Kyoto in One Day: Sagano & Nishiki Market — Guide Kazz

Title: What's a Private Day Tour of West and North Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama, the Monkey Park, and Kinkaku-ji

Continuing from the previous day, I guided a group visiting from Oceania. The previous day I had guided them around the Higashiyama area, and today I showed them the western and northern districts of Kyoto. The places they wanted to visit today were the Sagano Bamboo Grove, the Monkey Park, and Kinkaku-ji, so I did not need to consider anywhere else. We took a taxi to a point just before the bamboo grove and walked through Ogura Pond on the way to the grove. The part they enjoyed the most was the Monkey Park, and I believe they stayed inside the park longer than any other group there. Again today the guests did not have lunch, and after Kinkaku-ji I guided them to Nishiki Market, which we had not been able to visit the previous day, and that is where we parted ways. A notable stop on the tour was Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, one of Kyoto's most famous temples. Originally built as a retirement villa for a shogun in the late 14th century, it was later converted into a Zen temple. The top two floors are covered in gold leaf, and the pavilion is beautifully reflected in the surrounding pond, making it one of the most photographed sights in all of Japan. The temple grounds and gardens are designed in the classic style of the period and remain a popular destination throughout the seasons.
