost identical photo without any admission fee. As time was running short, we quickly went through the bamboo grove and the Tenryu-ji Garden and returned to Gion. Since one of the guests had bought so many souvenirs that they needed a bag, we stopped by the famous Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu in Gion and quickly purchased a lovely tote bag. After the shopping was finished, we parted ways. They then headed to Sanjusangen-do, and later I received a message via a messaging app saying that Sanjusangen-do had been wonderful. Tomorrow they are going to Nara. Today, I was able to complete the tour smoothly thanks to the hired car driver, who kindly offered advice throughout the tour.     What Is a Private Tokyo Tour to Meiji Shrine and the Imperial Palace Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was fair, and the tour proceeded smoothly overall. We met at Haneda Airport, but I was delayed due to a train delay, and since the guests were not at the meeting point, it took some time to meet up. At Meiji Shrine, we talked about topics such as religion and the Meiji Restoration, and since the guests were very knowledgeable, our conversation was endless. As I had arranged for the guests to meet an old friend of theirs in Japan for a meal in the basement of the Palace Building, the guided portion at the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace became quite busy. After the guests enjoyed a pleasant chat with their old friend for a while, I saw them off to Haneda Airport, confirmed the collection of their luggage, and concluded the tour.

They had come to Japan only recently and had first visited Hiroshima. Since they had not yet visited shrines and temples in places such as Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nara, the basic explanations about Shinto and Buddhism at Miyajima seemed fresh to them, and they listened very attentively and asked many questions.     My name is Hiroshi Tsuji, a licensed guide based in Hiroshima and Miyajima. My family has been connected to Miyajima for more than 300 years, and I am pleased to share the history, culture, and daily life of this unique island with visitors from around the world. Please feel free to call me Hiroshi.
    With a background in outdoor sports—including rock climbing, scuba diving, and long-distance triathlons—I have completed several Ironman races abroad. I studied in Kyoto and later worked in management at a publicly listed company, which allowed me to live in many different regions of Japan and develop a deeper understanding of the country’s diverse culture and history.
    In Hiroshima, I guide guests through the Peace Memorial Park, including the Atomic Bomb Dome, and share perspectives on the history of Hiroshima and modern Japan.
    In Miyajima, I introduce Itsukushima Shrine, Mount Misen, the island’s beautiful scenery, and its local cuisine. As someone whose family has been connected to Miyajima for generations, I also enjoy sharing local insights and experiences that offer a more personal connection to the island’s culture and way of life.

    What Is an 8-Hour Private Kyoto Tour from Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests visited Japan from Oceania. As it turned out, covering five locations within Kyoto City in the 8 hours starting from Osaka was not feasible time-wise. I should have explained this thoroughly in advance and narrowed it down to four locations so that we could finish within the 8 hours. As a result, the tour ran nearly an hour over. Usually the guests will ask something like, "The time has passed already, is that okay?" but this time the guests did not seem to mind at all. Throughout the tour, however, everyone listened well to my explanations and walked willingly despite the heat. The younger members of the group also responded well, so from a guide's perspective they were easy guests to work with. The photo was taken at Kinkaku-ji Temple.
