Title: What's a Full-Day Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nijo Castle, Fushimi Inari, and Kiyomizu-dera

The guests were visitors from North America who had been volunteering with an NGO in Hiroshima for about six months. As they mentioned they were not very familiar with Japanese history and culture, I introduced the background and meaning of each site as we went along throughout the tour.

On the day, I met them in the hotel lobby at 10:00 a.m., and after greetings we discussed the day's itinerary and their wishes.

The first place we visited was Nijo Castle, where I guided them mainly around the Higashi Otemon Gate, Karamon Gate, Ninomaru Palace, and the Japanese garden. I carefully explained the history from the establishment of the Tokugawa Shogunate, through the social structure of the Edo period, to the Meiji Restoration. The cherry blossoms had just begun to bloom, and the cherry trees within Nijo Castle were very beautiful, which moved the guests greatly.

Next, we visited Fushimi Inari Taisha, where I guided them through the Senbon Torii and the Omokaru-ishi stones. I also introduced Japan's shrine culture and the etiquette for worship.

After that, we moved toward the Shijo area and visited Gion's Tatsumi Bridge, Hanamikoji Street, Yasui Konpiragu, Hokanji Temple (Yasaka Pagoda), the Koshin-do, Sannenzaka, and Kiyomizu-dera. Along the way, I shared stories about the cultural and urban differences between Kyoto and Hiroshima, and offered advice regarding their planned sightseeing in Nara for the following days.

The weather was fine, the temperature was mild, and the cherry blossoms were at their peak, making it a perfect day for sightseeing. We took the tour at a comfortable pace, pausing several times for hydration and short breaks.

After the tour, we parted ways at Kiyomizu-dera, promising to meet again.

Outside of work, I value time with my family. I have a wonderful wife and two daughters. One of them is currently studying international relations at a university in Tokyo, while the other is a high school student here in Kyoto.
