    What Is a Private Day Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They had prepared their own itinerary, and I guided them according to it. The guests were scheduled to join a group tour starting the next day, and they signed up for this tour to make the most of their free time on the day before. Since they had booked a show at a samurai restaurant starting at 4:30, I guided them while keeping a close eye on the time. They mentioned that they travel abroad twice a year, and they seemed very accustomed to international travel. The guests said they always research each country they visit carefully beforehand so as not to be impolite. Before coming to Japan, they had looked into various things on YouTube and had even prepared paper towels and garbage bags. They were very pleasant people, and it made me wish that more guests with such a respectful attitude toward the countries they visit would come to Japan.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Tsukiji, and Akihabara The guests were visitors from Oceania, traveling in Japan for the first time. Because the time difference from their home region is only one hour, they were full of energy in the morning. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) is one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures. The guests seemed to really enjoy the mystical atmosphere of Meiji Shrine. On Takeshita Street, they browsed for souvenirs to bring back for family members. I also took them to Kiddy Land, but they could not find the character goods they were looking for, so they mentioned they would visit a character goods store in Harajuku on another day. After that, we went to Tsukiji. Since one of the guests was not fond of raw food, they had omurice and ginger pork at the Tsukiji Uogashi Shokudo food court. They said it was very delicious. For dessert, I recommended ichigo daifuku. They tried the versions with sweet bean paste and custard and remarked, "Japanese sweets are not too sweet, they are just right." Next, we headed to Akihabara. As there was nothing in particular they wanted to buy, I guided them along Chuo-dori. Although it was earlier than planned, they said they were already tired and were happy to finish early, so we parted ways at JR Akihabara Station at 15:00.

    What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Asakusa, and Skytree The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. After spending a few days in Kyushu, they traveled to Tokyo by Shinkansen and planned to stay for about five days before returning home. On this trip, they had no plans to visit places like Kyoto. When I asked about it, they explained that they had a friend from the United States who had lived in Fukuoka years ago and had since returned there repeatedly, so they toured Kyushu together with that friend before sightseeing in Tokyo on their own. At Meiji Shrine, they enthusiastically tried praying in the traditional way. I gave a brief explanation of Takeshita Street and then we headed to the Imperial Palace, where they took many commemorative photos. It was a shame that the Nijubashi (the iron bridge) is currently covered with a white protective sheet for maintenance, but even so, we were able to take photos together with the beautiful Fushimi Yagura turret and the stone bridge in the background. After that, we moved to Tokyo Station, where we decided to have a quick lunch and went to Kamatake Udon at Gransta Yaenkita inside Tokyo Station. There was a line and we waited about ten minutes, but the other lines were even longer, so I think we made the right choice. Above all, they ordered a set of tendon and meat udon, and finished it all, saying, "It was so delicious, and the broth was wonderful too!" The friend from the United States who guided them around Kyushu apparently does not like udon, seemingly because the noodles feel too rubbery, but the guests said, "That guy who says udon isn't good is wrong. Udon is amazing!" — a moment when I was truly glad I had chosen the popular Kamatake Udon. Because we needed to keep to a 1:30 p.m. reservation for Tokyo Skytree, our visit to Senso-ji Temple was a bit rushed, but the omikuji fortunes they drew were both "good luck." They also experienced the purification ritual using a ladle at the water pavilion. We caught the Toei Asakusa Line at just the right time and reached Skytree smoothly. We were about thirty minutes past our reservation time, but we were able to go up to the observation deck without any trouble. On the way up, the elevator featured a winter-themed design, and on the way down, a spring theme, which they enjoyed. They seemed a little nervous looking down at the ground from the glass floor. Finally, since they especially loved Pokemon, I guided them to the Pokemon Center so they could enjoy leisurely shopping there, and then we said our goodbyes.

    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like from Osaka? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Prior communication and coordination, such as selecting the places to visit, were handled in advance. The guests seemed to have a deep interest in and curiosity about Japanese history and culture, and they had listed nine places they wished to visit. Since their stay in Kyoto was two days, they asked me to select about four places worth visiting during the guided tour on the first day. In the end, we decided to build the guided tour around three elements — (1) religion (Shinto and Buddhism), (2) history (the Emperor and the samurai), and (3) nature — and with the guests' agreement we finalized the course of Fushimi Inari → Kiyomizu-dera → Nijo Castle → Arashiyama. All travel was done by public transportation and on foot. On the day, we met at the scheduled time. After introducing ourselves and briefly explaining and confirming the itinerary, we departed from the Hotel. Because the guests were genuinely interested in Japanese history, they eagerly absorbed my somewhat more detailed explanations than usual and asked many questions. In particular, through the visits to Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu-dera, they gained a deep understanding of the differences between Buddhism and Shinto and their historical relationship. At Nijo Castle, they deepened their understanding of the relationship between the shogun and the Emperor in the latter half of the samurai era, as well as the history and the end of samurai rule. Finally, we visited Arashiyama, which boasts some of Kyoto's most representative natural beauty, and they thoroughly enjoyed the bamboo grove path and more. Overall, the explanations at each site and the accompanying questions and answers took more time than planned, so at the final stop in Arashiyama we ran a little short on time, which was my one regret.

    The guests were visitors from North America. During their trip they stayed only in Tokyo and did not travel to other cities for sightseeing. On a previous occasion there had been little time for sightseeing, so this time they came to Japan and set aside time for leisure as well. Although rain had been a concern, it hardly rained at Nanzoin Temple in Sasaguri, which was fortunate. It was the guests' first time in Japan, and they had visited Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka, planning to return home via Tokyo. They responded positively to the suggestions I made. Since they wanted to try local Japanese food, we enjoyed dago-jiru soup and tendon at a restaurant housed in a traditional old house. They were deeply impressed by the beautiful displays in the department store food halls and the Tenjin underground shopping arcade. The guests were energetic and full of life. They especially loved the beauty of Japan's mountains.

They mentioned that the next day they would see off part of the group in Tokyo, then travel to Nagoya, rent a car, and take a trip to Takayama. Since accidents involving foreign drivers have been increasing, I advised them to be careful, and the tour ended.

They had arrived the previous night and planned to travel to Hakone, Kyoto, and Osaka after Tokyo. They had arrived the day before and had already been to Shinjuku and teamLab Borderless right away. The guests were strong walkers and, apart from lunch, walked the whole day without a break. At Tsukiji, they enjoyed wagyu beef and tuna, and also enjoyed some shopping. Since I had heard that one of the guests had a background in design, I took the group to a cloisonné shop in Ginza, where they looked at the pieces with great interest and purchased a pendant.
