    Title: What's a Private Local Food Tour of Kanazawa Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. The tour was planned around local food and tea culture. After enjoying a matcha experience at Kenrokuen Garden, we had planned to visit the Morihachi Kanazawa Confectionery Mold Museum and the Ohi Museum, but since the guests had not yet been to Kanazawa Castle Park, we changed the plan on short notice to visit Kanazawa Castle Park instead. After that, at Omicho Market they enjoyed grilled eel (unagi kabayaki), skewers of Noto beef and Noto pork, and a tasting comparison of nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) at a sushi restaurant. After having gold-leaf ice cream in the Higashi Chaya District, I guided them to a sake shop where they could sample and compare various types of Japanese sake, and the tour concluded. I believe the guests thoroughly enjoyed the local food. A notable stop on the tour was the Higashi Chaya District in Kanazawa. This historic teahouse district is one of the best-preserved geisha quarters in Japan, lined with traditional wooden machiya buildings that date back to the Edo period. It is especially known for its gold-leaf crafts, as Kanazawa produces the vast majority of Japan's gold leaf, and visitors often enjoy its elegant streets, teahouses, and traditional sweets.

    Title: What Can You See on a Private First-Day Tokyo Orientation Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe who had arrived the day before. One of them had visited Japan two years earlier, while this was a first visit to Japan for the other member of the group. The main purpose of today, their first full day, was to get accustomed to the public transportation system. Since they would be taking a vehicle-based tour tomorrow (it was unclear whether this was a group bus tour or a private car arrangement for an FIT booking), they requested that we skip the major tourist spots. So I first gave them a German-language Tokyo Travel Guide at the observation deck of the Metropolitan Government Building and explained an overview of the city from above. I also explained the history of Tokyo and its religions (Shinto and Buddhism) to help prepare them for their sightseeing from tomorrow onward. Their itinerary for tomorrow apparently includes Meiji Shrine, Senso-ji Temple, and the Imperial Palace (though I'm not sure which part). At this point, one of the guests showed photos from the earlier visit two years ago and asked, "Where is this?" Most of them turned out to be the area around Roppongi Hills and Atago Shrine. I explained these locations using the Tokyo Travel Guide as well. At Koishikawa Korakuen Garden we encountered a light rain, but it soon stopped and caused no trouble. Around the Imperial Palace, I made frequent use of visual aids to explain the historical changes, and I guided them to some hidden historical spots such as the pine pilings of the Marunouchi Building. A notable stop on the tour was Koishikawa Korakuen Garden. It is one of the oldest and most celebrated Japanese gardens in Tokyo, originally created in the early Edo period in the 17th century. The garden beautifully blends Japanese and Chinese landscaping styles, featuring ponds, stone bridges, and seasonal plantings that offer striking scenery throughout the year. It remains a tranquil retreat in the heart of the city and a wonderful place to experience traditional Japanese garden design.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    The guests were visitors from Europe. Before Kyoto they had been to Kanazawa, and after Kyoto they planned to go to Hiroshima. We had exchanged a great deal of correspondence in advance, but the day before, since the guide for the Gion tour had not shown up, they asked to include Gion in the itinerary, so I made a last-minute change to the plan. They had also said an earlier start time would be better, so we changed it to 8:00, but then they said they had not slept well and asked to make it 9:00, so we went back to the original 9:00 start. Although they told me there was no need to overdo it since they would be staying another three days, we completed the itinerary properly. For shopping, at a souvenir shop on the way back from Sanzen-in they bought dog-patterned socks and a figurine of a cat with a moving tail, and at Nishiki Market they bought furikake seasoning. They do not eat meat, so at Nishiki Market they had fish tempura and skewered eel. They asked me to recommend a place for okonomiyaki, so I pointed them to a shop. They said they had learned a great deal. A notable stop on the tour was Sanzen-in Temple. Sanzen-in is a historic temple located in the rural Ohara area in the northern part of Kyoto. It is one of Kyoto's oldest temples and is especially known for its beautiful moss gardens, tranquil atmosphere, and small stone Jizo statues nestled among the greenery. The temple is particularly popular in autumn when the surrounding maple trees turn vivid shades of red and orange, and its peaceful setting offers a calm contrast to the busier central districts of Kyoto.

    Title: What's a Private Nara Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kasuga Taisha and Nara Park The guests were visitors from Oceania. We met as scheduled at JR Nara Station and traveled by city bus to Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Since one of the guests had some difficulty walking, we considered using a taxi, but after discussing it together, we decided to take the bus. At Kasuga Taisha, the sightseeing began only after I answered a wide range of questions, including explanations of Shinto, explanations of Buddhism, the background of the capital being moved from Nara to Kyoto, and the relationship between the emperor and the shogun. The guests were full of curiosity, and the tour involved guiding while answering many questions, but I believe they were able to enjoy today's sightseeing. One unfortunate point was that walking long distances was difficult for one of the guests. I was told that they had walked long distances during their Kyoto sightseeing the previous time, which made their leg sore. A notable stop on the tour was Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara. Kasuga Taisha is one of the most important Shinto shrines in Japan, founded in the 8th century and known for its thousands of bronze and stone lanterns that line the pathways and the shrine buildings. Set within a sacred forest, it has deep connections to Japan's early history and to the deer of Nara, which are considered messengers of the gods and roam freely throughout the surrounding park. The shrine's vermilion architecture and serene wooded setting make it one of the highlights of any visit to Nara.

We began at Tsukiji, where I guided the group through the outer market while explaining the history of Tsukiji, the differences between temples and shrines, matcha, and Japanese knives. They were surprised by how many tourists there were. We then walked to Hamarikyu Gardens, and after explaining its history at the gate, we entered the garden. Inside, the cosmos flowers were in full bloom, which delighted them, and they enjoyed taking photos with the flowers in the background. As we strolled, I explained the tidal pond, the duck hunting grounds, and the teahouse while making a full loop of the garden. We traveled by subway to Asakusa, and after lunch, we passed through the Kaminarimon Gate and Nakamise shopping street, where they seemed impressed by the traditional shopping arcade. After praying at the main hall, we talked about Japanese culture and seasonal events while traveling by subway. At Meiji Shrine, I offered explanations at various points as we walked from the gate along the approach, and we prayed at the main hall. As it began to rain, we rested at a café within the grounds and concluded the tour. A notable stop on the tour was Meiji Shrine, a Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Located in a tranquil forest in central Tokyo, the shrine is surrounded by an expansive wooded area created from trees donated from across Japan. The long approach leading to the main hall passes beneath towering torii gates, offering visitors a peaceful contrast to the busy city nearby.

    What's a Private Kyoto Photography Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. Since one of the guests was keen on photography and had brought excellent camera equipment, I made a special point of guiding them to the best photo spots in each location. At Tenryu-ji Temple, the autumn leaves had just begun to turn, so we were able to spend extra time in the garden. I believe the guests enjoyed taking photographs at each stop. As they decided to finish the tour early and head to Osaka, I concluded the day by directing them to the correct train on the Osaka-bound platform at JR Kyoto Station. A notable stop on the tour was Tenryu-ji Temple in Arashiyama. Tenryu-ji is one of Kyoto's most important Zen temples and is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was founded in the 14th century and is especially famous for its beautiful Sogenchi garden, which was designed to incorporate the surrounding mountains as borrowed scenery. The garden is considered one of the oldest of its kind in Japan and has retained its original form for centuries, making it a particularly rewarding place to visit during the autumn foliage season.

    Title: What's a Private Hakodate Cruise Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania who had previously been to Japan four times. They held great respect for Japan, including its culture, cleanliness, and the politeness of Japanese people. They were interested in the founding and history of Hokkaido, and at Goryokaku they asked many enthusiastic questions and were deeply moved by the scenery. For lunch, we visited a local free market that is even more local than the morning market, but since one of the guests did not have much of an appetite, they only had a little melon. We moved to Motomachi and strolled around the group of churches, but partway through the walk they said they would like to return to the ship, so we headed back. On the way back, they enjoyed the scenery from the car window. A notable stop on the tour was Goryokaku in Hakodate. Goryokaku is a star-shaped fort completed in the 1860s, and it was the first Western-style fortress built in Japan. Its distinctive five-pointed design was inspired by European fortification styles, and today the surrounding area is a popular park known for its history and seasonal beauty, including cherry blossoms in spring. Visitors can climb the nearby observation tower for a panoramic view of the fort's unique shape and the city of Hakodate beyond.
