Kyoto Private Family Tour Report: What Can a Guide Show You on a Rainy Day in Kyoto? There had been some concern about not being able to meet the guests because of an error in the contact number, but we were able to meet successfully and departed by taxi just before 9:00 a.m. It was a private tour for a group visiting Japan. Although it was raining, the guests said they were happy to walk even in the rain, so I guided them through Fushimi Inari Taisha and Kinkaku-ji under umbrellas. For lunch, the guests said they wanted to eat things like skewered chicken, so I took them to Nishiki Market, where they enjoyed tempura and other dishes. With the remaining time, I gave a tour of Shijo Street from the car window.

I am Keiko Ibuki, Goverment-Licensed Guide. I passed National Guide examination and registered in 2015. I started guiding job in 2016. I mainly guide Kansai area, especially Kyoto. From 2016 to 2019, I guided visitors from overseas about 50 days. In 2023, I guided visitors from overseas about 50 days. I passed 2nd grade of Kyoto Tourism and Culture examination in 2020. I passed National Examination for Certified Travel Supervisors in 1997. I can tailor my guided tour to meet your requirements. I would like to make your visit to Japan enjoyable and memorable.

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like in the Rainy Season? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests on this tour were visitors from North America. As it was their first visit to Japan, they thought very carefully about selecting the places to visit in advance. Initially, they had wished to see Nijo Castle, the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Kinkaku-ji, and Gion. However, upon checking, I found that the Kyoto Imperial Palace was closed and could not be visited, so I suggested Arashiyama (the Bamboo Grove, Togetsukyo Bridge, and lunch) as an alternative to the Imperial Palace. Later, they expressed a wish to explore the Higashiyama area, so I proposed a course of Nijo Castle, Nanzen-ji, Eikan-do, the Philosopher's Path, and Ginkaku-ji (all on foot from Nanzen-ji onward). There was no reply to this proposal for some time, and I finally received a response only the day before. The result was that, after taking their time to consider it together, they had decided in the end to go with the original plan that included Arashiyama. It was a little nerve-wracking that the itinerary was not settled until the last minute, but it showed me how much the guests were looking forward to their trip to Kyoto. On the day (July), unfortunately it rained all day, sometimes heavily and sometimes lightly, so conditions were not very good for sightseeing. Even so, I helped them understand the meaning of Japan's rainy season (hot and humid and rather dreary, but a blessing for agriculture, especially rice cultivation), and emphasized that experiencing the rainy season is itself valuable. They commented that thanks to the rain, it was not so crowded and easy to walk around. Both of the guests also had a deep interest in Japanese history and culture, and at Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji they deepened their understanding of the relationship between the emperor and the warrior class during the age of samurai rule, and seemed to take great interest in the architectural styles as well. At Arashiyama, despite the poor conditions of the rain, they thoroughly enjoyed the deepened green of the Bamboo Grove and other sights, and at lunch they were both satisfied with udon, which they loved. Finally, at Gion, Pontocho, and Teramachi Street, as they strolled through the Gion area they learned about the meaning and culture of high-end traditional restaurants, and they were delighted to occasionally encounter maiko. What surprised me was that one of the guests loved Japanese cuisine and even cooked favorite Japanese dishes (such as rice bowls and ramen) at home. Because of this, they said they wanted an easy-to-use kitchen knife, so I introduced a metalware shop on Teramachi Street, where they seemed to find one they liked. Although this tour took place in bad weather, the guests moved quickly and, overall, we proceeded according to the planned itinerary. It was a pleasant tour, and I was glad the guests were satisfied.

Hi, everyone! I’m Norifumi Kamon, a government registered guide interpreter. Please call me “Nori”, or “Kamon-san”.
Let me introdece myself. I was born on April 17th in 1952 in Miyazaki prefecture in Kyushu island. I used to be an English teacher of Osaka Prefectural high school. When I retired from a teacher ten years ago, I decided to get a professional guide license. I wanted to play a role of the bridge between Japanese people and the people from all over the world as a second life of mine. After two years efforts, I finally got the guide license. Since then, I have guided several handreds of foreign people mainly in Kyoto and Nara for about five years except Corona Pandemic period. Almost all the tourists were deeply impressed by the beauty of nature, traditoin, culture, and art of Japan. I can surely help you enjoy and be satisfied with the sightseeing in Japan. And I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.

Title: What's a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Like for First-Time Visitors to Japan? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who have traveled to many places around the world. This was their first visit to Japan. Even before coming, they had developed an interest in various aspects of Japanese culture through an acquaintance and were quite knowledgeable. During the tour, some of the guests actively took part in and enjoyed a variety of sightseeing activities, such as visiting temples and shrines, drawing omikuji fortunes, purifying at the temizuya water basin, and purchasing omamori charms. Had there been more time, they would have liked to try wearing a rental kimono as well. They also thoroughly enjoyed Japanese cuisine. Before heading to Kyoto and Osaka, they asked for my opinion on how to plan the remaining two days in Tokyo, so I suggested several recommended places for them to visit.

Can You Do a Private Family-Friendly Day Tour in Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. The tour focused mainly on topics such as food, Nintendo, a samurai and ninja museum, interesting spots in Osaka, and dinner reservations. While I was explaining about the shogun at Nijo Castle, one of the guests asked why the samurai sitting beside the shogun holding a Japanese sword was a child, and there were many such simple yet sharp questions, which made the tour both enjoyable and educational. The guests were quick-witted and engaging. No expenses were advanced.

Title: What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Tour of Fukagawa and Asakusa? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America attending an international conference. Even though it was their first visit to Japan, they downloaded Suica to their smartphones, which made getting around smooth and easy. At the Fudo temple in Fukagawa, they had an important bag purified during the goma fire ritual and enjoyed the powerful sound of the loud drums and conch shell horns. At the Hachiman shrine, they were amazed by the large portable shrine (mikoshi) and the giant handprints and footprints of sumo wrestlers. In Asakusa, they bought a Japanese knife at a cutlery shop and had it sharpened, and just as they were heading toward Senso-ji Temple, they purchased another knife as a souvenir. They also happily bought plenty of matcha and Yagenbori shichimi togarashi (seven-spice blend). This private tour was arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/). [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) is one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures. Title: What Is a 4-Hour Private Harajuku and Asakusa Walking Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report There were several differences from the original booking. The booking listed four adults, but in reality the group was smaller and included children. One member of the group did not join on the day. It was unclear whether the children's category had not been selected at the time of booking, and it would be helpful if this could be clarified and stated correctly when reserving. From the moment I heard that the guests wanted to visit Harajuku, I sensed that there might be children in the group, and this turned out to be the case. Regarding the schedule, there was some looseness. I had communicated both by prior email and again on the day that the tour would run from 9:00 to 13:00. Since Harajuku is not open early, we visited Meiji Shrine first, but it rained, and this part took about an hour. We also strolled along Takeshita Street without any particular goal, at the request of one of the guests. Perhaps because I had not said that some parts could be skipped if we ran short on time in the morning, they did not want to shop in Shibuya either, but simply wanted to visit a Pokémon store. On the day, I was told that they had reservations for a rickshaw and sumo in Asakusa. I had not been informed of this the night before either. The tour was to end in Asakusa, but we had to search together for where the reception desk was. We finally parted at 13:55. The guests did not mention anything about the extra time. I had intended not to charge for an extra 10 to 20 minutes, but since it stretched to about an hour, I should have put them on the Asakusa Line and ended the tour at Shibuya. I will make sure to confirm the guiding hours properly from now on. I will also be more careful to confirm the exact guiding time going forward, as with a 4-hour course it is important to manage the schedule clearly. The guests were visitors from North America. This was a family group that was not very expressive, and it was a challenging day in terms of feeling a sense of reward as a guide.

Title: What Is a Private Guided Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report On the day of the tour, heavy rain that had begun the previous night led to school closures in Hiroshima City. The JR trains had stopped running in the early morning, but since the local Hiroden streetcars and buses were still operating, I met the guests and adjusted our schedule accordingly. Because I had emailed the guests the day before, I was confident there would be no same-day cancellation. However, around 10 a.m. there was no information available on whether JR had resumed service (phone lines were also down), and since the guests wanted to top up their IC card, we went to the station, confirmed that service had resumed, and then took the train to Miyajima. The guests were interested in the Hiroshima atomic bombing, residual radiation, the mobilization of students for wartime labor, and the paper cranes, and at Miyajima they were interested in the 12th-century shrine architecture and the guardian lion-dog statues. At the Peace Memorial Museum, after giving my usual explanation, I accompanied the guests partway and then let them view the rest on their own. When I asked, "Was there anything about the exhibits or anything else that you had questions about?" they answered, "No. The horror of the atomic bomb came through very clearly," which put me at ease!

Title: What Is a Private Shopping Tour of Harajuku and Shibuya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The group requested a shopping-focused tour in advance, so I took them to shops in Harajuku and Shibuya and they enjoyed plenty of shopping. With the weak yen, shopping and eating around town in Japan seemed especially appealing to them. Since it was quite hot and humid, I made sure to include frequent breaks at cafes so the group would not get tired. Going into this season, staying mindful of hydration and rest is especially important. This private shopping tour in Harajuku and Shibuya was arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides serving all 47 prefectures.

Hello, I’m Yukie Tachibana, national licensed tour guide living in Yokohama with my family. Please call me Yuki. I have been working as a tour guide for 5years mainly around Tokyo, Kanagawa, for example, Hakone, Kamakura, Yokohama and Kawasaki. I have had an experience of attending a lot of foreign visitors from all over the world in both private and group tours for sightseeing and business in one to multi-days. I’m able to arrange the tour for you, so please feel free to ask me your favorite plan in Japan as to spot, food and some activities. I like to see Buddhist statues in temples so I’d like to introduce our history and culture. Also because I like Japanese animation and character, and animals, I can take you to some shops for the animation and animal cafes that are so popular among tourists. Looking forward to seeing you soon and share wonderful time in Japan! Thank you.

Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Tokyo Like, Including Shinjuku and Shimokitazawa? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. Initially I had planned to guide them around Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Harajuku, but they said they would visit Shibuya, Harajuku, and Asakusa on their own. After exchanging several emails about where to go instead, we decided on Shimokitazawa. Starting on foot from their hotel in West Shinjuku, I guided them around the Shinjuku area, and since they wanted to try crane games, I took them to an arcade. After several attempts they managed to win a small plush toy, which was great. Since they did not have IC cards, I helped them purchase one at Shinjuku Station. I had planned lunch after visiting Meiji Shrine, but they said they had eaten a lot at the breakfast buffet and were not hungry yet. So we skipped lunch in Harajuku and headed straight to Shimokitazawa. On the way, while transferring on the Odakyu Line, I introduced them to the transparent restrooms. In Shimokitazawa, we had lunch and then went around vintage clothing shops and general goods stores. It was nice that they were able to buy some clothes at a vintage shop. Since they had a reservation for TeamLab at Azabudai Hills in the evening, I saw them off at the Hibiya Line platform and we parted ways. The forecast for the day was rain all day, but there were periods when it stopped, so we were able to follow the itinerary as planned, which was a relief. With heavy rain on some days recently, I felt that there may be times when I need to change destinations or adapt flexibly depending on the situation.

I’m Yoko Kusumoto, a government lisenced English-speaking guide.
I have been living in Tokyo for more than 20 years, and it’s my pleasure to show you around Tokyo. I recommend Meiji Shrine and Asakusa if you are first time in Japan. I also recommend off-the-beaton path spots like Fukagawa Fudodo and Gotokuji Temple(lucky cat temple).
I was born and brought up in Kamakura, where the first shogun’s government was established. It will be my pleasure to introduce you my hometown as well.

I live with my husband and one teenage son.
I like traveling, flowers, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, and exploring Tokyo.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.
