    Can You Do a Private Day Tour of Kyoto with a Vegetarian-Friendly Lunch? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. After consulting with the driver, we followed the itinerary described above, and the group was very satisfied. Since one of the guests preferred a vegetarian meal, I considered "Shigetsu" at Tenryu-ji Temple or yudofu (hot tofu), and we had an early lunch. The driver and I also joined the guests at "Yudofu Sagano." Shigetsu at Tenryu-ji was fully booked and we could not get in, and while the expense of 4,400 yen per person was a bit steep, I was glad the guest was satisfied with the vegetarian meal. I made the Kyoto Imperial Palace the final stop of the tour, because it was a location from which the guests could walk back to their accommodation. The hired car dropped the guests off at the Kyoto Imperial Palace and finished its service there, while I guided them around the Kyoto Imperial Palace until 15:00, explained the way back to their accommodation, and then we parted ways.

    Title: What Is a Private Asakusa Tour with a Tea Ceremony Experience Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. The tour included a tea ceremony experience (starting at 10:00) at a cultural venue in Asakusa, and there were no other special requests. I still prepared and presented an itinerary, and confirmed it again at the hotel meeting. Since there were about 30 minutes before the tea ceremony, I had planned to show the guests the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, but walking turned out to be more difficult than expected for one of the guests. When walking from Kuramae Station to the venue after getting off the subway, several rest breaks were needed. Ten minutes before the start, the venue staff guided us to the experience location, which required about a five-minute walk back along the road we had just taken, so I became somewhat concerned about the walking. At the start of the tea ceremony experience (standing-style), the guests were allowed to take photos of themselves, and during the experience I waited outside. The session was shared with three other overseas guests, and perhaps because it was lively, it ended about 20 minutes past the scheduled finish time of 11:00. The guests seemed very satisfied. From there, I guided them over about 15 minutes to Kaminarimon at Senso-ji Temple. We passed through the Nakamise shopping street only for photos rather than stopping, taking the back streets instead. On the way to the Hozomon Gate, the guests bought strawberry candy (finishing two) and small lucky cat figurines as souvenirs for friends. Around this time the temperature was rising quickly and the sunlight was getting stronger, so after showing them the Hozomon Gate, the five-story pagoda, and the main hall, we stopped for lunch at the guests' request. As it was a Wednesday, we waited about 10 minutes before being shown to a seat on the second floor. The guests were unfamiliar with taking off their shoes and the sunken-floor-style seating and were a little regretful, but they said the food was delicious (especially the tonkatsu sauce and sesame sauce), which was a relief. The guests spoke cheerfully throughout, but since one of them was not feeling well due to back pain, after lunch they wished to return to the hotel by taxi to pick up their luggage and head to Haneda Airport's international terminal a bit early. I put them in a taxi in front of the department store in Asakusa, explained the details to the driver, and we parted ways there. They were smiling the whole time, but I reflected that I should have recommended using a taxi from the moment we left the hotel.

    What's a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Harajuku and Takeshita Street The guests were a family visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They had installed the Suica application on their smartphones, which allowed them to travel smoothly between destinations. They were repeatedly amazed by the various animal cafes along Takeshita Street in Harajuku. They were surprised that there was no litter on the ground inside train stations or along the sidewalks in the city, and were a little puzzled that they could not find any trash cans. I explained that the number of trash cans in Japan was significantly reduced following the 1995 Tokyo subway sarin incident, and that as a result, people have developed the habit of carrying their trash home or back to their hotel. They understood and were satisfied with this explanation. They were also very pleased with the Japanese-style bento lunch.

    What Is a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, the Imperial Palace, and Shibuya The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They had previously run a business, which was closing this month, and this trip was to invite some of their long-standing clients. The main purpose of their visit was a 14-day cruise around Japan departing from Yokohama Port starting the next day. (They mentioned they would travel from their hotel to Yokohama Port by taxi.) The night before, they had arrived at Narita and taken a taxi to their hotel, where they had dinner inside the hotel. It was a tour under clear skies in hot and humid weather. The Tsukiji Outer Market was, as expected, very crowded. We walked around slowly, taking it all in. There were questions such as "Do all Tokyo residents buy their fish here?" and "When did this market begin?" We took a leisurely walk around the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. None of the guests climbed up to the former castle keep site, saying it was difficult on their legs. There were questions such as "Why did the site of a castle become the Imperial Palace?", "When was the castle built?", and "Can we go inside the Imperial Palace?" There were also questions such as "Does the Emperor live in here?", "Does the Emperor hold political influence?", and "Are all members of the imperial family wealthy?" There was even a question of "Why did Tokyo become the capital of Japan?" There was a request that "we'd like to eat sushi for lunch," so we went to a sushi restaurant in Hibiya. They enjoyed it while having white wine. At Meiji Shrine, there were questions such as "What are the torii gates for?" and "How does Buddhism differ from Shinto?" One comment was "It's wonderful that there is such a quiet, green place in the heart of the city." Within the shrine grounds, we came across a wedding procession and took photos. Afterwards, we walked along Omotesando to a well-known souvenir store. They spent a lot of time browsing, saying they wanted gifts requested by their grandchildren. We moved on to Shibuya and observed the Scramble Crossing. One comment was "I can't understand why so many people come out here." We took commemorative photos in front of the Hachiko statue. There were comments such as "The whole city is clean. There's no trash on the ground," "You don't see homeless people," "The subway is quiet. Even at the boarding doors, everyone lines up in an orderly way," and "The public restrooms are clean and pleasant." We saw them off at Toranomon Hills Station and parted ways.

    What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya The guests were visitors from North America. One of the guests had visited Japan many times for travel, while it was the first visit for another. The guests had arrived at Haneda earlier and stayed in Nagoya until the previous day, and the rest of the group arrived at Narita Airport the previous night, taking the Narita Express from Narita Airport to Shinjuku. This time they would stay only a short while, planning to head to Hakone and Mount Fuji from the next day, and to return home after coming back to Tokyo. They said, "We would like to try various kinds of Japanese food." It was a tour under warm, almost hot weather. Since the guests were changing their accommodation to a hotel that day, we packed up their luggage and checked out of the current hotel, then first headed to Roppongi. After leaving their luggage at the hotel, we set off again, first to Tsukiji. The Tsukiji Outer Market was extremely crowded. The guests really wanted to try grilled king crab, scallops, and oysters, so they purchased and sampled them. At Meiji Shrine, the guests asked questions such as "What kind of religion is Shinto? How is Buddhism different from Shinto?" and "What does the torii gate signify?" Within the grounds we came across a wedding procession and took photos. The guests commented, "It is wonderful that such a place exists in the heart of the city." We strolled along Takeshita Street, stopping at several shops, as the guests said, "We had heard about it." After that, we moved to Shibuya and had lunch at a sushi restaurant in Shibuya. The guests said, "As expected, sushi eaten in Japan is fresh and delicious." At the scramble crossing, the guests commented, "Why are there so many people here?" We took commemorative photos in front of the Hachiko statue.     What Is a Private Day Tour of Nikko's World Heritage Sites Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests traveled a very long way to visit Japan from a distant region. They were very interested in Japanese history and wished to sightsee in Nikko. They took their time exploring the four facilities of the Nikko World Heritage Site (Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine, Taiyuin, and Rinnoji Temple), and appeared very satisfied. Unfortunately it rained that day, but they were amazed by the fresh green foliage of early summer and the peaks partly veiled in mist, remarking how completely different it was from the natural scenery of their home region. The guests' accommodation was in Shibuya, and since the JR/Tobu limited express trains bound for Nikko departing from Shinjuku run infrequently and are very popular, I purchased the tickets in advance.

    What Is a Private Day Trip from Kyoto to Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private day trip to Nara for a group visiting Japan. The representative of the group was unwell and could not join on the day, so I guided the rest of the group to Nara. To purchase limited express train tickets, the meeting time was changed to 6:45 AM. It rained that day, so I was a little concerned, but everyone was a strong walker and full of energy. After visiting Kasuga Taisha Shrine, we walked from Mizuya Shrine along the foot of Mount Wakakusa and visited Nigatsudo Hall. Because it was so early in the morning, there was no one else around besides us, and the guests thoroughly enjoyed the sacred atmosphere. We walked behind the Great Buddha Hall, and when we reached the entrance to the Great Buddha Hall, we were suddenly met with a wave of people. Next, we strolled through Naramachi. Because it was raining and a weekday, the streets were quiet. The guests were surprised by the migawari-zaru charms and the old traditional houses. After lunch, we wandered around until the train departure time, walking through the Mochiidono shopping street, the Higashimuki shopping street, and so on. We stopped by a gachapon shop and bought some bread at a bakery. The guests mentioned that they travel about twice a year. That day was their last day in Kyoto. I would love for them to visit Kyoto and Nara again. There are no receipts available for buses in Nara.

    What Is a Private Day Trip to Nikko from Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report An email had been sent to the guests with the hotel departure time and information about the limited express train to be used, but it did not reach them. As a result, the Tobu limited express could not be caught in time, and the round trip to Nikko was made using the JR Shinkansen instead. Since the guests held a JR Pass valid for Green Car seating, this turned out well in the end. At a restaurant by Lake Chuzenji, they enjoyed soba noodles and salt-grilled rainbow trout. Blessed with fine weather, they took in the spectacular views of Mount Nantai, Lake Chuzenji, and Kegon Falls from Akechidaira, and enjoyed a walk through the Senjogahara marshland, making for a very satisfying day.

    What Is a Private 2-Day Tokyo Tour Like After a Japan Cruise? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests visited Tokyo for the final two days before returning home, following a cruise around various parts of Japan. Initially, given the unstable weather with rain coming and going, we had agreed on the morning of the tour to cancel the previously planned visit to Shinjuku Gyoen. However, as we walked and talked, I learned that one of the guests was very fond of plants, even growing a cherry tree in the garden of their home. After visiting the Nijubashi Bridge, the rain stopped for a while and there were even occasional glimpses of sunshine, so I took the opportunity to guide the guests to the East Gardens, which feature a Japanese garden. In the iris field of the Ninomaru Garden, magnificent irises were in full bloom, and the guests were deeply moved. They took many photographs. Afterward, they also enjoyed the unique atmosphere of the Yanaka shopping street. They experienced walking across the Shibuya Scramble Crossing as well, and after I saw them off at their hotel and said goodbye, they even sent me an enthusiastic thank-you email right away, still full of excitement. It seems they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
