    What's a Private Day Tour of Nagoya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Atsuta Shrine and Nagoya Castle The guests were a group visiting from Europe. Because we met 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, we changed the start time from 10:00 to 9:30. At Atsuta Shrine, the guests were moved by the sacred atmosphere and, since there is no admission fee, asked how the maintenance costs were covered. For lunch, they had a mini seafood rice bowl and chimaki at the kishimen restaurant located within Atsuta Shrine. Since I had confirmed the menu in advance, they were able to order and eat smoothly. At the Honmaru Palace of Nagoya Castle, the final stop, they enthusiastically took photos and were very satisfied. As they planned to make a port call in Kobe the next day and sightsee without a guide, they seemed mainly anxious about getting around. I answered their questions as best I could, and I felt that it would be helpful to ask about any travel-related concerns in advance and provide answers, even if they are not directly related to the tour itself.

    Title: What's a Day Trip from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Miyajima and the Peace Park The guests came from Asia and took a day trip from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima. They were curious about everything, saying that they had enjoyed takoyaki in Osaka, and they seemed to love Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki as well. At lunch they also enjoyed Kamotsuru sake. One of the guests tried oysters for the very first time in their life. I think it became a wonderful memory for them. One of the guests enjoyed photography as a hobby and had fun taking pictures here and there on Miyajima. I heard that the first camera they ever bought was Japanese-made, purchased for the equivalent of two months' salary. They had continued to favor Japanese cameras and film for a long time afterward, though these days they were using the camera on an iPhone. The guests were involved in the medical field, and our conversation covered many topics, including Japan's education system, social insurance, and long-term care insurance. One point of reflection is that we spent too much time on Miyajima, which left less time for the Peace Memorial Park and the museum. Based on my past experience, I had planned about 45 minutes for the museum visit, but one of the guests told me, "That was nowhere near enough time." I had gathered information that many people from that region have a strong interest in the atomic bomb and nuclear issues, and that proved to be true. However, since the museum entry was during a reserved time slot, it was not crowded, and the guests were able to read the English explanations slowly and up close, which was a good thing. One of the guests was not in good condition with their knee, so I made sure to avoid going up and down stairs as much as possible. Among the JR stations, Nishi-Hiroshima Station has an escalator, so I would recommend it as a transfer station for guests in such situations.

    What Can You See on a One-Day Private Kyoto Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests sent frequent requests via a messaging app before their trip. I created an itinerary centered on what they wanted to see, and they also added a two-hour extension, so in the end they were very pleased that we were able to visit many places in a single day. To get from Fushimi Inari to Kiyomizu-dera, going by bus via JR Kyoto Station involves less walking and is usually better, but the bus stop in front of Kyoto Station was extremely crowded in the morning, so to avoid it we took the Keihan line to Kiyomizu-Gojo and walked from there. As the guests, coming from a hot region in Asia, were not used to walking much, this seemed tiring for them, so I slowed the pace and we walked leisurely. At the guests' request, we skipped Yasaka Shrine and Chion-in, which had originally been planned. For lunch, the guests wanted to go to a famous tsukemen restaurant in Gion, but the staff said there was a 40-minute wait, so I took them instead to a long-established udon restaurant next to Gion Kagetsu. It is well known among Kyoto locals as a place frequented by celebrities, but because it does not offer English-language service it seems little known among inbound tourists. The guests were delighted to be able to enter a modest, local Japanese eatery, and enjoyed the oyakodon and curry udon, savoring how delicious they were. Inside the tunnel of the Sagano Scenic Railway, fatigue seemed to catch up with them and they dozed off a little, but they were very satisfied with the magnificent scenery of the Hozugawa gorge.

    Can You Do a Private Day Tour of Kyoto's Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu-dera? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guided a private tour for guests visiting from North America. First, we had them purchase Icoca cards, then took the JR line to Inari. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, I explained Shinto before we walked through the iconic torii gate pathway. Further along, at the "Omokaru-ishi" (heavy-light stone), everyone said it was "heavier than expected." At the "Neagari-no-Matsu" pine, the guests experienced the ritual of passing under the pine roots while praying for improved fortune, and they enjoyed it with laughter. At Kiyomizu-dera, I explained Buddhism. The guests made wishes at the "Daikoku-sama" and "Kannon-sama," and enjoyed drinking the sacred water at the "Otowa Waterfall." At Yasaka Koshindo, some of the guests imitated the "see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil" monkeys for a commemorative photo, and the rest of the group laughed heartily.

    After graduating Kyoto Univ. I joined Mitsubishi-UFJ Bank, Osaka Branch where I met my wife who was a master of Englsih, so I started studying English.
    The bank allowed me to go to Columbia Graduate business school in New York and got MBA Degree there. I worked in London and Manchester Branch.
    During staying in U.K., I was introduced by BBC and Financial Times News Paper about my achievement there. I was selected as a personal assistant and interpreter for the President of the Bank.
    I made many business trips with him to overseas countries. I experienced as an interpreter for meeting late Henry Kissinger and the President of Citi. Corp.
    I changed the job to ORIX corporation, there I was promoted to a Board Member. When the company had acquired Dutch company, I was a member as an accountant to check the Dutch company’s statements of accounts.
    My hobbies are cooking, singing a song, playing tennis & golf, enjoy seeing arts especially opera & musical, travel. I am also busy with taking care of grandchildren. I passed Government Licensed Guide Exam. in 2016. After I retired in 2017, I started guide job as a part timer. So far, I accomplished guide job more than 500 times.

    What's a Private Day Trip in Hiroshima and Miyajima Like for Cruise Passengers? A Licensed Guide's Report The tour was originally scheduled to start at 9:00, but since the ship was arriving just after 7:00, I waited early at Itsukaichi Port. The guests came out just after 8:00, and as they had requested to visit Miyajima first, we started with sightseeing there. After boarding the vessel to Miyajima, we visited the Peace Memorial Museum, which was the most crowded I had ever seen it in all my time guiding. Because I had reserved electronic tickets in advance, we were able to enter right away, but all of the foreign-language audio guides were already checked out and unavailable. The inside was also extremely crowded, so much so that I worried whether the guests had been able to see the exhibits properly. For lunch, we were finally able to get okonomiyaki at the third restaurant we tried. After finishing the tour of the park, when it was time to simply return to the port by taxi, the guests said they wanted to look around the city center on their own, so I guided them to the downtown area right near the Peace Park. (The ship was scheduled to depart at 18:00.) Since the contracted 7 hours (8:15–15:15) were about to pass, I explained and confirmed the way to return to Itsukaichi Port (by taxi), and we parted ways on the spot. (Since I had managed to complete a schedule I was quite satisfied with, and the guests seemed to have enjoyed it, I did not mention that things might get slightly complicated, such as "I have to return to the port and have no means of transportation.") In the morning, I had driven to the port and left my car there, so I had no means to return to the port and had to use the train and a taxi (there is no public transportation to the port) to get back. In a case like this, where only I have to return to the original (distant) meeting point, I would appreciate it if you could tell me whether I need to cover the train fare (240 yen) and taxi fare (1,230 yen) myself. (If I do need to cover it myself, I accept that.) I do not have a receipt for the train fare, but I have attached the one for the taxi. Thank you very much.

    What Is a Private Wheelchair-Accessible Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. I had been told beforehand that one of the guests walked with a cane, but the day before the tour there was a request to use a wheelchair, so I was able to arrange a rental service in Chuo Ward on short notice. It was my first time guiding guests who used a wheelchair, but working together with the group, we were able to transfer between the subway and JR lines and visit Ueno Park, Yanaka, and Shibuya. Thanks to the calm and cheerful atmosphere of the group, there were many moments where we enjoyed conversations with local people and exchanged smiles. It was also a great learning experience for me to guide from a barrier-free perspective.

    I’m a qualified guide and interpreter, proud to be awarded as one of the finalists of Japan guide awards 2025.

    I have conducted over 100 tours a year since March 2024, with more than 90% of my clients awarding a five-star rating.

    I love Japanese food(eating and cooking!), cultures such as traditional arts and crafts, and so much more! I’ve always explored places seeking new things and love to share them with you.

    I was born and raised in Tokyo(for over 40 years!) but used to live in the U.S. for a couple of years as a child.

    What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America, having arrived only the day before, so I showed them a classic Monday itinerary. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) is one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures. The weather was pleasant, but they seemed a little disappointed that the cherry blossoms had not bloomed very much yet. I reassured them that the blossoms would surely be in bloom during their stay in Japan, and I introduced famous cherry blossom spots such as Shinjuku Gyoen and Ueno Park. For lunch, since they had eaten ramen the day before, I took them to a restaurant where they could enjoy tempura, and they were very pleased with it. Throughout the tour, I believe the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was reasonably good, and it was an enjoyable day of guiding. Since Suica had been set up on the smartphone in advance, the itinerary proceeded smoothly. The guests walked quickly, and even asked to keep moving rather than standing still on the escalators. We first held a planning discussion at the Hotel, narrowed down the places to visit, and at their request decided to go to OZEKI Tokyo Gallery. The route we set was Meiji Shrine, Shinjuku Gyoen, OZEKI Tokyo Gallery, Ueno Toshogu Shrine, and Asakusa in that order, before returning to the Hotel. At Shinjuku Gyoen, the Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms had not yet bloomed, but a few other varieties were in bloom, so they enjoyed taking photographs. The camellias were in full bloom, which they also found fascinating and photographed. At OZEKI Tokyo Gallery, they purchased one lighting fixture. At Ueno Toshogu Shrine, they were impressed by the magnificent carvings and the bronze lanterns. In Asakusa, they drew omikuji fortunes and also visited Asakusa Shrine. It was fortunate that there were surprisingly few people. They purchased two dorayaki at Kameju before heading back. At Ginza Station, they said this was a good place to stop, and the tour concluded.

    What Is a Private Walking Tour of Central Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report It was a sunny and warm day, and we enjoyed touring central Tokyo. Since some of the guests had difficulty walking, we proceeded at a rather slow pace throughout the tour. At the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, I explained the history and remaining structures of Edo Castle, and as some of the guests were quite knowledgeable about Japan and history, we were able to have many interesting conversations. Several varieties of cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the guests took photographs. For lunch, I guided them to a soba restaurant, where they enjoyed soba and tendon. It seemed to be a flavor they had never experienced before, and I believe they were satisfied. We also visited Meiji Shrine at a relaxed pace, and on this day there were weddings, a shrine visit for a newborn, and post-graduation visits taking place, which slowed us down, but the guests were very pleased. As we were running quite behind schedule, I had planned to explain the grounds of Asakusa, but at the guests' request, we ended the tour a little early.

    What Is an Evening Private Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Yasaka Shrine, and Gion The guests were a group visiting from North America. It was their first time in Japan and Kyoto. This was an evening tour starting at 16:30. Because the tour began in the evening, the places we could visit were limited, so I took them to Fushimi Inari, Yasaka Shrine, and Gion. During the tour, they experienced the basics of visiting a shrine, such as how to purify themselves and how to pray, and they also enjoyed drawing omikuji fortunes. After visiting Gion, the plan was to take them back to the Hotel and say goodbye, but since they wanted to have dinner in Gion, the tour ended a little earlier than planned. I believe they enjoyed many new experiences.
