    What's a Private 6-Hour Kyoto Walking Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Some of the guests had previously spent time living in Japan years ago and had visited Kyoto several times before. This time they came to Japan to celebrate a graduation. The tour took place under a blazing sun with temperatures reaching 36°C. It was a 6-hour non-stop tour with no car transportation and no lunch arrangement. I guided the group to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, Nijo Castle, and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. We finished the tour as scheduled at 14:00, and I handed them a route map for their way back before saying goodbye at the bamboo grove. Some of the guests said they especially enjoyed Kiyomizu-dera Temple (with its cliff-side construction), while others said they liked Nijo Castle best.

    What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Nikko? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kegon Falls, Toshogu Shrine, and Rinnoji Temple The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time. Their expectations for Nikko were very high, and since they wanted to see as many sights as possible, they requested Kegon Falls, Toshogu Shrine, and Rinnoji Temple. They were very pleased to be able to visit both Kegon Falls and the World Heritage area on the same day, so I first took them to Kegon Falls, where they were moved by its grandeur and took many photographs. They also seemed very satisfied with the yuba set meal they had at a nearby restaurant. At Toshogu Shrine, despite the many slopes, they proceeded at a fast pace, but they showed great interest in the historical explanations at key points and listened attentively. Furthermore, at Rinnoji Temple, after visiting the Sanbutsudo Hall and the Daigomado Hall, the guests became completely absorbed in feeding the carp at the Shoyoen Garden. They were a close-knit group and seemed to thoroughly enjoy a full day in Nikko. I also felt it was truly rewarding to be able to take them to Chuzenji and the highlights of the World Heritage area all in a single day.

    Title: What's a 6-Hour Private Nikko Nature Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. They were cheerful and, though one of them seemed reserved at first, a smile appeared as we talked, which was nice. They were studying Japanese and would occasionally share the words they had learned. They said they wanted to enjoy nature and see the real Nikko rather than obviously touristy or crowded spots. My personal best 6-hour course is exactly that — fully enjoying nature while avoiding the busy hours and taking in the World Heritage sites — so they happily accepted it. They wanted to relax without rushing and said they didn't mind additional taxi costs, which was very helpful. Regarding lunch, I had been told beforehand about certain food restrictions, which were easy to accommodate, so I felt reassured. However, on the day I learned of an additional restriction, and since there was only one suitable option in that case, I called ahead so they could prepare for it. Because of this restriction, dining where language could be a barrier can be difficult, so they had not arranged meals at the Hotel either. There were also no restaurants nearby, so I wanted to suggest something they could eat from a convenience store, but they said they would manage with snacks from a vending machine. I checked which of those did not contain the relevant ingredient and let them know. I was able to show them everything they wanted to see over the day without any strain, and it became a wonderful day.

    What's a Private Tokyo Sightseeing Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shibuya, Harajuku, Meiji Shrine, and Asakusa The guests were a multi-generational group visiting from North America. Because they were tired from long flights the previous day, we set the departure for late morning. At Shinagawa Station, access from the Takanawa exit had become difficult due to ongoing construction at the Keikyu station area. Since they wanted to exchange their JR Pass, I directed them to the station travel concierge desk. Although the original plan started with Omoide Yokocho, we decided to stop by Shibuya as well, based on the wishes of some of the guests. Next, they enjoyed yakitori at an izakaya in Omoide Yokocho. In Harajuku, we started with Takeshita Street at the request of some of the guests, which took a little time. During our visit to Meiji Shrine, one of the guests fell a little behind, and as the temperature was 34 degrees, it was decided that they could not continue. So, after finishing shopping, some of the guests returned to the hotel together. The remaining members continued the tour, but as they were tired from the heat, we decided to skip Nezu Shrine and go only to Asakusa. Perhaps because we arrived in Asakusa a bit late, or because of the heat, the crowds seemed relatively light. Since they planned to sightsee around Tokyo on their own from the next day, I gave them a Tokyo Travel Guide and explained other candidate destinations as well as how to read the train route map.

    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Title: What Is a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was fine, and it was a day where heat exhaustion was a real concern. Soon after meeting, the guests expressed a wish to visit Noritake Garden, but I explained that we could not go since it is a facility in Nagoya. As the guests did not have an IC card, I let them use my own IC card and settled the cost afterward. The East Gardens of the Imperial Palace were extremely hot, so I offered a parasol for the guests to use. In Asakusa, the guests suddenly said they wanted to eat ramen and thought a particular spot looked good, so we ended up having ramen. Also, while on the subway, the guests suddenly said they wanted a carabiner like the one someone else was wearing, so I searched several shops but could not find one. I told them about a sporting goods store near the Hotel that might have it in stock. We visited Meiji Shrine, saw the guests back to the Hotel, settled the transportation costs, and finished. The tour was extended by 40 minutes.     What Is a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, Shinjuku, and Shibuya The guests came to Japan and, after already visiting Osaka and Kyoto, made Tokyo their final destination. Since they would be staying in Tokyo, they wanted to see the main highlights today. Along with explaining how to use the subway, I introduced the major spots around the city. We first visited the Tsukiji Outer Market, where they enjoyed a variety of things you can only taste there, such as sushi, tamagoyaki, and sweets. They seemed to especially like the dried seafood we sampled along the way, and they bought a large amount as souvenirs. We then visited Namiyoke Shrine and Higashi Honganji Temple, and I explained the differences between Shinto and Buddhism and how each has influenced Japanese culture. They noted that Higashi Honganji, as one can see, features Indian-style architecture yet has a modern feel. Next we headed to Asakusa and Sensoji Temple, where they saw many people dressed in kimono and were eager to enjoy the experience themselves. Due to time constraints, I made arrangements at a shop so they could enjoy it on a later day. After that, we went to Shinjuku, where they enjoyed the Godzilla statue and the 3D cat advertisement. They were deeply moved, as they had watched the Godzilla films since the very first release. Finally, we headed to Shibuya, where the Hotel was located, and I explained the area and the way back to the Hotel before ending the tour. Although it was a tour during extreme heat, I believe the guests were able to enjoy it energetically.

    My name is Tomoko Nakayama. I am 60-year-old and live near Hiroshima station with my husband. I am a pharmacist.
    I like travelling, and I have visited about 20 countries so far.
    I was impressed by the vast nature of Canada. The lakes formed by water flowing from glaciers were emerald green and very beautiful.
    What I felt most in Europe was the difference between Japan and Europe over the ancient architectural styles. In Japan, wooden structures are the norm, but in Europe, there are many marble buildings, and I realized the difference in lifestyle and culture that comes from the difference in climate and topography.
    When I saw the musical Aladdin on Broadway in New York, I was painfully aware of the lack of my English skills.
    I think visiting different places has really helped me to broaden my horizons.
    Currently, I work as a English volunteer, guiding Peace Park, Shukkeien Garden, Miyajima island, and Hiroshima Castle.
    I am studying English hard so that I can more fluently explain the good things about Japan in my own words.

    What Is a Private Matsue Castle Town Tour Like from Sakaiminato Cruise Port? A Licensed Guide's Report The group arrived by taxi from Sakaiminato cruise terminal to Matsue Station. Because the first scheduled port of call, Nagasaki, was affected by a severe storm and they could not disembark, Sakaiminato became their first port of call in Japan. As it was their first visit to Japan, they had many questions, and it was a pleasure to guide them. There were few tourists, so we were able to leisurely stroll through the quiet castle and castle town. I was concerned about heatstroke due to the heat and humidity, but everyone stayed hydrated as needed and remained in good spirits as they boarded the taxi and headed back to Sakaiminato. I sent a confirmation email three days before the tour, but it apparently did not arrive. When I sent a message via a messaging app the day before, I received a reply.

    What Is a Private Day Tour of Shizuoka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nihondaira, Kunozan Toshogu, and Sengen Shrine We visited several spots hoping to see Mount Fuji, but in the end we were unable to catch a view of it. Even so, the guests were pleased to enjoy the scenery in all directions from Nihondaira, to walk unhurriedly through Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, to share katsudon together at a typical Japanese eatery, and to take their time exploring Sengen Shrine with detailed explanations. At Sengen Shrine in particular, learning how various deities are enshrined together and understanding the role of each one, it was memorable to see one of the guests, who had an upcoming exam, praying earnestly. It seemed that the guests appreciated that this was a tour taken at a relaxed pace.

    Title: What's a Private Osaka Temple and Dotonbori Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Because this was a last-minute tour, I asked several times about where the guests wanted to go and sent plan ideas, but they were not fully satisfied, and so we arrived at the day itself. The guests seemed to love temples, so we went to Shitennoji Temple, which they enjoyed. Some of the guests bought candles for honoring ancestors and candles for family safety, as well as charms, and they were very devout. They also rang the bell to honor their ancestors. However, they did not enter the main temple buildings and only took photos from outside. Next we went to Dotonbori, as they wanted to visit a waterside area, and we looked at the canal and the cruise boats, deciding to come back again after dark. Since the guests liked temples and shrines, I also showed them Hozenji Yokocho. Some of the guests wanted to eat takoyaki or okonomiyaki, but opinions were divided, and in the end we moved on without eating anything. We headed to Nipponbashi to look for Pokemon cards and kendama, but moving around in the heat was difficult, so we tried to walk through the covered arcades as much as possible. We could not find anything in particular, so I called a taxi to move to a waterside area, choosing the Sakuranomiya area. However, since only 20 minutes of tour time remained, the guests went there on their own and we parted ways. Before the start, one of the guests stayed behind to do their own activity, another was delayed in setting out, and moving from the Hotel in Nishi-Umeda to Higashi-Umeda, which is convenient for reaching Shitennoji, took longer than expected. I regret that I was not able to plan an efficient route from the guests' Hotel in advance. They had also suggested from the beginning using taxis for getting around, but I could not think of any natural waterside spots that they wanted to visit, so I ended up searching online and telling the taxi driver the places that came up. From that point it felt as though a guide was no longer needed, so we parted ways, but I wondered whether it would have been better to stay with them until the end.

    The town of Osaka offers a different atmosphere than Tokyo. I like both exciting Osaka and nature-filled Wakayama Prefecture.
    If you stay in Osaka for 3 days, you can go to Koyasan for one day, or even for a day trip, so I recommend sightseeing at Koyasan.
    If you are tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city, the nature of Koyasan will relax you.
