    What Is a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo's Shibamata, Yanaka, Shinjuku, and Harajuku Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group of three guests visiting from North America. The itinerary paired contrasting areas: Shibamata and the Nezu-Yanaka district in the first half, and Shinjuku and Harajuku in the second half. Since they had already toured Kyoto with a guide and had a certain amount of background knowledge, I shared a lot of information in a question-and-answer format, partly to confirm and build upon what they already knew. When I asked questions, they would answer while recalling, saying "Well, let me see…," smiling with delight when they got it right, and listening carefully to understand when it was new information. One of the guests had studied Japanese at university for two years, and the group showed great interest in everything, including Japanese culture and history. Of all the places we visited, the carvings at Shibamata Taishakuten received the highest praise. At first they weren't taking photos, so when I said "It's fine to take pictures," they ended up photographing every single carving. The absence of color apparently gave off a calm atmosphere, and they rated it highly as "a temple to my taste." As an unusual question, they asked "Why are the edges of the building painted white?" I couldn't answer, so I immediately asked the ticket window staff, who said it was for insect repellent (though when I looked it up at home, it turned out to be for corrosion prevention). They were also very curious that the building is made of Japanese cypress and the carvings of zelkova wood, and why that was the case. The Suikei-en garden viewed from the traditional Japanese house was also well received as splendid, though the garden at Yamamoto-tei, ranked third in a U.S. ranking, may not have impressed them as much (perhaps because they had just seen Suikei-en). Still, when we took a break and sat on the tatami, for some reason two of the guests persevered in the formal seiza kneeling position. After that, they were startled by an emergency earthquake alert during lunch, purchased a special autumn goshuin seal stamp at Nezu Shrine, happily bought a yukata at a kimono shop charging 1 yen per gram at Yanaka Ginza, laughed at the movements of the 3D cat in Kabukicho, were delighted by the Godzilla Head performance, admired the wonderful view of Omotesando from Harakado, and finally collected the station stamp at Harajuku Station (I apologized for forgetting to get one at Nippori Station), ending the tour. At the host club billboard advertisement in Kabukicho, I used my usual line, "Which host is your favorite?" and while one of the guests was seriously trying to decide, another guest offered a nice bit of support, saying "No, that's not it! It's him, right!" In this way, I was able to spend a fun full day together with this close-knit group of three.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, and Nishiki Market The guests were visiting from Oceania. Before the tour began, they mentioned that one of them felt slightly under the weather and that we might need to cut the tour short partway through, so we started with that in mind. It turned out to be a tour with some concern, but even at the lively, crowded Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and along the approach path, there were no problems at all, and I believe the guests enjoyed themselves right to the end. On Sannen-zaka slope, at a shop selling preserved plums, I recommended pickled plums as being good for the throat, and the guests tried a sample and purchased some. I then guided them to Nishiki Market, where the tour concluded. A notable stop on the tour was Fushimi Inari Shrine, one of Kyoto's most famous sites, dedicated to Inari, the deity of rice and prosperity. It is known for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form winding pathways up the sacred Mount Inari. Visitors can walk through these iconic tunnels of gates, which have stood as a place of worship for centuries and remain one of the most photographed and beloved landmarks in all of Japan.

    **Tour Title:** What Is a Private Day Tour of Tokyo Like for First-Time and Returning Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. They had arrived the previous day. Some of the group had been to Japan before, while another member was visiting for the first time. One member of the group was taking part in an activity group and had gone for a run near a hotel in the morning to attend a meeting. They mentioned they would run somewhere in central Tokyo the next day and in Kyoto on Sunday. This time the group had around twenty participants, whereas on a previous occasion there had been more than forty. They did not go into further detail about the group. The other members of the group did not take part in the running. They appeared to be involved in research related to plants and trees, and they were very impressed by the forest of Meiji Shrine. They asked whether there was a botanical garden nearby, and I explained that Jindai Botanical Gardens was a little far, so instead I suggested Shinjuku Gyoen and explained how to get there. A notable stop on the tour was Meiji Shrine. Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Shibuya, Tokyo, dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. It is surrounded by a vast man-made forest of around 100,000 trees donated from across Japan when the shrine was established in the early twentieth century. The tranquil forested grounds offer a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city and are especially appreciated by visitors interested in nature and traditional Japanese culture.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

They told me they had met one another on a ferry while traveling around Japan. It was a very hot day. Since the Imperial Palace and the East Gardens were closed, I took them to the Outer Garden and Nijubashi Bridge. We started walking from the Hotel, but we stopped several times along the way, and as we talked about the history from Edo to Tokyo, it took more time than expected. The reason for this visit was to ride the subway, so we took the subway to Meiji-Jingumae. At Meiji Shrine, I took plenty of time to explain things. As they were quite tired, we proceeded while taking breaks. At Shinjuku Gyoen they were very delighted. We parted at Shinjuku Station, and everyone was very pleased. A notable stop on the tour was Meiji Shrine. Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in a vast forested area in the center of Tokyo, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. The shrine was established in 1920 and is surrounded by a man-made forest of around 100,000 trees donated from across Japan. Visitors pass through large wooden torii gates and walk along tree-lined paths leading to the main hall, offering a peaceful retreat from the busy surrounding districts of Harajuku and Shibuya. It remains one of Tokyo's most visited shrines, especially during New Year celebrations.

The weather was a perfect clear autumn day, ideal for the tour. Everyone seemed to especially enjoy Fushimi Inari, but Chishaku-in was also highly appreciated, which made it worthwhile to add it to the tour. I was greatly impressed that the younger members of the group understood English very well. A notable stop on the tour was Fushimi Inari Taisha. Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of Kyoto's most famous Shinto shrines, dedicated to Inari, the deity of rice and prosperity. It is renowned for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form winding paths up the sacred Mount Inari. The shrine was founded in the 8th century and remains one of the most visited sites in Kyoto. Visitors can walk through the tunnels of torii gates, each donated by individuals or businesses praying for success, and enjoy scenic views of the city along the mountain trails.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe, with one visiting Japan for the first time. They had not received my email, so we were unable to have a preliminary meeting beforehand, but they entrusted the planning to me on the day, and we proceeded with the tour following the above itinerary. Both were calm and friendly, so I was able to guide them while enjoying some pleasant, personal conversation along the way. They viewed each destination with great interest. Before moving on to Gion, the guests seemed to have grown hungry, so we wrapped up the stroll through Gion a little early and ended the tour, accompanying them as far as the entrance of Nishiki Market, where we parted ways. A notable stop on the tour was Gion, Kyoto's most famous geisha district.     Title: What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nijo Castle, Sanjusangendo, and Fushimi Inari I guided a group visiting from North America. At Nijo Castle, the guests were amazed by the beauty of the painted screens, and after asking questions about the painters, they even searched for more information on their own. At Sanjusangendo, they were struck by the spectacular sight of over a thousand Kannon statues lined up, and took their time to appreciate the view slowly. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, it was relatively uncrowded despite being daytime, so we were fortunate to be able to stroll leisurely. At the Omokaru-ishi stone and the Nekoagari-no-matsu pine, everyone in the group enjoyed their own experiences, and one of the guests drew a character illustration on a fox-shaped votive plaque and dedicated it. One of the guests had researched Japanese culture before coming to Japan and told me they are currently reading novels by Seishi Yokomizo. The guests showed great interest at every place we visited and openly expressed their emotion and joy, making it a very rewarding tour for me as a guide. A notable stop on the tour was Fushimi Inari Taisha, a famous Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari, the deity of rice and prosperity. It is renowned for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form winding paths up the sacred Mount Inari. The shrine is also known for its many fox statues, as foxes are considered messengers of Inari, and visitors often enjoy climbing the trails through the tunnels of gates.

    What's a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Nanzen-ji, and Shoren-in I guided the guests, who were visiting from North America. First, we visited Fushimi Inari Taisha at their request, but it was quite crowded, which seemed to surprise them. After that, we visited Nanzen-ji Temple, which I had recommended, and they told me, "It's rich in nature, and this is exactly the kind of place we wanted to visit. Thank you." The grounds were relatively uncrowded, so they were able to slowly enjoy the charm of Nanzen-ji. Next, we visited Shoren-in, where they thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful garden. When I told them that the bell in the garden could be rung freely, they both actually rang it and looked delighted. Finally, I guided them to a ramen restaurant in Gion to conclude the tour. At the end, they offered to take a photo together, which suggested they had enjoyed the tour. A notable stop on the tour was Nanzen-ji Temple. Nanzen-ji is one of the most important Zen Buddhist temples in Kyoto and serves as the head temple of the Rinzai sect's Nanzen-ji school. The temple is especially known for its massive Sanmon gate and its tranquil grounds, which include a striking red-brick aqueduct built during the Meiji era. Surrounded by lush greenery, Nanzen-ji offers a peaceful atmosphere that allows visitors to appreciate traditional Japanese architecture and garden design away from the busier tourist sites.

    Title: What Is a Private One-Day Hakone Tour Like from Gora? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America. Some of the guests were on their second visit to Japan, while others were visiting for the first time. This time, they were traveling in Japan for an extended trip. After staying in Tokyo, they had come to Hakone the previous evening. From the next day onward, they planned to travel to Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka, Okayama, and Hiroshima, before returning to Tokyo and flying home. They said, "This is our first time in Hakone. We would love to see Mount Fuji and enjoy the hot springs." The weather was clear, but clouds had spread over Mount Fuji, so unfortunately we were not able to see it. We met at Gora Station and first headed to the Hakone Open-Air Museum. In the car, I explained the history and characteristics of Hakone. I explained the origins and current state of the Hakone Open-Air Museum, and we strolled slowly through the grounds. They said they were looking forward to the Picasso Pavilion. The guests admired the sculptures attentively, and at the Picasso Pavilion they spent more time than expected, viewing the works closely and taking photographs. We returned to Gora Station and headed to Owakudani via Sounzan. The line to board the cable car was extremely long, and more than 30 minutes passed after we joined it. I explained the origins of Hakone, its history as a hot spring and summer resort area, and an overview and history of Owakudani. There were questions such as, "Is Owakudani an active volcano? Has it ever erupted?" and "Is Mount Fuji also an active volcano? When did it erupt?" They purchased and tasted the famous "black eggs." We then took the ropeway to Togendai Port. After a short rest at the rest area, we boarded the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise. Here too, there was a very long line before boarding. I explained the history and current state of Lake Ashi. It was a little chilly in the light rain, but we went up to the top observation deck. We arrived at Motohakone Port. As they requested lunch, we went to Bakery & Table. Afterward, we walked to Hakone Shrine. There were questions about the history of Hakone Shrine and what Shinto is. We transferred between the Hakone Tozan Bus and the Hakone Tozan Railway to return to Gora. They commented, "Everywhere in Japan, the towns are clean. There is no litter on the ground," and "Tokyo is very crowded, but Hakone has a lot of greenery and feels calming." I was reminded once again that Hakone in autumn is extremely crowded. We parted ways at Gora Station.

    Self-introduction:
    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.

    Title: What Is a Private Day Tour of Kamakura Like with a Licensed Guide? A Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from North America. The meeting point was Kamakura Station at 8:30, but on the way there by taxi from their Hotel in Tokyo, there was an issue that required them to return to the Hotel to change clothes, so I received a message that they would be about 30 minutes late. We had originally planned to take the bus from the station to Kotoku-in, so I suggested that they continue directly to Kotoku-in by taxi, and I took the bus there alone. The roads were congested, so in the end they arrived at 10:00. They immediately used the diaper-changing table in the restroom at Kotoku-in and got ready. For safety reasons, we did not climb inside the Great Buddha but viewed it from behind. At Hasedera, the group walked around for a while. Upon arrival, they apologized sincerely, saying they had not expected the taxi to take so long and were sorry to have kept me waiting, but I made sure to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Along the way, they enjoyed ice cream and pumpkin dorayaki, and also took in the beautiful temple scenery. A notable stop on the tour was Hasedera Temple in Kamakura. Hasedera is a famous Buddhist temple known for its towering wooden statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, which is one of the largest wooden statues in Japan. The temple grounds feature beautiful seasonal gardens, a scenic observation point overlooking Sagami Bay, and winding pathways lined with greenery and statues. It is one of Kamakura's most beloved temples, offering visitors both spiritual atmosphere and natural beauty throughout the year.
