    What's a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Featuring Kappabashi The guests were visitors from North America, booked through a travel agency. Because the booking was made via an agent, advance communication had been limited, so the tour began with a little uncertainty on my part. However, we were able to communicate directly through a messaging app the day before, so the itinerary on the day proceeded smoothly. During the tour, there was a strong request to buy a kitchen knife, so I added Kappabashi to the route on short notice. This put us behind schedule, but the guests were able to find a knife they loved and seemed very satisfied. Along the way, I bought some tamagoyaki and taiyaki for them, and they enjoyed them, saying how delicious they were. When I gave them a pair of chopsticks as a souvenir, they were also very pleased. The tour proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere throughout, and overall I believe the guests were satisfied. A notable stop on the tour was Kappabashi. Kappabashi, often called "Kitchen Town," is a famous shopping street in Tokyo located between Ueno and Asakusa. It is lined with shops selling everything related to cooking and dining, including professional-quality kitchen knives, cookware, tableware, and the remarkably realistic plastic food samples displayed in Japanese restaurant windows. The area is especially popular with both professional chefs and visitors looking for high-quality Japanese knives and unique culinary souvenirs.

    Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Tuna Auction Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Toyosu and Tsukiji The guests were visitors from North America. The group was involved in ranching and the meat business, and they were very interested in the Japanese market. The guests had won a lottery and were able to watch the fresh tuna auction from the special observation floor. Today the number of fresh tuna was larger than usual, and when we went down to the floor the final auction was still in progress, so the guests were able to see the fresh tuna auction in person. They were amazed at the sight of so many fresh tuna lined up in the auction area, and were impressed by how quickly the auction proceeded, with each fresh tuna taking only five to ten seconds. They told me, "Without the guide's explanation, I don't think we would have understood what was going on or how it was proceeding. Thank you for explaining everything so well," which made me very happy as a guide. After the auction, the guests enjoyed sushi at a sushi restaurant and were moved by how delicious it was. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, the guests showed interest in the wholesale business, so I showed them wholesale shops and the traditional stalls that remain outdoors in the outer market (such as Japanese knife shops and oyster specialty stores), and they were very satisfied. A notable stop on the tour was the Tsukiji Outer Market. Located near the former site of the Tsukiji wholesale market, the outer market is a lively district filled with narrow streets lined with shops selling fresh seafood, produce, kitchenware, and prepared foods. It remains a popular destination for visitors wishing to experience Tokyo's rich food culture and to sample a wide variety of local specialties.

After meeting at Himeji Station, I first helped them purchase reserved-seat shinkansen tickets for their return to Osaka after the tour, and then we began. During the tour, we visited Castle View and Himeji Castle. At Himeji Castle, we first received the coupon available through purchasing a digital ticket, and then toured the Nishinomaru Hyakken Corridor, followed by the main keep. After Himeji Castle, we took a break at a tea shop near Koko-en Garden, and after touring Koko-en we returned to Himeji Station to end the tour. The weather was lovely that day and the guests were in great spirits. With so many favorable conditions, we were able to part ways pleasantly at the end of the tour. Often called the "White Heron Castle" for its brilliant white exterior and elegant form, it is widely regarded as the finest surviving example of Japanese castle architecture. I assisted them with purchasing Suica cards at Shimbashi Station, and we traveled by JR to Ueno Station. At the first stops, Tosho-gu Shrine and the five-story pagoda, they took many photos and seemed strongly impressed by the traditional architecture. We continued on to the Great Buddha of Ueno and Kiyomizu Kannon-do Temple, and then went to Ameyoko, where they enjoyed some fruit and strolled through the shopping street. We took the subway to Asakusa, and as we proceeded from Kaminarimon Gate, Nakamise, the five-story pagoda, and the main hall, I explained the history and significance of each. The guests drew omikuji fortunes and tried activities such as target shooting, and seemed to enjoy themselves. We ended the tour at a cafe where we took a break. Unlike the previous days, the temperature was high, so during the tour we walked in the shade as much as possible and drank plenty of water, finishing safely. A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the seventh century, and is one of the most visited religious sites in Japan. Visitors enter through the iconic Kaminarimon Gate with its large red lantern, then pass along the Nakamise shopping street lined with traditional shops leading to the main hall and the five-story pagoda.

    Title: What's a Private Day Tour of West and North Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama, the Monkey Park, and Kinkaku-ji Continuing from the previous day, I guided a group visiting from Oceania. The previous day I had guided them around the Higashiyama area, and today I showed them the western and northern districts of Kyoto. The places they wanted to visit today were the Sagano Bamboo Grove, the Monkey Park, and Kinkaku-ji, so I did not need to consider anywhere else. We took a taxi to a point just before the bamboo grove and walked through Ogura Pond on the way to the grove. The part they enjoyed the most was the Monkey Park, and I believe they stayed inside the park longer than any other group there. Again today the guests did not have lunch, and after Kinkaku-ji I guided them to Nishiki Market, which we had not been able to visit the previous day, and that is where we parted ways.     Title: What Does a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report from Meiji Shrine to Asakusa The guests were a friendly group visiting from North America. The day before, they had explored Shinjuku on their own. Because we arrived at Meiji Shrine early in the morning, there were few people, and we were able to walk around calmly and comfortably. By the time we reached the East Gardens, it had become quite hot, but the guests enjoyed taking photos here and there. At Tsukiji, they tried sea urchin, wagyu beef, tempura soba, and more, and the food court was also very well received. After that, we went to Asakusa, where they were surprised by how crowded the Nakamise shopping street was. On the way back to the hotel, they wanted to stop by Ginza, so I introduced them to places such as Mitsukoshi and Ginza Six before we parted ways. A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the 7th century, and is one of the city's most visited landmarks. The approach to the temple runs through the Nakamise shopping street, a lively lane lined with stalls selling traditional snacks and souvenirs. At the entrance stands the iconic Kaminarimon, or "Thunder Gate," with its massive red lantern, which is one of the most recognizable symbols of Tokyo. The area blends centuries of history with a bustling, festive atmosphere that gives visitors a vivid sense of traditional and contemporary Japan side by side.

    A Private Walking Tour of Kanazawa: Kenrokuen, Higashi Chaya District, and Nagamachi — A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. In Kanazawa they were blessed with clear skies and seemed very pleased, as they mentioned it had been mostly rainy until then. We went from Kanazawa Castle Park to Kenrokuen Garden. Because the hotel was located close to Kanazawa Castle Park, there was no loss of travel time, and I was able to guide them leisurely through both Kanazawa Castle Park and Kenrokuen Garden. For the Higashi Chaya District, I introduced recommended spots while arranging the guidance so that the guests could easily stop by again on their own if interested. During a stroll through the Nagamachi samurai district, I introduced sightseeing spots and dining options before the tour came to an end. A notable stop on the tour was Kenrokuen Garden. Kenrokuen is one of the "Three Great Gardens of Japan" and is located in the heart of Kanazawa. Originally developed as the outer garden of Kanazawa Castle by the ruling Maeda family over many generations, it features expansive ponds, flowing streams, winding paths, teahouses, and carefully placed stones. Its name means "garden combining six attributes," referring to the six qualities considered essential for a perfect garden: spaciousness, seclusion, artificiality, antiquity, water sources, and panoramic views. The garden is especially admired for its seasonal beauty, from plum and cherry blossoms in spring to vivid foliage in autumn and snow-covered pines in winter.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kifune Shrine and Kyoto Imperial Palace Today's guests were a group visiting from Europe who had already been to Tokyo and Hakone, and were planning to continue on to Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Osaka. Because of the recent rainy weather, they unfortunately had not been able to see Mount Fuji. Today, however, the sky was perfectly clear, and it was even a little hot. We first headed to Kifune Shrine, which was not very crowded, and the inn there was just finishing cleaning up its riverside dining platform. We visited all three sections of the shrine: the main shrine, the middle shrine, and the inner shrine. Afterward, we went to a local udon shop near the Kyoto Imperial Palace for lunch, which the guests greatly enjoyed. The Kyoto Imperial Palace was also not very crowded, so we were able to take our time. The guests seemed very interested in the architecture. I believe they had a wonderful time. A notable stop on the tour was Kifune Shrine, located in the mountains north of Kyoto. It is dedicated to the deity of water and is one of the oldest shrines associated with rain and water in Japan. The approach lined with stone lanterns is especially famous, and in the warmer months, riverside dining platforms known as kawadoko are set up over the flowing stream, offering a cool and scenic experience.
