Tokyo in Half a Day: Meiji Shrine & Kabukiza Theatre

    Tour Itinerary

    • 09:30 Meet at the hotel in Shinjuku
    • 10:00 Visit Meiji Shrine
    • 11:50 Walk-and-eat lunch at Tsukiji Outer Market
    • 13:00 Kabukiza Theatre
    • 13:30 Disband at Kaminarimon Gate of Sensoji Temple

What Is a Private Meiji Shrine and Tsukiji Market Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report 1. The tour and the guests' reactions The guests loved the atmosphere of Meiji Shrine, and they were thrilled to come across a scene where a newly married couple was walking in procession through the shrine grounds. One of the guests had an interest in archery and, drawn to the goma arrows, purchased one. They also wrote a prayer on an ema votive tablet to leave behind, and thoroughly enjoyed Meiji Shrine. At Tsukiji, the guests requested, "Please take us to the places Toru recommends," so I introduced them to a sushi restaurant I frequent, grilled tuna skewers, fish cakes from Hamato, yakitori from Torito, and strawberry daifuku from Soratsuki. They enjoyed all of the dishes and seemed very satisfied. In particular, one of the guests works as a pastry chef and was amazed, saying that Japanese strawberries were "amazing." Since I heard that the next day was a birthday for one of the guests, I treated them to beer and we held a small celebration together, which they were delighted with. 2. Other comments, special notes, and requests to [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) The tour arrangements were made through a travel agency in Oceania, and it turned out that the agency had communicated the Skytree reservation time after the tour incorrectly by 30 minutes, which left us without enough time to fully see the Imperial Palace. After consulting with the guests, I guided them to Kaminarimon and then explained how to get to Skytree before ending the tour. I feel there is a risk that, without speaking directly with the guests beforehand by email, a miscommunication can arise somewhere along the way. This time in particular, even the messaging app contact was the agency's, so it was difficult to communicate and quite a struggle. I understand that when booking through an OTA it is hard to tell whether a contact is the guest's or the agency's, but when direct contact with the guest is not possible, it is impossible to predict what problems may arise on the day. It would be helpful if [Japan Guide Agency](https://www.j-g-a.org/) could consider some kind of measure for this. For the time being, I will simply make a point of confirming who my communication counterpart is.

What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan from North America on a long trip of about two months. When choosing places to visit, they expressed interest in hearing stories related to Catholicism, so after considering several options I took them to Noboricho Church near Shukkeien Garden, which was built to console the spirits of those who died after World War II and to pray for world peace. They seemed very satisfied with this visit, and I was glad I had taken them there. Afterwards I guided them to Shukkeien Garden, Hiroshima Castle, Peace Memorial Park, and Miyajima. Although our schedule was tight, they were able to collect stamps and goshuin seals. During the trip we learned that one of the guests had become sensitive to smells and foods, so they could not eat or drink very much, but they were able to enjoy fresh juice at Miyajima. Spending the day with the group made this a truly memorable tour for me as well.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Nanzoin, Hakata Tower, and Ramen The guests had joined an excursion in Sasebo the day before and were scheduled to join another excursion in Hiroshima the next day, so they wanted to experience a small, intimate private tour. They were delighted by Kido Nanzoin Temple, which is full of nature and gave them a sacred feeling. At the department store food floor, they loved the beautifully arranged presentation of fruits and bento boxes, and took many photos. They also enjoyed Ippudo ramen. Finally, we took in a panoramic view of Fukuoka city from Hakata Tower, and from there we walked back to the ship.

Title: What's a Private Bamboo Grove and Temple Tour in Arashiyama and Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, visiting Japan for the first time. Since they wished to see a beautiful bamboo grove, they chose Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple. From JR Saga-Arashiyama Station we took a taxi (paid by the guests). Adashino Nenbutsu-ji was as busy as ever, filled with international visitors. Recently, many overseas tourists visit it together with Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple. We walked from Gio-ji Temple to Arashiyama, and the guests had no trouble at all with the walking. During lunch, they connected via smartphone video call to see family back home. After Kinkaku-ji Temple, I saw them off by subway to the nearest station, ending the tour. The photo was taken at the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

What Is a Private Nagasaki Atomic Bomb History Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. They chose a course focused entirely on the atomic bombing, which showed me their deep interest in the atomic bomb and in war more broadly. At Urakami Cathedral, I shared the story of how, after 80 years, the two bells were finally reunited, and I also spoke about the torchlight procession of the atomic-bombed statue of Mary, and they listened very attentively. At Nagasaki Stadium City, the guests enjoyed sashimi made from fresh Nagasaki fish, and they ate a great deal, which made me happy as well. They had said they wanted to drink a matcha latte, so I took them to a tea shop inside Stadium City, and they were very satisfied.

Hello, I’m Rikako, but please call me Coco. It would be my absolute pleasure to show you around my hometown of Nagasaki. Having performed in the Nagasaki Kunchi Festival in my childhood, I developed a deep interest in history and cultural exchange. This motivated me to become a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter during my university years. Since then, I have gained valuable experience—from assisting ambassadors at the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony to handling a wide variety of tours, including private and coach tours, site inspections, international conference support, and VIP hospitality.
Explaining about Nagasaki’s history and culture is the most important to me. It is not only about this. I would love to provide genuine care so that your time in Nagasaki remains in your heart forever.
I’m truly looking forward to guiding you in Nagasaki 🙂

What's a Private Day Tour of Naoshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. There was occasional light rain, but it was so minor that I could guide without an umbrella. The guests told me that Yayoi Kusama comes up in their context, and that they had come all the way to Naoshima because they really wanted to see the yellow pumpkin and the red pumpkin. On this trip they were traveling for a while, using Tokyo as a base to see places such as Mount Fuji, then coming to Naoshima, and afterward planning to sightsee in Osaka. They asked me about the areas in Japan that experience many earthquakes, so I gave a general explanation, and when I mentioned that there is concern about a Nankai earthquake in this region, they showed great interest. When I said that Naoshima and the Setouchi area have relatively few disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes due to the local geography, making it a comfortable place to live, they were convinced. The guests were friendly and cheerful, and I felt they were able to enjoy a full day on Naoshima.

Hello. My name is Hisao Kaji. I was born in 1945. I was raised in Takamatsu City from 3 years old. So, I have been living in Takamatsu for around 75 years. I believe I know Takamatsu City and the Kagawa prefecture area very well. If you come to Takamatsu, Kagawa I think you can enjoy your tour with me. I started a Government Licensed Guide in 2019. So, I have been a licensed guide for about 5 years. My favorite destinations are Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsurin Garden, the top of Mt. Yashima and so on. I always show you an itinerary about one month before your tour date, and I will accept any questions, other favorite places you want to visit. Communicating with you, I would like to accommodate your request for your tour. I always listen to NPR on the internet to know how the world is moving and improve my English. I like conversation based upon it with my life. I stayed in the USA for 8 months for a Power Systems Engineering Course conducted by General Electric in New York State when I was 28 years old. I sometimes talk about my memory of those days with the guests. I am very happy to guide tourists because I can see the guests become happy and enjoy themselves when I am guiding better. Nothing is more wonderful than that. I welcome your visit to Takamatsu City and Kagawa Prefecture. I believe you will have a pleasant time through my guide.

What Is a Private Kanazawa Samurai and Crafts Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from South America. Kanazawa had been included in this trip on the recommendation of a travel agency. Although there were no specific instructions about the tour plan until the day itself, the guests had already visited places such as Koyasan and Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and expressed a wish to visit places other than shrines and temples, so I arranged the tour to help them understand Kanazawa's samurai culture and traditional crafts. As Kanazawa was the final destination of this trip to Japan, their understanding of the country had already deepened, and they asked many interesting questions in response to my explanations and seemed to enjoy the experience very much.

Title: What Is a Private Full-Day Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Nihonbashi, and Asakusa The guests were a group of six with roots in the Middle East who have long lived in Europe. They were friends rather than relatives. Some spoke fluent English, and among themselves they conversed in Persian. All of them were visiting Japan for the first time. Part of the group had arrived a few days before the tour and had already walked around Hamarikyu and the Imperial Palace, but since the rest of the group had arrived the day before the tour, we revisited the Imperial Palace together. One of the guests had a strong interest in Japanese history and many other topics, asking questions about the meaning of the differences in the stone colors of the Edo Castle walls (on the Sakuradamon side) and comparisons between Shinto and Zoroastrianism — some so detailed that my own knowledge could not fully answer them accurately. These questions sparked lively conversation. Since there had been no prior communication about the itinerary, I began the tour on the loose premise of visiting the main tourist spots. As a result, we spent a relaxed lunchtime together. The guests wanted to go to a place I recommended, and although there was about a 15-minute wait to be seated, everyone ordered the wagyu beef steak set meal at Suju Dining in the Shin-Marunouchi Building. They enjoyed it with wasabi soy sauce and were all very satisfied, saying it was delicious. Although they used forks, they also practiced using chopsticks enthusiastically. Next, at the food hall in the basement of Nihonbashi Takashimaya, they seemed captivated by the Japanese fruit and other items. They wanted an after-meal coffee to shake off jet-lag drowsiness, so we stopped at a café inside Takashimaya before heading to Asakusa. At Sensoji Temple, everyone tried omikuji fortunes, and they were delighted with their good fortunes, including two "great blessings." Only one guest drew a "bad fortune" and was visibly disappointed. I explained that by tying it at the designated spot, one can say goodbye to (purify) the bad fortune. As time was running short and I sensed that the group essentially wanted to spend the day relaxing and chatting, I avoided urging them to hurry and skipped Meiji Shrine and Shibuya. They seemed to enjoy that pace. I explained how to get to the Tokyo Skytree observation deck, which they planned to visit the next day, and we said goodbye in front of Ginza Mitsukoshi.

    Hello, I’m Noripy.
I am a lively woman in my 60s who loves having fun. My charm lies in my bright and approachable personality. Drawing on over 30 years of international experience, I began working as a tour guide in 2023. I have conducted over 100 tours annually, ensuring that my clients enjoy Tokyo and its surrounding areas. I have received high praise from a wide range of customers, from teenagers to people in their 80s. I cater to solo travelers, couples, newlyweds, families, and groups of up to about 10 people. Living in the heart of the city, I actively guide tours primarily in Tokyo. In addition to being certified in English, one of my strengths is being able to communicate effectively in Spanish as well.
I’m looking forward to meeting you all in Tokyo!

What Is a Private Kyoto Temple and History Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. This itinerary was arranged to match their wish to learn about history and to see old temples. During my explanations it was difficult to make eye contact, and I sometimes wondered whether they were listening, but they were in fact following closely and would suddenly respond with genuine interest, even if the initial reaction seemed a bit reserved. In situations like this, the best approach is simply to keep explaining each site at my own pace, while also gauging their mood, speaking to them, asking questions, and trying every possible way to engage. Thanks to that effort, at some point in the latter half of the day a kind of switch turned on — a silent switch whose sound I can somehow always hear — and from then on smiles began to appear, and in the end we were able to spend an enjoyable day together, or so I believe. This kind of thing happens often and is nothing unusual to me by now, but when I receive a review in such cases, it makes me all the happier to know they truly enjoyed themselves.

Hello, this is Kazu Akiyama, your tour guide. Nice to meet you and welcome to Japan. Thank you for joining me on the tour. Now I am a retired salaried worker, living in Osaka. I have been very much interested in not only learning Japanese history, culture, religion myself, but also talking about them (sometimes going off topics) in English with tourists from all over the world as well. I am so excited being with you as your guide on coming day! I am very much looking forward to you enjoying with me visiting the must-see places and some of the hidden gems. See you soon. Thank you – Kazu Akiyama

What Is a Private Nikko Nature and Hiking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. They love nature, and their main reason for choosing Nikko was to hike the Senjogahara marshland. The weather was fairly good, and they walked the Akanuma-to-Yudaki Falls course for about 1.5 hours, thoroughly enjoying the vegetation and scenery. For lunch, I had shortlisted two restaurants near Lake Chuzenji, but one had suddenly changed its business hours and the other had a sign saying "No meals served today," so we had no choice but to use whichever place was open. After stopping by Kegon Falls, the guests were charmed by the harmony between the buildings and garden of the Kanaya Hotel History Museum. Near closing time, Taiyuin was practically empty, giving us the place to ourselves. Afterward, I helped them with a reservation for the next day's Shinkansen at the station, then saw them off to their accommodation, where we parted ways.
