    What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour of Tsukiji, Yanaka, and Akihabara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from North America who had arrived in Japan the previous night, and it was their first visit to Japan. Their reply about the day's plans finally came the day before, and I learned that from May 30 they would be joining a 12-day group tour that visits Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, and Osaka. At the guests' request, and to avoid overlapping with the places that group tour would cover, today I guided them around Tsukiji Market, Yanaka, and Akihabara. At Tsukiji Market, since one of the guests was not fond of sushi, I guided them to the food court in Tsukiji Market for lunch, where they enjoyed pork and gyoza, while another of the guests happily enjoyed a tekka-don rice bowl. In Tsukiji, I guided them around Tsukiji Market, Namiyoke Shrine, and Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple, which they seemed to find very interesting. I explained the differences between shrines and temples and the ways to worship at each, and they seemed to understand well. Today the temperature rose to about 30 degrees during the day, and when I guided them around Yanaka Ginza and Yanaka Cemetery, they seemed a little tired from the heat. Even so, at Yanaka Ginza they purchased some Japanese tea and tea cups. In Akihabara, I guided them to a large electronics store and an anime goods shop. As some of the guests are interested in Japanese manga, they browsed with great interest, especially looking for souvenir T-shirts at the anime goods shop. Despite the heat, the guests seemed to spend a very meaningful and enjoyable first day of their trip in Japan.

    My name is Nobuo Kokure, and please call me Nobby for short, if you want.
    Let me introduce myself. I was born in Hayama, a beach resort area, Kanagawa prefecture, south of Tokyo. And I’m now living in Saginuma, Kawasaki city.
    When I was a university student, I had the opportunities of doing a home stay with a family In U.S.A., Australia, and England, as a youth exchange student.
    After graduation from the university, I started working at American Life Insurance Company, Japan (Alico, Japan), which is a group member company of AIG, now MetLife Insurance Company. I could have a chance to visit the head office and the field offices of U.S.A., Wilmington in Delaware, New York, Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale in Florida, Los Angeles, while I was working for Alico, Japan (Now, MetLife Insurance company).
    I had been working for MetLife Insurance Company for about 38 years, in total.
    After retiring from the life insurance company, I started working as a tour guide, because I wanted to become a tour guide to introduce culture, history, and manners and customs of Japan in English. It’s so different between my previous job and the guide business, but I like guide business a lot.
    I can meet so many people from all over the world and the guide business has been thriving after the pandemic.
    I have implemented the tour over 240 times, introduced Japan to more than 4900 tourists from 54 countries.

    Not only Tokyo, but I have experienced touring around Nikko, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji & Hakone area, Takayama, Kanazawa, Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima, etc. which are all very famous as a tourist spot in Japan.
    If you go on a tour in Tokyo, you must see and visit Asakusa Sensoji Temple which is the oldest Buddhist Temple in Tokyo with histories and Nakamise Shopping Street where you can buy the souvenirs and try to taste Japanese sweets, such as doll cake which is the sponge cake in various shapes filled with red bean paste and Japanese powdered tea ice cream. Another my recommendation in Tokyo to visit is Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya. Meiji Shrine is one of the biggest shrines in Japan with quiet and peaceful atmosphere and magnificent site.
    Harajuku and Shibuya are both fun to visit for shopping and experience the Shibuya Crossing.
    I usually propose my tentative itinerary and ask if my plan is all right with the customer or not. My hobby is traveling around Japan and foreign countries and going to the gym for exercise.
    I would like to work as a guide as long as possible if I’m in good health and my legs are strong, because I love this job.
    I put my importance on the mind of OMOTENASHI which means sincere hospitality, though safety during the tour takes precedence, number one priority, before anything else.

    What Is a Private Hiroshima Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came from Europe. They had already visited Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka, and were planning to return home soon, and they seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their trip in Japan. The weather was beautiful, and Shukkeien Garden had very few tourists, so it was pleasantly quiet and we could take our time enjoying the lovely scenery. The guests enjoyed observing the fish in the pond and found some crabs, taking photos of them. They also said that the okonomiyaki they tried for the first time was delicious. Although there were groups of students at the Peace Memorial Museum, we managed to see the exhibits. The guests were impressed by the beauty of the Peace Park and its axis of peace. We visited the Children's Peace Monument and the Atomic Bomb Dome before saying goodbye.

    What Is a Private Otaru Walking Tour Like, Including a Sake Brewery Visit? A Licensed Guide's Report While proposing the itinerary, I asked the guests whether they would like to visit a sake brewery where they could observe the sake-making process and enjoy a tasting, and they said they would love to go, so I included it in the itinerary. However, the brewery is located about 2 kilometers from Otaru Station, and since walking that distance can be difficult for some, it usually requires a taxi. On this occasion, the guests seemed completely comfortable with walking, so I was able to guide them through the entire itinerary with peace of mind. At the sake brewery, they were very pleased to experience the sake-making process and to taste a variety of different types of sake.

    What's a Private Walking Tour of Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who had arrived in Japan the previous evening. Beforehand I proposed several possible routes, and they chose a plan that mainly covered Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya on foot. They had each prepared a mobile SUICA and wanted to learn how to use public transportation. The guests had traveled internationally many times and were familiar with foreign travel. They seemed to enjoy trying a variety of dishes at the Japanese and Western breakfast buffet. On the way to Meiji Shrine, I gave an overview of Japanese history and explained how the shrine was established. The way the shrine's forest was created and how it looks today made a particularly strong impression, and the guests talked about wanting to come back and walk here during a quiet time. Along Takeshita Street there were many shops selling character goods from Japan and North America that the guests liked, and they were delighted. For a guest interested in art, I introduced the Ota Memorial Museum of Art. One of the guests mentioned being very fond of the film "Perfect Days," so on the way walking to Shibuya we passed by one of the public restrooms featured in the movie. In Shibuya we crossed the famous scramble crossing, and I guided them to Cyberspace Shibuya in Parco. Finally, for a hands-on lesson in using the subway, we rode the Tokyo Metro.

    What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like from Tokyo by Bullet Train? A Licensed Guide's Report This was a private one-day tour in Kyoto for a group visiting from North America. During our prior communication, they had shared everything with me in advance, including that they would arrive from Tokyo by bullet train, the places they wished to visit, and that they would have dinner around Kyoto Station. Before we parted ways, since some of the guests preferred meat and others preferred sushi, I guided them to a restaurant near Kyoto Station that offers both sushi and Japanese cuisine, so that everyone could enjoy the meal. Later, I received a message saying they were very satisfied.

    I am an experienced guide, who live in Osaka. I have been a Government-Licensed Guide in English since 2018. I have already guided a lot of tourists overseas in Kansai Area, that is, in the vicinity of my prefecture, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Himeji. I am especially good at guiding in Kansai Area with sufficient knowledge of history, culture and transportation. I have guided people ranging from a small group of one or two to a group of 20-50 people in a big bus, that is, a coach. I like delicious food, because Osaka is a city of Kuidaorre, which means that people in Osaka love to eat and never spend too much money on food. Therefore, as an Osakan, I will do my best to explore restaurants which serve most delicious foods in wherever I take to my guests.

    What's a Fast-Paced 4-Hour Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report In the morning the Ginza subway line was suspended, which worried me, but since today's tour was in the afternoon and service had resumed by then, I was relieved. I guided the guests from Asia. This was their first day in Tokyo after two nights each in Osaka and Kyoto. It was quite a unique tour: in advance they told me they wanted to walk quickly, just take photos, and see as many places as possible in four hours, so I planned shorter stays than usual at each site. At a drugstore in Ameyoko they bought some medicine for a mouth ulcer. At Sensoji Temple we only went as far as the Hozomon Gate and simply viewed the main hall from the outside. For some reason we kept using Exit 3 that day, which they found amusing. We took a matcha ice cream break in front of the statue of Kusunoki Masashige. One of the guests' folding umbrellas, which had been used as a parasol, would not close, and just as I was wondering how we would manage on the subway, they said goodbye to it and solved the problem by forcibly bending the frame to fold it up. The highlight was at the First Torii Gate of Meiji Shrine: after taking photos there, when we were about to go inside and they heard it involved a lot of walking, they asked if there were photos of the shrine. When I showed them photos online, they said that would be enough. I laughed with them, saying I had never had guests like this and that they were the fastest guests I had ever had. At the end, I showed them the entrance to Takeshita Street as a famous street—of course just for photos—and although it was before the scheduled end time, they said they wanted me to show them how to get back to the hotel and finish there, so we parted ways at Harajuku Station. It was an unusual tour, but they were bright and pleasant, and I think I was able to proceed just as they wished.

    What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. They were a kind group, and I was grateful that they arrived early for the morning meeting. Compared with peak season, there are fewer international visitors at this time of year. Instead, there has been a noticeable increase in school excursion students. For lunch, the guests requested Western-style food rather than Japanese cuisine, so we went to a Western restaurant near Kinkaku-ji. Although it was a slightly early lunch, we were able to be seated smoothly. Right after that the restaurant began to fill up and became full, so we were lucky. I was glad they enjoyed the lunch and said it was delicious. The guests were surprised to learn that the dragon painting on the sliding doors at Ryoan-ji was created by a former prime minister. I guided them from the Higashiyama area to Yasaka Shrine, where the tour concluded. We used a taxi to travel from Kinkaku-ji to Ryoan-ji. The photo was taken at Ryoan-ji.

    I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people.     What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like from Asakusa to Shibuya? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from North America visiting Japan, who had moved from Kyoto to Tokyo the day before. In Asakusa, they purchased souvenirs such as a paper lantern and a beckoning cat figure along Nakamise Street, and everyone drew "dai-kichi" (great blessing) fortunes at the omikuji! They also took photos enthusiastically. At Tsukiji, they bought green tea, chopsticks, and chopstick rests, and enjoyed large strawberries and candied strawberries. Since they liked sushi, we had sushi for lunch. At Meiji Shrine, they remarked that it was a peaceful and serene place, and everyone visited to pay their respects. They did not seem particularly interested in Takeshita Street. After briefly looking at New Balance, we moved on to Shibuya, took photos at the Hachiko statue, and experienced the Shibuya Crossing. Since they had some places they wanted to visit on their own in Shibuya, we parted ways there. The weather was nice and a little warm, but since we traveled by car, it was comfortable. The driver was very professional and knowledgeable, which made things go smoothly. It was a very polite and courteous group.

    Title: What's a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Roppongi, Meiji Shrine, and the Imperial Palace The guests were visitors from North America, coming to Japan for the first time. They took advantage of a two-week holiday to realize a long-held interest in visiting Japan. One of the guests had visited Japan the previous spring with other members of the group and family, had loved the country, and made this current trip with another member of the group possible. Since their accommodation was in Roppongi, before boarding the subway I guided them through the National Art Center and on to Aoyama Cemetery. I had originally intended only to mention it, but the fresh greenery was beautiful, and one of the guests, who loves nature, requested to visit. I guided them to the Hachiko monument at the grave of Professor Hidesaburo Ueno, who was the owner of the loyal dog Hachiko, and to the foreigners' cemetery — related to the Shibuya Scramble Crossing and the Hachiko statue that the guests had already explored on their own the previous day. Together with the fresh greenery of Aoyama Cemetery, they were very pleased. They also greatly enjoyed the forest of Meiji Shrine for its greenery and solemn atmosphere. The guests each purchased many amulets. Thinking it was the season when irises begin to bloom, I also guided them to the Imperial Garden. There, about one-third of the area was in full bloom with irises, which was very beautiful and delighted the guests. At the Imperial Palace, we viewed the Nijubashi Bridge and Main Gate before passing through Sakuradamon, then took the Yurakucho Line to Kojimachi, the venue for a sushi-making experience class. I handed them over to the staff there and said goodbye.

    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today I guided a group visiting from Europe. They had already visited Hiroshima and Himeji before coming to Kyoto. The weather was perfectly clear and not too hot, making it an ideal day for sightseeing. Neither the Kiyomizu-dera area nor Kinkaku-ji was very crowded, so we were able to explore at a relaxed pace, which was wonderful. They also listened attentively to the detailed explanations. After lunch, we headed to Nijo Castle, which was packed with tour groups, so it was challenging to time my explanations well. Since the guests planned to visit the Arashiyama bamboo grove after this tour, I guided them to Nijojo-mae Station on the subway and we parted ways there. I believe they were very pleased with the day.
