What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Temples, Gardens, and Japanese Culture The guests were a group visiting from North America. For some of the guests it was their first trip to Japan, while others had been to Japan before and had done things like windsurfing on Lake Biwa or exploring various places on foot all the way from Tokyo. I found their adventurous approach to overseas travel quite impressive. This time, based on the many requests on the guests' wish list, we focused on covering the western half of Kyoto. It was a wonderful group, always cheerful and full of smiles. One member of the group was joining them, and when I said it was great to become part of such a wonderful group, they replied, "Yes, I'm so excited!" I was able to explain many things, including Japanese history, the tea ceremony, Zen, dry landscape gardens, strolling pond gardens, Shinto and Buddhism. The lead applicant for this booking kept asking "Why, why?" one after another, and each question was a great chance to show my skills as a guide, so I got to talk a great deal. I was very happy when everyone gave a round of applause at the end of the tour. I am very grateful to the driver, Mr. Kawasaki, who introduced us to a good restaurant and even negotiated with the restaurant about the last-order time. Thank you very much. Also, the driver originally scheduled for today (Mr. Kurose) had a bereavement in the family, so the driver was suddenly changed, but I was not notified of this and only found out 15 minutes before the tour started when I received a call from the replacement driver, Mr. Kawasaki. At first I thought it might be some kind of trendy scam, so I contacted Mr. Kurose and was able to confirm the situation. I do not know when the change of driver was decided, but I would kindly ask that I be notified in advance in such cases.

Hello, this is Kazu Akiyama, your tour guide. Nice to meet you and welcome to Japan. Thank you for joining me on the tour. Now I am a retired salaried worker, living in Osaka. I have been very much interested in not only learning Japanese history, culture, religion myself, but also talking about them (sometimes going off topics) in English with tourists from all over the world as well. I am so excited being with you as your guide on coming day! I am very much looking forward to you enjoying with me visiting the must-see places and some of the hidden gems. See you soon. Thank you – Kazu Akiyama

Title: What's a Private Full-Day Walking Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nanzenji, Kiyomizudera, and Gion I was waiting at the Hotel in Kyoto for the meeting, but when the guest had not appeared by the 9:30 meeting time, I sent a message. I received word that the guest was at a different hotel, but since the first destination was Nanzenji Temple, and the meeting Hotel was conveniently located for reaching Nanzenji, I let the guest know I would wait there. The guest arrived by taxi around 10:10. When I asked whether the hotel had been changed, the guest explained that they were staying at hotels of the same chain outside Kyoto, so they had also chosen a hotel of that chain in Kyoto, and apologized for the wait. We took the subway to Nanzenji. On the way, I used an English map to explain today's destinations. At Nanzenji, the guest seemed to enjoy the large Sanmon gate, the quiet atmosphere of the temple grounds, the garden, and the Suirokaku aqueduct, and I took many photos. On the way to Kiyomizudera, there was a fragrance shop, so I asked if they wanted to stop by, and since they did, they bought a favorite perfume. As it was past 12:30 before heading to Kiyomizudera, I asked what they would like to eat, and since they had not yet had tempura, we went to a restaurant serving tempura, where they had a tempura udon set meal and others. They said it was delicious. At Kiyomizudera, they seemed to enjoy the scenery. On the way to Gion, since the guest liked Ghibli animation, we stopped by a Ghibli shop, then went to Yasaka Shrine and Gion. At Yasaka Shrine, I taught the proper way to worship at a shrine and they made their prayer, and they also tried the "beauty water," which brought lots of laughter. Next we went to the Shirakawa area. They seemed to enjoy the atmosphere of this historic preservation district. By this time it was 16:00, so the tour concluded here. When I asked what they would like to do next, they said they wanted to go to Studio NIN, so I showed them the way on the map, went to the nearest station at Gion-Shijo, saw them onto the train, and parted ways here. At the end, they again apologized for the wait.

    Nice to meet you.
My name is Hiroki Muramoto, please call me Hiro.
Hiro in Japanese means large or big. Although I’m neither large nor big, you can call me Hiro. How are you doing ?
I lived in a city nearby Kobe city. Do you know Kobe ? Kobe is famous for Kobe beef and pearl. If you have not yet had Kobe beef, you should taste the authentic Kobe beef. It is very satisfying taste. But I have recently moved to a city in Kyoto prefecture, so I can be in Kyoto city in about one hour. By the way, I am a family of four. I have a son and a daughter. My son now works in Tokyo. I sometimes go to Tokyo to see him. Tokyo is a huge city, but too crowded, so it seems not to suit me. I seem to be better suited to a small city than a big one. Where do you live in ? How many families do you have ? If you like, please tell me about them. I worked in the quality assurance department of a pharmaceutical company and visited the factories of foreign affiliated companies, so I became interested in foreign cultures and obtained a qualification as an interpreter guide in 2015.

I have been a guide for about eight years. During that time, I have guided in Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Kochi and so on, although I could do little guiding work between 2020 and 2022 due to COVID-19. However, since last year, my guiding work has been back! So, I am happy to be able to meet different people again. My hobby is travelling, but sadly, I am not in a position to travel abroad easily at the moment due to the very weak yen, and I hope to travel abroad again when the situation eases a bit more.
How many countries have you been to so far ? Which countries have you liked so far? Another hobby is watching sports – baseball and football. Do you like the baseball ? Do you know Otani, Japanese baseball player ? He has joined Dodgers in Los Angeles this year. I look forward to another successful year for Otani.

By the way, what interests you in Japan? Food, history, scenery ? As far as tourist attractions are concerned, famous places are too crowded. If you like, I also would like to show you some less crowded places. Are you interested in experiencing something ? If you want to experience something, I can suggest an experience plan for you. If so, please contact me as early as possible. As for food, what kind of food do you like? There are many kinds of delicious food. Of course, you can get good food in fine restaurants, but you can also get good food in downtown restaurants. If you like alcohol, why don’t you try Japanese sake? It can range from light and fragrant to rich in flavor, so you’re sure to find a Japanese sake you like.

My motto is “Be content with life.” However, I find myself complaining all the time. If you like, please tell me your motto. I want to treat all guests who visit Japan with the spirit of “Treasure every encounter” and guide them so that they can enjoy themselves and have good memories of Japan.
You only live once (YOLO). So, I also want to enjoy it with you.

I look forward to meeting you.
    Best regard.

What Is a Private Sapporo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Hokkaido Report The guests were visitors from North America who enjoy traveling around the world. Since the guests had visited Japan several times before, I provided an overview of Hokkaido and Sapporo, including their history. The guests took a liking to the main hall and the surrounding grove of Hokkaido Jingu Shrine. They remarked that the large cedar trees were truly impressive. I explained that the towering cedar trees standing beside the approach to the shrine were brought from Honshu in the early Meiji period. I also explained the meaning of shrines and the occasions on which Japanese people visit them.

What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like, Including Antique Shopping on Shinmonzen Street? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came from North America. They were both very energetic and walked a great deal. Since one of the guests wanted to buy a Noh mask, a sword guard (tsuba), and ukiyo-e prints, we took a quick look at Yasaka Shrine and then headed to Shinmonzen Street. In the end, we looked carefully through five shops, but they did not buy anything because they did not find something they liked and the prices were high. Initially the guests had said they wanted to have lunch at Nishiki Market, but I explained the recent situation and suggested that, for a proper lunch, a local family restaurant or a conveyor-belt sushi place would be better. In the end we ate at a Japanese family restaurant, and the guests were very pleased. At the souvenir shop at Kinkaku-ji, they bought chopsticks. The guests planned to stay in Kyoto for a while and then travel on to Kanazawa.

I’m Ryoichi Kazuma and my nickname is “Kazz”. I live in Kyotanabe city next to Kyoto city. I want guests to enjoy Kyoto by seeing and experiencing not only from outside but also from inside. I offer various information from daily matters to traditional cultures. Most destinations in Kyoto are located on the eastern side or the western side. As I want to guide guests to as many destinations as possible, I make an efficient itinerary and recommend a taxi use to save time. Additionally, I take pictures at various spots and finally share the link to my storage. By doing so, guests can download their favorite pictures from my storage. Please enjoy Kyoto night and day!

Next, we moved to Tsukiji, where we walked around the market and then enjoyed a sushi lunch at a sushi restaurant I had reserved in advance. In addition to sushi, there were various other menu options available, which was very helpful since one of the guests did not care for fish. Even though the weather was not ideal that day, using a taxi allowed for a smooth private guided tour of Kyoto. The guests were returning visitors from North America, and I believe they enjoyed the tour visiting sightseeing spots they had not yet been to. For one of the guests it was a first visit, and although they were quiet, they seemed to enjoy capturing photos with their camera. In particular, the garden at Eikando appeared to be a favorite. At Ginkaku-ji, which is like a moss temple, they took their time admiring the moss-covered garden, and at Kinkaku-ji they slowly gazed at the golden Shariden pavilion. They mentioned having visited Kinkaku-ji before, but said that sightseeing without a guide and sightseeing with a guide were completely different, and that they enjoyed this visit very much, thanking me warmly and saying how glad they were.

After a rather long teaching experience at Japanese college, I converted my career about 6 years ago into working as a tour guide for the tourists visiting Japan.
As my career overseas, I’ve been in the UN and the Japanese Embassy, all in the USA, totaling more than 6 years.
And then I had made a big change in my career from a diplomat to an academic researcher. For that career to achieve, I studied abroad and won a doctorate degree in linguistics from Indiana University and landed a teaching position at college in Japan.
With all these interesting and exciting experiences I’ve made myself ready to enrich your tour and make it both enjoyable and worthwhile.

What Is a Private Day Tour of Okayama and Kurashiki Like? A Licensed Guide's Report At the morning meeting, the guests expressed a wish to visit a morning market, so I accommodated it. They bought muffins there. We visited Okayama Castle and Korakuen Garden, and Korakuen was especially well received. We had an early lunch in the underground area of Okayama Station, where a Japanese-style lunch set was very popular. In Kurashiki, the guests seemed particularly fond of the Bikan Historical Quarter and the Ohara Museum of Art, saying, "Kurashiki was the best. We would love to visit again." It was cloudy in the morning but cleared up to fine weather partway through, which was nice. This was their second visit to Japan; on the previous trip, made 13 years ago, they had visited Tokyo. This time they were visiting Fukuoka, Okayama, and Osaka. They had little interest in shopping and said they enjoyed art museums and contemporary art.

English / Guide in English and German / Guiding areas are in Tokyo, Yokohama and my home town Okayama. (Since I’m based in Tokyo, I might not be able to guide in Okayama, depending on the timing.) My profile in German follows!
First of all, thank you very much for your taking time to have a look at my profile. My name is Naoki Shimono. Naoki would be fine. I’m a certified tour guide in English and German. After long years of work at Japanese electronics manufacturer, always in charge of international marketing, I’m focusing on tour guide and interpreter. As of now, I did tour guide more than 50 times in English and more than 50 times in German. Not only in Tokyo but also other cities, such as Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hakodate, Niigata, Shimizu, Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Naha etc. It is always a big pleasure for me to show around Japan to guests from abroad. I’m looking forward to seeing you in Japan!
