Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour with Kimono Rental Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a family visiting from North America. In our email exchanges, they had listed many sightseeing spots they hoped to see, while also having an 11:30 reservation for kimono rental and a photo shoot near Kiyomizu-dera Temple. That is how the above itinerary came about. Putting on the kimono took nearly 50 minutes. Furthermore, I had assumed the photo shoot would take place at the shop, but a photographer had the family pose at various spots throughout the Higashiyama district, taking many photos in several locations, and the photo shoot alone took about an hour. One of the older guests had become tired. When the photographer finally released the family along Nene-no-Michi, I had the car come to Nene-no-Michi, and we returned to the kimono rental shop. After changing out of the kimono and feeling more comfortable, they toured Kiyomizu-dera Temple. On Gojo-zaka slope going down from Kiyomizu-dera, there is a grilled skewer shop, and the guests, who had grown hungry, enjoyed some grilled skewers and other items. After sightseeing at Kiyomizu-dera, in the morning they had said they wanted to go to Kinkaku-ji Temple and the bamboo grove as well, but in the car heading from Kiyomizu-dera toward Kinkaku-ji, around the Kitano-Hakubaicho area where we were about to arrive at Kinkaku-ji, they said, "We are tired, so we will not go to Kinkaku-ji. We want to go back to the hotel." So I had the driver change the destination to the hotel, and we headed back. The tour was also extended. In the morning the meeting time was 8:30, so I waited until 8:30, but they did not come to the hotel lobby. When I called via a messaging app, it seemed that day was their checkout day, and they said, "We are putting out our luggage now, so please wait a moment." I waited, and in the end they came to the lobby 25 minutes late. Because of this delay, along with the time it took for the kimono fitting and the photos, we were not able to do very much sightseeing, so I am not sure whether they were satisfied.

I am an experienced guide, who live in Osaka. I have been a Government-Licensed Guide in English since 2018. I have already guided a lot of tourists overseas in Kansai Area, that is, in the vicinity of my prefecture, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Himeji. I am especially good at guiding in Kansai Area with sufficient knowledge of history, culture and transportation. I have guided people ranging from a small group of one or two to a group of 20-50 people in a big bus, that is, a coach. I like delicious food, because Osaka is a city of Kuidaorre, which means that people in Osaka love to eat and never spend too much money on food. Therefore, as an Osakan, I will do my best to explore restaurants which serve most delicious foods in wherever I take to my guests.

Title: What Can You See on a Private Shizuoka Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a calm, relaxed group visiting from North America. As it was their first time sightseeing in Japan, I explained about Japan, Shizuoka, Japanese history, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and tea. They were interested in tea, so we enjoyed matcha at the tea house in Momijiyama Garden within Sunpu Castle Park while looking out over the garden. Since the group wished to buy nail clippers as a Japanese souvenir, I introduced them to a cutlery shop on Gofukucho Street. They purchased eight nail clippers, and were pleased that the shop offered duty-free service. Because the guests had chartered a private vehicle, we were able to visit many places. Title: What Can You See on a Private Walking Tour of Shibuya, Harajuku, and Meiji Shrine in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. One had previously passed through Japan for work but only saw the airport and the workplace, with no sightseeing, while for the other it was a first visit. They were a very close and warm group, with one preferring to stay home and the other being active and eager to show them a different world. We visited Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku Gyoen, and Meiji Shrine. They said it was fascinating to see both quiet places and crowded, lively spots. The autumn leaves at Shinjuku Gyoen had turned quite colorful, and they seemed to take many photos. They mentioned they would be heading to Kyoto in a few days. I gave them a metro map and explained today's route, how to get to Tsukiji for their visit the next day, and a ramen shop in Harajuku before we parted ways. The weather was sunny and warm enough to work up a sweat, and they were delighted with such a fine day for traveling.

Title: Can a Guide Rescue a Solo Traveler's Nara Day Trip? A Licensed Guide's Report The night before the tour, I suddenly received a message on a messaging app saying they wanted to cancel. The reason was: "I went out to find Kintetsu Osaka-Namba Station in preparation for tomorrow, but I got completely lost and simply couldn't get there. Even when I asked for help, no one would help me. I don't have the confidence to make it all the way to the meeting point at Kintetsu Nara tomorrow." This was the guest's first time traveling abroad alone, and with no one to consult, they had become anxious and seemed to be in a give-up state. After exchanging several messages, saying "There's no need to cancel at all," I decided (on my own judgment) to handle it as an emergency and go pick them up at their hotel in Osaka-Namba. I could not let them go home with a bad impression of Osaka, of Nara, of Japan, or of a [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) tour. As a result, the guest was absolutely delighted, and it turned out to be one of the best tours for me as well. Accordingly, I charged transportation costs for the portion from Ikoma (a station in Nara Prefecture on the way from Osaka-Namba to Kintetsu Nara) to Kintetsu Nara.

Hello! Thank you for choosing Nara! I bet you’ll love Nara. I specialize in Nara because Nara is the unique place where in one day you can cover the history and religions of Japan from the ancient times to the post war era while enjoying rambling in the UNESCO World Heritage park, having communication with lovely deer, surrounded with the beautiful nature.
I grew up in Nara, went university in Kyoto, enjoyed teaching at high schools and a university in Osaka. The three former capitals of Japan are home to me.
After retiring from teaching I began guiding so that I can meet various people from various corners of the world with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Each time I guide, I find it hugely rewarding because I learn a lot from my guests sharing the history, culture and all that I know about Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.
I used to be a marathon runner, mountain climber and skier though I am not much of them anymore.
What I especially recommend is to stay in Nara a couple of days and enjoy communicating with friendly deer while visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Nara in early morning, temples and shrines at night are well worth experiencing.

What Is a Private Tokyo Food and Culture Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Meiji Shrine The guests were a group visiting from North America. Since they had signed up for a food and culture tour, after consulting in advance, we added Harajuku, Shibuya, and Meiji Shrine to Tsukiji as destinations that some of the guests were likely to enjoy. Because many of the areas were crowded, the guests were very pleased with the tranquility of Meiji Shrine, and each of them bought a lucky charm. At Tsukiji, they literally enjoyed every kind of food I introduced to them. It was heartwarming that one of the guests spoke to me so eagerly throughout.

What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a unique group visiting Japan. Both of them had intellectually engaging conversations, and it was challenging to keep up. As with another group of guests earlier in the month, staying in touch throughout the day via a messaging app was very effective. The requested spots were Rikugien Garden, Nezu, Tsukiji, Meiji Shrine, and the Shibuya Scramble Crossing. For this reason, I first took the group to Rikugien Garden, the farthest point, then headed south to Nezu and Tsukiji, where we had lunch. At Tsukiji, the guests became unexpectedly absorbed in shopping, and after lunch they wished to have a plant-based dessert, so we then walked to a vegan café in East Ginza. This break used up almost all of the remaining time, so I omitted the visit to Meiji Shrine and instead took them to the Shibuya Scramble Crossing at the end, before seeing them back to their hotel and parting ways.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

Title: What's a Private Autumn-Foliage Tour of Kyoto's Temples Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who were interested in learning about the culture of their own heritage, and they asked many questions throughout the tour. On this day, the cable car at Kurama-dera was out of service due to inspection, so we walked up the steep slope on foot. On the way down we passed a group of older visitors, and I wondered whether they made it to the top. Since the guests were fit and moved easily, this was a great help. We had lunch together and then visited Ginkaku-ji and Kiyomizu-dera as planned. Due to bus transfer times and traffic congestion we were unable to visit Gion, but this was within expectations. As the guests planned to visit Gion on their own, I explained how to get there. The autumn foliage was at its peak at each of the places we visited, which delighted the guests.

Title: What's a Private Kyoto Tour of Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, and Nijo Castle Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of three visiting from North America. Before the meeting, the guests sent a message by email saying they would be about 15 minutes late, and they actually arrived around 9:15. The tour was planned to focus mainly on Arashiyama, but among their requested destinations, I explained that Saiho-ji (the Moss Temple) requires advance reservations, so they decided to skip it. I also explained that Iwatayama Monkey Park requires about a 20-minute climb up the mountain, so they decided against that as well. In the end, in Arashiyama we visited Tenryu-ji and the bamboo grove, and since they said they would instead like to visit Kinkaku-ji and Nijo Castle, we went there. Despite the rain the previous night, the autumn leaves had not fallen, and Tenryu-ji and Arashiyama were at the peak of the fall colors. As a result, there seemed to be more tourists than usual, but it was extremely beautiful and the guests were delighted. At Kinkaku-ji, we were treated to a blue sky, and the autumn leaves here were beautiful as well. The guests sampled the wasabi peanuts from Mamemasa and purchased about three bags. After finishing at Nijo Castle, it was time to conclude the tour, so I took the guests to the taxi stand and we parted ways there.

What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like in Autumn? A Licensed Guide's Report This was a private tour in Kyoto for a group of guests visiting from North America. Although it started raining in the afternoon, the group energetically explored Kiyamachi, Pontocho, the Gion Festival Gallery, Yasaka Shrine, Shorenin, Chionin, and more. At the Gion Festival Gallery in particular, they were amazed by the size of the festival floats. At Shorenin, they admired the Japanese garden in the quiet stillness, taking in the autumn foliage and the pond, and appreciating the Japanese sense of wabi-sabi. They also wrote their wishes on goma prayer sticks and put their hands together in prayer. Finally, each of them rang the bell at the bell tower while making a wish. Shorenin seemed to leave a very strong impression on them. After that, the rain grew heavier, but we continued from Maruyama Park to the Yasaka Pagoda, where the tour concluded.

Hello, This is Shige. I was born and brought up in Osaka. I have been enjoying working as a tour guide since 2016 after retired from a manufacturing company in which I worked at the overseas department. So I experienced a lot of business with customers in Europe, Asia, Australia, and USA where my three years of living and working at the subsidiary company with my family was the most amazing experience of my life. Well, Japan has a long history including ancient remains, historic buildings and cultures at each period over 2000 years. I hope you will enjoy exploring Japan in this tour. I look forward to seeing you soon.
    Shige.

Title: What Is a Private Day Tour of Fukuoka and Dazaifu Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a family group visiting from North America. It was their second time in Japan, and before coming to Fukuoka they had enjoyed Tokyo, the Kansai region, and hot springs in Oita the previous day. Because the booking had been made well in advance, I was able to take my time reviewing the itinerary and choosing a lunch spot. Nanzoin was the original request, but since construction was underway there, I recommended changing the destination to Dazaifu. We arrived at Dazaifu earlier than planned, and although the weather was unfortunately rainy, we were able to avoid the crowds and take a leisurely tour. For lunch in Dazaifu, I introduced a fish shop and restaurant that I had personally used before, where fresh fish was served at reasonable prices, which pleased the guests very much. We traveled to Yusentei by bus, and since everyone in the group had prepared PASMO cards, the transfer went smoothly. The autumn foliage was the goal, and while the overall coloring had not yet peaked, thanks to the cold of the past few days about 30% of the leaves had begun to turn, which was a relief. There were some waits for public transportation, so things ran a little long, but I explained part of the Fukuoka Castle ruins and we parted ways on site.
