    What Can You See on a Private Tsukiji, Kappabashi, and Asakusa Walking Tour in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from North America. They had already been sightseeing for several days, so they listed the places they still wanted to visit. From that list, I guided them through Tsukiji, Kappabashi Kitchen Town, and Asakusa, and scheduled the tour to end in front of the Japanese Sword Museum, which we would not have time to guide. The day before, they had joined the Shibuya Toilet Project tour and responded enthusiastically to the architecture of Kengo Kuma. They had also seen the film "Perfect Days." At Kappabashi Kitchen Town, they purchased chopsticks and a kitchen knife and were delighted with them. As a guide, I found it a great pleasure to guide guests who had studied Japan thoroughly and showed such genuine interest.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Tsukiji The guests were a group visiting from North America and Asia. Since they did not have transit IC cards, they purchased tickets with cash each time, and they handled the payments smoothly. Because the walk from Meiji Shrine through Harajuku took longer than expected, we traveled to Tsukiji by splitting into two taxis, and thanks to clear instructions to the taxi drivers, we were able to meet up right away. At the Tsukiji Market, drawn in by the savory aroma, the group enjoyed an "unagi" (eel) lunch, and everyone found it delicious and was very pleased.

    Title: What's a Private Tokyo Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shibuya, Takeshita Street, and Akihabara The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. Throughout the tour, a travel agency was involved as an intermediary, which created some communication challenges. Information about purchasing SUICA/PASMO cards at the airport had not been clearly conveyed. Today we managed with a 24-hour metro pass, but since they would need it going forward, I explained the situation and they purchased an unregistered SUICA card at the inbound specialist counter at Shibuya Station. They plan to visit Mount Fuji the day after next (they mentioned a ropeway and a "volcano," so I believe they meant Hakone), but had no fixed plans for the next day. I provided a Tokyo Travel Guide and explained some possible destinations. Some of the guests wanted to go shopping in Ginza, while others wished they had spent longer on Takeshita Street and planned to return there. Some of the guests were scheduled to join an anime tour arranged through a travel agency near Akihabara Station, so I timed our arrival to get them there. The rest decided to rest at a coffee shop before deciding what to do next, and we parted ways. Some of the guests became very interested in gashapon machines and are likely to enjoy shopping in Akihabara.     I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Title: What Is a Rainy-Day Private Kyoto Tour Like with a Wheelchair? A Licensed Guide's Report It rained heavily from the morning. Although I had sent an email the day before asking for rain preparations to be made, this had not been arranged. The guests were visiting from Europe. They had arrived in Tokyo by cruise ship, come to Kyoto the previous day, and planned to return to Tokyo after today's tour. In the heavy rain, we visited Kinkaku-ji Temple, and then went to Ryoan-ji Temple. There is a wheelchair-accessible route that goes right up to the side of the rock garden, but the path was narrow and the surface was in poor condition, so it was a struggle. Even wearing a rain jacket and holding a folding umbrella, everything below the knees got wet. On top of the heavy rain, there were many school excursion students, and I was unable to secure a taxi from Ryoan-ji by phone. I had a taxi that had come to Ryoan-ji brought around to the back of the office, but since the group was departing for the Middle East the next day, they said they wanted to return to Kyoto Station, so the tour ended partway through. Seats on the bullet train to Tokyo were available, but a wheelchair-accessible seat was difficult to secure, so we ended up with a Nozomi about an hour later. They were pleased overall, but as the rain grew even heavier, I felt it was good that we did not force ourselves to complete the entire itinerary.

Rather than buying the expensive fruit, they seemed more interested in photographing it. At the basement food floor of a department store, they got excited at the prepared food and dessert sections. They bought a bento box and dessert and had lunch on the rooftop of the station building. They also bought many Glico snacks at a convenience store. They were delighted that their goals had been achieved.

    Title: What Is a Rainy-Day Private Tour of Hakone Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Despite rain all day, I spent an enjoyable time with the group, who were very warm and cheerful throughout. Laughter never stopped among them. At Hakone Shrine, I explained the differences between Shinto and Buddhism and their relationship with everyday Japanese life, as well as the proper way to worship, using the actual settings and locations. The guests also tried the practices themselves and were very interested. As they were heading to Kyoto next, they said it was very helpful. At a local specialty shop, they received a hands-on explanation of Yosegi marquetry woodwork and enjoyed trying to open a puzzle box, spending a fun time. Due to the bad weather, the ropeway and the pirate ship were not available, but I believe the guests still fully enjoyed the alternative sightseeing.

    What Is a Private Day Trip from Osaka to Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came on a day trip from Osaka and were fond of walking. There was some concern about the weather, but as forecast, the rain stopped while we were inside the museum and it stayed fine afterwards, which was fortunate. The museum and the Peace Memorial Park were very crowded with school excursion groups, but the guests were not bothered by this and read each explanation very attentively. They also watched the video about the Akatsuki Corps at the memorial hall, and it seemed to move them deeply. At the other historical sites afterwards, they viewed everything carefully and earnestly. Finally, at Shukkeien Garden, the guests enjoyed feeding the animals and relaxed comfortably.

    What Is a Private Kyoto Tour to Kinkaku-ji and Ryoan-ji Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America, returning to Japan after a long time. Originally the plan was to visit Nijo Castle and Gion, but when I met them at their hotel in the morning, they changed their minds and decided to see Kinkaku-ji and Ryoan-ji instead. In line with their wish to travel through the city by train and bus while taking in the scenery, we moved around that way. Today, due to the effects of a typhoon, the Kansai region had heavy rain, and at Kinkaku-ji strolling around was no longer possible, and getting around was difficult, leaving everyone soaked. At Ryoan-ji it was better since we could stay inside the temple buildings. Even so, at the end they thanked me for all my explanations, which was a relief.

    What Does a Private Family Tour of Tokyo Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Akihabara, Meiji Shrine, and Asakusa The group came to Japan for a family trip. Since they were not familiar with Akihabara, I took them there, and then we visited Nijubashi Bridge and Hie Shrine as requested. After that, we went to Meiji Shrine. One of the guests had a strong interest in Japan and asked many questions, such as why the trains and public places are so clean, and why people in Japan are so polite. In Akihabara, one of the guests, who enjoys photography, took pictures. Since they had already visited Omotesando and Shibuya, which were places we had coordinated by email the day before, I removed those from the plan and focused the tour on the western area. Interestingly, they showed little interest in Takeshita Street and only passed through quickly, so I returned from Harajuku to Asakusa (which had not originally been included in the plan) and added it to the sightseeing route.

    What Is a Private Sapporo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were interested in historical things, so they were very pleased with both the Historical Village of Hokkaido and Hokkaido Shrine. The weather was nice and the temperature was perfect for walking outside, so we had a pleasant tour. For the meal, after viewing the seafood, they considered trying fresh seafood at Nijo Market, but in the end they chose a wagyu beef bowl. They also mentioned being interested in Japanese food. When we said goodbye, the guests told me that with some guides they sometimes feel rushed, but today they were able to relax and it was a very good tour.
