What Is a Private Miyajima and Hiroshima Day Tour Like from Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They seemed to be true baseball lovers, watching MLB games featuring Shohei Ohtani and Japanese professional baseball games on television, and we had a lively time talking about all kinds of sports — from baseball to sumo — including topics about snowboarding and skiing that the guests enjoy. On Miyajima, the guests wanted to see the deer, and they also seemed to love the Five Hundred Rakan Garden at Daisho-in Temple, taking many photos there in particular. Since they came from Kyoto planning to stay one night, I had suggested beforehand that we drop off their luggage, as the Hotel was close to the station, but they said they would be fine traveling light with backpacks, and indeed they arrived with backpacks. At the Peace Memorial Museum, I suggested they use one of the free coin lockers to store their bags, but they said they were fine and carried their backpacks all day. On the bus taking them to the Hotel, when the guests tried holding each other's bags, they said mine was heavy too, but I was amazed at how truly heavy one of the backpacks was! Even so, the guests insisted they were completely fine the whole time, and we all laughed, saying it was almost like training. I hope they weren't too tired afterward.

Title: What Is a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, and Asakusa The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. After Tokyo, they planned to visit Mount Fuji, Kyoto, and Osaka as well. Some of the guests had roots in different regions and shared a connection through tango, and they had a unique plan to join a tango dancing event at a dance studio on their last night in Tokyo. The first day of sightseeing in Tokyo was fortunate, as we happened to catch glimpses of various events wherever we went. For example, at Meiji Shrine we encountered the morning worship ceremony. We also came across a bride and groom waiting for their wedding. In front of the Main Gate and Nijubashi Bridge at the Imperial Palace, we encountered the motorcade of the Emperor returning from an official event, and we saw His Majesty waving from the car. One of the guests joked, "It seems like all sorts of events have been prepared for us today," and we were able to enjoy a pleasant walk. For lunch in Asakusa, the place we had planned had already finished its lunch service, but we tried a reasonably priced sukiyaki set meal (1,500 yen) for the first time, and it was even more delicious than expected, leaving everyone very satisfied. Although the tour extended well beyond the planned 6 hours, the time passed without anyone feeling tired. What Can You See on a Private Walking Tour of Kanazawa? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided the group visiting from Europe. They mentioned that the Higashi Chaya District in the early morning had almost no people, which made it ideal for taking photos. At Kenrokuen Garden they enjoyed the lush natural scenery, and at Kanazawa Castle they enjoyed the traditional architecture. They also enjoyed the scenery of the earthen walls in the samurai residence district. We parted ways near the Korinbo area. I took them to a Japanese restaurant nearby, but as they wanted to continue sightseeing, I gave them information about places such as Oyama Shrine and said goodbye there. The guests this time had a single-lens reflex camera and enjoyed photographing the beautiful scenery of the Higashi Chaya District, Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle, and the samurai residence district.

I majored in civil engineering at a college and am interested in historical infrastructures. I have also guided foreign people around Ishikawa Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, and Fukui Prefecture as an international activity of an English circle. I was a volunteer interpreter at the training camp for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021.

Hokuriku region has a lot of sightseeing spots as follows, beautiful landscapes like Kenrokuen Garden and Tateyama, tasty food like traditional Kaga dishes and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay, traditional crafts like Kaga Yuzen dyeing, Takaoka copperware, and Inami woodcarving. I introduce these spots and historical infra tourism such as Kurobe dam and industrial tourism.

I also work as a translator. I translated the Japanese firefly squid tourism pamphlet into English in 2020.

    # What's a Private Day Trip to Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today I guided a group of guests visiting from North America. They had already visited Tokyo, Nikko, Mount Fuji, and Kyoto, and expressed that they did not want to see any more temples or shrines. So we approached the day as a small excursion to Nara. To avoid the crowds, we walked the route in the opposite direction from the general tourist flow, heading from Kasuga Taisha toward Nigatsudo of Todaiji. The guests very much enjoyed feeding the deer. They were also greatly surprised to find a small pond with many carp near the area where we came down from the bell tower. After lunch, I took them to the Nara Nigiwai-no-Ie in Naramachi, where I explained about traditional Japanese townhouses, and then we headed back. The guests walked quite a distance, so they may have been rather tired by the end.

【Meeting point: Hotel】 Title: What's a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shimokitazawa — A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came from Europe and had already traveled to Tokyo, Hakone, and Kyoto before returning to Tokyo for this tour. They seemed perfectly capable of getting anywhere on their own by searching public transportation on Google Maps. Precisely because they seemed like people who might not need a guide, I told myself from the start that I really had to do my best. In our exchanges beforehand, the guests requested Meiji Shrine and Harajuku, and, if time allowed, Gotokuji and Shimokitazawa in a flexible manner, so I guided them exactly as requested. Since they had already seen so many temples and shrines in Kyoto, it was wonderful that at Meiji Shrine we were able to see a chrysanthemum exhibition and a wedding procession. After walking through Takeshita Street, they also showed interest in Omotesando, so we strolled leisurely to Omotesando Station. The guests told me they love wandering and exploring towns on foot. I guided them to Gotokuji and Setagaya Hachimangu Shrine, and then we had lunch in Shimokitazawa and enjoyed exploring the streets before saying goodbye at Shimokitazawa Station. They were talkative and pleasant, and they shared many stories about the places they had visited. Shimokitazawa in particular is full of small shops scattered along narrow, tangled streets and can be hard to navigate, and I was delighted when the guests said they could never have explored this area on their own. This tour was arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures and winner of the Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Best of the Best.

Kyoto in One Day: Fushimi Inari Train ride & Gion stroll Taxi ride

    Tour Itinerary

    • 8:30 Hotel meet (spoke with the guest beforehand and decided to start 30 minutes later) Train ride
    • 9:30 Fushimi Inari (enjoyed takoyaki and coffee from the food stalls) Train ride
    • 10:30 Sanjusangendo
    • 11:45 Lunch (ramen at guest's request) Train from Shichijo
    • 12:30 Gion stroll Taxi ride
    • 13:30 Kyogashi (Kyoto sweets) exhibition and matcha at Yuhisai Kodokan, on foot
    • 15:00 Finished near the hotel

What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Sanjusangendo, and Gion The guests were visitors from North America. Since one of the group had some difficulty walking, we moved at a slow and comfortable pace throughout the day. Fushimi Inari was quite crowded as expected, but we made a point of using elevators wherever possible. After that, we took a short break with takoyaki and coffee before heading to Sanjusangendo. The guests seemed to have an interest in art and took their time viewing everything carefully. Next, at the request of one of the group, we went to a ramen restaurant, and they enjoyed the ramen very much. We then moved to Gion, where I guided them from Shirakawa to Hanamikoji, and afterward we took a taxi to Yuisai Kodokan. Although it was not on the What to Do list, I had visited before and found it wonderful, so I suggested it to the guests in advance, and since they were interested, I took them there. They enthusiastically viewed the display of Kyoto sweets and took photos, and they also enjoyed the matcha experience afterward, saying, "It was really unique and special experience." (Because there was a fairly long wait for the matcha, the tour was extended by 30 minutes.)

Can You Do a Private Day Trip to Nara and Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report I woke up at 5 a.m., left home just before 6, and arrived at the hotel in Kyoto just before 8. I spoke with another guide who happened to be there, who said, "I never make any contact with guests beforehand." When I replied, "I always get in touch so I can understand their needs and build a relationship of trust before guiding — otherwise it isn't enjoyable," the response was almost mocking. I think many different styles are possible, and I found the exchange rather astonishing. The guests had a deep interest in history, religion, and the sake of Nara, and asked many, many questions. One of the guests said, "I was raised Catholic in North America, but so many terrible things happen in the world that I could no longer believe in God." I think learning about Buddhism and Shinto, which have no absolute deity, may have shifted their worldview a little. We talked so much even on the train that a solo Western traveler nearby scolded us. He was probably sleepy.

Hello! Thank you for choosing Nara! I bet you’ll love Nara. I specialize in Nara because Nara is the unique place where in one day you can cover the history and religions of Japan from the ancient times to the post war era while enjoying rambling in the UNESCO World Heritage park, having communication with lovely deer, surrounded with the beautiful nature.
I grew up in Nara, went university in Kyoto, enjoyed teaching at high schools and a university in Osaka. The three former capitals of Japan are home to me.
After retiring from teaching I began guiding so that I can meet various people from various corners of the world with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Each time I guide, I find it hugely rewarding because I learn a lot from my guests sharing the history, culture and all that I know about Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.
I used to be a marathon runner, mountain climber and skier though I am not much of them anymore.
What I especially recommend is to stay in Nara a couple of days and enjoy communicating with friendly deer while visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Nara in early morning, temples and shrines at night are well worth experiencing.

What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a lovely group visiting from North America, both very meticulous and eager to learn. One of the guests had previously taken part in a school project researching Hiroshima and was already very knowledgeable about the area, yet still listened attentively to my explanations, which I greatly appreciated. The guests loved photography and thoroughly enjoyed taking photos at Miyajima. Partway through the tour, I learned for the first time that one of the guests needed to take care of their knee. I reflected that I should have asked earlier whether there were any particular points I needed to keep in mind.

Hi, nice to meet you! I am Emmy. I am so honored and happy to be your guide.
I had been teaching at a local university in Hiroshima. After I got retired in March 2023, I started guiding. I was born and raised in Hiroshima. I love communicating with people all over the world more than anything, so I have been involved in home visit, homestay, volunteer guide for people from foreign countries.
I always hope that our guests will take away lots of positive energy from Hiroshima, a city that was resilient and revived like a phoenix, in spite of its sad history.
While realizing customers’ wishes, I will introduce you the beauty of Hiroshima, Miyajima and so on, which are tranquil and peaceful places with a unique charm that cannot be found in big cities.
I am happy to answer any questions about things Japanese.
I look forward to meeting you in person soon!!

What Is a Private Kanazawa Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private tour of Kanazawa for guests visiting from Europe. The guests enjoyed their time in the city very much. One of the guests had a strong interest in Zen and had read a great deal about the philosopher Daisetsu Suzuki, and at the museum they even shared their own interpretation of his ideas. Another of the guests had a notable background in tennis commentary connected with major international tournaments. Their main purpose in Japan was to experience food and different cultures, and they enjoyed riding a public bus, eating okonomiyaki, and trying gold-leaf ice cream. During the tour I had intended to deliberately avoid the topic of war, but at the end of the tour the guests brought it up themselves, asking why there had to be conflict in the region. It seems many people share that feeling. All I could say was that I hoped they would set it aside and enjoy their stay in Japan.

What's a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Ginkaku-ji, the Philosopher's Path, and Fushimi Inari The guests were visitors from Asia. Since they had a morning visit to the Shugakuin Imperial Villa scheduled, we met in front of Ginkaku-ji, walked the usual Philosopher's Path and Shishigatani course, and then, thinking there was still time, took a taxi from Konkai Komyo-ji to the Kyoto Imperial Palace. We made it just before the closing time. From the Imperial Palace we took the subway and the Keihan line to visit Fushimi Inari, which has no time restrictions (they would be exploring on their own the next day, and since they were undecided between Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari, we finished Fushimi Inari today so they could focus on Arashiyama tomorrow). Because we started at a late hour, it was quite challenging to decide how to arrange the itinerary, but in the end it worked out well. The guests were very satisfied.
