Osaka in Half a Day: at Shitenno-ji Temple & at Kuromon Market

    Tour Itinerary

    • 09:15 Meet at Swissotel Nankai Osaka
    • 10:00 at Osaka Castle (exterior only)
    • 11:45 at Shitenno-ji Temple
    • 13:15 at Kuromon Market
    • 14:00 Dismiss at Kuromon Market

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Osaka Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of three visiting Japan. The tour was originally scheduled to start at 09:00, but was later changed to 09:30 at the guests' request; however, possibly due to a misunderstanding, they were unable to meet at 09:00. When I asked the reception to check, I was told they were not in their room, and the phone number on the confirmation form was incorrect and would not connect. I was finally able to reach them by email, and after successfully meeting up, we started the tour late. The temperature was again very high today, so we frequently took in fluids. Some of the guests seemed tired and did not appear to be very interested in each spot, so they often rested in the shade or on benches. At Osaka Castle, they bought souvenirs at the nearby "Miraiza" and enjoyed drinks and shaved ice. Since Dotonbori, which was originally included, had already been visited the previous evening, I quickly changed the plan to Kuromon Market instead. They enjoyed samples of roasted chestnuts, black bean tea, pickles, and dried fruit, and purchased many souvenirs as well. At a popular seafood shop, they ordered sea urchin, eel, crab, and pufferfish, and we parted ways there.

    Dear my guests,

This is (Mr.) Yama, greeting from Kobe, Japan.
I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
and pleasant time with you today. I hope I can come here again and name you as our guide”, which is my great pleasure. Moreover, I would be
great honored if they say “I like Japan now thanks to you”.

Looking forward to meeting you soon here.

They headed to Osanbashi Pier, where the cruise ship was docked, by the taxi reserved in the morning (15:40).

What Is a Private Kamakura Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests had arrived in Japan the previous night and were set to begin a cruise trip that evening, making for a busy schedule. It was the first visit to Japan for the entire group. Everyone was very interested in cats and cat-themed goods, and shopping for kimono seemed to be more important to them than sightseeing. After the Great Buddha, we headed to Hasedera Temple, but the group found the hot and humid weather, so different from their home region in North America, quite exhausting. Since the group wished to skip the Hasedera Temple grounds, I changed the plan: after taking photos at the front, we rested at a cool Japanese-style restaurant, which also served as an introduction to Japanese culture. Then we went to Komachi-dori Street. Even in the heat, everyone enjoyed shopping for Japanese goods here, and once they had regained their energy, we returned on a cool train.

What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Owakudani, the Ropeway, and Old Tokaido Hiking The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America. In the initial planning, the itinerary was to ride the ropeway at Owakudani, take the pirate ship, and then head to the Hakone Open-Air Museum by bus. However, after lunch, we passed along the old Tokaido cedar avenue, and the group especially enjoyed it, expressing that they would rather skip the museum and go hiking. Since the whole group agreed, we decided to walk along the old Tokaido stone-paved road toward the Amazake Chaya teahouse. The guests were very pleased with this, taking photos along the way and observing the moss-covered path as we made our way to the Amazake Chaya teahouse. There, they enjoyed cold amazake. On this trip, we followed a route that was not part of the original plan, yet we managed to stay within the time frame and the entire group was very happy, so I felt it turned out extremely well.

I registered as a national guide in February 2015 and began working as an interpreter guide in 2019. I have been guiding throughout Tokyo (I was born and raised in Setagaya and went to elementary and junior high school in Aoyama, Minato-ku. I am familiar with sightseeing spots and gourmet food in this area, including Shibuya), and I now live in Kanagawa (Yokohama where I have lived more than 30 years, and Kamakura, Odawara, Hakone)
I worked for the Japanese branch of an American advertising company for over 30 years and, thus, have deep knowledge of marketing and branding.
My hobbies are travel (domestic and international) and bicycling (I have participated in the Tour de Okinawa citizens’ race every year since 2017. I ride approx. 7,000 kilometers a year). When traveling in Japan, I enjoy traditional crafts, local products, food, and sake from each region. I am also active in a band as a third hobby, performing live once a year for ten years.
As a guide, I mainly guide small groups (about 4-5 people), where I can communicate more closely and politely with them, rather than large groups.
My activity aims to deepen the understanding of Japanese traditional culture and the Japanese people among foreign visitors and to make a small contribution to making Japan the number one country to revisit in their hearts.

Title: What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report from Owakudani to Motohakone The guests' accommodation was directly connected to Sounzan Station by a dedicated elevator, so there was no need to worry about shuttle services, which made things very convenient. Thanks to this, we made smooth progress to Motohakone Port. In recent Hakone tours, many guests give up on lining up after seeing the queue in front of the Peace Torii Gate, but this time it was still before noon and the line was relatively short, so the guests wished to take photos in front of the gate. Even though it was less crowded than usual, the wait still took more than 40 minutes. As is always the case, whether or not the guests wish to take photos here makes a big difference to how the rest of the day proceeds. I had assumed I would see the guests off at the hotel in Sounzan at the end, but since they said they wanted to do some shopping around Hakone-Yumoto Station, I explained how to return to the hotel by train and then we parted ways.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. They had already visited various places in Japan, including Tokyo and Hiroshima. Today there were relatively few people around, and it was comfortable with occasional cloudy skies. At Nijo Castle there were many large tour groups, but the guests were able to fully enjoy the beauty of the Japanese garden. I guided them from Gion's Hanamikoji to Yasui Konpiragu Shrine and the Yasaka Pagoda, and I believe the guests, who love photography, seemed very satisfied. Kiyomizu-dera Temple also had relatively few visitors, so I think the guests were able to enjoy it to the fullest.

Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Tour of Arashiyama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Europe who came to Kyoto after traveling through Osaka, Nara, and Hiroshima. They said that the day before they had enjoyed visiting Kiyomizu-dera and watching the Yamahoko Junko procession of the Gion Festival. However, they mentioned that the sites were crowded with sightseers and travelers, and that they were surprised by the intense heat, a sudden evening shower, and lightning. Today's tour was a walk through Arashiyama, where we explored the World Heritage temple buildings of Tenryu-ji, Zen Buddhism, the garden, and the bamboo grove. They were especially moved by the Sogenchi Garden as viewed from the Great Abbot's Hall (Ohojo) of Tenryu-ji. We also talked about Japanese views on religion and the aesthetic sense of "wabi-sabi." As they walked through the densely growing bamboo grove and felt a breeze that seemed to suddenly lower the temperature, they enjoyed a mysterious sensation.

What Is a Private Summer Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived in Japan from Europe. Since the temperature back home was around 22°C at this time of year, I proposed an itinerary today that would let us walk in the shade as much as possible to avoid the strong sunshine. The guests were aware that these days not only some people but a wider range of visitors use parasols in Japan. We borrowed an umbrella from the hotel concierge that could also be used as a parasol, and started the tour. In places where the sun beat down, the parasol was used very effectively. Today, using a SUICA card purchased at the station concierge, the guests bought drinks from vending machines several times to stay hydrated.

Title: What's a Private Aomori Cruise Port Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from North America who were making their first trip to Japan and spent time in Aomori, the final port of call on their cruise. On this private tour with [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), we visited Seiryuji Temple, the Nebuta Museum "WA RASSE," the fresh food market in the Auga basement for lunch, and the Sannai-Maruyama archaeological site. At an apple shop in front of Aomori Station, the guests enjoyed Sun Fuji apples and apple juice, commenting on the wonderfully pure flavor. When I asked what they would like for lunch, I suggested a seafood rice bowl or Aomori niboshi (dried sardine) ramen. The guests replied that, including Hakodate the day before, they had already had seafood rice bowls at each port, and that they would prefer a lunch made with local Aomori ingredients. I proposed a boxed lunch featuring Aomori ingredients at a local Aomori eatery, and the guests were delighted at the idea of trying local Aomori food. I took them to a boxed lunch shop I often visit. The daily set lunch included freshwater clam miso soup, rice, salmon flakes, rolled omelette, cowpeas, pickled radish, chicken, macaroni salad, and more. The rice was very tasty, and the guests found everything fresh and delicious. I introduced how to eat natto, Japan's iconic national dish and a representative healthy fermented food, but as expected the answer was a firm no. When I mentioned fermented foods, the guests noted they had enjoyed yogurt that morning. The guests were very satisfied with the local flavors of Aomori.

    My name is Tomohiko Kudo.
    I live in Aomori city.
I already visited more than 30 nations so far.
After official retirement from the public officer, I could have the Japanese Government Licensed Guide Certificate and am nowadays very pleased to guide overseas tourists all over the world.
Did you know that the Fuji apple is not from Mt.Fuji…but is actually from Aomori Prefecture’ Fujisaki town. Aomori is proud of the biggest apple product in
Japan. We provide 40 apple-pie restaurants to guests.
Let’s enjoy real Japanese culture and history with me. I would enjoy with you real Samuri history, Kimono culture, local traditional festivals, castle,
Japanese garden, temple, shrine, Japanese tea ceremony, food and Sake.
I often go to the local sea food and vegetable markets and eat fresh foods and would love to show you some secret, hidden restaurants that only Aomori locals know about – let’s go on an adventure together.
If you like sushi and fresh seafood, let me introduce to Nokkedon ?
What is it? Come to Aomori and find out! I am waiting for you.

Title: What Is a Private Kamakura Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time. After sightseeing in Kamakura, they were planning to depart from Yokohama Port on a cruise tour around Japan. At Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Kotokuin Temple (the Great Buddha of Kamakura), the guests listened with great interest to explanations about the differences between shrines and temples, and took many photographs. On Komachi Street, they enjoyed shopping for souvenirs and having lunch, including seafood rice bowls. At Hasedera Temple, they appeared deeply impressed by the large Kannon statue and the view overlooking the sea. Since I responded to all of the guests' requests as they wished, I believe they were satisfied.

I am Seizo Kamiuto, National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter (English). I was born in Kagoshima City in Kyushu (Southern part of Japan) and grew up there until the graduation from a high school. I came to Tokyo to enter a University in Tokyo and since then, I have lived in Tokyo for more than 40 years and therefore I know Tokyo and its suburbs and Kagoshima City very well. After retiring from an IT company, I have been working as a Guide Interpreter of English since March 2018. I have guided many overseas guests to the popular sightseeing spots in Tokyo, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji area (Kawaguchiko Lake etc.), Hakone, Nikko, Yokohama, Kawagoe and Kagoshima and so on. I have received good reviews from many guests. I can explain the history and the culture of Japan in detail. I look forward to an opportunity to guide you in Japan. Thank you. Seizo Kamiuto

What Is a Private Family Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine and Tsukiji The guests were a group visiting from North America. When explaining Japanese history, I presented an origami samurai helmet, an essential element for illustrating the samurai tradition, as a gift to one of the guests. We started at Meiji Shrine as our first stop. Because everyone in the group had obtained a SUICA card as I had requested before their arrival in Japan, we were able to move around smoothly. The guests were eager to try many hands-on experiences. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, they purchased a nakiri knife made using traditional Japanese methods. They thoroughly enjoyed the shopping as well.
