    What Is a Private Nagoya Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nagoya Castle, Tokugawa Garden, and the Tokugawa Art Museum Although the tour took place during a nationwide cold wave, the weather in Nagoya was reasonably good, and the guests were able to enjoy each of the sites we visited. The guests were a group visiting from Europe, and some of them were interested in Japanese history from the Edo period and earlier in connection with Nagoya Castle, so I made a point of giving careful explanations in response to their questions as I guided them. Particularly well received were the winter peony event held at Tokugawa Garden, where they could admire 70 pots of magnificent peonies, and the Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) display at the Tokugawa Art Museum. I also believe they appreciated being able to relax with plenty of time set aside for lunch and a coffee break.

After sightseeing in Tokyo, they planned to travel onward to another destination in Asia. At Meiji Shrine, they listened with great interest to the explanation of the difference between shrines and temples, and seemed impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere. In Shibuya, they visited the Pokémon Center and purchased souvenirs there.     • At the outer market, I introduced Japanese food culture, dashi broth, wagyu beef, wasabi, tea, sashimi, miso, etc. They purchased wagyu beef steak, tuna sashimi, sweet potato fries, tea, strawberries, etc.
    • 12:00 By taxi to Tokyo Tower. Visited the Main Deck and Top Deck. They were impressed by the scaffolders, the old Panasonic and National signs, and other aspects of good old Tokyo. The guests held the view that when it comes to Tokyo, it's not Skytree but Tokyo Tower.
    • 14:00 As they wished to try Japanese Italian food, carbonara, we had lunch at my favorite restaurant in Hamamatsucho, Italian Miami. The three of us shared the meal. They praised the precision of Japanese work. We talked about Swiss culture and the environment that gives rise to Rolex.

We exchanged a five-yen coin and I wished the guests happiness. We talked with one another about how language and ethnicity are connected, and how important it is to cherish them. As some of the guests worked in a field related to dental care, they taught me about the importance of teeth.     What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour of Nezu, Yanaka, and Shibamata Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests requested to visit historical and traditional places that were not crowded with tourists, so I focused the tour on Nezu, Yanaka, and Shibamata. They were very pleased, saying that these were exactly the kinds of places they had wanted to visit. For lunch, they mentioned they would like either ramen or soba/udon, so I took them to a popular udon restaurant in Sendagi, which they also enjoyed. At Daikyoji Temple (Shibamata Taishakuten) in Shibamata, I guided them through the sculpture gallery and the garden, and they were very moved as they viewed them. For Japanese gardens, the nearby Yamamoto-tei is also popular, but since Daikyoji allows you to see both the sculpture gallery and the garden together, I personally recommend Daikyoji.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Osaka Tour Like for a Solo Traveler? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest had just arrived in Osaka from Tokyo the previous night, and this was their first day of sightseeing. The guest was a calm and thoughtful person who seemed interested in Japanese history, and was enjoying a vacation before starting a new phase in life. Since the guest was traveling alone, I took several photos including the scenery, which they were very pleased with. Meals were a challenge, as the guest could not eat gluten, shrimp, or shellfish, so we had gluten-free okonomiyaki at Chibo in Dotonbori. Recently I have had many guests who require gluten-free meals, so I ordered the same gluten-free dish and tried it myself. When I asked what dashi was used, I was told that no dashi was added, and while the batter was light, I felt it lacked some depth of flavor. Still, the guest said it was delicious and enjoyed the taste of Osaka. I usually take guests to Shitennoji Temple, but the guest wished to visit Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, so I went there for the first time in a while. For this guest, about to start a new chapter, visiting Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine seemed like a good omen, and I was glad we went. On the way back, we returned to Tennoji Station by streetcar while enjoying the cityscape. The guest planned to use a JR Pass to have a meal near Osaka Station before returning to the hotel, so I looked up the platform number for the return trip and sent information about a gluten-free restaurant near Osaka Station to their smartphone.

    Private Full-Day Tour in Tokyo for Overseas Guests: What Does a Licensed Guide Show Beyond the Usual Sights? The guests were visitors from North America, both visiting Japan for the first time. The tour booking was originally confirmed under the name of a travel agency based in Europe, but the person who made this booking was the owner of that travel agency. The guests were in the middle of a roughly one-month trip through various parts of Asia that had begun in North America, when their original travel agent suddenly cancelled the contract midway through the trip. After the cancellation, the contract with the guests was taken over by the travel agency in Europe, and the guide request was then passed on to [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) from there, which is how this assignment came about. The guests had arrived at Narita Airport from Asia in late January. After visiting Kyoto, they returned to Tokyo. They had already spent two days exploring the city and were scheduled to fly home from Narita Airport the following evening. They asked to be shown places they had not yet visited. The destinations originally requested at the time of confirmation had already been covered, so before their departure we carefully discussed today's destinations. Both of the guests love Japanese food. They expressed a wish to "try Japanese dishes we haven't had yet" and to "buy souvenirs for relatives." It was a very cold and cloudy day for the tour. First, we headed to Tsukiji. After walking around the Tsukiji Uogashi, we moved on to the Tsukiji Outer Market and slowly made a full loop through the area. I explained "the history of the fish market since the Edo period" and "the differences between Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market." We looked around various shops and sampled "tuna sushi" and "snow crab." They also bought "wasabi-flavored beans" and a "Tsukiji T-shirt" as souvenirs. They asked, "Why are there so many people here?" Next, we went to the Kappabashi Kitchenware Street in Asakusa. They said, "We came here in the evening yesterday too, but almost all the shops were closed and we couldn't shop." We took a leisurely stroll through the street. Having been asked by a friend, they bought a "tabletop salt and pepper set" and "chopsticks." We then moved to Asakusa. Since they said, "We've seen temples and shrines all over the place," they only strolled through the Nakamise shopping street. I gave a general explanation of "the history of Sensoji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo," "what a five-story pagoda is," and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." There were questions such as "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?" and "What kind of teaching is Buddhism?" As souvenirs, they bought "yuzu pepper," a "tenugui hand towel," "ningyo-yaki," and "rice crackers." Again there was the question, "Why are there so many people here?" We moved to Nippori. They commented, "Shopping streets like this, with their nostalgic atmosphere, are wonderful." Since one of the guests said they love cats, they took photos here and there. We then went to Ginza. As they wanted to eat yakitori, we visited a well-known yakitori restaurant in Ginza. The restaurant was full. They said, "Everything you eat in Japan is delicious." We strolled through Ginza and, at a department store in Ginza, they bought "Baumkuchen," "ichimi and shichimi chili peppers," "inari sushi," and a "katsu sandwich" (which they planned to take back to the hotel to eat). They also searched for a vintage bourbon whiskey but gave up as they couldn't find the particular vintage they were after. From here, we moved to Shimokitazawa. Browsing the shopping streets and vintage clothing stores, they commented, "We also went to Kichijoji, but we love this kind of calm atmosphere." They also made comments such as, "All Japanese people are polite," "The city is clean and there's no litter scattered around," "Why aren't there any trash cans?", "The subway is very well made, though it's hard to understand until you get used to it. Inside it's clean and quiet, unlike New York," and "The public restrooms are clean and pleasant."

    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

    What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Ginkaku-ji The guests visited Japan from North America. Just before arriving at the hotel, I received a message with a request: since they would be joining another tour in the Gion area in the evening, they wanted to go somewhere else instead. After discussing options, we decided to visit Ginkaku-ji (the Silver Pavilion). Deciding on lunch took some time due to their food preferences. We went into a restaurant along the approach to Ginkaku-ji and ordered rice bowls. One had an oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl), and the other ordered a tempura rice bowl without vegetables. I was relieved when the restaurant staff said they could prepare it without vegetables. Although it was a very cold day with a high of only 5 degrees, fortunately there was not much wind, so it did not feel as cold as expected. I noticed that the bamboo fence in the inner part of the Ginkaku-ji garden was quite worn, which did not look very attractive. I wondered when it would be repaired.     What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari, and Kinkaku-ji The guests were a group visiting from North America. They had mistakenly thought the meeting time was 9:30, so the tour started at 9:30. After confirming today's itinerary at the hotel, we decided on Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari Taisha, Kinkaku-ji, and Ryoan-ji. After guiding them leisurely around Kiyomizu-dera, we took a bus to Kyoto Station and then transferred to the JR line to reach Fushimi Inari Taisha. At the shrine, I explained about Shinto, we worshipped together at the main hall, and they enjoyed the power spots while passing through the thousands of torii gates. From Fushimi Inari Taisha, we again went via Kyoto Station and took a bus from Enmachi to Kinkaku-ji, where snow began to fall lightly and they were very delighted by the magnificent atmosphere. After Kinkaku-ji, although the timing was slightly off, we had lunch at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, and then walked to Ryoan-ji. At Ryoan-ji, I explained about Zen and the rock garden, sharing the teachings of Zen, and then we took the Randen tram to Shijo-Omiya. However, by that point it was 5:00 p.m., and the guests requested to return to the hotel by taxi, so we parted ways there. The guests gradually became more comfortable with my guiding, and I believe they enjoyed today's sightseeing.

    Title: What Is a Private Guided Tour of Fukushima's Disaster Memorial Sites Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from the Middle East. They came not for sightseeing but to film a documentary. At the TEPCO Decommissioning Archive Center, video recording was not permitted and the content was quite technical, so they did not show much interest. At Ukedo Elementary School, they were shocked by the immense scale of the tsunami damage, but seemed relieved to learn that the schoolchildren had been saved. A local resident of Namie Town was interviewed and asked about the situation at the time. At the Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum, they interviewed a survivor who now serves as a storyteller, and seemed to find it meaningful to learn about the magnitude of the disaster. I was also filmed for an interview, which caught me off guard, but seeing Fukushima 14 years after the disaster, I sensed that they were trying to learn something from those who had experienced it.
