    What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like for a Group? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. One of the guests works in the travel industry, and at first I was a little confused because I did not realize they were among the guests. I had reserved lunch at a sushi restaurant, and since the schedule was tight with four locations to visit, I asked everyone to gather five minutes early. To my delight, the whole group was already waiting in the lobby ten minutes ahead of time, which allowed us to start the tour smoothly. One of the guests was very cheerful and talked a great deal both in the vehicle and at each destination. They often made jokes, though a few were a little hard to follow. Everyone seemed very conscious of the time, and no extra time was spent on shopping or similar activities. The photo was taken at Kinkaku-ji.

    What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera and Fushimi Inari? A Licensed Guide's Report Since the guests were staying near Kinkaku-ji, I guided them around the Kiyomizu-dera area. As a lot of walking was expected, we took a taxi from the Hotel to Kiyomizu-dera, but I had them walk up as much of the slope as possible from Chawanzaka. They were moved by the beauty of Kiyomizu-dera. We walked down Kiyomizuzaka, then Sannenzaka, then Ninenzaka. Along the way, the guests enjoyed taking photos near the Yasaka Pagoda, and also enjoyed a Starbucks housed in a traditional Japanese house. After guiding them through Yasaka Shrine, I showed them around the Gion Shirakawa area and took them to Ippodo, a long-established tea shop. This was because they mentioned they wanted to purchase matcha at a reliable store. After that, we had lunch, visited Fushimi Inari Taisha, and parted ways in Gion-Shijo, where they had a dinner reservation. They were very pleased and said they had spent a truly meaningful day.

    What Is a Private Kyoto Arashiyama Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a retired group visiting from Oceania. They had initially hoped to visit Katsura Imperial Villa and many other places, but through prior consultation we narrowed down the itinerary (Katsura Imperial Villa was closed on the day). For lunch, they did not eat at the restaurant I had suggested, and instead ended up having sweets and other items at a stand near Arashiyama on the Randen line. As it was still a day of lingering summer heat, one of the guests did not go all the way up to Iwatayama Monkey Park and waited seated at about the halfway point. One of the guests said it was very interesting, while the one who waited said they had enjoyed being able to communicate with various people during the wait.

    I'm sorry to report that one of the guests left the tour partway through. I regret that my attention and consideration for everyone was not sufficient. I also forgot to hand out the review form to the guests, and there may be other things I overlooked as well. I apologize for any inconvenience. As for photos during the tour, I did not take any that included everyone; I only have one taken with the representative of the group. If there had been more time, I had considered visiting a former railway site, a shrine, and a covered shopping arcade, but in the end the tour covered only the main sightseeing spots. Even so, the guests seemed to enjoy shopping.

    My name is Susumu Harada. My hobby is tennis. My family is four. My family members are my wife, older daughter, and son. We like sports. We sometimes enjoy playing tennis together. It is a great fun for me.

    I’m interested in history, culture, and sports. I had been a teacher for 37 years. I had taught social studies and English in senior high school. I retired from a school and started a job as a guide in this April. So far, I have guided groups and families from the U.S. and Indonesia. Also, I have guided the passengers of Cruise ships from overseas. I’m a part-time lecturer in a university, too. I have a lecture about history and culture in Hokkaido.

    I was born and had grown up in Hakodate city in Hokkaido. Hakodate city is famous for its beautiful night sight and delicious sea products. I’m proud of them. I studied Indonesian language and English in Osaka university. During my university days, I had a chance to stay in Jogjakarta in Indonesia. It was a great experience for me to learn foreign language and culture. I got interested in the culture in Jawa.
    After graduated from the university, I became a teacher in Hokkaido. I had lived in some cities and towns in Hokkaido. Then I recognized food in Hokkaido is very delicious! Also, I had chance to stay in Edmonton in Canada and Amherst in Massachusetts, the United States. These gave me a chance to experience cultures in English speaking countries.
    Now I live in Sapporo city in Hokkaido. Sapporo city is a new and beautiful city. I love to live in this city. Within one hour driving a car, I can go to the sea and mountain areas, which have a lot of hot springs.

    I like to consider Japanese culture comparing with cultures in other countries. Also, I like to think about Hokkaido comparing with other parts of Japan.
    I found that Hokkaido has unique history and culture, influenced by culture of North (Sakhalin, Siberia and Alaska) and South (mainland of Japan and so on).
    Human being was said to have arrived at Hokkaido about 30.000 years ago. Jomon people (from about 16000 years ago to about 1000 years ago) and Ainu people (about 1000 years ago~) have attractive culture and the way of living trying to live in harmony with nature. They have beautiful arts, too. Hokkaido is still filled with beautiful nature. It is also fun to feel beautiful nature in Hokkaido.
    I love Hokkaido very much. Hokkaido is a very charming and beautiful place and wonderful place to eat delicious food. Let’s enjoy Hokkaido together!

    Title: What Is a Private 6-Hour Hakone Tour Like with a Family? A Licensed Guide's Report The tour was a 6-hour private visit to Hakone with a family group. The guests and I agreed to meet at the Open-Air Museum. When we arrived, one of the guests was fast asleep in a stroller, but woke up right before the foot bath and ended up running around energetically. It also took some effort to coax them away from the jungle gym. The maze was enjoyed together as a group. Since I am a grandfather myself, the group quickly warmed up to me, and when I teased them, they playfully teased me back, making for a delightful day. We took the classic ropeway and pirate ship; although Mount Fuji was not visible, the guests still enjoyed themselves. We could not see Mount Fuji, but that did not matter to everyone in the group. As the guests had planned in advance to have a meal at an Italian restaurant in Moto-Hakone and then head back, they mentioned they would like to conclude the tour there. I accompanied them by bus to Moto-Hakone and parted ways near the restaurant.

    What Is a Private Tokyo History-Focused Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived in Japan from North America and joined the tour well prepared for Tokyo's intense summer heat, having learned about it before their trip and brought a parasol as a precaution. They had originally hoped to visit the Tokyo National Museum, the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, and Tokyo Tower. However, since I had informed them by email that the Tokyo National Museum and the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace are closed on Mondays, and that renovation work on the Top Deck of Tokyo Tower would begin today (September), they visited the Tokyo National Museum the previous day. Being very interested in Japanese history, they enjoyed the special exhibition "Jingoji: Kukai and the Beginnings of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism" at the museum. During today's tour as well, I received many questions related to Japanese history. Tonight I plan to study Japanese history for a few hours before going to sleep. It really is studying every single day.

It was their first visit to Japan. They had arrived at Narita a week earlier, first traveling to Kyoto and Osaka, and returned to Tokyo the previous evening. They said they were interested in Japanese culture and history. They mentioned, "Unlike back home, it is hot and very humid here, so we are struggling." In the intense heat, the tour included many rest breaks. First, we headed to the Tsukiji Outer Market before it closed. I explained "the history of Tsukiji Market" and "the difference between Tsukiji and Toyosu Market." They also asked, "Why are there so many people here? Is it always like this?" and "Do all Tokyo residents come here to buy fish?" They purchased and sampled "grilled beef skewers" and "onigiri." After that, we went to Asakusa. I explained "Sensoji Temple and the history from Edo to Tokyo" and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." They asked questions such as "Is Chinese Buddhism different from Japanese Buddhism?", "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?", and "Are there Christians in Japan?" We moved to the Imperial Palace. I explained "the history of the transition from Edo to Tokyo," "the Meiji Restoration," and "the current Imperial family." They also asked questions such as "Does the Emperor really live inside here?" From there, we moved to Harajuku. At Meiji Shrine, I explained "about the torii gate" and "the history and philosophy of Shinto." We took a break at the "Forest Terrace Meiji Jingu." They said, "It is wonderful that there is such a green space in the center of the city." After that, we moved to Shibuya, crossed the Scramble Crossing, and took commemorative photos in front of the Hachiko statue. They asked, "Why do so many people gather here?" They also commented, "The whole city is clean. There is no litter on the ground," "The public restrooms are clean and pleasant," and "The subway is quiet and clean." Since they were unsure how to get back to their hotel, I saw them off at Kyobashi Station, and we parted ways.

    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

    What Is a Private Yokohama Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Sankeien Garden and Chinatown The guests were visitors from North America who arrived by cruise ship. As one of the guests had difficulty walking, they requested to travel by taxi, so I arranged one accordingly. From Chinatown to the hotel, since a subway station was nearby and they wanted to try the Yokohama subway, we took it. At Sankeien Garden, they were delighted to visit the former Yanohara family residence, where they could see the sunken hearth (irori) and the tea room. It was hot, so the area was uncrowded, which was nice. They also enjoyed browsing miscellaneous goods and soaking up the atmosphere in Chinatown. I was happy to be able to guide a tour in my hometown of Yokohama after a long while.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Highlights Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Higashi-Gyoen, Shibuya, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Asakusa I guided a group visiting from the Middle East on a private Tokyo highlights tour. Before the tour, they had requested to see the main highlights of Tokyo. At the meeting point, the guests said they wanted to withdraw cash and buy some water at a convenience store, so we first stopped at a convenience store near the station. At the station, they purchased a 24-hour metro subway pass and we began the tour. (As a small mishap, after lunch one of the guests accidentally left the pass in a restroom trash bin, so they had to buy a new one!) They had arrived at their accommodation around 2 a.m., but they were in good spirits. I advised them to stay well hydrated, since guests tend to show fatigue as a tour progresses. After a relaxed tour of the Japanese garden at Higashi-Gyoen (the East Gardens), we headed to Shibuya. After taking photos of the famous scramble crossing from the second floor of a coffee shop, I guided the guests to a teppanyaki restaurant for lunch. At the guests' own request, I joined them at the table and we chatted together. I recommended okonomiyaki, which they enjoyed very much. Compared with Senso-ji Temple, which I introduced later, the guests seemed especially satisfied with the sacred atmosphere of Meiji Shrine. We then walked through Takeshita Street in Harajuku, the back streets of Ura-Harajuku and Cat Street, and on to Omotesando. While walking, I had a lively exchange of views with one of the guests about various pieces of information about Japan gathered from YouTube and movies (occasionally offering corrections), including the imperial family, Osaka's takoyaki, workplace relationships in Japanese companies (the somewhat outdated idea that a boss's orders are absolute and that one must always eat and drink with the boss after work), and yakuza (an unverified image of tattooed, dangerous, and incompetent people). In return, the guests taught me many things about their home region — such as hosting a football World Cup in 2026, a huge planned smart city project, the royal family and its power, and the construction of what is planned to be the world's tallest building, scheduled for completion in 2026. I was struck anew by the scale of national strength and urban development there. At the same time, while Japan may feel modest in comparison, I sincerely hoped the guests would come to love it. At Nakamise shopping street, the guests enjoyed strawberry daifuku, soft-serve ice cream, and candied strawberries. After strolling a little around Asakusa, we parted ways at the taxi stand. On the subway ride to Asakusa, one of the guests dozed off, so I truly hope tomorrow will be an enjoyable and memorable day for them.

At a bakery inside the nearby Morinomiya Station, which I recommended, they bought some sweet buns and enjoyed eating them aboard the Loop Line train, which pleased them. At Shitennoji Temple, a monk happened to be chanting sutras, and the guests observed with great interest. In Dotonbori, they enjoyed seeing the famous "Glico Running Man," the crab of "Kani Doraku," the "Billiken" at the kushikatsu shop, and the unusual oval-shaped Ferris wheel. In Dotonbori, the guests wished to stroll a little more and have lunch, so I introduced two or three restaurants, and we parted ways there.

    I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
    real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
    if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

    Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
    that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
    and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
    foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
    Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
    Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
    octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
    This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
    Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
    Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
    ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

    Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
    that you like them very much.

    I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
