    What's a Private Family Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Shibuya, and Meiji Shrine The guests were a group visiting from Europe. They had come to Japan for a family trip. Based on their prior requests made through an agent, we started the tour at Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Despite it being morning, they were surprised by the rising temperature and the large crowds, but they seemed to enjoy the traditional Japanese atmosphere, and everyone happily tried drawing "omikuji" fortunes. We then received a sudden request from one of the guests to buy a kitchen knife, so we headed to Kappabashi, where they purchased a favorite knife and seemed very satisfied. At the Shibuya crossing, the guests experienced a crowded intersection unlike anything seen in Europe. Afterward, we went to Meiji Shrine, where I explained Shinto, its influence on Japanese culture, and the differences between shrines and temples. Since they would be traveling to Hakone and various places in the Kansai region after Tokyo, they were pleased to gain this background knowledge in advance. Some of the guests appeared to have studied Japan well beforehand, actively asking questions and comparing the imperial families of Japan and Europe, which made for lively conversation. Finally, since they wanted to enjoy shopping in Harajuku, we ended the tour at this point.

    What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Toshogu Shrine and Kanmangafuchi The guests were a group who wished to visit Japanese shrines and temples centered on Toshogu Shrine, and also wanted to see Kanmangafuchi Abyss. They expressed a desire to learn about Tokugawa Ieyasu, as well as more broadly about Japanese culture and history, and even about religions such as Shinto and Buddhism. For this reason, I guided them to the main relevant sights and explained things in relatively detail. The guests were people who wanted to learn deeply about Japan from the very beginning, so they listened to my explanations with great enthusiasm. Toshogu Shrine truly seemed to captivate them, and they appeared very moved. The Jizo statues at Kanmangafuchi Abyss are also rare treasures rarely seen overseas, so they viewed them with great interest. For lunch, at my suggestion, they enjoyed a yuba (tofu skin) set meal at a purely traditional Japanese-style restaurant. The day seemed to pass in the blink of an eye, and I believe the guests were fully satisfied.

    Title: What's a Private Car Tour of Tokyo Like With a Licensed Guide? A Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Akihabara The guests were a group visiting from North America, on a private car tour. On the first day, they explored Shibuya, Harajuku, and other areas using the subway. Their trip was part of a longer journey, continuing on to Kyoto, Osaka, and then other destinations abroad. The plan was to return to the hotel at the end, but since one of the guests wanted to visit a bouldering gym in Akihabara after the tour, we adjusted the itinerary to finish in Akihabara. At Tsukiji, they enjoyed strawberry daifuku, wagyu, tuna sushi, tamagoyaki, onigiri, and other foods, and bought several folding umbrellas as souvenirs. At Senso-ji Temple, they drew omikuji fortunes, resulting in two "great blessing," two "blessing," and three "curse." Since it was a Saturday and there were several of them, I recommended making a lunch reservation, and we went to a beef tongue restaurant that one of the guests had found on social media. One of the guests was a smoker and located a smoking area on their own after lunch. It was not their first time in Japan, and although Meiji Shrine was a revisit, they appreciated its calm atmosphere within the forest. The road back to Akihabara was congested, but we arrived within the expected time. Perhaps because it was the first day of a three-day holiday weekend, there was a line to enter Radio Kaikan, and the interior was more crowded than usual. We visited several shops, and although 15 minutes remained, the guests said that since the rest was just shopping, we could finish there, and we parted ways.

    What Is a Private Family Tour of Tokyo Like in French? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, a Maid Cafe, and Harajuku This was a private guided tour conducted in French for a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. Since some of the guests communicated mainly in French while others used mainly English, I guided primarily in French, occasionally mixing in English. Based on the interviews conducted through prior email correspondence, I researched the group's makeup and interests, and proposed a program designed to keep the group entertained. The group had only arrived in Japan around midday the previous day, and due to the long-distance travel, jet lag, and the intense summer heat, some of the guests appeared tired and restless from the morning. As they were planning to stay for about a week, I shared various tips for coping with the heat and had them purchase one handheld cooling fan to try out before we began the tour in earnest. At Senso-ji Temple, I guided the group to a shop specializing in lucky cat (maneki-neko) goods and treated them to shaved ice, doing my best to lift the group's spirits. I had made a reservation at a maid cafe, and when I guided the group there, their eyes lit up with delight, and the rest of the group happily watched and enjoyed the experience as well. In Harajuku, we walked briefly along Takeshita Street and confirmed their route back. After that, the guests enjoyed the rest of the day on their own.

    What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America who had arrived for their first trip to Japan the previous night. They seemed to have some acquaintances here, who had picked them up at the airport the night before and taken them to Shibuya after they checked in. Because it was late, they had returned without seeing much. Their accommodation was an Airbnb, and since the building could not be identified, we met at a nearby convenience store instead. Thunderstorms were forecast for the day, so I was concerned, but although there was a little rain at our first stop in Shibuya, the rest of the itinerary only had the sound of thunder without any actual rain. They had eaten a good breakfast, so they only had a soft serve ice cream at the Forest Terrace of Meiji Jingu and a melon bread at Nakamise, but since there was time before their 17:00 Skytree reservation, they planned to eat at Solamachi. From the next day they would be exploring on their own, so I handed them a Tokyo Travel Guide and metro/JR route maps, and explained the transportation network and other sightseeing spots. One of the guests took an interest in the Mipig Cafe on Takeshita Street and said they would return. They also wanted to visit Gotokuji, so I explained the route from Higashi-Shinjuku to Meiji-jingumae to Gotokuji. After three days of sightseeing in Tokyo, they were on a 20-day summer holiday trip that also included the Kansai area, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Sapporo, and a climb of Mount Fuji. They also mentioned that they would visit HISUI Tokyo, which I had introduced to them.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like During Gion Matsuri? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe. It was the day of the Gion Matsuri front festival and their hotel was near Shijo, so we viewed some of the festival floats before heading to Fushimi Inari. As it was 37 degrees, I lent out a portable fan and we proceeded with the tour while taking breaks as needed.     What Is a Private Kyoto Arashiyama and Sagano Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. They came to Kyoto after arriving in Osaka via Asia. Through the travel agency, the only stated request I had received was a bamboo grove, and since the tour was titled Arashiyama and Sagano, I planned a route walking down from Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple into the Arashiyama area. When we met, I confirmed the details of the itinerary, but it seemed they had not researched it in much depth. I had initially set the final destination as the Monkey Park, but as it was an extremely hot day and they showed signs of tiredness from walking, after Tenryu-ji Temple I asked whether they would like to go to the Monkey Park or to Nishiki Market in the central area, and they chose Nishiki Market, so we finished at the entrance to Nishiki Market. Since we started early, I asked whether they would like to have lunch during the tour, but they said they would not, so we skipped lunch. One of the guests was collecting goshuin (temple seal stamps), so we obtained four during the tour.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Asakusa The guests were a very friendly group visiting from North America. Everyone had downloaded Suica, but there was a small incident because one of the guests had exited the Oedo Line the previous day without tapping out, so the card could not be used at Shinjuku Station. We got off at JR Yoyogi Station and had the previous day's fare deducted at the Oedo Line Yoyogi Station. They commented that Japan's transportation system is convenient but complex. After Meiji Shrine, we did some shopping on Takeshita Street and then headed to Shibuya and Asakusa. Since they had requested yakitori, we had lunch at a yakitori restaurant and then visited Nakamise and Senso-ji Temple, where they shopped and took photos and had a wonderful time. As they had a dinner reservation in Ginza, I helped them order a photo-print cafe latte at a cafe and we said goodbye. There was a small incident, but it was an enjoyable tour.

    Can You Do a Private Kyoto Day Tour During Gion Matsuri? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting from North America. Some of the guests had previously lived in Matsumoto City, and on this trip they visited Tokyo, Matsumoto, and Kanazawa. Because it was during the Yoiyama period before the main Gion Matsuri procession, the other sightseeing spots were actually less crowded, which worked out well. The guests seemed very interested in the Buddhist statues at Sanjusangendo and in a memorial service that happened to be taking place there. At Ryoanji, they took their time to fully enjoy the dry landscape garden. Kinkakuji was also uncrowded, making it a great spot for photos, and the guests were delighted to be able to take as many pictures as they liked. The garden at Ginkakuji was also relatively quiet, allowing everyone to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. The temperature in Kyoto today rose to 38 degrees, and the guests understandably seemed quite tired by the end.

    Title: What Does a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyosumi Garden, Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya At 10:30 I waited at the hotel but could not find the guests, and it turned out they were staying at a different hotel with a similar name that had "Premium" added to it, so I quickly headed to the other hotel and met up with them. We traveled by subway to Kiyosumi Garden and strolled through the grounds. The guests were deeply impressed by the magnificent Japanese garden set in the middle of the city. On the way, we stopped at the Studio Ghibli shop at Oshiage Station and did some shopping. After that, we moved to Asakusa and had chicken katsu for lunch at a restaurant, which the guests thoroughly enjoyed and were very pleased with. After lunch, at the culture and tourism center, I explained the origins of Asakusa and the surrounding buildings, and we walked from Kaminarimon through the Nakamise shopping street. Despite the very high temperature and humidity that made walking difficult, the guests were impressed by the traditional shops and enjoyed strolling around, even trying their luck with omikuji fortune slips. After paying our respects at the main hall, we headed by subway to Meiji Shrine, and along the way we talked about Japanese culture and other topics. At Meiji Shrine, as we walked along the approach, I explained the great torii gate, the display of sake barrels, and the masugata, and we paid our respects at the main shrine. Afterward, the guests enjoyed shopping as we walked around the area in front of Harajuku Station and along Takeshita Street. Finally, we traveled by subway to Shibuya, took photos at the Hachiko statue and the scramble crossing, and then concluded the tour.
