    What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting from North America. Since the meeting point was set at a Hotel, while on the train heading toward JR Kyoto Station I received a message via a messaging app asking to change the meeting spot to a cafeteria in Gion. I was a little flustered, but I rushed there by taxi from Kyoto Station, so we were able to meet on time without any problems. Coming from a warm climate, the guests found the Japanese winter quite cold and had brought plenty of disposable hand warmers. They mentioned that Japanese hand warmers were of higher quality than the ones back home.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Gion, and Arashiyama The guests were visitors from North America, on their first visit to Japan and Kyoto. I took them to Fushimi Inari, Gion, and Arashiyama. It was drizzling at the start of the tour, but from the afternoon the sky cleared and the sunshine felt warm. One of the guests said they enjoyed the Sogenchi Garden at Tenryu-ji Temple, while another preferred Gion Shirakawa. In front of Gion Minamiza Theater, there was an event for the year-end fire prevention week, and two geisha were taking part in it. The guests were able to see real geisha at just the right moment, and they were both very delighted.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Ueno, Akihabara, and the Imperial Palace The guests were a group visiting Japan, who had already visited the Mount Fuji area including Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Sai. In our messaging exchange before the tour, they had responded that they wished to visit Senso-ji Temple and its surroundings, Tsukiji, the East Gardens, and Meiji Shrine, and had also informed me of a change to their accommodation (which was the meeting point). The change of meeting point was reported through the system. I proposed the itinerary in advance, and the guests agreed to it. At the hotel meet on the day, I proposed some adjustments: instead of Tsukiji, which recommends avoiding visits in December, I would guide them to Ameyoko in Ueno and Akihabara; and instead of the East Gardens, which time would not allow, I would show them the Main Gate and Nijubashi Bridge along with nearby Hibiya Park. The guests happily agreed, and the tour began. The guests had visited Tokyo Disneyland the previous day and had already downloaded and used the Suica app in advance. The Nakamise shopping street in Asakusa was easy to walk through, with few people, as most shops were still preparing to open. After guiding them through the main hall, one of the guests said they wanted a goshuin stamp and took out a goshuin book (which they had purchased at a shrine in the Mount Fuji area), so I guided them to the Yogodo hall. After obtaining the goshuin of the principal image (the Sacred Kannon Bodhisattva), they bought mitarashi dango from a weekend food stall. After that, I guided them through Ameyoko in Ueno while chatting about various things, and then we moved on to Akihabara. The guests both loved anime, and we exchanged one anime title after another, finding common ground. We strolled along Chuo-dori for a while, and when I guided them to the Radio Kaikan, it was already crowded. Next we went to Hibiya Park. Although the ginkgo leaves had fallen, we passed through the park while the autumn foliage was still at its best, and I guided them to the Main Gate of the Imperial Palace and Nijubashi Bridge. I learned they planned to visit Tokyo DisneySea the next day, to join a Mario Kart tour in Shibuya at 3:00 that day, and to visit Osaka (USJ), Kyoto, and Nara from Tuesday. While moving, I also shared recommendations for their upcoming destinations, as well as recommended restaurants and night views in Tokyo through the messaging app. On the way to Meiji Shrine, I asked whether it was alright if the tour might end at around 1:30, and the guests happily agreed. After the visit, they obtained another goshuin, and in order to make it in time for the 2:15 meeting for the Mario Kart tour in Shibuya, I guided them to JR Harajuku Station. We parted ways with smiles and hugs.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like in the School Test Season? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came to Japan from Oceania. They had a very warm and close relationship. One of the guests had visited Japan about twenty years earlier, while the other was visiting for the first time. One of the guests had finished school the previous year and was currently taking a gap year, playing cricket in Europe. It had been a long time since I had heard the term "gap year," and I felt a fresh sense of surprise that this custom continues in English-speaking regions even in the twenty-first century. Partly because of the weak yen, studying abroad or enrolling in overseas universities has become limited to a fortunate few among Japanese students. It is regrettable that global thinking in career planning seems to be decreasing. This period coincides with second-term final exams, so there were almost no school trip students around. Nijo Castle also had hardly any lines today, and we were able to enter right away. At Kiyomizu-dera there were no school trip groups, but many foreign tourists had gathered at the photo spots, so it took some time to take pictures. The photo was taken at Kinkaku-ji.

The guests moved quickly, so the tour proceeded smoothly. The group took many photos together. At the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, there were many questions about history and architecture. In Asakusa, there was no shopping or dining at all, but many photos were taken. They bought snacks at a convenience store and ate them in the vehicle. In Akihabara as well, they simply strolled leisurely, without shopping or games. At Meiji Shrine, they were delighted to see plants that differ from those in their home region. On Takeshita Street they only walked at a relaxed pace, and we parted ways in Shibuya as scheduled.

    What Can You See on a 4-Hour Private Kyoto Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. It was their first time in Japan. On the day of the tour, they came to Kyoto from a hotel near Universal Studios in Osaka, and we met at Kyoto Station. They had taken a local train from Osaka, so I was a little worried about a delayed arrival, but they arrived almost on time, which was a relief. After visiting Nijo Castle and having an okonomiyaki lunch in Gion, I took them to Gion (Gion Shirakawa and Hanamikoji), and Kennin-ji Temple. Everyone in the group said they enjoyed Kennin-ji the most. In particular, one of the guests said they especially liked the talk about "Zen" that I gave at Kennin-ji. It was a short time of only four hours, but I believe they were able to get at least some sense of what makes Kyoto special and its unique charm.

    What's a Private Nagano Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Zenkoji, Joyama Zoo, and Local Soba The guests were a group visiting from North America. The itinerary was left up to me, and the only request was that they wanted to see monkeys, so I guided them mainly around Zenkoji Temple and Joyama Zoo. Since movement was somewhat limited, we were fortunate that the Binzuru Market happened to be held near Zenkoji Temple, which allowed the guests to enjoy a local event unique to the region without having to travel far. They were also interested in food, and they thoroughly enjoyed Shinshu soba. The guests had very good manners, and it was a pleasure to guide such a delightful group.

    Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Kobe Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Harborland, a Sake Museum, and Akashi Kaikyo Bridge The guests were visitors from North America. At Harborland, they took photos of the harbor scenery, strolled along the waterfront, and enjoyed some shopping, after which we visited a sake memorial museum in the Nada district of Kobe. They were very interested in learning about the sake production process. They enjoyed a sake tasting and some ice cream. We then headed to the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. After taking photos of the view from the observation deck and enjoying some tea at a café, they headed off to a restaurant for a Kobe beef dinner. We parted ways at Sannomiya Station.

    Hello. It is very nice to meet you. My name is Etsuko Nakaba. I am based in the Kansai Area, which includes popular sightseeing spots
    such as the old capital Kyoto with many old temples, Nara, which is well known for vowing deer, and Osaka-the city of gourmet, entertainment and commerce.

    The Kansai area was the center of Japanese culture, as this is the place where the capital of Japan was located in the olden times.
    I was born and raised in a historical city Kobe, which is also in the Kansai area.　The city is famous for its port and old residences
    of merchants from Europe and Asia, as it opened its port for forreign trade about 150 years ago.
    It is also well known for the premium quality beef-Kobe Beef.
    The melting in the mouth texture is what every tourist would like to try. It is also one of the best 3 Japanese sake producing spots.
    Sake’s refined taste goes with not only Japanese traditional quisine, but also various dishes from around the worldaround.
    I am certain of its good match with Kobe beef. Some sake breweries show traditional sake making process, which are intriguing.
    It is also renowned for being home to one of the 3 oldest hot springs in Japan, Arima.The color of the water is gold,
    as it contains a lot of iron. It was frequented by a famous warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi 500 years ago.

    I love my hometown Kobe; however, I also lived in Tokyo for 20 years. So, l know the allure
    of the representative two cities o feastern and western Japan, Tokyo and Osaka.
    As a matter of course, there are many hidden gems in each area, in the northern, middle, or southern Japan.
    For example, Himeji City, which is to the west of Kobe city is renowned for its 400 year old castle. which is a world cultural heritage site.
    It was built by a shogun, the leader of samaurai- feudal warriors and the de facto leader of the nation.
    The original structure of the castle transfers us back to the olden times governed by samurai.
    Though some people believe that they still exist, the class was abolished aobut 150 years ago due to the drastic political reform called “Meiji Restoration”.
    If you would like to, I could take you to the fascilities where you can see authentic samurai’s armor and swords.
    Ninja or secret agents, who served feudal lords, do not exist any more either. A ninja museum in Shiga prefecture was a residence of ninja before.
    It is not rennovated for the service, so you can enjoy the complicated interior with some contraptions to defeat the intruders.

    Japan has distinct four seasons, which makes this country more attractive. Each season has its own attractions.
    Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing, as the climate is mild and you can enjoy beautiful scenery such as cherry blossoms or autumn foliage.
    Between summer and autumn, there is the rainy season which lasts for about a month. This season feartures hydrangeas.
    A historical city Kamakura, where the first samurai government started, is embraced by a serene atomosphere in June, as the combination of the
    old temples and the delicate beauty of hydrangeas in the overcast or rainy weather is the essence of Japanese beauty.

    The southern island Kyushu was also a gate for overseas trade. Okinawa also has its own unique and rich culture, as it was not a part of Japan in the past.
    It was an independent country called ” Ryukyu Kingdom.”in the past.
    The beauty of the ocean and the unique culture and food have been captivating the hearts of the people all over the world.

    Like these, Japan is filled with historical and natural beauty.Furthermore, traditional Japanese quisene is an intangible world cultural heritage.
    It would be an honor if I could introduce you even one of them.

    Title: What Is a Private Walking Tour of Central Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The train I took to the tour (a rapid line) experienced a significant delay, which pushed back our start time, but since I had contacted the guests in advance and received their understanding, it did not become a problem. I had headed to the meeting point with plenty of time to spare, but the train was delayed by about 40 minutes and there was no alternative route, so there was nothing I could do. The guests were visitors from North America, and I guided them according to the requests they had provided in advance. The tour proceeded smoothly, and I believe the guests enjoyed it. Also, I visited the Park View Garden at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya for the first time. It offers a sweeping view of Hibiya Park and the Imperial Palace, and perhaps because it is still not widely known, it was uncrowded. I thought it could be a useful hidden viewpoint to use going forward.

    Title: What Is a Private Naoshima Art Island Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They were spending ten days in Japan on a route covering Kyoto, Naoshima, Onomichi, the Shimanami Kaido (cycling), and Tokyo, arriving in Japan after a ten-day trip in Oceania. They came to Naoshima by leaving their Kyoto hotel early in the morning. I was a little surprised to learn that they had taken the Shinkansen to JR Okayama Station and then a bus to Uno Port, since many visitors usually rely on local JR lines or taxis. They seemed able to research everything smoothly on their smartphones and arrive without trouble. When I asked why they had come to Naoshima, they said it was because they love art and a friend had strongly recommended it as a place with wonderful scenery. This is something I hear often, and it reminds me how powerful word of mouth can be. Both were pleasant guests, and when I asked about their work out of curiosity, they told me a little about their business ventures. At the Art House Project, one of the guests suddenly said they wanted to experience complete darkness and really wished to see Minamidera, so we quickly made an online reservation and were glad to be able to see it. This time Naoshima was free of the extraordinary crowds seen during the Setouchi Triennale in October and November or during peak travel season, which was helpful in many ways. The weather was also fine, and I believe the guests enjoyed Naoshima.

I believe I know Takamatsu City and the Kagawa prefecture area very well. If you come to Takamatsu, Kagawa I think you can enjoy your tour with me. I started a Government Licensed Guide in 2019. So, I have been a licensed guide for about 5 years. My favorite destinations are Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsurin Garden, the top of Mt. Yashima and so on. I always show you an itinerary about one month before your tour date, and I will accept any questions, other favorite places you want to visit.
