    • 1200 Tsukiji Outer Market Lunch at conveyor belt sushi Sushizanmai No. 2 branch Kabukiza Theatre Ginza 4-chome intersection
    • 1300 We had planned to part ways at Ginza Station, but since they said "we want to go to Shibuya," and it was also on my way home, I accompanied them to Shibuya. Hachiko was under construction and couldn't be seen, but we crossed the Scramble Crossing and parted ways. I had already explained the route home by JR.

Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shinjuku, Tsukiji, and Shibuya The guests were visitors from North America who had arrived in Japan for the first time the previous night. They planned to stay in Tokyo for a few days and then visit Kanazawa and Ishigaki. Since they had arrived late at night and had not seen much of the surroundings, I guided them through Omoide Yokocho, Godzilla Road, and the 3D cat display before heading to Shinjuku Gyoen. Despite unexpectedly low temperatures, strong winds, and rain, the Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms were about 70% in bloom, and other varieties ranged from already leafed to still in bud, offering great variety. The guests enjoyed taking photos. Since the tour they had booked for the following day also included the Imperial Palace, I explained the history of the area from Tokyo Station through Marunouchi, and then the history from Edo Castle to the Imperial Palace. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, one of the guests wanted to eat sushi while the other did not eat fish, so I guided them to a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant. One guest enjoyed an assortment of tuna and eel, while I introduced cucumber rolls and egg sushi to the other, which they enjoyed. As that may not have been quite enough, they also purchased some fried chicken along the way. Although the tour was originally scheduled to end at Ginza 4-chome, the guests wanted to see Shibuya, and since it was also on my way home, I guided them to Shibuya. We parted ways after crossing the scramble crossing, and the guests planned to do some shopping in Shibuya.

I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.
    My course includes 4 to 5 (in 6 hours) sites from the following depending on where I will pick the guests up;
    – Senso ji Temple
    – Kappabashi Kitchenware Market
    – Tokyo Skytree
    – Ueno Park
    – Nezu Shrine
    – Imperial Palace outer park
    – Tokyo Central Station, Marunouchi historic district
    – Tsukiji Fish Market
    – Koishikawa Korakuen Garden
    – Ginza
    – Odaiba
    – Hama Rikyu Garden
    – Shinjuku Gyoen Garden
    – Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building
    – Roppongi
    – Meiji Shrine
    – Harajuku & Takeshita Street
    – Shibuya
    – and Any of your interest.

I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

I am also happy to develop any other site the guests have interest.

A Private Tour in Shibuya with SHIBUYA SKY: A Licensed Guide's Report This was a somewhat challenging assignment among the ones I have handled recently. Among the guests, one had a way of speaking English that I found the most difficult to follow, which caused me some concern. The group's preferences were also clearly divided, and during some free time before heading to SHIBUYA SKY, we stopped by Harakado, where the guests quickly scattered across different floors, and I worried about whether we would be able to regroup. In the end, everyone had gathered in front of the building's entrance, so there was no problem, but it reminded me once again of how important it is to confirm the time and place for regrouping in advance. Since the guests had reserved tickets for SHIBUYA SKY, I guided them to a restaurant in the same building for lunch as well. As they wished to return to the Hotel once before dinner, I saw them off at the Hotel and we then parted ways.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

Title: What's a Private Winter Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Skytree, and Shibuya The guest was visiting Japan from Europe. Because the main hall of Senso-ji Temple closes at 5:00, we changed the meeting time from 15:00 to 14:00. The guest had only just arrived that morning. Unfortunately, it rained that day and it was as cold as midwinter. I explained how to ride the trains and subway, including how to make transfers. The guest was very interested in history, religion, and culture, asked many questions, and also shared stories about their home. The guest was surprised at how clean everything in Japan is and that the trains run right on schedule. At Nakamise, the guest tried mitarashi dango and said it was delicious. Unfortunately, at Tokyo Skytree we were unable to see the view. Using a picture in the brochure, I explained that Mount Fuji can be seen in a certain direction on a clear day. We had tea at Solamachi and talked about various things, then returned to Shibuya, where the guest experienced the Shibuya Crossing. I introduced a shabu-shabu restaurant and then we returned to the hotel. The guest is going to travel around the Tohoku region next, so I think they will be able to see the cherry blossoms on a fine day.

What Is a Private Himeji Castle Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from North America who first visited another region in Japan where they had relatives before coming to Osaka. Before their trip, they had done a lot of research and read various books. They brought a large, impressive camera, and before heading to the entrance of Himeji Castle, I introduced them to a spot near the zoo where they could take a photo just like the one on the postcards. The guests were interested in Japanese history and had long wanted to visit Japan, so even though Himeji Castle was crowded, we walked through it slowly while talking about its history and architecture. Afterward, we visited Koko-en Garden and strolled around. Since we left Koko-en a little early, we finished by going to the popular bakery "Lamp," where the guests bought some bread, and then we parted ways. Contrary to the weather forecast it was cloudy, but we did not run into any rain, which was fortunate.

Title: What Is a Private Miyajima and Peace Park Tour in Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived at Hiroshima Airport and had visited Peace Memorial Park on their own beforehand, so while waiting for the Aqua Net ferry, I explained various things about Hiroshima's past and present. It was the first time guests had even covered my World Heritage Sea Route ferry fare, and I was very surprised. The guests had no particular preferences about food, but I had heard beforehand about a dietary preference and was a bit worried about lunch; in the end lunch was skipped, which quietly surprised me. The four-hour tour went by in a flash, but I was able to share so much with the guests, and I also learned many things from them. It was truly a wonderful and enriching time, and I am deeply grateful.

What Is a Private Miyajima Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report This was a case where I served as a substitute at the request of a senior guide, and the meeting place had already been communicated to the guests. The taxi from Ujina Port arrived a little early, allowing us to start slightly ahead of schedule. The entrance to the ferry terminal was crowded with passengers, but I was relieved to meet the guests right away. The guests were one group of relatives. They enjoyed Itsukushima Shrine, and for Daisho-in Temple, which has a long staircase, I kept things comfortable by going only as far as the entrance area. Because of the last-minute handover, a reservation at an okonomiyaki restaurant could not be secured, and the café that usually has no wait was full, so we could not have the lunch as originally planned. However, the guests were delighted with fried oysters and local craft beer, and enjoyed taking photos beneath the fully bloomed weeping cherry blossoms. In response to the request to go shopping at a store in Miyajimaguchi that had been scouted in the morning, we took an earlier ferry back. I was glad that the guests were very pleased to be able to buy the souvenirs they wanted.

Since the guests' lunch preferences were not known in advance, I was unable to make a reservation beforehand, and although securing seats at the okonomiyaki restaurant was quick, it took quite a long time for the dish to be cooked and finished, which made me nervous inside. Hiroshima & Miyajima in 1 Day: Private Tour

    Tour Itinerary

    • Gather at the Hotel lobby at 11 AM → Walk to the Carp Baseball Gallery → Andersen building on Hondori shopping street → Peace Memorial Park (Atomic Bomb Dome, Monument in Memory of the Mobilized Students, Children's Peace Monument, Flame of Peace, Cenotaph for the Atomic Bomb Victims, Rest House) → Lunch at Micchan Sohonten Orizuru Tower branch → Okonomiyaki restaurant Uzushio → Take the 2:15 PM World Heritage Sea Route ferry to Miyajima → Statue of Taira no Kiyomori → Grand Torii Gate → Itsukushima Shrine → Walk to JR Miyajimaguchi Station → Take JR to Hiroshima Station → Take a taxi to arrive at Hilton Hiroshima → Disband at 6:50 PM

What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Some of the guests were very fond of baseball and asked to be taken to the Carp Gallery to learn about the Hiroshima Carp players and the team mascot "Slyly," but unfortunately it was closed that day. On the way to the Atomic Bomb Dome, I introduced the A-bombed buildings along Hondori Street and a player's handprint, and the guests showed deep interest. After guiding them through the Peace Memorial Park, the guests said they felt overwhelmed with sorrow and regret, so we skipped the museum. For lunch, I recommended okonomiyaki and stopped by the nearest Mitchan Sohonten, but it was more crowded than expected, so we went to an alternative restaurant. The restaurant had many autographs from Carp players displayed inside, and the guests were delighted. The menu could also accommodate a dietary need within the group. In Miyajima, I guided them mainly on its history and religious background. On the train back, we got caught in the evening rush and the guests seemed tired, so one of the guests suggested catching a taxi from Hiroshima Station, and we headed to the Hotel by taxi. The guests were smiling throughout and appeared very satisfied, which was a great relief to me as well!

Title: Can You Do a Private Kyoto Tour Away from the Crowds? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. Both had a calm and easygoing manner. They requested places with fewer tourists, and since they wanted to see a bamboo grove somewhere other than Arashiyama, we decided to visit Adashino Nenbutsu-ji. The bus service there is extremely infrequent, so I planned to take a taxi from Saga-Arashiyama Station. On previous occasions a taxi had usually arrived within about five minutes, but today it took a while, so we walked out to Marutamachi Street and finally managed to catch one after nearly ten minutes. This was likely because the tourist season had begun. At Adashino Nenbutsu-ji, although only for a short time, I think they were able to view the bamboo grove in a somewhat peaceful atmosphere. However, the area has become popular recently, with more foreign visitors than before. Even so, it was calmer for taking photos than Arashiyama. We then went to Fushimi Inari, and from the Higashiyama area to Ginkaku-ji. The cherry blossoms along the Philosopher's Path were nearly in full bloom, and it was very crowded, with more than double the usual number of visitors. The cherry blossoms were beautiful at every place we visited. I saw them off by city bus to near their hotel (Shijo-Karasuma), ending the tour. The photo was taken near the Yasaka Pagoda.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

Title: What Is a Private Walking Tour of Morioka, Iwate Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The designated pickup location was listed as a hotel in Morioka, but this turned out to be an error, and the actual location was a different hotel near Morioka Station. The guest emailed me on the morning of the tour, so we were able to avoid any problems. Last April, there was also a mistake with the meeting point during a private tour in Morioka. That time it was not this hotel but a different one. The guest told me they were not fond of crowds and preferred remote, rural areas — in other words, the countryside. Before coming to Iwate Prefecture, they had traveled to Yamagata Prefecture and Sendai in Miyagi. After Morioka City, they planned to visit Aomori, Hakodate, and Sapporo City. While we were talking about MLB player Shohei Ohtani, the guest mentioned being a classmate and friend of Dodgers pitcher Kershaw. It reminded me once again how small the world is. This time we walked a great deal. Snow-covered Mount Iwate looked absolutely beautiful. It was a perfect day for walking. According to the pedometer, we covered 15K, which was quite a lot. Since we were chatting along the way, the time felt short and I did not feel very tired, but on the train home my legs and hips felt a little sore. It was a day that inspired me to become able to guide not only in Iwate Prefecture but throughout the entire Tohoku region.
