What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Tour Beyond Temples and Shrines? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan from North America. After arriving at Kansai Airport and traveling to Kyoto, they came to Tokyo. Since they had visited many temples and shrines in Kyoto, they requested places in Tokyo other than temples and shrines, which led to the tour route above. At Tsukiji, one of the guests enjoyed fatty tuna (otoro). On Takeshita Street and Yanaka Ginza shopping street, the guests enjoyed shopping. At the Imperial Palace, they listened with great interest to explanations about the role of the Emperor and the Meiji Restoration. After the tour, the guests planned to go watch sumo, so we parted ways at Akihabara Station. Since I was able to accommodate the guests' requests, I believe they were satisfied.

Kyoto in One Day: Nijo Castle & Fushimi Inari Taisha

    Tour Itinerary

    • 9:00 Meet @ Mercure Kyoto Station
    • 9:50-10:50 @ Nijo Castle

What Is a Private Full-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nijo Castle, Gion, and Fushimi Inari The guests were visitors from North America. We were able to meet at 9:00, but they briefly returned to their room, so we actually set off around 9:15. Both were full of enthusiasm to learn about Japanese culture and history, and they actively asked all kinds of questions. At Nijo Castle, the water had been drained from the Ninomaru Garden for cleaning, which made for a very disappointing scene. Not knowing this, I had recommended it to the guests under the blazing sun, which left me feeling embarrassed. I wished they would inform visitors at the time of ticket purchase, or at least post a notice at the garden entrance stating that cleaning was underway (there was such a notice near the garden exit, though). For Gion, I guided them starting from the Shirakawa area along a route heading toward the Kaburenjo theater. There was little shade and it was extremely hot. At Sanjusangendo, since photography was not allowed, I handed them binoculars instead so they could enjoy the details. At Fushimi Inari, they seemed to want to take photos of the torii gates as much as possible, so I paid close attention to finding the right timing for that. After the tour, they said they wanted to head toward Arashiyama rather than return to the hotel, so we went to JR Kyoto Station, and I saw them off as they boarded the train bound for Arashiyama before we parted ways.

What Is a Private Family-Friendly Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. Asakusa was busy but still relatively easy to explore. It was very hot, but we were blessed with good weather, so we were able to visit almost all of our planned destinations right on schedule. Character Street at Tokyo Station was especially well received by the group, and the Pokémon shop there was easier to browse than Pokémon shops in other areas. There were also character goods available only there, such as figures in station-staff costumes, making it something of a hidden gem. The group was also very satisfied with the monjayaki and okonomiyaki in Tsukishima.

Title: What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Beyond the Main Sights? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. One of them had visited Japan once a long time ago, while it was the first visit for the other. After sightseeing in Tokyo, they planned to travel to Hakone, Kyoto, and other places. The guests requested, "Since we visited Senso-ji Temple, Meiji Shrine, and Ginza yesterday, today we would like to go to places we haven't been yet," which led to the route described above. At the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, they listened with great interest to historical explanations about the Edo shogunate and the Meiji Restoration. As the guests mentioned they were interested in art and architecture, I guided them to the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and the Bank of Japan Head Office. They were also interested in Tsukiji, so I showed them the Tsukiji Outer Market and Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple. Initially, there was a request to recommend a good place, as they wanted to go to dinner and a jazz club after the tour, but one of the guests said, "It was very hot today and we are tired, so we would like to return to the hotel early," so instead of going to dinner, we went directly back to the hotel. Since I responded exactly as the guests wished, I believe they were satisfied.

Title: What Is a Private Walking Tour with a Licensed Guide in Japan Like? A Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. As often happens with guests from this region, I shared a story about myself: when I was younger and traveled around Europe on a cycling adventure, I only knew basic English, got lost, accidentally ended up on the autobahn, was arrested by the police, and spent a night in a holding cell. I later heard that my face appeared in the newspaper the next day, reporting that a lost boy had wandered onto the autobahn. Whenever I tell this story, it gets a big laugh and the tour always goes smoothly afterward. It is a bit of a self-deprecating story, but it works. Today's guests mentioned that, due to a mix-up at the hotel, they had been given a smoking room and suffered through the night. They apparently requested a room change but were told the hotel was fully booked. From what I could tell, however, it did not seem to be fully booked at all.

Originally, I’m a cycling guide doing cycling tours all over Japan.
But, already done Hiroshima & Miyajima tour more than 400 times.
I traveled many countries in my younger days. I traveled Europe, US, China, India, US, Mexico, Peru Australia, NZ, and so on.
I decided to use this experience to become a guide.
I’m afraid but no tipping required, because cycling guides are not allowed to have tipping in my association. And you do not need to pay for my lunch, because my lunch is prepared by our group.
Please do not hesitate to ask me anything, I’ll change the plan according to your requests.

What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Tokyo's Gardens, Temples, and Tsukiji? A Licensed Guide's Report Under clear skies, taking advantage of the location of the guests' hotel, we traveled directly to Kiyosumi Garden on the Hanzomon Line, and the guests, visiting Japan for the first time, enjoyed the essence of Japanese culture through the design of the garden. We then took the Oedo Line to Kuramae, and after viewing the bronze statues of character figures, we made our way to Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa and the Nakamise shopping street. I explained the true appeal of Japanese temple and shrine architecture, and I feel the guests were able to sense the profound depth of Japanese cultural tradition, which is fundamentally different from the culture of North America, where they are from. At the outer market of Tsukiji, we surveyed Japan's seafood culinary culture, and after I introduced some recommended seafood, we parted ways.

Born and raised in Tokyo a half-century ago, I have lived in Tokyo all my life except for one year in the UK to study for a master’s course. I am a Tokyo Native with viewpoints based on broader local knowledge than anyone else. I have specialised in Japanese history, culture, and architecture since I was an architect.
Also, I am a foodie emphasising Japanese traditional & healthy foods. I’ve been to many countries around the world, such as the US, Central America, Europe, and Asia. As such, I believe I can anticipate the needs of foreign tourists in Japan.

Despite my experience as a guide for just two years, we can make the best out of our tour by travelling from your hotel to spots time-efficiently with my local knowledge, while accommodating your unexpected requests during the tour.
My strong area includes Yanesen; Old Temples in a Quaint Village, Kamakura, Asakusa Sensoji, Meiji Shrine and Imperial Palace. All give you peace of mind.

    • 7.16:15 Tour ends and disband

Title: What Is a Private Himeji Castle and Koko-en Garden Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests contacted me by email around 9:20 to say that they had missed their bullet train and would take the next one, so they would arrive in Himeji around 10:30. They arrived in Himeji as advised, and we met at the JR central ticket gate, starting the tour about 35 minutes behind the planned schedule for the day. They said they had been looking forward to Himeji Castle, and there seemed to be many elements that sparked their interest, such as the scale of the triple moat layout, the defensive mechanisms, and the beauty, structure, and clever features of the keep group. We decided to take our time, including a break. They had also mentioned wanting to visit Engyo-ji Temple on Mount Shosha, but they said they had a reservation for a Yodogawa river cruise at 6:00 in the evening and needed to take a bullet train back to Osaka in the 4:00 hour. Because of the missed train in the morning, there was a possibility that going to Mount Shosha would make them miss the bullet train in the 4:00 hour. Since the guests had been visiting sites every day in the intense heat, we decided to have a relaxed lunch at a cool restaurant and stroll through Koko-en Garden. They took photos of the tiered waterfall, pond, large waterfall, carp, and maple trees in Momiji Valley beside the corridor leading to the mansion garden, and they greatly enjoyed seeing several kinds of dragonflies and butterflies in each garden. After Koko-en, we returned to JR Himeji Station by taxi, and I helped them buy reserved bullet train tickets at the automatic ticket machine, ending the tour. I saw them off at the ticket gate. They were very pleasant guests, and when they saw a photo of a television personality at the entrance of Koko-en, they said they had seen him on TV since arriving in Japan, so I explained that it was a photo taken during a TV program shoot. They were truly enjoying Japan, and they were the kind of guests who made me feel happy just listening to them.

I am Hiromi Mizoi, call me Hiro. I mainly have Himeji tours because I live in Himeji. I got my National Guide Certificate in 2017. I started to guide tourists as a volunteer guide in 2004. I had been a volunteer guide for a long time. However, I could not have any tours from April in 2020 to November in 2022 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Now, many tourists have come back to Japan. So, I am very excited. I would like to share not only the beauty of Himeji Castle’s Main Tower Complex but also the tricky defense systems of the entire Castle Grounds, which many visitors do not realize, with you. I was born and grew up very close to the west side of the moats of the Castle. So, I love Himeji Castle. I like other tourists’ favorite sightseeing spots such as Kokoen Garden and Engyoji Temple in Mt. Shosya. As one of Himeji locals, I am greatly happy to share the local people’s favorite spots with you. I look forward to your tours.

What Can You See on an 8-Hour Private Walking Tour of Yanaka and Ameyoko in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe on their second trip to Japan, so I took them to places they had not seen before. At Nezu Shrine they bought a good-luck bell, and at a traditional shop they purchased owl-themed items they collect. Since the temperature was high from the morning and we walked quite a bit in Yanaka, we had an early lunch at a local restaurant in Komagome. They enjoyed a pork cutlet set meal and were very satisfied. At Rikugien Garden they enjoyed the matcha and sweets they had been looking forward to. Along the way we made sure to stop for ice cream and to stay well hydrated. At Ameyoko they bought lots of Japanese sweets at a confectionery shop. This was an 8-hour tour, and since we had a little time left at the end, I took them to the basement floor of a nearby department store, where they bought gyoza, shumai, and a bag containing wine and a plate from a specialty grocery store. One of the guests had a fine camera and took many photographs. The guests were calm and relaxed, and we had a very pleasant time together.

Title: What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Before a Cruise? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who planned to board a cruise ship in September and wished to see Tokyo's main highlights beforehand. The day was very hot and humid, and since some of the guests found the heat difficult, I guided them slowly and arranged breaks in cool places whenever possible. For lunch, the guests wished to have sushi in Tsukiji, so I took them to a sushi restaurant in Tsukiji, which they enjoyed very much. In the latter half, the guests appeared quite tired, so we skipped Harajuku and visited Shinjuku instead, then I saw them back to their hotel and ended the tour a little earlier than planned, at the guests' request.

Hi, I am Nobu, a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter (English).
I have been an English guide in Tokyo area since January 2017.
Tokyo is a wonderful city, and you may enjoy this city by yourselves.
Even so, I recommend you go around with a guide, especially if it is your first time visit to Tokyo.
A good guide will help you to understand about Tokyo and Japan as well as how to use convenient but complicated public transportations more effectively.
I am glad if I can help you to make your tour more enjoyable.
I am looking forward to meeting you in Tokyo soon!

What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Tour Visiting Asakusa and Tokyo Tower? A Licensed Guide's Report The hotel is located slightly away from central Tokyo, but gathering in the lobby was easy, and since the guests arrived 20 minutes early, we were able to start smoothly. The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. They were interested in the Imperial Palace, but I informed them that the East Gardens are closed on Mondays, so we chose Asakusa and Tokyo Tower as our destinations, both of which offered good access from the hotel. Since the guests wished to have lunch during the tour, I guided them to a spot in Asakusa. Many shops were closed that day, which made things difficult, but fortunately the long-established restaurant Owariya was open, which was a great help. One of the guests had not fully recovered and did not seem to be in the best condition, so walking from Daimon Station to Tokyo Tower in the high heat was not feasible. They took a taxi in front of Zojoji Temple and returned to the hotel first. After that, I guided the rest of the group to Tokyo Tower and saw them back to the hotel almost on schedule, ending the tour.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.
