Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Hakone Like After Kyoto and Osaka? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from Europe and came to Hakone after Kyoto and Osaka. Perhaps because of this, they seemed to love the lush green scenery of Hakone. Mount Fuji was not visible that day, but since they had seen it from the Shinkansen the day before, I asked for their understanding. Because breakfast had been a thoroughly traditional Japanese meal, some of the guests preferred not to have a Japanese lunch and were very happy with a hot dog instead. We had a toast with beer. The highlight was the trick box (karakuri box) from Maruyama Bussan; after the presentation, they purchased one as a souvenir. They opened it right away and tried solving it themselves. At the shrine, the checkpoint, and the cedar avenue, they enjoyed experiencing Japanese culture and the atmosphere of the Edo period.

I am Hiroki Morikawa :Hiro:, English guide living with my wife ,just a hop skip and jump from Hakone, Kamakura, Tokyo and the Mt. Fuji.
I am a friendly grandfather of 4 grandchildren.
I would love to help you enjoy Japan, using my 3 strong points.
First: I am used to dealing with any kind of matters. I have experienced various situations in the 40 years of my working life.
Second: I am good at making a friendly atmosphere between you and local people to help you enjoy Japan. I was raised in western Japan, studied in northern Japan and now live in central Japan. So I know various local cultures and dialects to communicate with a wide variety of people.
Third: I can explain things from a technical point of view.
For example, how the Great Buddha was constructed, because I am a master of engineering graduated from Hokkaido University.
Please enjoy Japan with me. See you soon!!

Kyoto in One Day: Kiyomizu-dera Temple & Ginkaku-ji Temple

    Tour Itinerary

    • 7:00 Meet with customer
    • 7:00-8:00 Travel (Kintetsu train; Toji → Kyoto, City bus; Kyoto Station → Gojozaka)
    • 8:00-9:10 Visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple
    • 9:10-9:30 Travel (Taxi; Kiyomizu-dera → Nijojo-mae)
    • 9:30-10:40 Visit Nijo Castle
    • 10:40-11:00 Travel (Subway; Nijojo-mae → Keage)
    • 11:00-11:45 Visit Nanzen-ji Temple
    • 11:45-12:00 Travel (Taxi; Nanzen-ji → Ginkaku-ji)
    • 12:00-12:45 Visit Ginkaku-ji Temple
    • The tour ended after visiting Ginkaku-ji Temple. After that, we took the customer to a restaurant (Ginkaku Hachiyoshi) and said goodbye.

What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. It was everyone's first time in Kyoto. I took them to Kiyomizu-dera, Nijo Castle, Nanzen-ji, and Ginkaku-ji. (The tour took place in an intense heat wave of 37.6°C.) Originally, the plan was to visit Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, and Nijo Castle, but since the guests had visited Kinkaku-ji and Fushimi Inari the previous day, I quickly rearranged the program to include Nanzen-ji and Ginkaku-ji instead. Because the tour took place in extreme heat, the guests requested to travel by taxi, so we switched to taxis for portions of the route that would have required long walks. The guests seemed especially fond of the wall paintings at Nijo Castle. I think visiting Ginkaku-ji was also worthwhile, as it allowed for a comparison with Kinkaku-ji, which they had seen the day before.

Title: What's a 4-Hour Private Walking Tour of Kanazawa Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were on their first family trip to Japan, visiting from Europe. Because the Hotel is located somewhat inconveniently away from Kanazawa Station, the Hotel operates a shuttle bus to Kanazawa Station every 30 minutes. Unless the guests request a taxi, I usually use the 9:15 departure bus. Since it is impossible to visit all of the destinations requested by the local travel agency (Higashi Chaya District, Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle Park, and the Nagamachi Samurai District area) in detail within a 4-hour tour, I explain the key points on-site in the Higashi Chaya District and suggest that the guests visit again on their own in the afternoon if needed. There was not much time to spare, but I believe the guests were satisfied.

Can You Do a Family-Friendly Private Tour of Osaka Castle and a River Cruise? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Because I wanted to choose places the whole group could enjoy, I planned a tour of Osaka Castle and the Aqua Liner river cruise. We were able to meet on time at the hotel, but since the guests wanted to purchase transit cards, we went to the ticket office first. The Aqua Liner is an approximately one-hour cruise departing from Osaka Castle Park, and it was very well received. At Osaka Castle, the guests climbed all the way to the top and enjoyed the view. We returned to the station by electric car, and finally I took photos for them in front of the Glico sign in Dotonbori before we parted ways.

What Can You See on a Private Kyoto Day Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Gion, and Nijo Castle The guests were visitors from North America on a trip to Japan. The desired destinations had not been decided until the day of the tour, but before departure they settled on Fushimi Inari, the Gion area, Nijo Castle, and To-ji Temple. Because of the intense summer heat and some mobility concerns within the group, we started the tour with the understanding that we would remain flexible and adapt to the situation as we went along. At Fushimi Inari, we visited the Senbon Torii and the bamboo grove, but as the guests seemed a little tired, we decided to see the Gion area from inside a taxi. After visiting Nijo Castle, the guests wished to take a relaxed lunch, so we had lunch at an izakaya at Kyoto Station. After enjoying some beer and sake and cooling off, the guests decided to skip the visit to To-ji Temple and head back to Osaka. The tour ended a little earlier than planned, but I believe the guests enjoyed themselves.

Title: What's a Private Harajuku Walking Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. At home, they eat rice twice a week for dinner, using a rice cooker. The guests were enthusiastic fans of Japan, and this trip had been a long-held dream. Although it was their first trip to Japan, they said it would certainly not be their last. One of the guests had tried udon at a university cafeteria and really wanted to eat authentic udon, so I took the group to an udon restaurant at a shopping complex, where they exclaimed "Yummy!" again and again. As big fans of Japan, the guests said they could spend a whole day in Harajuku without getting bored. With shopping at the Harry Potter museum, a lifestyle goods shop, a hundred-yen store, and a character goods store, we easily went over an hour past the planned schedule, but when the guests are happy, the guide is happy too. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it in time for the sale of the beckoning cat figurines at Gotokuji, as sales ended at 3:00 p.m., but the guests seemed thoroughly satisfied. Tour Itinerary

    • 10:30 Meet up at the hotel ➡ 10:40 Coffee break at a Nikko carving shop ➡ 11:00 Stroll along Lake Chuzenji ➡ 11:25~11:50 Sightseeing at Kegon Falls ➡ 11:50~12:30 Lunch (soba) ➡ 13:30~14:45 Sightseeing at Toshogu Shrine ➡ 14:45~15:05 Sightseeing at Rinnoji Temple (including the Sorinto pillar) ➡ 15:15~15:40 Break at a sweets shop ➡ 16:30 Return to the hotel and disband

Because it was the final day of the guests' trip in Japan, and they appeared quite tired after walking around Kyoto during the recent extreme heat, I paid close attention to their condition. Since one of the guests had a spinal condition (I believe it was spinal stenosis), I kept an eye on how they were doing while taking breaks, and with their agreement, I shortened the visit to Toshogu Shrine (skipping the inner shrine) so as not to put strain on their body. As it was the start of the summer holidays and also the middle of a three-day weekend, I anticipated large crowds and expected things to take longer, so I brought along a foldable portable chair in case of an emergency. Fortunately, we did not need to use it. The weather was cloudy with little direct sunlight, which was a great help. This tour made me reflect that guiding in Japan during this season really calls for small preparations such as cooling towels and portable parasols.

I am more than happy to take you to attractive tourism resources scattered in Nikko. I will prepare for your trip enough to satisfy your requests and provide you with the memorable tour. When I was a company employee, I lived abroad for 5 years in Los Angeles, 11 and a half years in Washington D.C. and 2 and half years in Brussels. Despite 19 year long stay abroad, I remain charmed by Japanese things, such as culture, custom, spirit, martial art etc. I am glad if I can be of help you understand Japan as well as Nikko through my guide. I am interested in Japanese martial arts: I own the third grade in Japanese archery, known as Kyudo and I have passed a certification examination (1st grade) for Sumo wrestling conducted by the Japanese Sumo Promoting Association.

No requested destinations had been shared before the day of the tour, but they expressed a wish to visit the Bamboo Grove and the Monkey Park, Kinkaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera, and Fushimi Inari. Since the guests said they did not mind the intense heat, we started the tour with a possible two-hour extension in mind. Because breakfast ran a little late, the tour began at 10:30. At Iwatayama Monkey Park, the guests went up to the summit on their own, which helped conserve some energy, but a tour of more than eight hours in the extreme heat was quite demanding. The guests had no trouble at all and enjoyed the day thoroughly.

What Is a 4-Hour Private Tour of Shiogama and Matsushima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who had traveled to Japan several times before, though this was their first time in Sendai. When I asked where they were from and they answered a region in North America, I mentioned that my town is a sister city with a place in the same area, and they said, "We know it!" — and that broke the ice. Since they loved the sea, their request was to visit the fish market in Shiogama, take the Matsushima sightseeing cruise, and explore two or three islands if possible. As it was a 4-hour tour, I suggested taking a taxi from the station to the market and from the market to the boat pier to save as much time as possible, and they agreed. On the day of the tour, the market and the pier were bustling with preparations for the eve of the Shiogama Minato Festival. Although there was no tuna landing at the market that day, they seemed intrigued when I explained that it was the site of the first tuna auction before shipment to Toyosu. They also looked with interest at unusual local seafood unique to Miyagi, such as hoya (sea pineapple). At the pier of Marine Gate Shiogama, the ornate ceremonial boat for the next day's Minato Festival was moored, so we took photos with the vividly decorated boat in the background. The interior of the Matsushima sightseeing boat was air-conditioned, so the guests relaxed comfortably without going out onto the deck. After the bustle of Godaido, we strolled around Oshima Island, where they asked about the caves and the history of Matsushima. Since I had told them in advance that this itinerary would bring us to the 4-hour mark at Oshima, I confirmed the location of Matsushima-Kaigan Station and handed them a map of Sendai and Matsushima. They mentioned they would like to explore a little more and asked if I could recommend somewhere for lunch in Matsushima, so I introduced Nihachiya, a restaurant where you can enjoy oysters, grilled seafood, and handmade soba. They were intelligent guests who were also well-versed in matters concerning Japanese universities.

What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Day Tour of Asakusa, Akihabara, and Meiji Shrine? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was decent, though it turned hot with strong sunshine from early afternoon. After meeting the guests at the Hotel, I helped them install a Welcome Suica, and we started the tour. In Asakusa, after seeing the main sights, the guests mentioned they wanted to try purple sweet potato ice cream from a shop they had seen on social media, so I took them there. They were delighted. In Akihabara, we browsed various shops but did not make any purchases. The plan was to finish after guiding them along Takeshita Street in Harajuku, but they requested to see the back streets of Harajuku, and further asked to be taken to Meiji Shrine, so I changed the itinerary. Despite the heat, perhaps because it was an auspicious day, there was a wedding procession, which the guests were very happy to see. The tour ended near the shrine entrance. I received a tip.
