    What Is a 4-Hour Private Family Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America, and I had underestimated the mobility needs involved. In conclusion, since the group was using two strollers, I needed to be considerate about movement, including within train stations. As a result, the designated four hours arrived when we had completed only half of the planned itinerary, and since the group wished to have a light meal at a restaurant inside the park, we parted ways at Shinjuku Gyoen. I received a request to extend the guiding time, but as I had another commitment, I wrote down notes on the route for the remaining itinerary and shared them with the group.

    Who am I?
    I am a Licensed Guide Interpreter at an age of 61.
    I got an early retirement from 36 yrs of the employment in a Japanese financial sector.
    I hope I can attend to you with the Japanese politeness, hospitality and smile.

    What can I be expected?
    I would like to introduce the photogenic sites, the indigenous experiences
    and good Japanese local food around Tokyo, Hakone/Mt Fuji.
    I might be able to show you the features of shrine and temple with a religious manner if you’d like.
    As a matter of fact, I don’t have a specific religion to believe, though.
    I love Japan and that’s why I started a new career as a guide.

    What do I love?
    Most of all, my family. I have a wife 56 yrs old, a son 28 yrs old and a daughter 25 yrs old.
    I like eating raw fish and sushi, buckwheat noodles and curry rice.

    How do I spend my spear time?
    I run for 5 km in the morning listening to my favorite music.
    I might have a chance to go to a studio program in the fitness club nearby once a week.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama, and Kinkaku-ji The guests were a group visiting from North America. They had arrived in Kyoto the previous evening via Tokyo, and this was their first trip to both Japan and Kyoto. During the tour, I took them to Fushimi Inari, the Monkey Park, Arashiyama (the Togetsukyo Bridge, the Tenryu-ji garden, and the bamboo grove), and finally Kinkaku-ji. As they were still suffering from jet lag, it turned out to be quite a demanding tour, and the guests seemed rather tired. Since the itinerary included a climb up to the Monkey Park in the rain, it may have been particularly tough. Some of the guests especially enjoyed Fushimi Inari, while others were fond of the Monkey Park, though with the comment that it would have been better without the climb. Even though the itinerary had been requested by the guests themselves, I felt a little sorry that it was somewhat too demanding.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Akihabara, Harajuku, and Shibuya The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Asia. They were staying in Japan for ten days. In Tokyo, in addition to a day trip to Mount Fuji, they planned to visit Disneyland, then travel to Kyoto and Osaka, and depart from Kansai International Airport. They had arrived at Narita Airport the previous day and taken the train to their accommodation, a bed and breakfast. The night before, they enjoyed yakiniku nearby. They told me that, despite the short stay, they wanted to enjoy as many places and as much Japanese food as possible before returning home. The tour took place in colder-than-usual weather, with chilly winds and rain. We first went to nearby Asakusa. I explained the history of Senso-ji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo, what a five-story pagoda is, and the difference between Buddhism and Shinto. The guests asked questions such as "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?", "What kind of teachings does Buddhism have?", "How do Shinto and Buddhism differ?", and "Are there any Catholic believers in Japan?" The Nakamise shopping street was as crowded as ever. The guests bought and sampled strawberry candy. We moved on to Akihabara. In the light rain, we visited Bic Camera and Don Quijote. The guests bought Pokemon goods and a large amount of snacks and packed them into their suitcases, telling me they were souvenirs to hand out to neighbors after returning home. We then moved to Harajuku, first visiting Meiji Shrine. I explained what Shinto is, the difference between Buddhism and Shinto, and the history of Edo and the Meiji Restoration. The guests remarked, "It's wonderful to have such a green park in the center of the city," and we strolled briskly through the grounds. We also walked along Takeshita Street. We moved to Shibuya, where I explained the history of the area. We walked across the Shibuya Scramble Crossing and took commemorative photos in front of the Hachiko statue. As everyone loved ramen, we had a late lunch at a ramen shop. It seemed they all preferred tonkotsu ramen. They mentioned that ramen is also very popular where they come from. The guests also commented, "Japanese people are all so polite," "Why are there no trash cans?", "The public restrooms in Japan are clean and pleasant," and "We don't see any homeless people." I saw the guests off at Oshiage Station, ending the tour.

    Self-introduction:
    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

    What Is a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report from Odawara to Owakudani The guests visited Japan from North America. They arrived in Odawara from Tokyo by Shinkansen. Since they had brought a suitcase and a backpack, I introduced them to the luggage carry service at Hakone-Yumoto Station, which they used. This is a service that delivers luggage to the hotel, so it is very convenient. Traveling light, we took a bus from Hakone-Yumoto Station to Motohakone Port. The ride along the winding road took about 40 minutes. As it began to rain, we bought umbrellas at a Seven-Eleven near the stop where we got off. Before starting our sightseeing, we went to a soba restaurant, where they ordered katsudon and tendon. They ate neatly using chopsticks. We visited Hakone Shrine to pray, and they purchased two omamori charms. Afterward, we headed to the lakeside torii gate, but there was a long line, so we returned to the port without waiting. We boarded the pirate ship and, via Togendai, arrived at Owakudani. Although it was drizzling lightly, the steaming ground was clearly visible, which was fortunate. It was their first time seeing volcanic activity, and they found it very interesting and fascinating. Upon reaching Gora, I arranged a pickup car and we parted ways. Despite the unfortunate weather, I was relieved that they enjoyed Hakone.

They came to enjoy a reunion and some sightseeing while in Japan. It rained for almost the entire day, but it never fell heavily, and the guests enjoyed each destination in their own way. In particular, I feel they gained a good appreciation for the distinct charms of each place — the solemn atmosphere of Sanjusangendo, the lavish appearance of Kinkaku-ji, and the historical background of Nijo Castle. When we finally visited Gion, some of the guests wished to take a break at a café, so they were very pleased to be able to spend uninterrupted time together right up until their departure train time.

    Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Tour Like When the Itinerary Changes on the Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. Although I had sent several emails beforehand and received no reply, which was a source of concern, about one week before the tour the travel agency that had booked the tour provided me with the guests' phone number and their requested destinations. I asked for the guests' email address but received no response, so on the day before the tour I contacted them at their hotel by fax to confirm our meeting. Before the tour began, it turned out that the destinations I had been instructed to visit were not what the guests actually wanted, so we discussed and rebuilt the itinerary together. In the end, I was relieved to receive a review saying that it had become a tour the guests thoroughly enjoyed.

    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Tour of West Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe who planned to stay in Japan for an extended period. Their time in Tokyo was part of a longer trip. On the day, in addition to carrying out the planned itinerary, they requested help learning about Tokyo so they could explore on their own, as well as support in booking accommodation for their stay in a rural region. We mainly visited major sightseeing spots on the west side of the city, and I offered advice at Pepper Parlor, an AI robot café in Shibuya.     What's a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Hamarikyu, Tsukiji, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya This was my first time guiding guests from Europe. Until now I had mostly guided guests from North America, and the atmosphere was quite different. The guests were very receptive and flexible in their thinking, and did not seem to take things too seriously. Above all, they were relaxed and enjoying themselves. At Hamarikyu Gardens, they enjoyed matcha and sweets at the tea house. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, they ate the finest grilled wagyu skewers (3,000 yen each), and afterward at a sushi restaurant one of the guests ordered the top-grade sushi lunch (over 5,000 yen) and was delighted. After that, there was a considerable amount of walking through Meiji Shrine and Harajuku, but the guests did not seem particularly tired and kept up well. Finally, they wanted to see the Shibuya crossing, so I accompanied them to Shibuya, where the tour ended. Afterward, they sent me several photos, and it seemed they were very satisfied.

    Title: What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Gion, and Sanjusangendo The guests were a group visiting from Europe. It was the first visit to Japan for part of the group, while another had visited Japan many times before for work. One of the guests already had a SUICA card, but the other did not, so their transportation fares were paid each time. The requested destinations were Fushimi Inari Taisha, Gion, and Sanjusangendo. Since the rain had been falling persistently since morning, we decided to start with the mostly indoor Sanjusangendo. One of the guests had visited before but chose it again out of a wish to see it once more. Both took their time carefully admiring the Buddhist statues. As the rain had eased a little, we next headed to Fushimi Inari Taisha. The area near the large torii gate at the entrance was quite crowded, but the entrance to the Senbon Torii was not so busy, so I was able to take a photo of the guests together at the torii. Only one of the guests tried the Omokaru Ishi (the "lifting stone"). By the time we arrived in Gion the rain had almost stopped, but during our stroll through Gion the weather went back and forth between rain and clear spells. The plum blossoms blooming along the Shirakawa were beautiful. After walking through Gion, the plan had been to take a bus and see the guests off to their Hotel, but they said they knew the way back and that there was no need to accompany them all the way to the Hotel, so we parted ways there.

    Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku and Shibuya The guests were visitors from North America who had arrived in Japan two days earlier and remarked how glad they were that it had finally warmed up, joking that it was still cooler than back home. I guided them through the Tsukiji Market, where they looked at every shop and said, "This is fun, interesting, I've never seen anything like it," yet they didn't eat anything at all. When I asked, they laughed and explained that they don't eat fish and just wanted to see the market. At the plaza in front of the Imperial Palace, I explained the difference between the Emperor and the Shogun, as well as the difference between the Old Testament and the Kojiki, which they found very interesting. On Takeshita Street they enjoyed the lively atmosphere, and upon seeing a miniature pig and a weasel cafe they exclaimed, "Oh, my God!" At Meiji Shrine and over lunch they were delighted to try Japanese beer, saying, "This is what I wanted to drink." While I was guiding them at the camphor trees, a wedding procession passed by, and they called it beautiful. I then guided them to the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, and at their request I escorted them all the way to Shinjuku, where the tour concluded.

    My name is Shuji, meaning “Excellent Manager” in English. I was born in Hiroshima 1952. I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
    After graduating Kyoto Univ. I joined Mitsubishi-UFJ Bank, Osaka Branch where I met my wife who was a master of Englsih, so I started studying English.
    The bank allowed me to go to Columbia Graduate business school in New York and got MBA Degree there. I worked in London and Manchester Branch.
    During staying in U.K., I was introduced by BBC and Financial Times News Paper about my achievement there. I was selected as a personal assistant and interpreter for the President of the Bank.
    I made many business trips with him to overseas countries. I experienced as an interpreter for meeting late Henry Kissinger and the President of Citi. Corp.
    I changed the job to ORIX corporation, there I was promoted to a Board Member. When the company had acquired Dutch company, I was a member as an accountant to check the Dutch company’s statements of accounts.
    My hobbies are cooking, singing a song, playing tennis & golf, enjoy seeing arts especially opera & musical, travel. I am also busy with taking care of grandchildren. I passed Government Licensed Guide Exam. in 2016. After I retired in 2017, I started guide job as a part timer. So far, I accomplished guide job more than 500 times.
    My area coverage is from Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji to Kyoto, Nara, Oaka, Hiroshima. I am also able to guide Tea Ceremony, Maiko/Geisha, Sushi Making, Calligraphy, Sumo, Samurai, etc. I can speak excellent English. My knowledge is very wide and deep about not only sightseeing places but Japanese History, Culture, Religion, Daily Life. I know many foreign countries and people. I love talking with all kinds of people including babies with interesting humor.
