    What Can You Do on a Third-Time Private Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, and this was their third visit to Tokyo. I was concerned that the standard course would not work for them, but the tour progressed more smoothly than I had expected. Assuming they had not yet been to Nezu Shrine, I guided them there first, and it was very well received. Even though the space is not very large, there is a lot to explain there, and it is a spot I personally enjoy. At the Imperial Palace, I was able to show them a ceremonial horse-drawn carriage, which was a nice little surprise. Since some of the guests were not fond of raw fish, we had lunch at a food court in Tsukiji. Shinjuku Golden Gai used to give the impression of a nightlife district where almost no shops were open during the daytime, but the time before it gets crowded actually turned out to be convenient for taking photos, and this was also popular with the guests. After explaining the main spots within Kabukicho, we parted ways at the east exit of JR Shinjuku Station.

    I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.

    One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.

    Report: What Is a Private Guided Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like for First-Time Visitors? The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. An okonomiyaki restaurant had been specified in advance by a travel agency, so I made a reservation ahead of time. They had enjoyed it on a previous visit to Hiroshima. Since they had not yet had breakfast, upon arriving in Hiroshima they first had a light meal before moving on, which pushed the schedule back, so the okonomiyaki became a takeout. I was glad that the guests came all the way to Hiroshima and Miyajima during their trip.

    What Is a Private Walking Tour of Kyoto's Fushimi Inari, Gion, and Yasaka Pagoda Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. It was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout. It took some time to finalize the course, which made me a little anxious, but the tour was completed without any particular problems. Since walking at a gentle pace was preferred, we took our time and even included a break to have tea at a café, while visiting Fushimi Inari, Gion, and Yasaka Pagoda at a leisurely pace. The guests were all courteous, and since they had especially hoped to see Yasaka Pagoda, they seemed very satisfied. At the end, as they were planning to take a limited express train the next day, I helped them purchase their tickets and concluded the tour.

    such as the old capital Kyoto with many old temples, Nara, which is well known for vowing deer, and Osaka-the city of gourmet, entertainment and commerce.

    The Kansai area was the center of Japanese culture, as this is the place where the capital of Japan was located in the olden times.
    I was born and raised in a historical city Kobe, which is also in the Kansai area.　The city is famous for its port and old residences
    of merchants from Europe and Asia, as it opened its port for forreign trade about 150 years ago.
    It is also well known for the premium quality beef-Kobe Beef.
    The melting in the mouth texture is what every tourist would like to try. It is also one of the best 3 Japanese sake producing spots.
    Sake’s refined taste goes with not only Japanese traditional quisine, but also various dishes from around the worldaround.
    I am certain of its good match with Kobe beef. Some sake breweries show traditional sake making process, which are intriguing.
    It is also renowned for being home to one of the 3 oldest hot springs in Japan, Arima.The color of the water is gold,
    as it contains a lot of iron. It was frequented by a famous warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi 500 years ago.

    I love my hometown Kobe; however, I also lived in Tokyo for 20 years. So, l know the allure
    of the representative two cities o feastern and western Japan, Tokyo and Osaka.
    As a matter of course, there are many hidden gems in each area, in the northern, middle, or southern Japan.
    For example, Himeji City, which is to the west of Kobe city is renowned for its 400 year old castle. which is a world cultural heritage site.
    It was built by a shogun, the leader of samaurai- feudal warriors and the de facto leader of the nation.
    The original structure of the castle transfers us back to the olden times governed by samurai.
    Though some people believe that they still exist, the class was abolished aobut 150 years ago due to the drastic political reform called “Meiji Restoration”.
    If you would like to, I could take you to the fascilities where you can see authentic samurai’s armor and swords.
    Ninja or secret agents, who served feudal lords, do not exist any more either. A ninja museum in Shiga prefecture was a residence of ninja before.
    It is not rennovated for the service, so you can enjoy the complicated interior with some contraptions to defeat the intruders.

    Japan has distinct four seasons, which makes this country more attractive. Each season has its own attractions.
    Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing, as the climate is mild and you can enjoy beautiful scenery such as cherry blossoms or autumn foliage.
    Between summer and autumn, there is the rainy season which lasts for about a month. This season feartures hydrangeas.
    A historical city Kamakura, where the first samurai government started, is embraced by a serene atomosphere in June, as the combination of the
    old temples and the delicate beauty of hydrangeas in the overcast or rainy weather is the essence of Japanese beauty.

    The southern island Kyushu was also a gate for overseas trade. Okinawa also has its own unique and rich culture, as it was not a part of Japan in the past.

    The beauty of the ocean and the unique culture and food have been captivating the hearts of the people all over the world.

    What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest seemed a little anxious at first, but after I carefully explained the day's plans, they appeared reassured. Since walking quickly was difficult for the guest, we proceeded slowly and took time to rest along the way. At Peace Memorial Park, we visited each of the monuments. At the Atomic Bomb Museum, the guest looked with great interest at the exhibits on the postwar reconstruction. At 13:30, as scheduled, we crossed to Miyajima by high-speed boat. For lunch, the guest enjoyed okonomiyaki on Miyajima, and afterward paid a visit to Itsukushima Shrine. On the way back to the ferry terminal, the guest enjoyed some deep-fried momiji manju and was pleased, saying they were delicious. Our conversation was lively, touching on topics such as the differences between the pension systems of Japan and other regions, and the guest was very happy, remarking that it had been wonderful to be able to talk so thoroughly.

    Title: What's a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo's Local Neighborhoods Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who had first arrived in Japan about two weeks earlier. They began in Tokyo, visiting places such as Asakusa and the Skytree, then traveled to the Kansai region. After touring various parts of Kansai, they returned to Tokyo the previous day, when they explored areas such as Shibuya. They planned to sightsee on their own the following day and would head home the day after. During the pre-tour arrangements, they mentioned they wanted to see a less touristy side of Tokyo, so I had assumed they might have visited Japan several times before. However, since they would be seeing many temples and shrines while touring Kansai, this was the reason for their request. The guests expressed a wish to visit Azabu-Juban, Kagurazaka, Yanesen, and Ameyoko. It was difficult to arrange a route with good access between these areas, but I managed to make it work. At Azabu-Juban, since we arrived early, they were able to buy taiyaki from Naniwaya. For Kagurazaka, a TV program had happened to feature the area recently, which served as a helpful reference. They did not do much shopping, and since they had their meal by snacking along the way in Yanesen, we had time to spare. When I asked what they would like to do, they said they wanted to visit the Imperial Palace, so I guided them there from Tokyo Station. By the time we reached the Tatsumi Yagura watchtower, it was a good point to wrap up, and since they wanted to continue on their own to the East Gardens, I explained their route back and we parted ways.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    What's a Private Fukuoka Cruise Port Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were recently retired visitors from North America. Although it was their first time in Japan, they had already visited Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara. They disembarked earlier than scheduled, and since the weather was fine, we decided to travel by bus instead of the originally planned taxi. In our correspondence before arriving in Fukuoka, the guests had expressed a wish to try a craft-making experience at a traditional crafts hall, so we visited a temple while waiting for the hall to open at 10:00. At the crafts hall, they made accessories using tin. They were very pleased, saying it would be a wonderful memory. Afterward, around the time we visited the Great Buddha at Tochoji Temple, they began to lose energy, and although we walked to Sumiyoshi Shrine near the sumo stable, they felt sleepy and decided to return to the ship to rest. Unfortunately, the tour had to be ended here. It was the first day of a long holiday weekend, and events were being held here and there. Since they were able to take part in an event that is not usually held, I believe they had a good experience.

    Title: What's a Private Tokyo Cruise-Port Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Covering Asakusa, Tsukiji, Shibuya, and Meiji Shrine The guests were from Oceania and were visiting Japan for the first time, arriving by cruise ship. I proposed the itinerary in advance, and the tour proceeded as planned. After giving an overview of Japanese history and explaining Japanese views on religion, I began the tour at Senso-ji Temple. As it was the first day of a three-day weekend, it was already quite crowded even at 11:00. For lunch, the guests enjoyed sushi and tempura at a well-known sushi restaurant in the Tsukiji Outer Market. They had long wanted to see the Shibuya Crossing, but were understandably astonished by the sheer number of people. Just before heading to Meiji Shrine, I learned for the first time that the next day they would disembark from the cruise and fly home from Narita Airport via Taipei. They had received rather unreliable advice, either on the cruise ship or at the terminal, that it would be easy to travel by train from Tokyo Station to Narita Airport. Together with the driver, I explained that "even a Japanese person from a rural area would find it difficult to go to Tokyo Station for the first time, board the Narita Express, and reach Narita Airport. It would be far more difficult for a foreign visitor who cannot speak any Japanese and has no sense of the area. On top of that, they would also need to find somewhere to store their suitcases, making it extremely challenging." After considering various options, I explained that the best route would be to take the Skyliner from Keisei Ueno Station, which is a smaller and more manageable station, to Narita Airport. They then asked me to take them to Keisei Ueno Station before returning to the cruise ship, so they could check the luggage storage and ticket counter. I explained that no extra fee for me would be necessary, but that after 16:30 a taxi charge of 2,500 yen per 30 minutes would apply. They understood and agreed, and we returned to the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal via Keisei Ueno Station. The guests were very grateful, not only for the guiding but also for the help in preparing for the next day. The taxi driver was also very cooperative, and I believe it turned out to be a good tour. The additional taxi charge came to the minimum of 2,500 yen.

    What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour to Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting Japan from Europe and Asia. Originally we had planned to visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple, but since they wanted to see a bamboo grove, we decided to go to Arashiyama and finish at Fushimi Inari. At a bamboo craft shop, they bought a noren curtain. They seemed to thoroughly enjoy Tenryu-ji Temple, the bamboo grove, and Okochi Sanso Villa. At the end, they bought the tofu ice cream that I recommended and enjoyed the ice cream that doesn't fall off. I heard that they had originally become friends because some of the guests lived near the others. The weather was wonderful as well.

    Bye bye smart phone!! Let’s enjoy Japan without bothering to check up your phone all the time with not AI but a local guide like me. Hi, my name is Mimmy. You may think this sounds like a kitten’s name.
    I use this nickname because it sounds cute and easy to remember. However,
    I actually look rounded, a middle aged woman more like a yellow character of M&Mchocolate, which reminds you of my name easily when you see me.
    I was born in Osaka, went to school in Kobe, went to work in Kyoto and married but still live in Osaka. I am a local, native Osakan. My 3 children are all grown up and live separately except one son. Now I live with one son and a husband in suburbs of the Osaka city.
    I like travelling, walking around the town and anything new.
    I got my guide license in 2017 and started guiding after that. I wasn’t able to work during Covid period but start guiding in 2022 again. I guide Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe and have experienced more than100 tours including bus tours.
    I would like to tell you about the itineraries I usually have in each area.
    In Osaka, we usually go to Osaka castle, Shinsekai and Dotonbori Namba area.
    I think most important part you should see is Dotonbori Namba in Osaka.
    This place is vibrant , energetic, full of 3D signs and different from any other place in Japan.
    In Kyoto, we cannot see all famous sightseeing spots in one day.
    It will be better to visit each area respectively. I recommend guests who come to Kyoto first time to visit East area, Kiyomizu Temple>Sannenzaka>Ninenzaka>Ishibeikouji>Yasaka shrine> Gion area. This area has an atmosphere of traditional old Kyoto. The most Kyoto like places which suit Kimono. You can rent Kimono in a lot of places around here.
    The second place I recommend you is West area: Golden temple and Arashiyama area where Bamboo forest , Tenryuji temple, mountains and a river. There are several nice gardens in this area. If you want to enjoy the nature quietly, you
    should come here when it is not crowded (Winter is the most quiet)
    In Nara which used to be a capital even older than Kyoto, we visit Todaiji Temple where a huge Buddha is sitting inside of one of the largest wooden hall and you can play with deer everywhere in Nara. Naramachi: a small town in this area is a local place where small interesting shops are.
    In Kobe, a port city, you can visit Japanese Sake breweries, Herb garden and the top of Mt.Rokko for viewing Kobe city. A small China town is there, too.

    Now I bet you want to leave home to explore somewhere else you do not know.
    Not only going to somewhere else, we can help you to do several experiences: making tea, making Japanese sweet, making Takoyaki(food), wearing Kimono, making food samples, attending a tea ceremony, throwing Shriken like Ninja, Using bow and arrow like Samurai, , , ,
