Title: What Is a Family-Friendly Private Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a family group visiting Japan for the first time, arriving from Oceania and North America. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) is one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures. The group had arrived at Narita Airport about a week earlier and traveled directly to the Kansai region, visiting Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara. They then came to Tokyo the previous evening and planned to stay in Tokyo for several days. They mentioned that they would be going to Disneyland the following day. They requested a tour focused on being family-friendly. It was a hot and humid day for the tour. The East Gardens of the Imperial Palace were quite crowded. There were questions such as "When was it built as a castle?" and "Did Edo Castle become the Imperial Palace?" There were also questions such as "Does the Emperor live inside here?", "Does the Emperor have political influence?", and "Who will become the next Emperor?" After that, we went to Tokyo Tower. Everyone went up to the Top Deck and was thrilled by the view of Tokyo. We took a commemorative photo together. They said, "Now I really understand how vast a city Tokyo is." At Meiji Shrine, there were questions such as "What is the purpose of the torii gate?", "Why do Buddhism and Shinto coexist?", and "Do the Shinto priests live within these grounds?" There were also questions such as "Do Japanese people respect the Emperor and the Imperial family?" and "Why did the Meiji Restoration happen?" They made comments such as "The city is clean and quiet," "No one talks loudly on the trains," "There are really so many subway trains," and "We don't see any homeless people." They said the Tokyo subway is difficult to transfer between, so I saw them off at Shintomicho Station, where we parted ways.

    Guiding career:
Guide work started in July 2022. A guide focused on FIT compliance.
    FY2022 results: 17 cases, FY2023 results: 97
Destinations: Various places in Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura and Nikko
As a recent group travel record, in October 2023, we have a track record of guiding a group of 33 people from Singapore to Narita Airport transfer plus sightseeing in Tokyo.
    Self-introduction:
In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
I am a certified CPA in the United States.
In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

Title: What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. The tour was scheduled to start with an 8:00 meeting, but the group came down to the lobby a little later than planned. One of the guests had caught a cold before arriving in Japan and coughed from time to time. The weather was fine today, with the temperature rising to 34 degrees. The heat and humidity seemed to be hard on the group. After discussing options in Arashiyama, we decided to visit Yasaka Pagoda instead of the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Gion, which had originally been planned. After walking from Yasaka Pagoda to Yasaka Shrine, the group expressed a wish to return to their hotel, so we took a city bus and I saw them off at Shijo Subway Station, ending the tour. The photo was taken at Fushimi Inari when some of the guests were writing their wishes on fox-shaped ema plaques.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. Since they were staying at a hotel in Asakusa, before their arrival in Japan I suggested that they explore Asakusa on their own, and we agreed on the itinerary above. As they had arrived just the previous day from a cooler climate and the heat of the day was demanding, I contacted them on the morning of the tour to ask them to prepare water and hats. During the tour, while keeping an eye on how everyone was doing, we took breaks at the Ninomaru rest area in the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace and at the terrace in the forest of Meiji Shrine. Since it was their first time in Japan and they planned to travel around the country on their own for two weeks from the following day, I explained the geography of Tokyo and the history of Japan both before departure and along the way. As some of the guests were active in business, they were interested in the economy and in how Japanese people work, and asked many questions, which made the tour enjoyable. In Omotesando, Takeshita Street, and Shibuya, since some of the group wanted to return on the following days, I gave advice on how to get around from the next day onward. On hot days, I think it is better to accept some overtime than to risk anyone collapsing.

Hello! My name is Hideki Maruyama. I was born in Osaka and raised in the Greater Tokyo area. I obtained my National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter Certificate in February 2016.
I spent 23 years working at a leading Japanese automotive company, including 7 years posted overseas. I then worked for a German premium automotive manufacturer for 13 years, followed by 6 years as an advisor to a British energy company. Through these roles at global corporations, I developed and refined key skills such as:
    1. Cross-cultural communication
    2. A deep understanding of business elites and affluent customers
    3. The ability to deliver impactful and impressive presentations in English
In addition to my regular duties, I often served as an interpreter for top executives during meetings with foreign government officials. I also had opportunities to introduce aspects of Japan—such as our national character and consumer preferences—to leadership teams in both the German and British companies.
As a tour guide, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding guests from a wide range of countries especially after the pandemic, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Laos, Turkey, Jordan, Kenya and Israel.
When guiding, I always keep in mind to go beyond what guests can find on social media or ChatGPT. I believe my professional background allows me to offer unique insights, and I am encouraged when guests mention this in their reviews

Can You Do a Private Tokyo Tour with Limited Walking? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Asakusa, and Ginza The guests were visitors from North America. I had heard beforehand that one of the guests had a knee condition, and just before the tour one of the guests sprained an ankle, arriving with a small folding chair that was used as a walking aid. Because of this, we traveled mostly by taxi and only used the subway once, at the end when returning to the Hotel. Since no treatment had been done, we stopped at a drugstore to buy a compress, and I applied it for them. At Meiji Shrine, when I explained the ema votive plaques, one of the guests became interested and dedicated one. On Takeshita Street, the guests enjoyed a strawberry candy and brown sugar tapioca. For lunch, the guests said they wanted ramen, so I took them to a soba and ramen shop in Asakusa, and they were very satisfied. When I showed them how to find good restaurants using Google Maps, they were amazed at just how many ramen shops there were. After having ice cream in Asakusa, we had planned to visit the Imperial Palace, but since walking seemed difficult, I took them to the basement food floor of a department store in Ginza, where they tasted and purchased matcha. I had many nice conversations with the guests, and at the end they told me it had been a very good tour.

What Is a Private Day Tour of Kurashiki and Okayama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report At the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, the guests enjoyed shopping and strolling, and they viewed the exhibits at the folk craft museum with great interest. They looked at Bizen ware shops, denim products, and toys, and they had peach ice cream at a local shop, saying it was very delicious. They liked the Bizen ware very much and said it was very beautiful, but they gave up on buying it because it seemed difficult to carry home. They said the stroll was very enjoyable and that, although it was hot, they were able to enjoy Korakuen Garden. Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari and Kinkaku-ji The group had just arrived in Japan the day before, and unfortunately the weather was extremely hot, so they already appeared quite tired by the time we reached Fushimi Inari Taisha. I paced the tour by taking an ice cream break and regularly checking how everyone was holding up. After lunch, when we stepped outside the restaurant it was very hot, so we took a taxi to Kinkaku-ji. At Kinkaku-ji, one of the guests was busy taking photos, while the others seemed to have reached their limit in the heat. Since the group asked to end the tour at their hotel, I suggested taking the bus back so they could sit down and rest, even though it would take a little longer, and we returned by bus. They mentioned that another guest was planning to visit Japan and said they would love for me to guide them as well, and they seemed very satisfied with the tour.

I should have given up guiding. During the Covid, I’ve read many books and made my own materials to explain Japanese culture, history, etc. I love guiding because the guests expand my horizon all the time and let me know their own country and culture, etc. It is really important for us all to know each other and respect each other to make this world peace. Thank you for coming to Japan! Let’s enjoy Japan together!

What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kinkaku-ji, Fushimi Inari, and Sanjusangendo The guests were a group from South America enjoying a trip to Japan. Despite the light rain, we visited their requested sites of Kinkaku-ji, Fushimi Inari, and Sanjusangendo. At Kinkaku-ji, the rain happened to stop and a soft light broke through, and the guests marveled at the wonderful contrast between the Golden Pavilion reflected on Kyokochi Pond and Mount Kinugasa incorporated as borrowed scenery. At Fushimi Inari, we talked about Japanese mythology and religion. There was also a conversation about how ancient people in South America worshipped nature in a similar way, which gave us a sense of shared connection. After that, since some of the guests were tired and one was not feeling well in the stomach, we bought some stomach medicine at a pharmacy, took a short rest, and then moved on to Sanjusangendo. The guests all agreed that the atmosphere created by the building of Sanjusangendo, the thousand-armed Kannon statues, and the National Treasure statues of the 28 attendant deities was the most memorable part of the day.

I have been enjoying working as a tour guide since 2016 after retired from a manufacturing company in which I worked at the overseas department. So I experienced a lot of business with customers in Europe, Asia, Australia, and USA where my three years of living and working at the subsidiary company with my family was the most amazing experience of my life. What Is a Private Tokyo and Yokohama Cruise Port Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private Tokyo tour for guests arriving in Japan on a cruise. The tour was originally scheduled to start in Tokyo, but it was changed to begin at the Yokohama Osanbashi Pier, and the start time was moved up by one hour, so I woke at 5:00 a.m. and headed to Yokohama for the start of the tour. The guests came off the cruise ship almost on schedule, and because they had large luggage, we split into three taxis and headed to Haneda Airport, where we dropped off the bags at luggage storage before continuing to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. They mentioned it was the first clear blue sky they had seen during their two-week cruise around the seas near Japan. The guests enjoyed the contrast between the traditional architecture of Edo Castle and the surrounding modern buildings, and the tour concluded with a return to the airport.

What's a Private Day Tour of Tokyo Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report on Akihabara and Hamarikyu Gardens The guests visiting from North America. One of them had visited Japan for about a week before the pandemic. After spending some time in North America, the guests arrived in Japan two days ago. They mentioned that they had already spent four hours at a large electronics store in Shinjuku the previous day, but when we entered the even larger electronics store in Akihabara during today's tour, their shopping enthusiasm was rekindled, and they purchased a wristwatch from a Japanese manufacturer, following on from the day before. The guests also had a strong interest in cars and were curious about the various cars we came across while walking through the city. Another among the guests was interested in flowers, so we visited Hamarikyu Gardens as requested, and they eagerly took photos of hydrangeas and other blossoms.

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Osaka Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guide started in heavy rain from the morning. First, we visited Kuromon Market. As the guests had skipped breakfast, they enjoyed sushi, sashimi, wagyu beef, eel, candied strawberries, and taiyaki. At Shitennoji Temple, they were amazed by the realism and beauty of the Nio statues, the Four Heavenly Kings statues, and the Kuse Kannon statue. When I explained that the five-story pagoda has an earthquake-resistant design, they were surprised. At Osaka Castle, since they had just watched the film "Shogun," they checked out the castle, the moat, the stone walls, and the giant stones, and made it all the way up to the top of the main tower on the 8th floor. For lunch, at my recommendation, they ordered okonomiyaki, takoyaki, and simmered beef tendon. They watched the okonomiyaki being made and said the taste was the best! Finally, at the request of some of the guests, I guided them to a shop selling character goods and similar places.
