    Title: What Can You See on a Private Day Tour from Fukuoka Cruise Terminal? A Licensed Guide's Report I met the guests at 9:00 at the Fukuoka Cruise Center. We first went to Nanzoin Temple. One of the guests was wearing shorts and would have needed to buy a 500-yen cover, so they chose not to enter. They were greatly impressed by the reclining Buddha statue. Since they said they wanted to see Onitsuka Tiger shoes, we went to Canal City. They bought a pair of Onitsuka Tiger shoes and had ramen at a ramen restaurant. We visited Tocho-ji Temple to see the Buddhist statues, went to Kushida Shrine, viewed Hakata-ori textiles at a traditional townhouse, and then returned to the port. The guests were also collecting goshuin stamps and seemed genuinely interested in temples and shrines, so they were very satisfied.

    The guests lost their JR Pass, which meant they could not catch the train they had planned to take, so the tour started about one hour late. I suggested that we have lunch early since restaurants tend to get crowded, but the guests requested that we skip lunch in order to make up for the lost hour, and I accommodated their wish. However, since going without lunch left them looking tired toward the end, we took about 30 minutes at the end to enjoy something sweet together. I was glad to see them recover their energy. The guests very much enjoyed shopping and seemed to have already decided what they wanted to buy, such as lacquered chopsticks and folk craft items, which made them very easy to guide. It was raining and cold, so it may have been a little tough at times, but they were very much looking forward to the kaiseki cuisine at their hotel.

    What Is a Private Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of close friends visiting from Oceania. Since it was a fairly large group, I made an effort to speak with everyone equally, though it was somewhat challenging to build rapport evenly with each person. As they mentioned they would be cycling along the Shimanami Kaido the following day, I guided them by connecting the relationship between Hiroshima and the maritime industry with Hiroshima's geographic conditions, and explained the wartime demand industries and its role as a military city. At the Children's Peace Monument, while I explained the life of Sadako using my own visual materials, many of the guests took photos of them, so I feel I was able to convey the importance of peace. Everyone finished with a smile, so I was able to carry out the tour while enjoying it myself.

    Can You See Both Sendai and Matsushima in One Day?     Hello. My name is Kohmin Iwabuchi, but please call me KOH for short. I have been working as a tour guide for more than 10 years. So far, I have visited hundreds of scenic spots, but there is one place I will not go. Guess what is it? That’s the top of Mt. Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan. I can climb the mountain, but it’s hard for me to guide people while climbing.

    I am interested in traditional sports in Japan, particularly sumo wrestling. Sumo is time honored sports. We can trace its origin back to some thousand years ago. First it was played as an entertainment in a Shinto shrine. The rule of sumo is simple. The match is played by two participants in a ring. If any parts of the body of one of the participants except the sole touches the ground or he was pushed out of the ring, he will be defeated.

    The appearance of sumo wrestlers is very traditional, because their samurai like hairstyle “chonmage” originates from feudal ages.

    Unlike boxing and wrestling, there are no weight restrictions or classes, meaning that your opponent can be many times your own size. As a result, weight gain is an essential part of sumo training. Personally my weight is about 200 pounds which enables me to be a sumo wrestler.

    Sumo wrestlers live in a sumo stable. It’s the place where they eat, drink, train and sleep together. In greater Tokyo area, there are about 40 sumo stables, many of which are located in Ryogoku area. A small number of stables welcome people to come and see the morning practice. I hope some day I can visit there with you.

    Title: What Is a Private Miyajima and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. Before coming to Hiroshima, they had experienced the Nakasendo Trail and had a deep understanding of Shugendo mountain asceticism. Because of this, on Miyajima Island I focused my guiding on the very concept of the shrine itself — why a shrine was built in the sea and why its presence is significant. At the Peace Memorial Museum, at the guests' request, I centered the talk on the human impact of radiation exposure, including the life of Sadako Sasaki and microcephaly caused by the atomic bomb. Differing from the prior study they had done before arriving in Hiroshima, the guests reflected on the values shared by someone who has lived in Hiroshima for over twenty years, saying, "Peace means the world being wrapped in harmony." It seemed they were able to take away something they could do for the future in light of a tragic past, and that made me happy as well.

    Title: What Is a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Tsukiji, and Ueno We met on time in the lobby. Since it was only very lightly raining at first, we decided to proceed as planned with a walk from the front of the Imperial Palace toward Sakuradamon Gate. When I mentioned that the East Gardens were unfortunately closed today, the guests said they had already strolled there after arriving. While talking about the Tatsumi Yagura turret, the stone walls of the moat, the black pines, and the Great Fire of Meireki, we reached the front of Sakashitamon Gate, where a procession practicing with horse-drawn carriages happened to pass by, which led to a conversation about the ceremony for the presentation of credentials; the topics and related questions were endless as we strolled to Nijubashi Bridge and Sakuradamon Gate. As it began to rain, I suggested taking the subway from Hibiya Station to Tsukiji, but looking at Google Maps, the guests asked whether it was walkable, and when I said it was about 30–40 minutes away, we decided to walk. The guests loved walking, so we made our way on foot to Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple while talking about the Hibiya Inlet, the Ginza Kinza mint, and kabuki. Speaking of temples, the guests mentioned that they would visit a Zen temple in the Kansai region later, so I asked where, and they said Koyasan; since that is not a Zen sect, I took the opportunity to give a very brief explanation of the various Buddhist sects. The area outside Tsukiji was very crowded with people in raincoats and holding umbrellas due to the rain, so we walked along a relatively empty street and through the outer market to visit Namiyoke Shrine. Since sushi was planned for tonight, I looked for a tempura restaurant, but every tempura shop had a line at lunchtime, and the guests said that sushi is good to eat any number of times, so we had a sushi lunch at Tsukiji Nihonkai. As the rain did not stop, we decided to go to the Tokyo National Museum in the afternoon and moved to Ueno. The guests were surprised to see the art museums and museums lined up together. Inside the Tokyo National Museum, they looked at the exhibits with great interest. Since I am a certified sake sommelier, the guests had expressed a longstanding wish to end the tour with a sake tasting, so we moved to the Japan Sake Information Center in Toranomon. We ordered the standard set of five varieties, and they enjoyed comparing them with wine and more. They planned to walk back to the Hotel from there, but since they loved walking and I had seen them skillfully using Google Maps, I was able to part ways with peace of mind.

    If you are interested in hidden gem, here are some examples;

    Kawasaki, located between Tokyo and Yokohama near Haneda Airport, is the second station of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido, the 400 years old highway towards Kyoto from Edo (old name of Tokyo). You can do Hand-cut glass experiment, stopping at a bar for sake tasting, visiting Kawasaki-Daishi temple that receives 3 million worshippers in the new year period.

    Another spot is Echigo-Yuzawa in Niigata prefecture, 75 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen train. Echigo-Yuzawa is “Onsen” (hot springs) town. You can enjoy visiting Sake brewery, skiing in winter, veiwing Sakura (cherry blossom) in spring. Appreciation of contemporary art displays in open air and old carvings at temples, in neighboring towns will be also memorable experience.

    What Is a Private Guided Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Before Hiroshima, they had visited Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, and Osaka, so they already had some basic knowledge about Japanese shrines, history, and culture. On Miyajima, when I explained the differences between Shinto and Buddhism, the group showed interest, remarking that it was unique how various religions are followed almost unconsciously. At the Peace Memorial Park, I explained that some of the guests were around the same age as the students who were mobilized during the war, and I emphasized the importance of passing on the message of peace to the next generation. One of the guests shared their impression, saying it had been a deeply moving tour and thanking me for adjusting the timing. I was glad the tour was completed successfully.

    What's a Private Afternoon Tour of Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle and Shitennoji Temple The guests were a group visiting from North America. When I arrived at the hotel lobby, I received a message from the guests. They had traveled from Kyoto and were having a meal near Higashi-Shinsaibashi at that time. We spoke by phone and arranged to meet at Shinsaibashi subway station, where I was able to pick them up at 13:30. We had originally planned to go to Dotonbori first, but since the start was delayed by 30 minutes, the guests decided to visit Dotonbori on their own after the tour. We skipped Dotonbori and visited Osaka Castle instead. The guests wanted to learn about history and culture, so I introduced topics such as how there had been a palace in Osaka before Nara became the capital, the Toyotomi-Tokugawa battle at Osaka Castle, and how the factories were attacked during the Pacific War but the main keep miraculously survived. At Shitennoji Temple, I explained how groups supporting and opposing Buddhism competed, and how Prince Shotoku built Shitennoji Temple to celebrate the eventual victory of the pro-Buddhist side. I believe the guests understood this well. The guests sent me a message of gratitude, so I took a photo of it and attached it.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Daikanyama The guests were visitors from Europe who had arrived in Japan the day before. After Tokyo, they planned to visit Hakone, Kyoto, and other destinations, for a total stay of about eight days in Japan. One of the guests was visiting Japan for the first time, while another had visited once a long time ago but did not remember it very clearly. The itinerary had been communicated by a local travel agency, and the plan was to see Meiji Shrine and Shibuya and finish at Daikanyama. Since there was some extra time, we also visited Takeshita Street in Harajuku. The rain was fairly heavy in the morning, but fortunately it eased to a light drizzle around the time we arrived at Meiji Shrine. The guests enjoyed each location while listening to explanations and taking photographs. As there was time to spare at Meiji Shrine, we also visited the inner garden, where the Japanese irises had just begun to bloom. Because the guests walked at a brisk pace, we arrived at Daikanyama a little earlier than scheduled. Although it was before the planned end time, we received their consent to conclude the tour, and we parted ways.

    Title: What's a Rainy-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) arranged this private tour of Tokyo for the group. The group had arrived at Kansai Airport some days earlier via connecting flights, then traveled through Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara before taking the Shinkansen to Tokyo the previous day. They planned to stay in Tokyo before flying home. The day before, they had strolled around the area near their hotel. Conversation within the group was in their native language. They mentioned that while a second foreign language used to be French in their home country, English is now the main one. It was a tour spent under the rain. We first headed to Asakusa. Despite the rain, it was quite crowded. Starting from in front of Kaminarimon Gate, I explained "Senso-ji Temple and the history from Edo to Tokyo," "What the five-story pagoda is for," "What Buddhism is," and "The difference between Buddhism and Shinto." We took commemorative photos at Kaminarimon and various spots, and slowly strolled through the packed Nakamise shopping street. The guests asked questions such as "What are the major religions in Japan?", "How many Buddhists are there in Japan?", and "Besides Buddhism, what other religions do people follow?" They also asked, "We see people in kimono around the temple grounds — why is that?" We moved to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. There I explained "Japanese history from Edo to Meiji," "The Meiji Restoration," "Why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace," "The history of the Imperial family," "World War II and the Tokyo air raids," and "How the stone walls were built." The guests asked and commented on things like "Does the current Emperor of Japan hold political power?", "Who is the next Emperor?", and "Can a woman become Emperor?" They remarked, "The pine trees are magnificent." We also visited Nijubashi Bridge. We then moved to Harajuku. Meiji Shrine was full of tourists. There I explained "About Shinto," "About the torii gate," "About Emperor Meiji," "Why the sake barrels are displayed," and "Why the wine barrels are displayed." The guests asked "What kind of religion is Shinto?", "How do Buddhism and Shinto differ?", and "What is an Inari shrine?" On the shrine grounds we encountered a family doing their Shichi-Go-San visit and took photos. We took a break at Forest Terrace Meiji Jingu. We moved to Shibuya. Looking out from Scramble Square, the guests asked "About how many people cross at once?" and "Why did it become so famous?" We also took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. The guests commented and asked things like "The city is so clean, with no litter on the ground," "There are no trash cans on the streets — why is that?", and "Everyone is so quiet on the train." I saw them off at Takanawa Gateway Station, where we parted ways.

    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
