There we watched the auctions of both fresh and frozen tuna. Recently the number of guided visitors has increased, and the best window-side positions were extremely crowded. Some guides were explaining in very loud voices, which was quite bothersome. After watching the auction, the guests said they wanted to eat sushi, so we went to a sushi restaurant I visit regularly. They found many things they liked and bought shine muscat grapes and sake — here the conversation livened up over the shop owner's love of basketball — and even bought a knife and had a name engraved on it. They also bought matcha chocolate, and I was surprised by their strong enthusiasm for shopping. After that, we returned to Tsukiji, where I showed them the flow of tuna after the auction, and we parted ways on site. They were delighted.

A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were very satisfied with the view of Goryokaku from Goryokaku Tower and the view of the Hakodate cityscape from Mount Hakodate. They marveled at how wonderful the reconstructed building of the Hakodate Magistrate's Office was. The guests decided to have their meals according to their individual preferences, but in the end they all ate at the same restaurant. There were no particular complaints about any of the dishes. Since they wanted to see the old Public Hall up close, we stopped again on the way back down from Mount Hakodate toward the port. The guests remarked that the scenery, the goods at the morning market, and everything else were different from their own culture. They praised how clean the townscape was, and checked whether there were any people living on the streets. The six hours passed in the blink of an eye.

Can You Do a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shibamata, Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, and Shinjuku The guests were two friends visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. Two days earlier, they arrived at Haneda Airport via a connecting flight and made their way to their accommodation by train. The previous day, they had gone to teamLab (Shin-Toyosu), but were unable to enter because they had not made a reservation, so they explored Ginza and Akihabara instead. They planned to stay in Japan for ten days. In addition to Tokyo, they would visit Hida-Takayama, Kanazawa, and Hiroshima, before flying from Kansai Airport to another destination in Asia. They planned to stay there for four days before returning home. They said, "We came to Japan on the recommendation of a friend who had traveled here before." One of the guests followed a vegetarian diet. Under cloudy skies (though it did not rain), the tour proceeded with several rest breaks. From Shinjuku, we first headed to Katsushika Shibamata. We explored the approach path, Taishakuten Temple, and Yamamoto-tei. The comments were, "It's a calm, quiet place," and "We know the Tora-san stories well." From here, we went to Asakusa. Passing through Kaminarimon and the Nakamise shopping street to the main hall, I explained "the history of Senso-ji and the transition from Edo to Tokyo" and "the difference between Buddhism and Shinto." There were questions such as, "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?" and "What kind of teaching is Buddhism?" Regarding the crowds, there was also a question: "This is completely different from Taishakuten — why is that?" We moved on to Harajuku. At Meiji Shrine, I again explained "the difference between Shinto and Buddhism." I also explained "the Meiji Restoration," "Emperor Meiji," and "the Japanese Imperial Family." The comment was, "It's wonderful that there is such a green place in the middle of the city." We had lunch at a café within the grounds. Both guests love Japanese soba, so they chose soba. After this, there was a request to be shown around the east exit of Shinjuku, so we went to Shinjuku 3-chome. We explored "Shinjuku Golden Gai" (though all the shops were closed), "Kabukicho," and "Omoide Yokocho." We also saw the Godzilla Head. The comments were, "The atmosphere is completely different from other neighborhoods in the city," and "We definitely want to visit Golden Gai at night." There were also comments such as, "The whole city is clean. There's no litter on the streets," "The public restrooms are clean and pleasant," "The subway is quiet and clean," and "Why are there no trash cans on the streets?" I saw them off at the west exit of Shinjuku Station, where we parted ways.

What Is a Private Ise Jingu Shrine Tour from Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Ise Jingu Shrine, one of whom had previously spent seven years in Nagoya and had visited Ise Jingu several times, making it a favorite shrine. While some of the group had been to Japan a few times before, this was their first visit to Ise Jingu. On this occasion, they enjoyed USJ in Osaka and then traveled by Kintetsu Railway from Osaka to Ise to visit Ise Jingu Shrine. They had a specific restaurant in mind for lunch. After lunch, we headed to the Inner Shrine (Naiku), switching to an electric wheelchair at the guard station and information center before setting off, with one of the guests operating it. I guided them slowly and carefully, making sure to cover the key points. After the visit, we returned to Oharai-machi and Okage Yokocho. The guests enjoyed dessert at the main Akafuku shop and then went shopping. They were very interested in dashi and shopped at an Ise soy sauce store and a specialty kombu shop. One of the guests, who had grown a little restless during the shopping, cheered up again after having some soft serve ice cream, and everything ended happily.

Title: Can You Do a Private Day Trip to Kyoto from a Cruise Ship in Kobe? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests this time were a group visiting Japan from North America. Advance communication was conducted with a representative of the group, but although I sent my first message in late July, there was no reply for nearly two months, and I was unable to reach them. I also asked [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) to follow up, but there was no response to that either. At the end of September, following guidance from [Japan Guide Agency](https://www.j-g-a.org/), I tried contacting them via a messaging app, and finally received a response in early October. However, the messages were fragmentary, and it was difficult to obtain crucial information such as the accommodation and the meeting point. The main pieces of information I could gather were: ① they did not know the meeting point (in the confirmed information, the guests are supposed to instruct the guide); ② they did not know the means of transportation from Kobe to Kyoto (which made no sense to me at this stage); ③ was the 10:00 meeting time correct? (suggesting they might not have seen either my first message or the detailed information); and ④ there would be four members in the tour, one of whom would need a wheelchair. In any case, after exchanging repeated messages via the messaging app, it was only the day before that we finalized: ① meeting in the lobby of the Hotel, and ② visiting Nijo Castle → Kinkaku-ji → Arashiyama → Fushimi Inari, with lunch in Arashiyama. On the day, I waited in the lobby of the Hotel from 9:30. I had also confirmed with the private car driver that they would board at 10:00, and waited, but even after the promised 10:00 the guests did not appear. When I asked the hotel staff, they could not confirm the guests' name (incidentally, I had inquired the day before about whether the guests were staying there, but was told that "without a room number, we cannot share information for privacy protection"). Of course, I sent messages via the messaging app, which was my only means of contact, and even tried its call function, but the guests did not answer. I had resolved that "if there is no response from the guests after 30 minutes, I will consult with [Japan Guide Agency](https://www.j-g-a.org/)," but around 10:25 one of the guests appeared, and we were able to meet up. It was only after meeting up that I learned several important facts: ① the group were guests of a cruise ship docked in Kobe and were on a day trip to Kyoto, and ② therefore, they had never been staying at the Hotel in the first place. In any case, I was fortunate to be able to meet all the guests with a 30-minute delay. I asked the guests to confirm: "Since we are starting late, if we fall further behind along the way, we will have to cancel the final destination (Fushimi Inari). Is that acceptable?" and all the guests agreed. On that basis, I did my best to help them enjoy their Kyoto trip, with the cooperation of the driver. However, one of the guests strongly requested, "I absolutely want to see the newly opened 'Six Senses Kyoto,' so please be sure to take us there," and all the guests confirmed that we would try to make that request come true. Once the tour started, prioritizing wheelchair movement above all meant that we moved more slowly than planned. While using the itinerary as a basis, I responded flexibly with safety as the top priority. Thanks to this, the guests were able to fully enjoy Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji, and Arashiyama. The final stop, Fushimi Inari, had to be canceled due to lack of time. However, we were able to realize the visit to "Six Senses Kyoto," which had been a heartfelt wish, and everyone was delighted. I was relieved to be able to finish the tour safely, but I strongly feel that the "lack of information about cruise ship guests" is an issue that [Japan Guide Agency](https://www.j-g-a.org/) should work to resolve. I would like it to be thoroughly ensured that, in the detailed information of a guest's tour application, it is always clearly stated when they are cruise ship guests. Even now this is sometimes noted, but in most cases the "meeting point" field only says "We will select later." In particular, I think guests who are slow to respond even when the guide has sent the first message deserve caution. What Is a Full-Day Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America, on their first trip to Japan. Two days earlier, they had arrived at Haneda Airport via a connecting flight and taken a taxi to their Hotel. The previous day, they had explored Nihonbashi and Akihabara. The guests planned to stay in Japan for two weeks, spending several days in Tokyo before continuing to Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hiroshima, and returning to Tokyo before flying home. They mentioned that they had come to Japan on the recommendation of a close friend. It rained during the day, so the tour included several breaks. We first headed to Asakusa. Since the guests wanted coffee, we stopped at a coffee shop. Afterward, we walked from Kaminarimon Gate to the main hall, and I explained the history of Sensoji Temple and the transition from Edo to Tokyo, as well as the differences between Buddhism and Shinto. There were questions such as, "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?" and "What kind of teaching is Buddhism?" We then moved to Ueno and the Tokyo National Museum. The guests said they had an interest in Japanese history studied during their university days, and they viewed the Buddhist statues and ukiyo-e prints with great enthusiasm. They also asked about Japanese paper: "What is it made from? How is it produced?" They mentioned plans to see kabuki the next day and to take part in a tea ceremony experience in Kyoto. Since the guests wanted curry rice for lunch, we went to a curry restaurant in the underground mall in Otemachi. They mentioned that they sometimes order curry rice to enjoy at home as well. Next, we moved to the Imperial Palace. I explained the Edo period, the Meiji Restoration, the current Imperial Family, and Gyoko-dori Avenue. The guests said they liked the beautiful pine trees, and asked questions such as, "Does the Emperor really live in here?" We then moved to Harajuku. At Meiji Shrine, I explained the differences between Shinto and Buddhism once more. The guests remarked that it was wonderful to have such a green space in the heart of the city. We continued on to Shibuya. We crossed the scramble intersection and took a commemorative photo in front of the Hachiko statue. There was a question about why so many people gather at the scramble intersection. The guests commented that the city was very clean with no litter on the ground, that the public restrooms were clean and pleasant, and that the subway was quiet and clean, noting that although there is a subway where they live, they found Tokyo's to be far more impressive. They also asked why there are no trash bins on the streets. I saw the guests off at Shinjuku Station, and we parted ways.

Can You Do a Private Day Trip in Tokyo Visiting Nihonbashi and Yanaka Ginza? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. They had a strong interest in art and had initially requested a visit to an art museum, but in order to make the best use of the limited time available, I asked them to reconsider and offered several plans, and we changed the itinerary to Nihonbashi and Yanaka Ginza instead. Right after we met, due to the effects of bad weather during their stay, they mentioned they wanted to change today's itinerary and had some shops they wished to visit, so we suddenly changed part of the destinations. As the guests were creators, I introduced them to a vintage kimono shop and a shop for blades used in carving, which they were delighted with, and we parted ways at that shop at the end.

Title: What Is a Rainy-Day Private Hakone Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a calm and relaxed group who had already taken their photos at Hakone Shrine the day before. I had planned to visit the Hakone Open-Air Museum, expecting the rain to stop in the afternoon, but the rain continued, and the guests said they would visit there the following day instead. They enjoyed Owakudani, a cruise, and the shrine, and finished a little early, taking a taxi from Hakone Shrine back to their Hotel. It was unfortunate that it rained the whole time and Mount Fuji was not visible, but the guests said, "We had a good time, so finishing early is fine," and so we parted ways earlier than planned. They headed home with lovely yukata as souvenirs.

Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from Europe. Communication before the tour was difficult, but on the day of the tour we were able to meet without any problems. The night before, they contacted me saying they wanted to visit a Pokémon Café and wanted to know what time the tour would end. Hiroshima has a Pokémon Center, but it was unclear whether it had a café there, so to confirm whether the place they meant was the same one I had in mind, I sent them a link to the Pokémon Center. After they checked it, we confirmed it was the same place. On the day of the tour, I received a message that they had missed the bullet train, so the 11:00 start became an 11:30 start. They said there had been a trouble purchasing the bullet train ticket in Osaka. Although they had bought a reserved seat ticket from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima, a staff member told them they could not board with it, so they bought a new one and paid again. When I asked about the fare, they said they had paid about 11,000 yen twice. After the tour, I checked the fare from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima, and since a reserved seat is about 10,420–10,640 yen per person, I sent the guests a link explaining this. The morning bullet train ticket trouble seemed to have made things hectic, but when we met at the Hotel, they immediately noticed me and waved enthusiastically. The tour proceeded pleasantly, and at both Miyajima and Peace Park the guests asked many questions and also shared many personal stories. The guests were interested in Ghibli and Pokémon, and at Miyajima one of them surprised the other with a gift of Ghibli goods, which was greatly appreciated. As for food, one of the guests did not care for seafood and preferred chicken. Another had nothing in particular they disliked and happily enjoyed both lunch and sweets. One of the guests mentioned they had a goshuin book and requested to visit places where they could receive stamps, so I took them to Itsukushima Shrine and Daigan-ji Temple. There, at Itsukushima Shrine the calligraphy was written first and then an orange stamp was pressed, while at Daigan-ji the stamp was pressed first and then the calligraphy was written, so a question arose about whether the method differs between shrines and temples or from place to place. When I asked at Daigan-ji, they said it differs from place to place and there is no particular rule. After Miyajima, we headed to the Atomic Bomb Museum. The guests spent more than an hour carefully viewing the museum and shared various impressions and questions. Afterward, while touring the memorial monuments, they requested that I ask whether there was a nearby bookstore that might carry a particular art book they wanted. When I asked at Kinokuniya Bookstore, unfortunately the book was not in stock and it turned out to be a special book that could not even be reserved. Just to be sure, the staff checked whether any Kinokuniya nationwide had it in stock, but it did not appear to be available. When I relayed this to the guests, they understood and thanked the staff for checking. After the tour, since they planned to have dinner, I told them about the SOGO department store where the Pokémon Center is located, Pacela, Hondori, and the location of Kentucky Fried Chicken, and the tour ended at the entrance of the Pokémon Center. The weather and climate were wonderful, the guests enjoyed themselves very much, and I too had a very pleasant time. Recently, I often see the wording "Places you would like to visit (4 hour tour: 2-3 places, 6 hour tour: 3-4 places, 8 hour tour: 4-6 places)." I have also received messages from guests such as "For 4 hours it's 2–3 places, and for 6 hours 3–4 places, right?" and I sometimes feel it would be concerning if the understanding of how many places can be visited differs between the guest and the guide. For example, within a 7-hour tour, doing both Itsukushima Shrine and Daisho-in at Miyajima is quite difficult. However, if guiding through Miyajima while showing the five-story pagoda, Senjokaku, and the giant rice scoop counts as three places, then 3–4 places at Miyajima is possible. Depending on the crowds, Itsukushima Shrine may have to be skipped. Similarly, within Peace Park, if the museum, the memorial monument tour, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and the hypocenter count as four places, it is possible, but if Peace Park, Hiroshima Castle, and Shukkeien count as three, it becomes quite difficult. As advised by your company, I do tell guests in advance that we may not be able to visit everything on the tour list. In Hiroshima, travel between Miyajima and the city takes roughly just under an hour. So far there have been no complaints from guests regarding the number of places visited, but I am a little concerned about whether a difference in understanding of "places" might arise.

Hello! My name is Miki. I was born and brought up in Hiroshima. I enjoy traveling around Inland Sea areas and I enjoy chatting with guests from overseas!

In Hiroshima, you can see many beautiful rivers and old bridges. Lately, I often take photos of Hiroshima city including bridges and rivers. There are not many tall buildings here, but I know some places you can visit and see the view for free. By the atomic bomb dome, there is a building called Orizuru(paper crane) Tower. You need to pay to go up to the top floor but you can see the view of Hiroshima city and the Miyajima Island(Itsukushima).

Many tourists from overseas as well as Japan want to visit Miyajima Island. You can see a beautiful shrine from Heian Period which is around 12th century and a huge Torii gate in front of the shrine and it is in the water. There are several ways to visit the island from Hiroshima city. If you are going to stay near JR Hiroshima Station, we will visit the island by JR train and JR ferry. If you are staying in the city area, we can go there by streetcar and ferry, or there is a high-speed boat from Peace Memorial Park pier directly to the island and vise versa.

Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Peace Park Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group visiting from Europe on a private tour in Hiroshima. We first headed to the museum inside the Peace Memorial Park, just a few minutes' walk from the group's hotel. We managed to enter smoothly before a large school excursion group arrived, allowing me to guide them through the exhibits without crowds. One of the guests translated my explanations for the others in their own language, and I sometimes received questions in English from within the group as well. Since Denmark is also a maritime nation made up of a peninsula and many islands, one of the guests especially wished to try oyster dishes, so I guided the group to a restaurant that also offered dishes other than oysters for the rest of the party, and they were satisfied. I explained the long-standing connection between Andersen and a bakery in Hiroshima (whose founder serves as the country's honorary consul and which helped popularize Danish pastries in Japan), and they listened with great interest.
