Tour Itinerary
- 08:15-9:30. Travel to Shibuya
- 09:30-10:00. Sightseeing at Shibuya Scramble Crossing and the Loyal Dog Hachiko statue
- 10-30-12:15. Travel to Meiji Shrine, worship, and rest
- 12:15-13:00. Travel to the Imperial Palace Nijubashi Bridge
- 13:00-13:30 Sightseeing at Nijubashi Bridge, taking photos
- 13:30-14:30. From Nijubashi Bridge, take a taxi to Shimbashi, then to Minato Mirai. Disband at the station
Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Tour to the Imperial Palace Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visitors from North America. A visit to the Imperial Palace had been requested, but since walking was difficult, I had considered several possible access routes. When we met, I explained that the Imperial Palace grounds cannot be viewed from inside, that access is not very convenient, and that it would be hot, but since the request for the Imperial Palace had been made, we conducted the tour heading north from Yokohama in the direction of Shibuya, Harajuku, and then the Imperial Palace. After finishing at the Nijubashi Bridge of the Imperial Palace, one of the guests said, "It's hot, so I'd like to go back to the hotel." Since they preferred to be accompanied rather than find the route back to the hotel on their own, I decided to see them off there. I had originally been thinking of continuing to Asakusa, but judging from the guests' condition, focusing on the western area and ending the tour a little early turned out to be a good thing. (Note: We used a taxi from Nijubashi to Shimbashi, paid for by the guests.)

Your tour guide Kappa is my nickname. Kappa is a traditional, imaginary creature who came into being in Japan over 300 years ago. She is good at swimming, like me, for I like swimming. I would like to make our tour operated smoothly as Kappa does when she swims in the river or pond. Our guide, Kappa-san, modified the typical Hakone tour to accommodate our interests, and is very helpful and knowledgeable. Since the day was very hot (95°F / 35°C) we favored activities that were more shaded or cool, including a walk on a cedar-lined section of the old Tokaido path.

Kappa, our guide met us at the train station and took us all over Kamakura. We saw shrines, the big Buddha, gardens, and the Oceanside! Kappa shared a lot of history about Kamakura, and it was nice to have this background when we were exploring these incredible sites! Highly recommend!

My wife and I were treated to a wonderful walking tour of Tokyo with Kappa. Kappa was very accommodating in designing a tour specifically tailored to our interests. Kappa is a wealth of knowledge regarding the city history, temples and shrine, and Japanese art history. She is a lovely person too. I highly recommend Kappa if you want to learn about Tokyo
