    What Is a Private Guided Tour in Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came to Hiroshima on a trip. Due to a mix-up about their accommodation, the meeting point and time were changed two days beforehand, but we were able to meet without any trouble. The guests were very talkative, and at the restaurant we chatted so much that we were kindly asked to free up the table for other customers waiting outside. We completed the itinerary largely as planned. At the end, I assisted at the counter with trying to change a Shinkansen ticket, but it had been purchased through an app that did not allow changes, so it could not be modified. This is a case that comes up from time to time recently. The guests had a very wide range of topics and interests, ranging from the cost of owning a car when living in Japan, to conversations about livestock, and even how families and hospitals handle life-prolonging treatment for patients.

Also, the sea has many islands called “art islands” which have fantastic arts relating to the art festival “Setouchi Triennale”.     Title: What's a Private Nagoya Day Tour from a Cruise Ship at Kinjo Pier Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Two taxis were reserved at Kinjo Pier, and as soon as the guests disembarked from the cruise ship and came through the gate, they took the taxis to Tsukijiguchi, the nearest subway station, and from there traveled by subway to Nagoya Castle. At Nagoya Castle, the guests showed great interest in the Honmaru Palace, so I explained it carefully. Originally the plan included a visit to Atsuta Shrine, but the guests expressed a wish to enjoy a relaxed lunch and some shopping at Oasis 21, so I changed the original plan and we had lunch at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant in Oasis 21. Afterward, I showed them to the taxi stand, prepared a note to give the taxi driver stating the destination (Kinjo Pier), and we parted ways at Oasis 21. In a later exchange via a messaging app, I confirmed that they had arrived safely at Kinjo Pier and boarded the ship. I flexibly changed the original plan to suit the guests' wishes, and the guests were very pleased.

    What's a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Lake Ashi, Owakudani, and the Open-Air Museum The guests were visitors from North America. The weather was excellent, and Mount Fuji could be seen clearly from both Owakudani and the pirate ship, which the guests were very happy about. At Togendai there was a long line waiting to board the pirate ship, but the guests requested the special room, so we were able to board with priority. By showing my guide license and a written document from the travel company, I was also able to board together with them at no additional charge. For lunch at "Kinuhiki no Sato" we had the seasonal special of "anago tempura and kinuhiki udon," which the guests enjoyed very much. The itinerary proceeded almost exactly as planned, and after entering the Hakone Open-Air Museum, I guided them to the Picasso Pavilion, where the tour concluded.

    What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like from Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who found everything about the day enjoyable. Since seeing Mount Fuji was their top priority, we headed straight to Owakudani. Fortunately, we were greeted by a spectacular view of Mount Fuji that had not been visible for quite some time, and the guests were thrilled. We took many photos, including some with a congratulatory board I had made by hand. The guests found the lunch at a donburi restaurant delicious. After enjoying a lively conversation about the basics of Shinto, Buddhism, emperors and shoguns, as well as kanji, we soaked in the atmosphere of a bygone era at the site of an old checkpoint. At the Hakone Open-Air Museum, although we moved quickly, the guests appreciated the beautiful harmony between art and nature. Since they planned to make their own way to Odawara Station the next day, I explained how to get back and we parted ways.

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya The guests were senior visitors from Oceania. The person who made the booking only handled the reservation, and it was other members of the group who actually joined the tour. They had arrived in Japan two days earlier, and after sightseeing in Tokyo, they planned to board a cruise on Wednesday to travel around various parts of Japan for about 12 days. At the meeting point, I was told that one of the guests had left a passport in the taxi from the airport and needed to go to the taxi company's office to retrieve it. They asked for support, as they wanted to go pick it up by taxi after the tour and then return to their accommodation in the same taxi. On the tour, I guided the guests around Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya. They enjoyed taking many photos at both the traditional and the modern spots. Since the guests did not need lunch during the tour, we went around without taking any particular breaks. After seeing the scramble crossing and the Hachiko statue in Shibuya, I guided them to the taxi stand. I explained to the driver that they wanted to go to the taxi company's office to retrieve the passport and then return to their accommodation, and just to be safe I handed over a note with the addresses of the office and the accommodation. The guests got into the taxi and we parted ways there. I sent a thank-you email that evening, and in the reply I learned that they had safely received the passport, which was a relief.

    What Is a Full-Day Private Tour of Central Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a person visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. Two days earlier, the guest had arrived at Narita Airport on a direct flight from Europe and traveled to the hotel by Narita Express. The previous day, the guest had strolled around Ginza. The guest planned to stay in Japan for two weeks, spending four days in Tokyo, then traveling to Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima, before returning to Tokyo and heading to another country in Asia. After a four-day stay there, the guest planned to return home. The guest's requests were: "Even if the time spent at each destination is short, I want to visit as many sightseeing spots as possible," "Lunch is not necessary," and "I am interested in history and culture, but not in shopping." It was a somewhat chilly day for the tour. Since the guest said, "I plan to go to Asakusa on my own another day," we first went to Tsukiji. We took our time strolling through the Tsukiji Outer Market, and I explained "the history of the Tsukiji Market" and "the difference between the Tsukiji Market and the Toyosu Market." Although it was a market closure day, there was quite a crowd. The guest asked, "Is it always this crowded?" We moved on to the Imperial Palace. I explained "about the Meiji Restoration," "why Edo Castle became the Imperial Palace," and "the current challenges facing the Imperial Family." The guest said, "The pine trees are beautiful, and I really like them," and also asked questions such as "Does the Emperor really live in here?" We moved to Harajuku. At Meiji Shrine, I explained "the difference between Shinto and Buddhism," and also explained "about Emperor Meiji." The guest said, "It's wonderful that there is such a green place in the middle of the city." We moved to Shibuya, where the guest experienced the Scramble Crossing and took a commemorative photo in front of the Hachiko statue. The guest also asked, "Why are there so many people here? Are they mostly Japanese, or mostly travelers?" We then moved to Shinjuku. We walked briskly through Shinjuku Golden Gai (all the shops were closed), Kabukicho, and Omoide Yokocho. The guest said, "This has a different atmosphere from other parts of Tokyo." The guest commented, "There are so many people absolutely everywhere," "A lot of tourists come to Europe too, but not to this extent," and asked, "Isn't everyone troubled by the sheer number of tourists?" The guest also made comments such as "The city is clean. There is no litter on the ground," "There are no trash cans in the streets," "There are no homeless people to be seen," and "The public restrooms are clean and pleasant." I saw the guest off at Otemachi Station, near the hotel, and we parted ways.

    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.

    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.

    Title: What Can You See on a One-Day Private Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who had arrived the previous night. Another guide was scheduled to accompany them from 6:00 that evening, and from the next day they would move toward the Kansai region on a package tour, so the private tour with [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) took place on this day only. Their accommodation was located midway between Shimbashi Station and Ginza Station, so we began with a stroll through Ginza from the Kabukiza Theatre to the 4-chome intersection. During this walk, I gave a 7–8 minute overview of the history of Tokyo, covering the era of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the Meiji Restoration, the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the Pacific War. Since it was still early in the day, Shibuya was not yet crowded, but the guests were sufficiently amazed by the Scramble Crossing. In contrast, Meiji Shrine was quite busy, with many inbound tour groups. Preparations for the Chrysanthemum Festival were also underway, so it seems the crowds there will continue to grow. We stepped into Takeshita Street once, but the crowds were so heavy that we turned back promptly. The Imperial Palace Outer Gardens were relatively quiet, as it also happened to be a closed day for the East Gardens. In Asakusa, I introduced the main shopping spots (ukiyo-e at Sakai Kokodo, cutlery at Shinnakamise Kiyosuke, daruma dolls, lucky cat figurines, melon bread, and more). After we parted ways, the guests planned to enjoy shopping on their own.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Can You Do a Private Full-Day Tour of Tokyo's Gardens and Temples? A Licensed Guide's Report As I had already mentioned by email the day before, I once again sincerely apologized for failing to confirm that the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace were closed that day. The guests kindly said it was no problem, but going forward I must pay special attention to the East Gardens. The original itinerary had included Meiji Shrine, but since the guests intended to visit many shrines in Kyoto, we decided to visit only Nezu Shrine and to see two or three gardens instead. On the way to Asakusa, I quickly reworked the itinerary and was able to propose an efficient route covering Asakusa, Koishikawa Korakuen, Rikugien, and Nezu Shrine. The guests seemed very satisfied with the ramen and gyoza for lunch, and especially with the Japanese gardens.

    Title: What Is a 6-Hour Private Walking Tour by Bus and Train Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. There was no advance communication about their preferred destinations, so we discussed and decided on the itinerary at the Hotel on the morning of the tour. Since it was a 6-hour tour involving transfers between buses and trains, I was concerned about the guests' stamina, but they managed to complete the entire walk. During the journey, the guests kindly supported one another (though it was really only my limited English that was the issue). They showed great interest in the historic sites we visited along the way and remarked how wonderful the thorough maintenance of these places was. As they came from a well-known tourist area in Oceania, I enjoyed hearing about the local tourism situation there. I was delighted when they told me to get in touch if I ever came to visit their area.
